Finally, I have been eagerly awaiting your report on the GR86. I really enjoyed listening to every single word and couldn’t agree more. I've opted for a manual for spirited road trips, besides my Boxster Spyder, but I fear the Spyder will become even more of a garage queen as the GR86 is so engaging and exploitable at reasonable speeds. I took delivery with the annoying fake engine noise disabled. The genuine boxer sound is much more interesting and suits the car much better. Thank you very much for making this video! I'm looking forward to the practicality vlog.
Nice. Thanks for sharing bro. I feel the same. I’d get this if I haven’t had the alpine. As for the Spyder I think it’s still special and gives a different experience with the top down.
@@xccude power is something you need to have fun. But enough power is enough. After 1 month, a 375hp m2 would not be much inferior to a 450hp m2, especially after considering reliability, wear, consumption. Too much power can also kill joy, i shifted for fun not necessity in an m135i with a stage 1 chip. The fun in driving is reaching the limit of the machine.
@@marcwang4830 I have a c63 and hardly drive it to its potential as it's so easily overpowered and loud and also scared that it will kill me as the rears slide so easily. I would see why the gr86 would be more fun to drive than just sheer straight like power.
Traded in Alfa Romeo Guilia for new BRZ. Nothing is more satisfying that lightweight RWD & stick shift. The twins are amazing sports cars! If you’re thinking about buying 1 just go for it.
I think the main reason is GR86 have less power and NA, you can have fun anywhere, any speed, any gear, while M2 or Supra need to be pushed to the limit to feel the same.
I had a 2016 BRZ manual. The best thing about it was steering feel. I've heard that the new platform has loat some of that. Would you agree? I'm seriously considering a gr86 and your input and this video has been invaluable. Keep up the great videos!
Yes it has lost some. But it’s no where in the “bad” or “average” category. It’s definitely up in the good category. And it’s very direct and accurate so no complaints at all. I can place it exactly where I want to be. But in return you get so much more back. So IMO I’d go for the upgrade if I still want this platform…. Or try something new 😂
I owned the original, the refresh and the newest now it did lose some feel but not enough to be a problem. I do however hope someone online finds a way to get the old feeling back
@@Austinomoni had a 13 GT86, 2019 BRZ and have driven a GR86. My 13 had the best steering and found the GR86 to be identical to my BRZ. Do you know if the steering changed when they facelifted the twins in 2017 🤔
When I lowered my car with Eibach springs it gained a lot of steering feel back. Even before that the car communicates her intentions before it happens. The twins are amazing & I’ll buy another if anything happens to her. 1st time I said this about any car
This is an example a car that is greater than the sum of its parts. The euros are far too complicated for their own good and start to fall apart far too quickly. If you own a euro car, your engineering knowledge will grow not by choice! I went from an m135i to a suzuki swift sport and to the amusement of many. I just drive it, fill up petrol and washer fluid. Such a relieve! What makes a good sportscar ? A car that is exciting to drive even slowly. A car that lets you have endless fun on the road reliably.
Guys can you help me? I sold gt86 and bought 2.0 supra. The supra is great and better, more complete, but I don't feel the joy and severity that the gt86 had…now I'm thinking about selling the Supra and wondering between m2 og vs gr86 (both manual). Do you think the m2 will be significantly inferior in driving pleasure? I'm afraid of the engine in the gr86, in the gt86 I replaced the engine after the rod knock 🥶
I like the first gen (FRS) better in looks and steering feel. I just been hearing about a lot of issues with the second gen, it seem like it wasn’t quite ready to be released due to the pandemic or it was a rushed project.
I dont haver personal experience. but what I heard is that BRZ's rear axle is tuned to be more stable and tends to understeer more than the oversteer on GR86.
@@ThomasYap i assumed it was manual because at one point towards the end of the video you said , if given the chance take a manual because of the gear shifting , hence why i asked.
He was saying that the manual was better. But earlier in the video he said he is driving the auto. Plus you can hear he’s paddle shifting. No clutch on a car with paddles

@@ThomasYap Absolutely. For me, the Spyder is a unicorn - can’t be compared, especially with the top down.
Mine arriving this month, in this color and in manual. Thanks for the vid Thomas
i love that you are skilled enough to be explaining the benefits of the car in a second language while drifting around corners in the rain
Awesome review so positive and motivating. I got my 2024 GR86 3 weeks ago. So far so good
Sweet. And congrats!
I sold my M2 and bought one of these a year ago so I agree with you.
Sweet!
Do you miss the power of the m2?

@@xccude wow c63 ! Its a riot ! Great tourer ! I’ve concluded you need more than 1 car.

Great review. I totally agree it should be a manual gearbox instead of an auto to maximize the performance.
100%. and takes engagement to the next level
I love dashcam videos of the gr86/brz. And that road looks amazing.
great car for the price ... definitely will get it one fine day.
Definitely!
Very great job man! It is possible for your next videos to fix a camera on the pedalbox to film your footwork please? :)
As a 2nd car, would you pick this over mazda miata ?

Even with automatic it’s this good. How will it be in manual trans...😮
Confirm better in spirited driving
Love this GR the handling and now has an engine to actually match the chassis..... Has to be manual though

If you have the budget, stretch to a 718. Since you had the GT86, you won't feel a big difference.
If cannot then I'd stick to the GR86. :)
Am wondering if it would be possible to improve with a gearbox tune so it's smoother. Would be a boon in traffic having an automatic gearbox
Possible. But I think the manual is way more fun to drive.
can u explain sir why not 2.0 supra over this is it supra drives bad
Supra doesn't drives bad. Still a great car. For me, it doesn't have the engagement like the GR86 does.

Based on the question you're asking - my guess is that you live in a parallel universe that requires you to use clutch for automatic gearboxes.
