  • ►Replacing the engine air filter in your Porsche 996 911 is an important and often overlooked maintenance task. Whether you're in your engine bay for other routine maintenance or if you notice some of the symptoms of a clogged engine air filter, it shouldn't be ignored.
The engine air filter in your Porsche filters the air before it reaches your engine. A clogged filter does not filter as efficiently and blocks the precious airflow that your engine craves. It's not uncommon for an extremely clogged filter to reduce the power output of your engine as it's starved for air.
On the Porsche 996 911 Carrera, Carrera S, and Targa, we recommend replacing the engine air filter every 10,000-miles. However, a quick inspection can easily determine if you should replace it sooner than this as it's heavily location-dependent.
This DIY guide covers engine air filter replacement on a 996 Carrera but applies to both the Carrera S and the Targa models. If you have a Turbo, Turbo S, or GT3, we'll have a DIY for that at a later date.
