- OLD SCHOOL BLACKBERRY DUMPLINGS
This is an old school country recipe
Most people doesn’t know about this recipe
But it’s awesome and good
RECIPE
3 cups of fresh blackberries
1 cup granulated sugar
4 oz butter
1 tablespoons cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tablespoons vanilla
4 cups pineapple juice or apple juice (juice preserves the natural fruit flavor)
2 tablespoons cornstarch(FOR SLURRY)
FOR THE DUMPLINGS
3 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
4 oz. butter
4 oz. shortening
1 tsp salt
1 cup WHOLE milk
combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl
cut in butter or shortening
add milk and mix until combined
roll out dough and cut in 2 in squares and place in hot blackberry filling mixture
very slowly a few at a time so they wont stick or fall a part
after all dumplings are in pot
cook slowly and add cornstarch slurry to thicken(if needed)

Omg, I still eat this now, and yes, my Mama use to make this for. Every time we visited my Daddy side of the family, we would pick blackberries out there in Calvert, Texas. Rip Mama and Daddy.

I use to pick blackberries back in the day, and some good and bad memories
Wow My mom used to give us kids a couple coffee cans and we'd pick berries in the woods. Then she would make a big pot of wild berries dumplings. 😋

Chef Jefferey, my mom (RIP) used to make Peach Dumplings when I was a kid. She used the smaller canned biscuits and canned peaches and would pour ice cold milk over it when she served it. It was a special treat she would serve with Fried Chicken and Corn on the Cob. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

Brother, I would be over 600 lbs if I was your neighbor, lol. This recipe works well with frozen peaches, blueberries, or even mixed berries. I put less juice with more fruit so it's a little bit thicker and serve it over either vanilla or butter pecan ice cream. My family and friends tongues be slapping their foreheads when eating it.

Yes I love me some peach cobbler. My oldest sister she love peach cobbler that's where I get it from her. She would make her cobbler on top of the stove. Talking about good mmmmm mmmmmm 🤭she won't do any other cobbler though. She looks at me like a I'm a foreigner if I mention another berry cobbler 🤣😂😂😂😂.

Hey, Chef. Thanks for making this blackberry dumplings dish that takes me back to my childhood. Me, my siblings, and my friends used to go out and pick the blackberries off the bushes/vines. Mom made the dough and cut it with a knife to make her dumplings. She did thicken it with flour & water. I also use to smash berries in a bowl with sugar and milk and eat it like that. I love some dumplings,especially chicken and dumplings. My grandmother & aunt use to cook the blackberry cobbler and blackberry dumplings. Theirs was delicious. I love blackberry cobbler. I'm like you I like the juice and the crust. I tried cooking the blackberry dumplings, but seems as though mine did not turn out right, so I did not give it a second try, so I will stick with making the cobbler. Yours look delicious. Here in Florida the older ladies made something like this but called it a Doobie or Duby. No pineapple juice though just lots of sugar, some water, butter to make a delicious blackberry sauce to cook the dumplings. Of course the spices and vanilla & I think a dash of lemon. They would dish it up for you in a bowl and top it with some Pet milk or cream!

Omg!!! This is my childhood Chef. We would go to the Clinton Farmers Market in the summer and Dad would buy the big bushels of berries, oranges, apples, pears, plums, and tomatoes. We had to peel everything except the oranges par- boil them in hot water add sugar and bag them and freeze them. All winter long mom would make cobblers, dumplings and pies😋🙌🏽

I never picked blackberries but I knew people who did.They said snakes would be around the blackberry bushes.Blackberry dumplings are a favorite from childhood and as an adult. I have not made those dumplings in a while. I would strain mine too. I didn’t like the seeds in the blackberries.That blackberry juice is what’s making those dumplings so delicious.An amazing dessert.Have a blessed and prosperous Friday Chef.❤
