    While watching your video on walker setup in Space Engineers, you somehow also taught me the basics of animation that I've spent years trying to grasp.
    This is not only a great tutorial on SE design, but an incredible lesson on the basics of walk cycle design.

    I've been trying to design an IRL hexapod and i realised that the design concepts are actually really helpful for physical, real world design with added challenge, as using the guidance aids that IRL bots would have, is computationally expensive, manually controlling mechs helps you get a feel for what you're actually building and how it would walk if you're controlling it with raw input and very basic timing; SE is actually a really good simulator for these!

      How do you keep the parameters for the red parts the same when you also need to make clearance?
      My small grid mechs run into problems with tipping or skidding/sliding.
      My best results come when I keep my parameters relatively close and manually walk it. (No timers)
      Timers work but are slow and scripting is the next boss battle I tackle.
      Essentially how would you go about making the red part "return" after you make clearance? I have to walk manually and use q / e to keep from hopping/sliding too much.

    • @BlackArmor718
      @BlackArmor718  5 місяців тому

      @@MetaMelonColley There isn't a reason to manually walk without using timers, as they can be adjusted to an optimal delay for the best walking. You would need extra buttons on the hot bar to return the red parts if you want to do it manually. If you are sliding around then your leg joints are moving too fast and I'd suggest cutting your rpms in half.

    I'm pretty new to SE, joined up with the Playstation release, and I've been interested in the game's mechanical side, despite Clang's curses. Even if I could've figured this process out on my own, it's better this way where I can watch someone with experience walk through the process, so I'm happy to watch this series. I think the red/blue parts distinction is extremely helpful, and thank you so much for putting this together!
    I've been inspired by some of the enemy designs in Generation Zero (despite that game's other shortcomings), particularly the Russian's "Wolf" unit. It's a quadruped sporting one hip and one knee joint, with tank treads along the underside of the forelimbs. Thanks to this, the Wolf rides low to the ground using the treads when on patrol, with its legs folded and giving opponents the impression that it's basically an APC with mortar pods and a few deployable gyro robots. Then, when sufficiently threatened, the Wolf stands up on all fours, revealing a minigun in addition to its true form.
    In the previous tutorial, you mentioned using wheels' impact resistance to combat Clang's cruelty. Just think though: a quad-walker/rover hybrid!? I don't even care if that's the best ground vehicle for any given job, it sounds cool as hell and I want to build one, maybe even build a drone variant that automatically switches to quad mode when it's under attack.

    No need to apologize when the tutorials quality and information are this exceptional! My leg rotations are based off of RPMs matching well with degrees per second within timing instead of just forward and rear parameters, so, Seeing other work arounds within in a leg structures build is nice. "My leg rotations are based off of RPMs matching well with degrees per second within timing instead of just forward and rear parameters, so, Seeing other work arounds within in a leg structures build is nice"
      Can you elaborate on this sentence so I can fully understand it?

    • @Rushx364x
      @Rushx364x Рік тому +1

      @@BlackArmor718To clarify a little bit I'm mostly speaking of bipedal but your leg adjustments were either within the builds limits, close to reference or as you see fit. For me right now my red or blue parts move "as I had said" Meaning a blue or red part that needs to swing between 30° in one second needs to be at 5RPM to do so. 15°per sec is like 2.5rpm and etc.... This is used within my timing setup and the leg positioning. If my blue hip piece needs to swing between 60°, forward to back, over 2 seconds then it needs to be at 5rpm for the 30°per sec, and then my timers need to reverse it every 2 seconds. You haven't gotten into timer blocks so I'm not quite sure how your leg set up fits within a timer block rotation. Learning from you right now seems like I'm going to have a lot more leeway on leg positioning, since you were able to move your foot into a more level position. Then I've just got to go back to balancing... Space engineers is all about testing adjusting and fine-tuning in small increments so I'm mostly understand how you're going about this

    • @BlackArmor718
      @BlackArmor718  Рік тому

      @@Rushx364x Ok I see, seems like you're sticking to angles that can be easily converted to whole rpm numbers for timing calculations.
      I don't worry much about what angles I use, since trial and error is so easy in the game, i'll adjust my rpm speeds little by little until they sync with the timer delays

    • @Rushx364x
      @Rushx364x Рік тому +1

      @@BlackArmor718 Exactly my point, you seem have a lot more room for leeway with that. I may be able to crack the rest of a mad cat/timberwolfs actual leg rotation with or without a mix of this and your timing adjustments possibly... This might be useful or useless to you but, Have you ever considered or used rotors stacked? Unfortunately its a little more unstable or joggly... The new rotation I've been working on uses that in at least the hip joint or cab/blue piece connection, allowing me to do one speed, x2 speed or stop within its swinging rotation of the joint.

    • @BlackArmor718
      @BlackArmor718  Рік тому +1

      @@Rushx364x Have dabbled with stacked rotors but I ended up either going with piston supports if I was using them for torque or I just change the speeds using timers if I wanted different rpms. I stopped 'playing' SE a few weeks ago because i just got bored with the lack of goals. I say that to highlight how impressed and awed i am with the amount of time and effort put into the builds on display. Stunning effort.

    Would you consider a nomad survival series? Turning the initial pod into a walker, and slowly building a full size mobile base

    Ok, I know your whole thing is mechs but hear me out, this could be a fun thing.
    Basically, its a ship design. But, the whole thing is designed in several seperate segments that all connect together into a single crafted. This would be most likely be accomplished with a merge block and advanced rotor (merge block to make it a single craft, advanced rotor to connect the conveyor system).
    The ship would come apart as the following segments: The engine(s), the cockpit, the wings, and the weapon systems if there are any. The reason for doing this in the first place would simply be to make repairs easier. Like, instead of having to grind away an entire chunk of the ship just to repair a few reactors that got damaged and then having to build it all back up, you could instead just disconnect the right wing segment or pull out the cockpit and boom, there's the damaged part. Then you just slot em back into place afterward and your done.
    This system could also allow for high modularity too, making it easy to swap out hydrogen engines for atmospheric or even ion engines. Or swapping out the guns for missiles or Cannons, and swapping out light armor wings for heavy armor wings. Plus, it doesn't even need to just be a ship, it could be a rover, a mech, a drone, hell it could even be a base!
    Idk tho, I'm just rambling now haha 😅. But hey, if you like it try it out, who knows, might work.

    • @hunt5344
      @hunt5344 Рік тому

      Timer 5 starts forward leg movement, at the same time, it triggers Timer 6 which loops the process by reversing Leg Movement and triggering 5. Timer 7 and 8 are the same but with the hinges.

      @hunt5344 Рік тому

      So 5 and 6 are forward and 7 and 8 is vertical movement, but I don’t know how to make all the legs be on the ground or if I just need the walker to be taller. It occasionally starts walking backwards after stopping the move cycle.
