    Hello, thank you for great video with lots of knowladge. I have a question, i heard about 'golden' 90% rule for valves, which was told by David Vizard, and other american pushrod v8 dual valve engine porters. Asked a few locals, who port hondas, opels(chevy in south america opel astra/chevy astra) and say that upto 85-87%, 89% with lots of lift. So what makes 4 valve engines want smaller throat?
    Also what port entry area should i aim for? Maybe there is a rule for throat areaXvalve numberXfixed number or something like that?
    Also i see entry of port beeing really big, but after devider two 'pipes' going to the valve seem quite small. How small or big cross section area is allowed after deviders?
    Also have you tried a-symmetrical porting, one of ports f.e. left stock, but blended seats, and another one enlarged so it has swirl in cylinder like diesel? Diesel can be killed if you port out twist ramps.
    A few ideas a few questions, have a great day. Thank you.

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +2

      Interesting about the valve to throat question… it’s also because it’s 2 intake valve (on 4 valve) than 1 intake valve (on 8 valve)
      In layman’s term… two 85-87% of 33mm (Honda) is more curtain area than one 90% of 42mm valve… so when we think about it it’s already big but Ofcourse it spins more rpm’s so it works
      (Outside the port area Vs throat to valve which is a factor in itself)

    Ported manifold on unported head. Will it improve my engine performance? Just a question. Thank you sir

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +3

      Really depends, and really has to be looked at it in a different way. a lot of locals to me do this and see it as “this” + “this” = “fast”
      Sadly it’s also suggested by “friends” who aren’t spending their money but you are 😂
      If they spend their money either they stop suggesting or they want to be more sure lol
      to answer the questions and why it depends
      will the engine be needing it? Like will the header be flowing enough to want the stock head to be upgraded to a ported intake manifold? It’s just like a ported head depends if the header and exhaust and cam will merit the upgrade.

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +2

      This is also why I’ve seen locally
      A b20vtec with cams, run just 201whp
      But has a “TypeR” manifold
      pretty sure that was followed by friends suggestions that never built one and or read somewhere… cuz of the TypeR manifold lol and all
      but 201whp is like a strong B16 lng not even a b20 lol

      Oh thank you brother! I tried hard to explain without offending people cuz we know if they realize they doing it wrong? They’d comment like they been doing it for years lol
      But since I like VW I kinda saw where the misconception came from even on V8s they do resize port entry sometimes so port matching happens by turning the gasket same as the head port so u “gasket match” to the manifold
      Stay safe and have a great 2023 also Amigo!

  • @jmoore9806

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +2

      and gaskets aren’t always well aligned to the head casting as mentioned and explained on the video
      unless it’s a cb 044 ported head their gasket is the pattern for the intake to be matched
      but even on vw , the oem intake gasket is cross eyed

    • @jmoore9806
      @jmoore9806 Рік тому +1

      @@SRDmotorsports It's true that gaskets don't always align up perfect with the gasket guide....it's just confusing hearing port match..... I better term would be port match to gasket because EVEYONE still uses the gasket as a template to cross over to manifold port to cylinder intake port

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +2

      Which is exactly the misconception
      Port match = match both head and intake port
      Using gasket as a template is also what everyone calls “gasket match”
      which already ruins a lot of things especially if they take into account “cross sectional area”

    you make such great videos. i just wanted to ask though, this video is more for match porting. so in a case of when you want to port for better flow and you increase the diameter from both the intake and head, which part do you port first? the head or the intake? and then do you match port afterwards?

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +2

      It really depends but since it’s almost often the head port is bigger than the intake port I port match “after” porting the head, then I double check intake gasket pattern and apply it to the intake manifold and port match the intake to the head

    • @saadiqeverson2161
      @saadiqeverson2161 Рік тому +1

      @@SRDmotorsports so am i correct in saying that when you do port the head, you just ensure that the casting marks are removed and the ports are somewhat even throughout the port? and then once thats complete you match port to the intake? does this apply for ITB setups as well? do you port the adapter?

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +2

      Yes but that’s not a one answer for all… some engines the head are either lacking or have too much port volume so they should be worked with a different approach from one another
