Drop Point is the same grind
Awesome, good to know!
The first batches of the AD-10 had hollow grinds and they changed it to flat grind.
Same flat or same hollow?
@@mdubb4855 Drop point Lite is flat.
Its been $69 at MidwayUSA for over a month, and $99 for the S35vn/G10 version. Is the S35vn and G10 upgrades worth $30? It sure is for me! I ordered one last night!! My primary rotation consists of the SR1 and a SOG Seal XR. Hopefully the AD-10 will be a permanent star in that rotation!
I'm a retired Carpenter so for me tanto blades are like skew chisels. I think this straight blade is better for woodworking than the curved one . After you cut a joint in a piece of wood you can use the skew to clean up the joinery. I prefer the flat grind for my AD10 because I don't consider this to be a knife for fine slicing. For me it's like a folding bk2. I carry this knife for tough cutting, a PM2 for fine stuff and a 940 for my apples oranges and veggies. Unlike most people I don't use my tools for multiple purposes everything has one single purpose. That's why I have 22 hammers, one for every single nail size that exists while some of the other guys have one hammer for everything. I don't know how they sleep at night, ha.
I agree 100% - I have the Lite Tanto and it exceeded my expectations for build quality and capability, plus I love the look of that tanto on the AD10 platform.
this is a great quality knife - used well and not abused - it can last a long time and provide great usefulness - it feels great in hand and looks good because of the drop point - all around a great knife
i love the cold steel LITE line - best bang for the buck - and the performance is great - more than acceptable - just a little more sharpening - but thats fun also
Maybe burn the channel logo into the wood ? Might look good .
G'day Aaron, a coupla points if I may;
many thanks for the look around the "States", awesome to see a "real" tour from you and your fam's POV.
Now you're back home, good think'n with the garage "room", just re-doin' mine again too, its like a game of tetris, lol.
I've been toying with the idea of only racking out the best in category; chopper, belt knife, folder, hatchet, saw, tube torch, headlamp etc, etc. but so many sub-categories, might as well do the lot, though I'm guess'n that might be an unattainable goal for your vast inventory, lol.
As much as I love the Recon 1, nearly pulled the trigger on some version of the AD10 or Bushranger, not so much for the grind, just to have thicker scales, but does creep into fixy territory IMO. Thats where the BK-18, Gator Premo fixy comes in, and of course there's plenty other options.
Yeah not a big tanto fan either, but does make a lotta sense for a very versatile tool.
Didn't mind a well heat treated AUS-8A, like on the Finnwolf for example, mine has done plenty of hardwood carving, mainly fruit-wood implements, whilst holding a surprisingly good edge, so one would think AUS10 or 10A must surely be better again. Cheers Duke.
Right on thanks for sharing Duke!
The fact that your first choice of a fixie (*for the background) was a TOPS 107 makes me love your channel more than I already do...and that's saying a lot.
Nice knife, I could see myself carrying it. I got an Esee 4 3D handles the black & blue one. It's a little small in my hand. Wished I had gotten the Esee 6 with just the regular handles. My first Esee own alot of Becker knives. Love them.
These are $39 now and may be one of the best values in the knife world today imo
Amazon has the AD10 Tanto in S35VN for $107.00 right now and the Lite for $77.00 as of 9/16/23 , just a heads up guys gotta look out for the Family...... 👍🖖
Thanks for the heads up and post!!
Wow ! I thought my buck slim select had a big pocket clip . That one is just overkill .
Maybe a backpack hanging below the right hand shelf? Great vid!
I have the AD 10 lite drop point. Love it use to carry 4 max scout as my heavy edc
AD 10 is everything you need. 4 Max - overkill. More weight for no benefit. Sold mine to buy another AD - 10.
For the new studio; make your own long-term vision for what you want it to be, and work towards it over time. Some advice is good but not design by committee! Good luck, cheers from Canada
Hollow grind main edge and saber on the tanto edge to me makes this thing feel like a modern day trapper knife, multiple blade functions in one.
Love the studio. Welcome home.
Great Video. What's the Back-Spacer made out of? Is it 6061, heat treated aluminum, like the CPM-S35VN Model?
New studio space looks great, maybe a little color to give contrast.
I have been waiting for that knife to drop. Got to get one now. I like the background of the video too.
I have the sr1 lite tanto, wish it was hollow too. Aus10 would be nice but it was like $40 when I bought it
8cr14mov on this particular blade is awesome
If the benchmade Bugout doesn't have the word lite in it, then that knife shouldn't either. I do have the budget version of that knife which was like $19, I think its just called the pro lite tanto. Its a little smaller. It is light too, but the Bugout literally floats in mid-air....ok, well almost.
Please get CS to remake the icons in Aus10. Recons, r1s, taipans . Not all of us want brittle s35 or super expensive 3v
I'm tired of aus 10, besides it chips
Don't know where anyone is getting the idea that s35 is brittle. It's not at all. I have more experience with s35 than anything and have never had a problem. That includes a coworker dropping my knife tip down on concrete. I did have 2 touch it up because the tip got rounded a little. Maybe some companies not doing heat treat right? 🤷🏼♂️ . Almost all of my s35 has been from spartan blades and heretic knives.
S35 brittle?!? Whatcha smokin there hoss???
Exactly ! Bingo ! Winner winner chicken dinner !
You mean remake them again in Carbon V.
Aaron ya did it again. I sure don’t need a knife. But I have the regular Cold Steel beast AD10 in S35VN. And watching this video I wondered if CS made the S35VN version in a tanto. Just stating for the re it’s that S35VN is just a fantastic balanced stainless steel. I’ll call it super. So when I pulled it up on Amazon for a $106, I hit the purchased button. 😁
Lite is spelled that way for a reason. It means something lacking or a lesser item. If they called it the ad 10 light then I could see thinking it should weigh less.
NO LONGER HOLLOW GRIND, it is Flat grind according to BladeHQ.
Interesting I wonder if they are just copying the specs from the original.
I thing you didn’t say is the blade the back of the blade actually sticks out past the handle a bit. When it’s closed the back of the blade protrudes out some other than that I did buy one because this video. I really love it.
AD10 is available at great sale at 85 is it a good EDC for daily use?
Can it be used for slicing frequently...
I liked AD 10 design was just worried about its bulky size
Nice looking blade. Cold steel is growing on me since I got my Silver eye last year. Now I want a Oyabun and tiger claw
Problem with the lite is that it is only like $10-20$ cheaper than the s35vn model.
True, I haven’t seen him quite that small margin more like a $50 margin. But I’ll take more performance in the sense of grind then more premium steel.
@@gideonstactical amazon has sales often that have the s35vn ad10 for $99.99!
I gotta Coldsteel Broken Skull (Steve Austin) 4 inch, CTS XHP blade steel, full hollow grind, super slicey. No steel liners, thin GRN handle. Thumb studs, lock back. Reversible pocket clip. Adjustable pivot screw. A really good outdoor type hunter. Price point not bad at all.
I like my AD10 normal (that is to say the first version) quite a handful.
I was perfectly happy with my flat Sabre ground S35vn blade til I saw your video. Thanks...lol
Haha no problem!
Awesome review, im planning on using your hyperlink this weekend and purchasing this knife! Love the backdrop to, I think it could use a simple little American flag on a stick tucked up on one of the box corners
It would be cool an engage with the tanto, with also the back straight (no concave back like standard blade).
G10 is nicer.
Hi Aaron. Studio looks great. I have the sabre ground original , it's a great knife but I prefer to carry my 4max Scout or my AD15 , honestly 72% of the time I carry my Range Boss and the other 28% I rotate. I am ok with sabre , scandi and hollow grinds but for most of my edc I prefer full flat. Thanks for another awesome review. Thanks
My Brother !!!!!!!!!!! 🤠❤️🔪🙏
@@tubes5150 Hi Cowboy CBop. I see you watch GT too , he is one of my favorites as you are too.
@@steellovingyou8673 A lot of my blades were purchased because of this here channel .
Really awesome recommendations ❤️
Awesome. They should go back to hollow grinds, that's where it was at as a full package.
I think it's supposed to be "lite" in budget probably 😆 At least that's what I think it means "lite" for Cold Steel.
I always thought cos they use plastic for the handles, which is lighter than the G 10 / Micarta etc that they use in the more expensive versions.... Hence LITE
Any problems with the blade release? I had a CS that was almost impossible to close even after leaving it half open for a week .
Interesting no, I would return it. Cold steel replaced my broken engage I damaged in the video in about 6 weeks. I went through normal channels.
Nice looking studio 👍
Might get it but just because I want a Chávez but won’t spend 300+ on a knife
Have ad10 gen 1 now i want the ad10 lite tanto
You should review and try my favorite cold Steel knife. The Recon folding tanto with a 3.5 in blade. Balance is key and it slices beautifully
What do you think of Emerson sheepdog, I really like mine??
Happy subscriber here. Your reviews are excellent! Also, lucky timing for me because checking out the price on this knife led me to find a 50% discount sale on the very similar CS 4-Max Scout. :)
The regular tanto does have a hollow on the blade flat on the tanto
Right on!
Hi Aaron, love your videos and real world assessments. I'm loving this knife too, I have the og ad10 also. Both great knives. Can u tell me what watch your wearing on this video. Looks pretty snazzy!! Thx in advance brother and God bless.....HT in Arkansas
Too large for a folding knife IMO but it's a beast!
It's actually pretty small in the hand ....to small for my hands
I hope Cold Steel will make an AD15 tanto with a hollow grind like this. I had the the drop point AD15, and loved it, except for that thick axelike grind, especially compared to my hollow ground AD10.
Try laying back the edge a couple degrees. I got an ad10 and loved it but wanted it to slice better... all I had to do was give it a lower angle and now it slices better than some of my hollow grind blades.
@@DWdawgable the problem isn't the cutting edge angle, it's the grind (thickness behind the edge) On my AD10 i could lower the edge angle to 18 dps without an issue, without the thickness behind the edge being significantly affected, thanks to the hollow grind. If i did that on my AD15 the thickness behind the edge would go up noticeably and the width of the edge would also visibly increase.
You need to get a nice disply desk now to present from .
I’ll buy legacy ColdSteel weapons
the new stuff looks like just what I expected from a camping outfit
Cold Steel have followed Spyderco and some others. The use of 'Lite' refers to the materials rather than weight. No marketing manager is going to allow a company to use words such as 'budget' or even 'value' in a name!! 'Lite' materials often create the small weight reduction simply because they just weigh less - FRN weighs less than G10. Similarly, a move to a hollow grind will reduce weight. And of course 'Lite' materials help get costs down. I have an SR1 Lite I love so next is the AD10 lite!!
Except the 4Max Lite, which weights even more with the full stainless liners compared to the original with titanium ones. XD
Is the og ad10 tanto hollow also?
4 max scout!
Sprint runs of 52100....we want it NOW!
If I had a choice, I’d take the AUS 10a over the brittle s35vn. AUS 10 a is not only structurally stronger but easier to put an edge on it too. But if you were to hard use and abuse these knives the AUS 10a will last longer with a less of a chance for breakage.
I used some linemen pliers to pound the back of my recon 1 tanto through thick 1"+ dia branches. The spine of the knife peened and the edge stayed true. I trust cold steels s35vn.
DA… I also have the cold steel recon and trust it with abuse, but I trust my sr1 lite (8Cr14MoV) tanto & Clip point and my Voyager Aus10a Tanto more than the recon! But that being said, if I was to carry one knife and if it had to be folding knife for a true survival situation, it would definitely be my 4max scout with Aus10a!!! The knife is practically indestructible!
I got one a week ago. It has the flat grind.
For that price , it is the king of the heavy duty folders. It can replace a small fixed blade easily. And as an idea, could make a Top 5 gear or solutions with your wife , from the experience you got last year. After all a satisfied woman gives the best suggestions.
Lefty clip included?
Yes 👍
@@gideonstactical 🙏
Great video keep them coming!
The Tanto AD10 with G-10 weighs about 7,2 ounces. So, that one sounds like it is half a ounce lighter with the Griv-Ex Scales. Note: Grivory is a lot lighter than G-10. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Whats the hole up near the choil used for?
According to Demko it so you can pin the blade open for added security in case the Triad lock fails
@@deeboy5588 According to Demko, that was it’s intended function in the custom version. On the cold steel version, the hole is smaller, and it’s just there because he thought it was aesthetically pleasing.. his words, not mine. 🤷♂️
I just ordered a drop point lite,
I’ll let you know if it’s a hollow
Update :
I don’t think it is
You don’t gonna believe this!
I just to search this video 12 hours ago
Haha nice!!
Excellent
Sweet 👍
Should be sub $70
I doubt it, that is a huge hunk of metal the air lite is $60 and half the size.
@@gideonstactical I got AD 10 s35 for $99. But i will probably get this one since i like the tanto.
Video starts at 1:47
So are you going to go back to working at the church, now that you are back home?
I don’t have plans to at this time.
“Lite” = “specs”
1:49
That’s not a studio lol
I love mine.
So even more gas station knife vibes to shit on another iconic Demko model. Partially serrated when?
First
Meh.
Love the studio brother u have the best channel out
Thanks so much for the encouragement!! Glad u enjoy it
