I would stop that. B6 Toxcity may plague you one day. The neurological effects can be devastating. We only need 2-3 mg daily. Don't say you weren't warned.
If you want to be extra safe you should make sure you have adequate selenium and other minerals to prevent the P5P from being converted to the toxic form. Magnesium and riboflavin are also needed to convert back to active. Other mienrals are zinc, iodine, calcium, heme iron etc.
So sad that you’re not mentioning toxicity of B6 since it is considered harmless and in so many vitamin supplements in excessive doses. Why aren’t you talking about B6 Neuropathy. I developed Brachial Radial Pruitis from excessive B6, a severe radiation itch that ruined my life until I was able to figure this out.

There are facebook groups about b6 toxicity. Many people with neuropathy upload their blood tests about high or very high b6 level. Mine was 36,4 (reference range: 5-30) after taking absolutely no b6 supplement for 4 years. I left them because of neuropathy. B6 supplementing is very dangerous for some people.
Absolutely it is. They need to put labels on supplements to warn people --- The high amounts in supplements is beyond ridiculous. Even at low doses it can cause problems in some people
I started taking a liquid vitamin and within a few days I started having tingling and numbness in my fingers. I’m wondering if this is a sign to stop taking it or if it’s just mild discomfort.
I just read a study on a reason why vitamin b6 in Pyridoxine form may cause problems at toxic levels, problems that seem very similar to b6 deficiency (the neuropathy etc). It is claimed that this is because the inactive form pyridoxine competitively inhibits the active pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (p5p). So that is apparently why you get issues with Pyridoxine HCL supplements, the supplements aren't letting your body use the actual form of b6 it needs. (It's interesting to note that I just saw a comment on another video about how Pyridoxine HCL helped them with their "b6 deficiency" and P5P gave them anxiety, I'm thinking the person actually had too much b6 maybe?) What do you think of this? As I currently don't have access to any university or organisational accounts I can't read the full paper. But I read it in the summary. I imagine you might be able to read the full paper. It's called : "The vitamin B6 paradox: Supplementation with high concentrations of pyridoxine leads to decreased vitamin B6 function" by Misha F Vrolijk et al
B6 as p5p is the only form the body recognises. Other forms are either artificial or not bound to co factors. And thats the reason why many people struggle with pyrodoxine HCL. That some people struggle more than others is probably related to having the mthfr gene mutation or not. Then your body can only use methylated/activated versions of the B vitamins, and all others either cause problems or are completely ignored and deposed off unused.

Hello DrSung, I was told to take 500mg of extended-release B6 for fertility purposes and only found ER B6 as pyroxidine HCL. Do you know of a formula that has 500mg of ER B6 as P5P? Thank you.
100mg of P5P should be more than enough. If you really want 500mg then take 5 of the 100mg capsules of P5P. 500mg could cause damage long term and 50mg long term is considered the safety for a 10:1 safety margin.
100mg of B6 for 30 days would leave most people with B6 toxicity and given that the symptoms of deficiency are the same as toxicity, many people up the dose thinking that they need more! It can take a long time for some people to get rid of the neuropathy that excess amounts of this vitamin causes, and some people never recover.
I got toxic from my prenatal vitamins which contains 10 mg of b6 i took for my entire pregnancy and now am suffering form it's toxicity mainly peripheral neuropathy

IMO, thiamine is the most forgotten of them all and B6 (too much) can induce a thiamine deficiencybecause they are antagonist to one another. Excess B6 symptoms almost line up exactly with B1 deficiency symptoms. B6 IMO, should be used in moderation (less than 50mg and balance that with more B1 so you don't have problems). Folic acid does the same to B12 especially for those with MTHFR mutation because they can't convert Folic acid into the proper form of methyl folate. So it will actually induce a neurological manifestation of B12 deficiency and make it worse all the while masking the anemia doctors are looking for in B12 deficiency so a test will show as normal even with a B12 deficiency. Both B12 and B1 are crucial to brain and heart function.
But the doctor says take the active form P5P not just Vb6. Vb6 itself is inactive and liver has to work hard to make it active. Did I hear it right from the doctor?
I've been taking 150 mg of p5p for awhile now and still do not remember my dreams. Anyone take higher p5p amount? Does mercury toxicity cause b6/p5p depletion?
I’ve been suffering from depression since I lost my optic nerve vision at age of 47! I’m left with prefer! I had 2 A/fib! I have blockage of my arteries! I take thyroid and migraine meds for years! I heard vitamin b6 is great for our circulation? I hope that’s true??
It would have been well worth covering the dangers and risks of B6 toxicity from the many supplements being sold at stupidly high levels like 500mg. I inadvertently caused neurological damage that manifested in severe pain in my feet that has taken 18mths to heal. For many not so lucky, the damage is irreversible. So everybody be careful, don't take too much B6 additionally.
@@tahirahmed33 That's a sensible dosage. Just be careful with B6, it's important but can also build up in the body over time. Thankfully I've fully reversed the nerve damage a year on but it's taken a long time. Luckily I caught it early and worked out the cause.
Thorne basic B-complex are all active. You could also add 100mg of P5P from another brand like Nutricost or Pure for 30 days and then back down to around 50mg P5P. Take 100mg every other day if you want.
I just got the magnesium and b6 supplements from a brand called bluebonnet. It has 25mg of b6 and 400mg of magnesium per serving. Do you think that the dosage and amount are reasonable or are they too high? Thanks a lot
Smaller dosage of B6 is fine. Just be cautious that that it's not in your multivitamin and other supplements that you are taking, also. High dosage of B6 should be in the from of P5P.
The long term recommended dose is no more than 50mg since long term 500mg can be toxic with a 10:1 safety margin. But, it should always be the P5P form and even that can be toxic in some cases if deficient in selenium and other minerals and magnesium and riboflavin are needed to convert back to non-toxic form. GABA is needed to prevent toxicity because inactive B6 stops GABA in nerves. 100mg of P5P for 30 days should be fine.
@@shiamakhangout4136 You welcome. it is actually 100mg for the upper tolerable limit in America I meant to say. 1/5th of the known toxic for the inactive form. In Europe the upper limit was 25mg now is 12mg, but this is all based on the inactive form, which you should never take anyway. Other minerals are iodine, heme iron, calcium, zinc.
Dr. Sung, I ordered 100mg of the p5p form. In hindsight I kinda wish I had bought a smaller amount like 50mg instead. Just a bit nervous reading the toxicity replies. Stupid question but if I was to take 100mg every other day, would that be the same thing as taking 50mg per day?
In the 70s med students were experimenting with taking high doses of B6. Since B6 is good for brain function, these fellows started taking enormous amounts. 2000 mg to 5000 mg/ a day. That's where the fear for B6 comes from. When these students stopped, symptoms went away and they were back 'normal'. So 2000mg and up is way to high. However 100 mg, 200 mg, 300 mg / a day is fine. I myself take 100 to 200 mg.
@@chiojamStill lower doses are always better that start with to build tolerance and see how your body reacts. Everything I take I start with moderation and lower dose available that will still give me some benefits and then from there I up the dosage.
B6 (pyridoxine HCL), 200 mg for 4 months, eliminated joint pain in my hands and lower spine, eliminated all pain from bi-lateral ITB syndrome of hip and knee, eliminated muscle tear pain, and mostly reduced new de quervain tenosynovitis pain. Now im wondering, can it help with 8-year patellar tendonosis pain? Its been almost 5 months of B6 and ive yet to notice amid rehabbing and bone broth's pain reduction effect; would P5P be effective for it? When i stopped pyridoxine, i developed mild restless limb syndrome (and found out why), so now I take P5P form hoping to see greater improvements.
@@Pulga232 P5P form of B6 has undone restless leg issues, but i haven't stopped taking this form, so I don't know if the RLS would return or not if discontinue. All the pain mentioned remains low or non-existent.
Diet high on B6 probably? Or mthfr gene mutation. Or deficiency in other B vitamines. It can be caused by a lot but the first is most likely. If you indulged on a meal of chicken and fries the day before bloodtesting, it sure will be high.
Its because a bloodserum level super high in B6 can still mean you are deficient. Check the other bloodmarkers Dr Sung mentioned, and see if they could possibly tell you you are deficient as those markers are more reliable to 'diagnose' your B6 status. Vitamin bloodserum tests on their own are waste of money imo. Luckily many get replaced with active cellulair tests like is basicly standard now for vit D and iron. I hope it will come for the B vitamins soon as well, deficiencies in B vitamins is too common and not detected with bloodserum tests so people still suffer. I think I dont want to know the outcome if they tested people on cellulair levels for the B vitamins, the world would be shocked to learn almost everybody lacks one or more B vitamins.
I use Country Life Coenzyme B-Complex, it has the P5P plus the correct B9 Folate NOT folic acid and the correct B12 Methylcobalamin NOT cyanidecobalamin
a b-complex with 10mg of P5P like Thorne basic would be better. You can get 100mg P5P from nutricost really cheap. Just take every other day if you want for 50mg which is safe long term dosage prodived you have adequate selenium, other minerals, magnesium and riboflavin.
@@anntarn7278 Some people also have problems processing that, so best to keep the dosage low if you are one of those people. 10mg a day would be a safe maximum to try and you need to know how to detox if it happens. I think taurine and NAC help with that among others.

So it will actually induce a neurological manifestation of B12 deficiency and make it worse all the while masking the anemia doctors are looking for in B12 deficiency so a test will show as normal even with a B12 deficiency. Both B12 and B1 are crucial to brain and heart function.
@@timetoevolve5519 It looks like it's just better to get B vitamins from food since food gives a more balanced and effective result. Do you agree?
But the doctor says take the active form P5P not just Vb6. Vb6 itself is inactive and liver has to work hard to make it active. Did I hear it right from the doctor?
@Sophie-y1b9z Its a process called methylation to make it in to the active form. I
There is an active form of p5p and some do not mention “active. Is there really a difference?
You are great doctor.
Good to know. Thank you
Thanks for watching Nick.

If a person eats plenty of high quality protein (omega eggs, fish, chicken) do they need to worry about not getting enough B vitamins?
Is taking high dosages of B6 toxic .... Is 10mg or less better and safer ?
Take P5P for safety.
@@DrJinSung next time I'll buy p5p b6
Can I take more than 10mg p5p b6
It would have been well worth covering the dangers and risks of B6 toxicity from the many supplements being sold at stupidly high levels like 500mg. I inadvertently caused neurological damage that manifested in severe pain in my feet that has taken 18mths to heal. For many not so lucky, the damage is irreversible. So everybody be careful, don't take too much B6 additionally.
Yes. That is why I recommend P5P
You take the toxic B6 not the P5P.
I just bought a 10mg B6
@@tahirahmed33 That's a sensible dosage. Just be careful with B6, it's important but can also build up in the body over time. Thankfully I've fully reversed the nerve damage a year on but it's taken a long time. Luckily I caught it early and worked out the cause.
@@Libertas_P77 even 10mg is too much. 2.5 to 5mg is better ,but you can't buy this mg anywhere , 10mg is smaller I've seen
Is there a combination of all three ( B 12,B 6 and B) all active forms of them in one tablet?
@@DrJinSung Thank you so much! Truly appreciate it!
Mg najlepiej przyswoisz jak tę dzienną porcję podzielisz na minimum 6 porcji dziennie. Rewelacja takie dawkowanie. Pozdrawiam
Caution magnesium over long periods of time will deplete potassium.
For how long can u take B6 for ?? Like a month everyday or like every alternate day as I don’t want to overload
@@MrApplewine thank u so much
@@shiamakhangout4136 You welcome. it is actually 100mg for the upper tolerable limit in America I meant to say. 1/5th of the known toxic for the inactive form. In Europe the upper limit was 25mg now is 12mg, but this is all based on the inactive form, which you should never take anyway. Other minerals are iodine, heme iron, calcium, zinc.
Thank you.❤

IS B3 SAFE AT HIGH DOSE ?
Start 50 mg thrice ....gradually increase upto 2000 mg a day
@@cosmichealth3907 Thanks for that much appreciated ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
@@chiojam Thank you. I was hoping it was just something being exaggerated, as people tend to do with other supplements as well.
@@chiojam also 200mg of the active forum p5p is ok?
@@chiojamStill lower doses are always better that start with to build tolerance and see how your body reacts. Everything I take I start with moderation and lower dose available that will still give me some benefits and then from there I up the dosage.
That clap made me subscribe, wala 😅
What about b6 toxicity?
B6 (pyridoxine HCL), 200 mg for 4 months, eliminated joint pain in my hands and lower spine, eliminated all pain from bi-lateral ITB syndrome of hip and knee, eliminated muscle tear pain, and mostly reduced new de quervain tenosynovitis pain. Now im wondering, can it help with 8-year patellar tendonosis pain? Its been almost 5 months of B6 and ive yet to notice amid rehabbing and bone broth's pain reduction effect; would P5P be effective for it?
When i stopped pyridoxine, i developed mild restless limb syndrome (and found out why), so now I take P5P form hoping to see greater improvements.
update?

Oops hi polor
My doctor is freaking out because my b6 is 28.1ng/ml. Told me stop taking my B complex. Is she right??
My vitamin B6 just came back VERY high and I take zero vitamins or supplements. What on earth is causing this?
Diet high on B6 probably? Or mthfr gene mutation. Or deficiency in other B vitamines. It can be caused by a lot but the first is most likely. If you indulged on a meal of chicken and fries the day before bloodtesting, it sure will be high.
I have toxic B6 tripel more than normal and have side effects same that someone with deficit of B6
I have too much B6 and my hands and feet burning and tingling!
So where would you find the p5p b6? Never even heard of that.

Is B6 Pyridoxine HCL B.P.25mg a day dosage is enough for adults?
a b-complex with 10mg of P5P like Thorne basic would be better. You can get 100mg P5P from nutricost really cheap. Just take every other day if you want for 50mg which is safe long term dosage prodived you have adequate selenium, other minerals, magnesium and riboflavin.
Don’t take Pyridoxine HCL, take B6 P5P (Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate)。
@@anntarn7278 Some people also have problems processing that, so best to keep the dosage low if you are one of those people. 10mg a day would be a safe maximum to try and you need to know how to detox if it happens. I think taurine and NAC help with that among others.
Can a low GGT also mean there might be a B6 deficiency?
Can an internal medicine dr help me with these tests?
Yes, they should be able to run the blood work.
Is it possible to be active b6 deficient and high in b6 unactive form?
Yes, and the inactive form blocks the active. Never take the inactive to be safe.
super helpful
Dear Dr.JinSung, hello from The Netherlands. Unfortunately here in my country they don,t see the importance of adding vitamines for disease. I took a look at your website and i see that you,ve helped a lot of patients, if i didn,t live at the other side of the world i would book a consultation. I practised muscle testing myself for a long time and came out at especially vitamine B6 , and also B12 . I don,t know if you read your you tube comments nowadays but if you are willing to suggest and know what vitamines for the chronic auto immune disease Myasthenia Gravis are beneficial i would be very greatful. I also struggle with chronic depression and anxiety. Thank you for reading and your in depth video
