For 31k and a Maccy D's in change it has absolutely no competition....will swap out the PS4's (rears haven't got a lot of life left!!) for Cross Climate 2's in a month or so's time being rural where I am and back to the 4's in March.....Excellent review and thank you Toyota for making such a fantastic product.

    The GR86 is one of the best cars that isn’t sold in Romania.
    But available in Hungary for under €40K.

    I guess that emissions prevent N.A. vehicles being made in larger numbers, rather than the 2030 -> 2035 date. Fiscal stuff puts hybrids on folks drives…..sad since there is no way that this great car pollutes more than a 2 plus tonne hybrid SUV.

      Long live cars like the GR86. Fair play to Toyota for making it. Very much felt like a back to basics fun sports car 👍

    • @arcelivez
      @arcelivez 11 місяців тому +1

      Exactly. And also it's not just about the per 100 km emissions, but also how much you actually drive the car in a period of time. I know many EV people who in reality pollute way more with their EV's than many people with these... Let's be honest EV's aren't really pollution free as they are stated officially...

      It's the lake of collision prevention cameras etc which is why it won't be on sale after 2023.

    I just got mine three days ago. It is a great car. Road noise is totally acceptable. It is very balanced. And the simple dashboard speaks of Japanese minimalist design of the 80s. It is really nice.

    Driven a GT from 2014 and now have the GR. Both have massive smile factor, yes the GR is a bit more refined but honestly driving on the road there is not much in it. The GR is a lazier drive as it has buckets of torque for the weight of the car having the bigger engine. The GT, you can drive quick enough once up to speed without going through the torque dip legally. That torque dip has made much conversation, you just have to drop a gear and get over it on the GT. To drive the GT quickly you do have to rev the engine... but the red line on these cars are at 7500 rpm for a reason!!!. The GR on the 18's has significantly more cabin noise then the GT on the 17" primacys, but the new combo makes it a lot les twitchy at the back, no bad thing considering the extra torque. Not gonna say the GR is not a whole load of fun, because it is, and it does it in a way that is slightly more relaxed than the GT. But both give an extremely engaging drive. I used the GT as a daily on a 130mile round trip commute for 3 years, motorway and God given moor road, needless to say always happy at work. Seating in both is possibly the best I have had for long drives. Economy is interesting, sticking to speed limits and being very careful I can tickle 44mpg on my round trip commute (70 miles) out of the GT and about 40 out of the GR. Constant 70 will probably get you 38/36 respectively for the two cars. These cars are so slippy and have a small front cross sectional area and do incredibly well at speed. ( Both will get more motorway miles than our LEXUS CT HYBRID as the extra weight of the hybrid (1.8tonne) is doing nothing on the motorway except add baggage) the areo and lack of size means they pull really well at speed. Diesel hatches might have similar 0-60 times but as speed picks up these things pull hard on a track well through 3 digits. Smiles for miles are clear in the video and I think either platform is going to be a benchmark for some time and maybe difficult to beat here in the UK. Either the GR or I think a 19 plate GT will have good following for quite some time, especially with Toyota's rolling 10 year warranty here in the UK. What's not to like! Great review Sam, sometimes it is not about the numbers. IYKYK.

      The previous gen (BRZ) is worse in every regard except steering feel, rawness, fuel economy and a bit wider boot.
      Put on some quality light weight 17" wheels (OZ is great) and 45 tyres (not something sticky because why would you if want to be tail-happy) and it will be surprisingly compliant even on dogshit pothole-filled roads.
      Average MPG (UK) between the two - 1st gen BRZ for almost 10 years: 37 (about 60% normal roads with 56mph limit and 20-20 city/highway) vs 2nd gen BRZ: 33 (45% normal roads 45% city 10% highway).
      The cities appear to impact the FA24's efficiency the most as I can easily average 40 MPG without going through one while having 35 MPG at 80 MPH highways.
      Handling - 2nd gen is more settled and less skittish than previous one; same tyres same wheels: I could floor it during the same corner and had a more confidence inspiring feedback over the 1st gen, which started to become slippery, in a bad way.
      Performance - 1st gen went like this: wanna overtake? 2nd gear. wanna take a corner at spirited speeds? 2nd gear. etcetcetc until highway speeds. With 2nd gen you can be in 3rd and even 4th most of the time and not lose speed nor waste time shifting down because peak torque comes at 3700 compared 6600 in previous (obviously this is under normal street driving).
      The FA20 felt like a chinese made mixer and sounded like one... it always felt like it wants to choke on itself. The FA24 sounds okay (fake sound disabled) and is much better to rev its tits off while actually sensing some push.
      Comfort - 1st gen was firm, more so under subzero temps. 2nd gen fixed all of said issues, the seats do felt like sitting on a stale burger bun at first though - needed a few days to settle down and be ultra comfy.
      No sound insulation so music must be set way above 15 to hear anything over tyre/road noise (even with touring tyres) above 70 mph, this hasn't changed over the 1st gen other than no plastic rattles added to the symphony anymore.
      Looks - subjective so who cares. 2nd gen does appear to be more chunky and grown up.
      Conclusion - get a 2nd gen if you want to keep it, 1st gen if it is waaay under market price.
      2nd gens performance is on the level of a low-boost supercharged FA20.
      There are so many better options for similar money if talking used market, the twins are in a rough spot in this regard.

    Interior engine noise, is man made, the sound generator is behind the dash on the passenger side. You can easily unplug it.

    • @SamAustin
      @SamAustin  11 місяців тому +1

      GR86 is more fun and more engaging to drive. To be expected being a sports car. The swift sport is arguably much more better as a daily whilst still being a good laugh but I would take this all day long👍

    I put my name down on the reserve list at the start of September with toyota online.
    Picked my car up on Monday, and I'm so smitten with it. They won't be on sale after 2023 due to safety regulations mandating collision detection, lane keep assist, bla bla bla.
    If you are thinking about it, put your name down for one. Less than 2 months left!!
