As an old duffer, I can't believe you did this in your driveway, in the winter. I've got a few 2nd gens, but would love to add a nice gen 1 to the garage. I wouldn't hesitate to do this job, but I think I would make room in the shop first ! Great vid.
Oh hell yes I did!! There's no stopping when the excitement to build something like this is all I think about! Lol. Thanks for the kind words 🤟 a 1gen in a big shop/garage is a dream of mine like you said
Nice work that's a big job. Did you end up putting those "core support" looking brackets in above the front spring hangers. From the factory they only had one rivet in them, good to use both holes and two bolts instead. Some of those brackets had a tendency to loosen up the rivets over time. You going to put factory w350 blocks in the rear?
Yes I did, I'll show them in the next vid! We made a set of gusseted brackets since I didn't save the factory ones and these are BEEFY! And yes definitely going to do blocks!
Absolutely the best video on this swap on the internet. I bought a whole 4x4 frame for my swap and planned to swap the whole thing but my truck is in slightly better shape so now im leaning towards swapping the member and perches. Any chance you remember exactly what size bolts you ran?
@NaztyNate appreciate it man. Also a quick question. You drew the template to cut the hole for the lever in another video. But how did you line it up before drawing it?
Want to do something like this with my 2nd gen can it be done without a full frame swap don't want to swap everything over would much rather do some fab work? Need pics of the frames and differences in the frames
@@NaztyNate I know there were some differences but figured I could fab it together, buy great job on your conversion got a lil bit of a Carolina squat at the moment but 3 inch block should change that pretty quick
Looking real nice ! Was this a kit? Those u bolts might need some anti sieze and cut off the remaining length of threads! Keep us all informed on your LS swap on the BMW !
I was thinking that about the u bolts! It was not a kit, I got all the pieces from a parts truck or ordered new. And I'll make videos of the LS swap for sure!
@@NaztyNate Yes I watched your other video and it explained how you got the parts! The Getrag are great transmission using synthetic motor oil and over filling it by one quart! That stearing plate that you took off is unobtanium and they go for good money on ebay by the way! you might want to change over to a Borgenson steering as that is what I have done on several First gen dodges ! Once agin that is One Nice looking first gen!
How many days in total did this take you from taking everything apart to putting it back together? Also where did you buy the brake lines? I’m 4wd and manual swapping my dually this summer. I already have most of the parts
Good job. If this me I would’ve bit the bullet and put coil over setup on it since you’re already going through all that work. Lets face it leaf springs are way to stiff in the front. But thats just me.
I REALLYYYY wanted to but it was just going to cost too much for the set up I wanted. So, I thought factory would be best. Also, these are "soft ride" leafs and so far they don't seem too bad!
Nice job. I just did the exact same swap. Luckily I had 2 doner trucks to pull parts from. It is my sons truck and it was a 91.5 2wd dually turned into a 4 Ed single wheel. I’m actually pretty impressed that you didn’t pull the engine to swap the cross member and to to all the hole locations.the crossmember must have been a bitch to get back in with the engine in place. Nice job. His truck is coming a long really well
Oh yea plus his truck since it was a 2wd automatic I had to cut the floor pan out and weld in a 4wd manual cab floor pan. That’s a real intimidating undertaking cutting a perfectly good floor out. Lol. This truck will end up with a factory getrag.
The nice thing about the bolted in crossmember now is if you ever need to do the oil pan gasket. You should be able to get it much easier. Also I used all grade 8 bolts and hood pinch nuts for everything. I’m still going to double check them pretty often to make sur the don’t work loose. I sure don’t want my kids truck with loose front end. By the way that is one clean 1st gen you have. I actually have 3 of them but one is a 86 gasser. I’m working on getting a 12 valve to put in it. They are all 4wds and all flatbeds.

I just tackled the same project on my 1990 dodge d250. Took a whole weekend. I did the same as you i put crossover steering.
That's the way to do it! What trans and tcase you running?

Either 1/2 or 9/16 I can't remember, there is a size that fits in the rivet holes perfectly

snowstorm coming this weekend, I wouldn't want to see the 1st gen ruined by salt, but you have 4WD for Snow.
Where can I buy the leaf spring hangers? Or do I need to find a parts truck and cut them off?
put an om606 in the m3 please! can make 600hp on stock block

Where did you get the leaf springs and hangers

How did the transmission crossmember go in?
Trans cross member bolts to the bottom of the frame, had to drill new holes for it.
@@NaztyNate I have a 92 d250 I’m thinking about doing the same thing. Would I get the same front axle as you?

@hoffpauirconcrete.semperfidCC yes, someone put dually flares on before I got it
@NaztyNate factory dually flares on a srw bed?
@hoffpauirconcrete.semperfidCC no, they made conversion flares years ago, it is a srw bed but the flares are made to look factory
