    I carried my Recon 1 as a duty knife for over 5 years and give it a 10 out of 10 in every category. Never let me down and it is still one of my all time favorite knives. Great demo brother.

    Love the Recon 1. I actually like the review in this format over the later voice over. Most dont do that and it really shows if your struggling with the knife. It can be heard in the voice. Just makes it more genuine. Great as always!

    I have so so many pocket knives alone, not including fixed blades. No matter what i try to carry i always end up with my Recon 1 in my pocket. Its my favorite folding knife available. I still have the aus8 clip point and tanto. I carry 2 to sometimes 3 different blades, the Recon 1 is for me a self defense/backup to my gun. The blade never touches anything. Great review Aaron. Been with you for years and i always look forward to what your bringing.

    The Recon 1 is one of my all time favorite knives , it does everything well and its hard to beat for the price . I've been collecting them since the aus-8 versions , I have 8 variations of the knife including a set of the Canadian Blades satin bladed versions , they are just Awesome with a satin blade , I hope CS makes it part of their normal factory versions ..

    One of my favorite folding knives, and I'm a knife nut who has owned hundreds of the best production and custom knives. The ergonomics of the handle are exceptional, really locked in and comfortable. The linerless G10 construction is perfect for a pocket knife, slim, relatively light weight, and strong. I love the XL too, awesome self defense knife.

I hate batoning even a fixed blade but for giggles I went EDC for a scout overnighter. with my gen 1 finn wolf I was able through creative batoning to accomplish all the tasks I needed. still have the knife 16 years later...

    • @gunner3548
      @gunner3548 4 роки тому +4

      @D O it doesn't shame it at all. It's a different knife, heavier, and with a broader blade, Recon1 is lighter, but strong and with a blade much better for penetration. 4 MAX Scout is an outstanding knife, but it will never succeed to shame Recon1. There are by far much more people around the world who carry at least one Recon1 on a daily basis than a 4MAX. Best regards, stay sharp.

      The Aus will actually put to shame a higher caliber steel, if the heat treat and whole process of blade making is top notch on the Aus 8 and superior to higher end steel that's not processed as well. But basically you're right.

    Awesome vid. Keep up the revisits. Been obsessed with the Cold Steel line lately. The Recon 1 is hands down the best overall do everything blade that you can carry. That being said, strictly from an EDC standpoint If I were to carry a Cold Steel I think I would go with an American Law Man or the Code 4. Would love to see your take on the Code 4

    Interesting timing on the revisit of the Recon 1. I was just looking at the Cold Steel line up. The Recon 1 was in the top 5, but after heavy deliberation I went with the AD-10. I couldn't be happier. Killer Blade. And I'm not a folder guy. I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a beefy folder with excellent ergonomics. Since you did a review on the Ultimate Hunter and the Bush Ranger, I think many of us would like you to review the AD-10 or even the 4 Max. Thanks Aaron, Cheers

    • @abc456f
      @abc456f 4 роки тому +1

      I was having a hard time deciding between the ad10 or the ad15. The clip on the ad10 was a negative for me, and I wanted to try the scorpion lock on the ad15. I did end up getting the ad15 and am very happy with it. Still might end up getting an ad10 in the future. Cold Steel is one of my favorite brands. Their knives are built for heavy use and I never feel that they're trying to squeeze every penny of profit out of them, excellent values. Love my recon 1 in cts-xhp, code 4 in s35vn, and six inch holdout 1 in cts-xhp.

    • @PersonaN007Grata

      @@PersonaN007Grata Where did you find a deep carry clip for the AD10?
      I recently bought one, over the 15 because I think the scorpion lock is too gimmicky and looks too difficult for one handed closing, but I do also hate the clip it comes with. Would love to have a deep carry clip on it!

      I have a couple recon 1s. Hey bro with the ad10 can it stab and penetrate well? Been curious and on the fence. I heard they slice and slash well but haven't heard how well it stabs.
      Thanks

    • @alpineexposure333
      @alpineexposure333 4 роки тому +1

      Albert Brady , I would tend to agree with the assessment of it being excellent at slicing and slashing. It doesn’t bury deep at stabbing because of the extra large width of the drop point spear tip, but it can still handle the tip test easily. For most people’s stabbing and prying, I would say it’s a non issue. It goes deep enough into wood for my tasks. Cheers

    @ottergt 4 роки тому +1

    I like this format a little better. Just FYI, the thumb studs don't adjust by screwing in and out...it's a 2 piece stud that you have to remove and flip over. Cold Steel has some models where the stud is bilateral (Finn Wolf and Voyager)...as a leftie I would prefer that kind so I wouldn't have to mess with it. The Drop Point has been a saber grind for a while (my version is in CTS-XHP and is a saber). Great review as always! Keep the Revisit Videos coming!

    Excellent review. Seriously. It’s mind boggling how many knife reviews there are out there that dont leave the table top, or give any real world feedback on durability or blade performance. I wasn’t aware that Cold steel had come out with a updated a recon 1 until I saw this video, so I doubly appreciate it. I’ll still get the AD-10 I’ve been drooling over, but one of these as an EDC/hiking option may have to join the collection too.

    I wouldn't baton with a folder either, but I was happy to see that it held up. The Tops BOB folder locking mechanism failed when batoning in a video I saw a while back. This knife will last a lifetime, though I don't think it is worth $100. Maybe $70 or so. It is a great knife though, and AUS8 is just fine. Too much is made of knife steels, IMO. If the carbon level is above .5, it will hold an edge reasonably well to fantastic. Thanks for showing the Recon. It is a great looking blade that performs.

    Hopefully CS has fixed one thing.
    I have a slightly older recon with CTSXHP steel. The only negative I've found is the pivot pin. It's made of a steel that rusts which obviously screws up the deployment.
    Also, be sure not to swap the pivot pin with the other one because they are not exactly the same size and the blade will be loose..
    The 1st thing I did was take it apart and smooth any machining marks that interfere with deployment.
    Of course nothing permanently overcomes the rust. I spent many years working on as a meat cutter and this knife holds a better edge than my professional knives.

    The recon was pretty much my gateway folder. Of course back when I was really young I was going through my mall ninja phase where I watched cold steel’s cheesy videos and then saw a navy seal use a recon 1 on a ballistic gel dummy on a show called “Deadliest Warrior” .. I had to have it.
    Now I’m a lot more refined and see knives as elegant tools. I have no realistic use for a recon 1, but to those that could find a good use for one, man I don’t think there is anything better.

    I've owned several cold steel knives and the recon 1 tanto is far by my favorite EDC knife and I've owned several different types of folding knives and some have broke on me due to bad design flaws or just being stupid but the recon 1 has held up against some of the abuse that I do on the job with cutting weed eater cord or cutting through material that other blades just won't cut but the thing that that I'm most impressed with is how sharp and strong the knife is.

    I really prefer the testing when you are speaking in the moment. It gives the impression of a more true perspective rather than you giving your opinions that you are having to recall from memory. Not saying you are forgetting details, just seems more "in the moment", if that makes sense. I always cringe during tip testing. Lol It is probably any blade's weakest area for critical failure. Great video! Thanks for putting out this kind of content to save us time/ remind people of a staple in the knife world.

    I own the Recon 1 in XHP and it's the spear point version. It has a flat grind also. I believe the spear point has always been flat ground and the other versions are hollow ground, but some websites might not list that info accurately. This is a good choice for a hiking knife; it wont't let you down if you need it and it won't weigh you down either. The voice over model feels more rushed than this style.

    Aaron! The new/old(tried & true) testing is the absolute best! You’re on the top tear of gear reviews & most of us long time subs will watch and appreciate anything you do because of all the effort you obviously put into each one. This new/old thingy is more attractive to the uninitiated though. It captures the “off the cuff”, honest opinion without alienating anyone in particular. Thanks for all you do! Ps- I’m a former Satanist, turned open-minded spiritualist. Also a lover of EVERYTHING OUTDOORS! Thanks for bringing the gap even further & tell Jesus “Hi” for me. He was a great man & a true prophet. In short, we believe in the same things & I am very thankful for the opportunity! Cheers from Hawaii!!! Stay sharp! God bless us all.

    I have had my eye on the Recon 1 for years, I'm been waiting for the uncoated blade version that was released in Canada a while back and why I never pulled the trigger on the DLC coated one.

      I took the coating off my blade and smoothed out all the edges on the handles. Now, it perfect for me. Could not ask for a better pocket knife. EDC every single day.

    hi, I would like it with assisted opening, the lower part of handle in steel, the tip similar to the Randall 14. another model with the tip similar to the Ka-bar. 4mm thickness,bye

    I LIKED THE LIVE VOICE WHILE TESTING. I AGREE THAT THE LIVE VOICE SHOWS YOUR STRESS LEVEL WHILE USING THE BLADE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A COMPARISON OF THE RECON 1 AND THE AMERICAN LAWMAN. MAYBE A HEAD TO HEAD WITH A FEW SIMILAR DESIGNS. IM CURRENTLY EDC'ING THE LAWMAN AND I FIND IT A HARD WORKER. I THOUGHT THAT THE BATTONING TEST WAS TO EASY ON IT AS A TEST OF DURABILITY A SMALL STICK LIKE THAT IS NOT PUTTING ANY CHALLENGE TO THE KNIFE. KNOWING THAT ITS NOT MEANT FOR THAT USE IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE ITS MAXIMUM CAPABILITY.

    Mine wasn't sold as a second but as far as I'm concerned it is. Getting the bleeping lock to let go so I can close it is about as as much as I can do so bleep the recon I. Yes I did try oil it.

    Aaron, have you ever used, or considered using LAPG TBFK?
    I know it's a cocky name... I also believe that it's a good knife. I would value your thoughts.
    Thank you for your work.

    The only two locks I trust to "emergency baton" is the triad lock and the buck back lock
