    Your girlfriend is the real hero of this project. Spending hours upon hours in the garage, sanding, filming, sitting bored out of her mind on her phone. You better put a ring on it when you're done with this project.

      Shit it happened to me when I had bought my Saab 93 and I for sure thought I fucked something up from the bottom of my car and I was so scared as it was a new car and I saw the jack and it was all twisted up and the pavement was chipped. I was lost for words cause I knew that could had been my leg or arm since then I've always been worry to lift my car. Lesson learned

    A few thing... First, don't let people discourage you from making something and learning from the process. Even if it takes you a long time, and you have a lot of setbacks, you're learning and that's what you wanted to do.
    Second, wear a face shield whenever you use a grinder. Every time. Even if it's just for a few seconds. They are very dangerous. Google grinder injuries.
    Third, welding takes a lot of practice. Keep at it. It's a ton of fun.
    Last, people whine about this project being too long and a waste of a car... Guys, maybe he plans on keeping the car and driving it until the wheels fall off.

    I love your work, and the fact that you just get out there and get it done. The more you weld, the better you'll get. I suck at it, and its because I don't do it often. Really nice attention to detail on your fenders. Have you considered making a more permanent mold and selling your fenders? Wouldn't be a bad idea to monetize all that work you've work you've done.
    I'm sure someone has already addressed this, but please don't put your legs under the car when you've just got the car sitting on a jack. Put a stand under it or something. I'd hate to see a thread where you've got broken legs, or worse.

    Do you like the rust spots on your glass? Grinding and welding sparks immediately etch glass and stick to it, after a few showers you'll see little rust spots!! Or just wet your hand and run it across the glass, you'll feel them.

  • @VdubSPAZ
    @VdubSPAZ 6 років тому +5

    Hey great work and don't listen to the haters... Trolls are everywhere.... What you were asking questions about your welder and why was making funny sounds... If you use flux core welding wire you must reverse the internal polarity from negative to positive it's different for gas welds as you must switch the polarity again for gas well.... Mig stands for Metal insulated gas or something close to that flux does not require gas as it has its own shielding due to the flux... ... When you welding body panels try using .0 twenty-five as it's less likely to burn through the metal .... But again if you figure this out I'm just repeating myself but great work and have fun learning...

    Best to tape of your windows when grinding, if not you get rust sparkels in them afterwards.
    The welds arn't not only ment to keep dirt out but also to keep the strength in your chassis.
    You should not weld all in one straight time, your plate could bend out because of the amount of heat you bring in, always weld in shorter pieces and on different spots to give the heat the time to cool down even.
    The weld went not very good because you wleded outside and the gas was blowing away, just do it inside. ;)

  • @markalmelo
    @markalmelo 6 років тому

    Dont forget to put rust prevention on the inside! In europe its called ML, it comes with a little hose so you can put it thru a hole on the inside and spray everything, otherwise it will rust in no time because you grind en welded it

    Now the car is wider definitely do the rear brake light mod which enabkes the outer edge leds as braking as well. I can't remember the diy thread but you literally order a pair of thin wires from BMW and insert them into specific pins and it enables the outer leds to brake lights which would really beef up your wide look...

  • @Thesvls

    little piece of advice, while you're cutting away big chunks of fender, spray a thick layer of bodycoat in between. the e46 has a reputation of rotting away in those places ;)

    Love the progress Kyle, but I beg you - PLEASE never, ever work under a vehicle that is supported by only a jack! Maybe I’m wrong, but a couple of times during this video, it appeared your legs were under the chassis when the car was held up solely by the jack. When a jack fails, it often does so with zero warning. Please use a jack stand, buddy! Anyway, another great video. Can’t wait to see this thing all finished up!

E46 M3 are fairly common. And who cares how long it takes, its not a daily, hes showing some commitment and obviously isnt spending 40 hours a week on it and no doubt had to work/study and fund the project. Some of the safety related comments should be taken seriously however. Keep at it mate!!! Life is about experiences not youtube comments :)
