We got one 3 years ago, great little car. Amazing in the snow, in NH right now. But check your fluids frequently! Ours had a flaw from the factory and leaked fluids. 38,000 miles and needs a new engine. Found many owner reviews talking about fluids too. Didn't like it at first but it really grew on me. Check your coolant, and oil levels at times. Hope you enjoy your first car!
If you're someone who drives on the highway a lot and want someone truly compact, this is the perfect car. I have the 2018 model of this and I love the features on this car, the any blind spots are very small due to the trim. The drive is crazy smooth, you can go 0 to 40 with a toe. Maintenance is slightly more pricey because you have to take it to a Jeep dealership, but it can last very long, I haven't had any broken parts yet. The back up camera works very great at night, instead of night vision, it's bright light. The Bluetooth connects very well to several devices, has great speakers. Air bags are basically everywhere. Tire changes are cheap for model. Push to start, push the button to ONLY turn on the battery, foot on gas then push the button to start. If the trunk doesn't lock, it's because it has a safety feature to not lock the keys in the trunk, like many of us have done 😣. Unlock the car then close, this will let it know that you have the keys.
THANK YOU FOR THIS COMMENT. I've been wanting to get this car but really not sure. I've seen so many comments saying not to get it! Can I ask you how much you pay for gas?

I bought a 2020 Renegade because I'm disabled and sitting in a car for too long is really bad on my back. The renegade I can be in all day and it is a dream. Also, I can do neck stretches, back stretches, etc, while driving as the car's seating position allows for a full upright stretch and space around the drivers seat you can bend and twist a little while driving.
I had the renegade for a little over 3 years, mine though was a 1.4 turbo 4x4 and 6 speed manual. It was a great little suv. Very practical, spacious, easy to drive in the city and good on snow. I liked it. Other compact SUVs got a boring design, or poor interiors like Chevy trax.
I have a 2015 trailhawk model. So far so good no problems. They replaced the radiator fan for free due to recall. I have the same engine. I bought an madnessautoworks pedal to help with acceleration slowness. This Jeep is excellent when going to Sams club and Walmart as well as feed store 50 pound wild bird seed bags. I do all those errands in one visit and this Jeep excels in cargo space. Best of all it’s so easy to park and maneuver. I’m hooked on compact SUVs now. I been looking to trade it in for something more “reliable” like a Toyota but that company has nothing in their lineup to match this renegade. I test drove a Prius. I like it but insurance is gonna be more a month. And it’s even slower than this renegade. I pass on the Prius for now. If this Jeep breaks down I’m just gonna pay them to fix it. But so far nothing has gone wrong.

Seems like it is one of those crap parts everyone ends up replacing. I'm not a Jeep fanatic- never owned one before and don't care much about brands. I'll say this- if you need a subcompact sized vehicle with 4x4, this one is great. I test drove nearly everything. Mazdas, Sportage/Sorrento, Escape (and even Edge but that's not really apples to apples), etc. For the price point and what you get, this one beat them all. Kia models feel crazy cheap inside- the Jeep feels sturdy. Mazda is more "sporty" fun to drive, but very low ride view and I hope no one who gets in is over 5'6". Escape was ok, but once I put 4x4 and one or two features in it I was in the $30s. Last thing- you mentioned Eastern WA. I had to wait for them to re-open the highway around Pendleton during a snowstorm one night. Semis and cars sidelined everywhere with about 6-8" on the ground and still falling. I went 50mph the entire 3hr drive through the mountain passes and such back to Idaho....not a single slip. This thing has been great for me. I can load plenty of gear, it offers smooth town driving, and I can still park it anywhere. Good choice for a subcompact SUV. Financial recommendation- Altitude trim is most bang for your buck. Or if you are thinking about adding all the packages to a latitude, just buy a base model limited trim.
I still have a Jeep Patriot, a model which is no longer available so am very interested in the Renegade. The acceleration doesn't bother me....same on Patriot.
We've owned our 2018 Renegade now for just over 2 years and it's been a great little addition to our household we also went with the Latitude trim but we got 18" wheels, passive entry along with the 8.4 inch Uconnect which is awesome and simple to use we average 25mpg city and on the Freeway we usually get around 29mpg on average. We haven't had one issue with ours whatsoever in the 25k we've driven it.. Granted it could use a little more power but once you become accustomed to the way it drives you adapt your driving style and live with it... Another complaint I keep hearing about is the price..... Come on People !!!! MSRP was $28,950 for ours we paid 18,900 OTD so deals can be made... Those who complain that it is Italian and made by Fiat yes it is but the 2.4l engine is made in the US it just uses Fiat's Multi Air technology the transmission is made in the US as well and is a ZF unit built under license by FCA. We love our Jeep Renegade and I've been a Dodge/Chrysler/Ram owner since 1984 when I bought my first Mopar and I've never had a bad one period... Maintenance is the key to any car period if you fail to maintain your cars it will fail you... Somewhat solid review Raiti but the Renegade 2.4 only makes 180hp and the max it makes is 184hp in the Cherokee because of better flowing exhaust manifold. That Latitude had only 1 option on it was the power drivers seat. A simple view of Jeeps website will show you their are tons of options available for the Renegade. Plus the competition has no answer for the Renegade Trailhawk which puts it in another class on its off road prowess...
Just bought one used at 44k miles clean service history ,was weary of bad reviews. So had em do a full service and got extended warranty on major components.
I have a 2018 Renegade sport and I absolutely love her!!! She is great for anything I have to get done more reliable than our GMC in the winter in some cases. The gas mileage is great and I only need an oil change like every 8,000 miles and it is so much fun to customize and make her stand out for me just how a jeep should be!!!💖 #jeeplove
The owner's manual says to change oil between 3K to 5K miles because the variable valve timing system is unusually oil-actuated, and it requires very clean oil to operate reliably over a long period of time. Otherwise, the engine will die by 70K miles, where it normally should last close to 200K miles.
It is not good. It is very good. I had one with the 1.3 Turbo for 1.5years and 20k miles. Overall great, nimble, economical mini crossover. I would have kept mine still but traded for a Stelvio. Again...great, great and very underrated car. I would buy another one for sure.
Thank you Joe! I have the 2018 Renegade Latitude and like it a lot. Not a lot of changes over the years. Hopefully the 2021 will have some refreshments.
I have a 2018 Sport with the 1.4l turbo and 6-speed manual and I really enjoy it. It's a fun vehicle to drive. I have driven a lowered 2007 Honda Fit Sport 5-speed manual since 2006 and the Renegade is as fun as it is to drive but I don't have to worry about scraping everywhere I go. Backroads are fun again. And as a plus, I can drive to the top of my property and not have to worry about getting stuck, goes good off-road, but I wouldn't be doing anything crazy, think more rally car than Jeep.
I was in love with this car before I bought it but I wish I could trade it in for something bigger. Make sure to get a 4 wheel drive because a jeep without 4 wheel drive is pointless. I live in a rural area and I was surprised how wimpy it is. I was stuck in my yard the first day without 4 wheel drive. I wouldn't buy it again. The passenger side barely has room for legs (my husband is only 5'11 and it is very uncomfortable for him). There is also not really a place to set your right arm. It just hangs there because the arm rest is way too low. The shape of the car completely blocks the blind spot.
I've got a 2017 Renegade. I've put 76K miles on it. Only complaint is that the front passenger seat is basically unusable if you have a rear facing child seat in the back. Front facing child seats fit great. You can actually fit 3 of them in the back.
0-60 time means nothing. These vehicles are designed to get you where you are going, no matter the weather. Not to win a drag race. Add AWD (it's NOT a 4X4!) and you are good to go until the very worst of winter storms. Upgrade further to a TrailHawk and you get a multitude of off road goodies that you will probably never use, but feel good knowing that they are available if ever needed. All this in a DD that gets decent mileage and at a fair price. Winner winner chicken dinner!
I’ve been seeing these specific Jeep models around a lot, and I noticed a lot of them have very bright colors like yellow, red, and even shiny teal! While other modern cars also still offer fun colors, something about the Jeep Renegade felt…a tiny bit more personal yet still affordable and practical! Not to mention kinda cute! I’ve had multiple ideas of what my daily driver could be if/when I get my license! And I’m curious to know if this little Jeep might be a worthy contender…🤔
A lot of people who have never driven or owned this car hate it because of the ownership by Fiat (who also own Ferrari). That doesn’t make it a POS. The car looked at objectively seems fine but nothing exceptional. At this price point that would have been ok in the past but the competition is so hot now. There needs to be more enjoyment and depth to the drive and better quality materials used.
I've driven plenty of them and I can assure you they are nothing but POS. I've worked with them and have seen two transmission go out under 20,000 miles on two different cars. My company got rid of them because customers hated them so much.
@@Noah-ui1iu My husband works at a indy transmission shop here in Detroit and I've walked in on alot of 2014+ cars of ALL makes/models with these fancy 8+ speed autos and CVT/dual clutches already up in the air on his lifts. Don't believe the hype... My little 2013 Chrysler 200S has 132k as of today and has been "almost" flawless lol, never cost me more than a couple hundred bucks to fix the couple times it has needed it (knock on wood lol).
Hey Joe, thanks for doing a review on the Renegade. Hopefully you can do a review on a High trim level preferably one that has the removable roof. Overall I like the Renegade, the only compation in my option it has is the Kia Soul. But where Jeep wins is that the Renegade has 4 WD and the Uconnect comes standard with apple CarPlay and Android audio like you mentions. Now Kia with there redesign you have to purchase the higher trim level to get those options. If there is 1 issue I have with the Renegade is that it's manufacture over seas from the Fiat chassis so having it imported takes longer which is why you don't see many on the roads today.
Great Video! Love my Renegade, my only negative on this vehicle is mostly the transmission, I wish it had smoother shifts. It’s sometimes can’t find the right gear to be in.
I am enjoying mine quite a bit. There are definitely better daily drivers but I wanted something for my short commute and that also can get me up some mild to moderate rough roads for climbing/hiking locations. It fits my lifestyle perfectly. I have the Altitude trim.
These are a rebadged Panda, a world car that has been being made for 15-20 or more years. It ought to be pretty much trouble free. The 3-cyl turbo looks to be a good engine from what I have read.
I think if they got rid of the 1.3 and just used a 2.5 with 190hp 185lbft with a turbo option for the trailhawk trim and a 8 speed instead of 9 it would be significantly better
My wife loves her renegade. I would advise you to find a different dealer than Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald's only offer to fix the damage they are responsible to our jeep was with cheap aftermarket parts. We have been dealing with Fitzgerald since 2010 with great experience until last year when we bought our jeep. Buyer beware.
Greetings from Scotland 🏴 👍, im getting a 2018 jeep renegade 1.6 diesel multijet limited version in black with 18 inch alloys full leather, heated front seats an steering wheel 6 speed manual, hoping pick it up from car dealers on Sunday 9th September, love the look of this car, my friend keeps telling me dont buy it coz it will be problems and says its ugly , but i dont care, from reviews ive seen an read theyre reliable and love the American looks of the jeep renegade, cant wait get mine 👌👍😀
My dart had the same engine. The car just wasn't built to last. If was falling apart after a few years. I like the styling but the lack of power and other market options keep me away. Why buy this if you can get a crv or rav4?
My son has one (he’s 17) and I think it’s a perfect first car for him. I am not worried about him being safe, and it’s affordable so that’s what I wanted.
Jeez, I'm Mid 50s and the Renegade is the best car I've bought let alone a car for a 17 year old! Mind you, I'm in the UK and new drivers usually get a small 6-10 year old car like a Fiesta etc.....
Thanks for the review. I just bought the 2021 version they went as low as $17k here in CT. I had a Fiat 500 so I'm already use to slow acceleration. I really like the vehicle and surprised by the negative Fiat comments lol. I had one strange problem with my Fiat 500 that got fixed but no out of pocket costs in my 6 years of ownership outside of maintaince. But I guess your YMMV.
Nice video I never looked at a lower trim or 2020 ones. I've had two 2015 & 17 both Trailhawk's only different in that one inside is i have leather on everything that's cloth, and i have a full size spare. Outside different story i have 2inch lift eibach pro lift springs different skids and 235/65r17 atturo all terrain tires now its about 11.7in ground clearance. Love ya videos keep it mane!
It’s similar in price to the Cherokee, but the Cherokee has a much quieter interior, more space, better seats, etc. I wish Jeep would drop the price of this to $19-$20k starting. Then it might be appealing to me.
My grandmother had this suv as a loaner when her Pacifica Limited was in the shop, I'm not a fan of the engine it's very slow and drinks more gas than her van surprisingly.
I'm considering a Renegade and looking at all the packages they offer with each model. One concern for me is whether there is a/c in the back. My 1984 Cherokee Chief and my 1994 Cherokee Country both had rear air that was vented at the lower console - it was really useless and both models were terrible to drive in the blazing heat. With all the glass, they simply would not cool! Considering a new model now I want something that will cool in the back, as I have a toddler who will ride in a car seat another 3-4 years. I wish manufacturers would consider kid-friendly features in these compacts - let's see some of the rear a/c features! Thanks.
I drove a rental of these that had 4,000 miles and the cloth was disgusting. It was already coming apart and unraveling, it was super scratchy and left my legs and arms red and itchy. Ended up getting a compass latitude with the fake leather interior and that was well worth it
For me that cloth is a selling point. I've had my armrest reupholstered in cloth. Rubber, vinyl, leather all sweats during the summer. Sticky, nasty. Cloth is forgiving, and with a lint roller, all good and no sticky!
Renegade design has potential. Has a great initial look to it. I just can't support the gutless powerplant. The top of the line trim on these (Trailhawk/High Altitude) is a dinky 1.3L turbo with 177hp 😖. For entry level, fine, but for their best offering, that's what we should expect from the 90's era, not 2020. If they gave the Renegade a proper punch (somewhere above 250hp) with traction going to all 4 corners, upgraded the interior, this could have been a great little option to get into a fun compact Jeep.
Great review! My wife was looking for a small suv and the Jeep Renegade seems to be just what she’s looking for. If you could find another smallish suv in the same category as the Renegade, bring it on.
They are nothing but cheap junk, I've worked with them and have seen two transmission go out under 20,000 miles on two different cars. My company got rid of them because customers hated them so much and because of how many we would have out of service. Do your research. FCA isn't known for quality.

Thanks for sharing that great input from our experience!
Just bought one used at 44k miles clean service history ,was weary of bad reviews. So had em do a full service and got extended warranty on major components.
My wife is in love with this car. She looks at this like how I do the Shelby GT500 with the CF & Stripe package.
I am so glad that she likes this one.

@@caitlynk7276 just got a 2018 latitude....How is yours holding up....
I said it once and I'll say it again, Raiti's Rides has a car review for all of my searches
I bought my 2015 renegade, and i love that thing, it’s fun to drive, has a lot of room, and i haven’t had barely any problems with it!
This is so very true!
Thanks for sharing that great input!
See this is actually good information. Thank you! Most of the critical comments are along the lines of "Fiat 500 jeep bro".
@aviato287 x well I am glad you like yours. It is too small for my family.
@aviato287 x you can have a different opinion. You don't need to insult me to state your opinion. Have some class.
I just bought the Jeep Renegade Jeepster. Love it.
Congrats Jeff! That is so awesome to hear!
“space for MREs” lmao i love this guy
I've got a 2016 Renegade Latitude with the 1.4 turbo & a 6 speed manual transmission. It's been a great vehicle.
Thanks for sharing that great input from your experience!
I've got a 2017 Renegade. I've put 76K miles on it. Only complaint is that the front passenger seat is basically unusable if you have a rear facing child seat in the back. Front facing child seats fit great. You can actually fit 3 of them in the back.
Three years ago today!!! Still my SUV Joe.
I've had my eye on this since the Wrangler is so expensive. I'm excited to get one soon
My exact reason too
I didnt know the sham wow guy sold cars...the younger generations will never know what im talking about
0-60 time means nothing.
That's what she said....
T K 🤦♂️
I am enjoying mine quite a bit. There are definitely better daily drivers but I wanted something for my short commute and that also can get me up some mild to moderate rough roads for climbing/hiking locations. It fits my lifestyle perfectly. I have the Altitude trim.
I've gotten the best gas mine since February. Thanks C19!
These are a rebadged Panda, a world car that has been being made for 15-20 or more years. It ought to be pretty much trouble free. The 3-cyl turbo looks to be a good engine from what I have read.
Thanks for sharing that input!
I have the 2016 Trailhawk Renegade, and love it.
Thanks for sharing that input from your ownership experience!
I think if they got rid of the 1.3 and just used a 2.5 with 190hp 185lbft with a turbo option for the trailhawk trim and a 8 speed instead of 9 it would be significantly better
Seems like a great first car... But I would go with a Kia Soul for this kinda car
why is that?
i have kia soul and i want to change to renegade, any advice?
@@omarfikret1011 don't get it. this car is super unreable. its made in Mexico and china so don't buy it
Here in the UK a great first car is a 20 year old Ford Fiesta!!!!!
I love my 2020 Jeep Renegade Latitude. I just gotten it yesterday (9-12-20) I got it in black.
A little early on the cut at 4:42 but excellent video as always Raiti!! Really wanted to learn about this vehicle!!
Great review! Thanks for the review can u please do a trailhawk model! That's the one I am looking to purchase would love your opinion thanks Joe
My favorite Renegade review so far! And I loved how you included snack storage options lol 😉

Everyone’s just going to pretend he didn’t say there’s a cubbyhole for fireballs? 7:05
My dart had the same engine. The car just wasn't built to last. If was falling apart after a few years. I like the styling but the lack of power and other market options keep me away. Why buy this if you can get a crv or rav4?
I miss the Liberty man. Wish that would come back. The 2008 design refresh was fucking bonkers back then and I loved every bit of it.
Just bought one same color too and loving it
My son has one (he’s 17) and I think it’s a perfect first car for him.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
Here in UK you can now get these for £13 to £16k. Mines red and I gave it a demon shine today 🚗
Renegadetrailhawk_chuckie I have a 2018 trail hawk with MySky. I still like my Jeep!
I share the same thoughts with you Lavonte!
I have a 2021 Jeep Renegade sport 4x4/awd. I am in upper mid Ohio with the weather mix and it is a really good daily driver.
My girlfriend has this car , so I just wanna learn about it to know how to handle certain things when they come up
I’m currently shopping around for a new car ,, will probably go for this one in black... good review as always ..
Everyone has their own opinion but I love my 2020 Renegade latitude!

The holy sh*t handle?
What a great review! I am considering to get this one even if it’s already 2024. Do you think this is still a good vehicle?
Ended up getting a compass latitude with the fake leather interior and that was well worth it
Thanks for saying this, was thinking of getting one.
I go Kona Limited over this for the MSRP. But if you want a Jeep you’re gonna get a Jeep so I get the more expensive price
This man is magical
Thanks Sierra! That is really wonderful of you to say!
I like that they added the fake vents on my renegade 😅😅😅 I think it looks cute/ better than just a chunky plastic bumper
There's no way it's a 9 sec 0-60, I have the 2018 Lat with the 2.4 L, and it whips.
I've got a 2019 Lat with the 2.4 L and I agree.
I bought one today. I think 9 seconds is about right.
@@wakkywabbit5446 did you get a 2.4 latitude as well? Welcome to the Renegade club
Wow that inline 4 engine makes a helicopter/thumping sound as it drives.
LOL
Think that was his mic lol.
For me that cloth is a selling point. I've had my armrest reupholstered in cloth. Rubber, vinyl, leather all sweats during the summer. Sticky, nasty. Cloth is forgiving, and with a lint roller, all good and no sticky!
Ive been researching for years and the conclusion is that FCA Corporation ( Jeep-Dodge-Chrysler) is the king of recalls.
This is very true!
Love your content Joe!
We all do 👍

Great review! My wife was looking for a small suv and the Jeep Renegade seems to be just what she’s looking for. If you could find another smallish suv in the same category as the Renegade, bring it on.

They are nothing but cheap junk, I've worked with them and have seen two transmission go out under 20,000 miles on two different cars. My company got rid of them because customers hated them so much and because of how many we would have out of service. Do your research. FCA isn't known for quality.
I like the renegade, but I think that compass is better, at least because of the interior
