Stock Air Box is it that bad? vs Short Ram vs Cold Air Intake
We dyno test a factory stock Civic VTi Air Box as base
to compare to a Short Ram intake and a Cold Air Intake
let’s see the results of the fabled “SRI for top end”

Luckily the 1996 Civic Vti at the shop had a completely stock Air box with filter that it became a perfect test bed for testing a Simota style SRI with filter and a Cold Air Intake with the same filter to make it a fair test.
I’m still surprised that to this day there are still peeps saying “SRI for more top end” and I guess the myth gets busted now if ever so this is a fun test indeed

Nice video but did you use the standart paper filter inside the stock air box or KN panel filter. Because the only difference in the Dyno results can be the paper filter itself if you using it. Try another dyno test with KN panel filter if thats the case!

Dyno results dont really translate to real world running conditions because when you drive the car the hood will be closed and now the hot engine air will be sucked into the engine with the ram intake and it will loose power but with the stock airbox this wont happen. I believe the stock airbox is the best if you modify it and remove the resonator chamber like Spoon does. There is a reason why Spoon cars use the stock airbox and their cars perform really well with reliability and consistency. You wont get reliability and consistency wit the ram intake.

    • @SRDmotorsports

You should always try to run the stock CTR or if you have the ITR intake also, you can look up how to modify the stock intake because it's very similar to a cold air what's it pulling the air from the lower half of the car. Also, I believe if you tune your car to accept the aftermarket cold air intake you should get better results On my b20b with p8r I'm currently sending that 220 but I run the hks pod filter because it has a built-in velocity stack with a ram air tube set up from The lower half of the car to my pod which is segregated with the heat shield Always like your videos.
