Personally, I would've made Asha a shy protagonist to make her stand out (she was very generic with no flaws), as well as focusing on Magnifico's gray message to make a timely and complex story. In the end, the two would be moreso rivals on ideals rather than strict enemies.
there are so many beautiful things u can do with box braids but they did nothing??? the concept art had beads in asha's hair but they were REMOVED??? box braids like to whip around and make bold movements but the animation doesn't even play around with that. In comparison to aurora's bouncy and stylized hair, asha's is so fucking lame.
I could think of a few ideas: 1. Keep the cycle going of female leads with no love interest (several of whose films were very sucessful). 2. Concerns that the romance "distracted/took away" from the main story. 3. Star being a regular star was more marketable. 4. At one point, Star's human form was based on Asha's deceased grandfather. If they were also romantically involved, this may have scared execs from wanting them to be together even without that aspect, worried some people would twist it if they found out one of the prior concepts and say Disney was peddling a message of Asha marrying her grandfather. 5. Perhaps they legitimately couldn't make the story work. Maybe it was boring or cliche and they couldn't find an angle they found interesting. 6. Asha makes a wish and gets a love interest. While love isn't bad, some critics would twist that around to "Asha wishes for change and gets a man." 7. I heard (not from a reliable source, but another comment) that Star was going to return to the sky at the end anyway, so maybe they wanted to avoid a bittersweet "Pocahontas"-style ending.
He wasn’t a love instrwst he was someone to represent her grandfathers wish the reason they didn’t cause it was the only way to simplify his character and it didn’t fit in with the movie
The only song I liked was This Wish (reprise)! And I just NEED to say this, Asha’s dress should have been ORANGE OR RED she would have to so gorgeous in that!

I think Julia Michaels deserves some credit for managing to make a decent soundtrack given the fact that she was given very little context of the film's plot and characters. This explains why songs like "At All Costs" (my favourite of the lot and which was supposed to be a love duet between scraped character Starboy and Asha) sound off in the final product.
Good video. I thought it was an okay Disney film, and if this has come out two years ago great, but not the 100 year celebration. I think they missed lots of opportunities' here and yes the shapeshifter star boy is a major one. And given that we've had a recent line up of "independent women" movies (Yes I know Anna and Kristopher, but I mean as the main focus of a film) I think it could have set Asha apart and been a celebration of the love stories from Disney's past. There was also concepts for the king and queen too be evil which I would love to have seen. And I know you said you're tired of discussing this movie, but I'm curious if you're going to do a "rewrite" of this film? Either way great job on the video :).
I think „Wish“ should’ve been a 2D movie based on a fairytale again. Either „Frau Holle“ or „Rumplestiltskin“. In „Frau Holle“ you have a spinning wheel, a well (homage to Snow White) and evil stepmother and stepsister (homage to Cinderella), Snow (homage to Frozen), the journey to another world (homage to Alice in Wonderland). You technically can have a really nice princess dress transformation bc the heroine is gifted with gold that in some versions stays on her dress. You can even slightly change to story so that the Stepmother actually becomes a dangerous villain or to add a prince/princess as a love interest and our heroine becomes an official Disney Princess. Or Rumplestiltskin, is more well known, has a villain, a king/prince to marry. The second Disney Princess to become a mother (Ariel being the first)
I loved the concept. Fairy God Mother Origin story. I thought the star was so cute and I enjoyed the references to past disney films. The credits were fantastic with pics of so many characters. I also liked the title song. It’s disappointing because this movie had so much potential and a great concept. I also agree, they could have gone with a traditional 2D animation style.
Wish was indeed a mess. Admittedly, one that I still mildly enjoyed upon first watch in the cinema, but still a narrative mess. Decent ideas thrown together without full commitment. The writing of King Magnifico best exemplifies the messy writing as he starts off as a misguided antagonist with understandable motivations, but he instead turns into a narcissist (a fun one to watch, but still), and then transforms again into just being evil (albeit technically under possession). It’s a shame that Disney Animation has now reverted back to doing sequels, even if good, after dropping the ball with their 2020s originals so far (Encanto aside, of course). Hopefully, they’re not discouraged from making something original with good quality after Frozen 3 in 2026 (and 4, I guess).

(not now, but in a few years at least) first of all, because you are adapting the story into another medium, the presence of starboy is actually super justificated (of course it is too in if they would have puted him in the animated one, but they didn't) i mean you are translating what's in the animated one (that weird yellow bubble that pretend's to be a star) into a "human", which is perfect in live action apart from that, you can make all of the things that would have been great, and actually put them in the movie for example: -the two villains -cut that damn goat off -make Asha's design better -THE LOVE SONG THAT AT ALL COSTS WAS SUPPOUSED TO BE -change some songs into a more clasical broadway style (they have potential, they need some work) -damn Rosas in real life could be AMAZING, BREATH TAKING -a LOT of Asha's friends -change the script -EMOTION i think you can get the idea now (sorry if a said something wrong, english isn't my first lenguage)

The braids kept making me think she was Sub-Saharan African since they reminded me of modern African-American hairstyles.

I mean...Can't speak for Pixar, but "Strange World" and "Wish" were failures, while the sequels did well. It's not surprising, is it?
