The reason why they have all the pubs in one street is really because it makes commercial sense and convenience for its customers to be able to enjoy the atmosphere with friends and just one place where there are several pubs of various ambience. It’s not at all about it being a Muslim country and definitely not alcohol being served in just a few places like these pubs.
Comparing Kuala Lumpur to Singapore is helpful because I've been there and Bangkok, Hanoi and Saigon. As you were walking through the underground mall, I noticed how similar it was to Singapore. I enjoyed all of those cities but found, as a Westerner, that I was more comfortable with my personal space in Singapore. I don't know that I could ever get used to the heat, though.

To know Malaysia is to ❤ Malaysia ..
Thanks for the comment 🙌🏻
Thanks...glad on your honest views on KL, not everything is perfect in KL but it is still better than many cities in Asia or the World...
Thanks! I was genuinely impressed by the city 🙌🏻🇲🇾
No one thinks the country is bad, just the main religion keeps people on the fense
@@justbdsd4569 Whut??
@@justbdsd4569 What main religion are you talking about that made people on the fence? Islam is the main religion of Malaysia & yet receiving more visitors than many countries in Asia or the World where Islam is not their main religion.... don't generalize without knowing the facts or with your bigot attitude towards Islam..
Welcome to KL, Malaysia. Hope that you guys have had a good time and a pleasant stay in KL. Please do come back for another visit.
If I'm not mistaken, the food, the rice with curry lamb shank and fried chicken that you guys had in the KL Pavilion food court is called 'nasi kandar'. It's quite a popular comfort food especially in KL and Georgetown, Penang. It's the food culture of Mamak, the Indian Muslim community in Malaysia.
Thanks
That food was unreal! I can’t wait to have it again already haha. Thanks for the comments and explaining what that dish was called 🙌🏻
@@josh.onthemove Haha. No problem. Glad that you had enjoyed nasi kandar. 😀
@@josh.onthemove Have a great day. 😀
They have the best mall designers in the world. You won't find anything as near KL malls, not even in Singapore.
It seemed that way, never been in so many malls in such a short space of time!
seriously? where are you from?
Are you sure about the malls? I disagree!
What about the cleanliness of the city?
@@Catzfamily269 he/she not comment about cleanliness, dont worry our country not perfect, not everywhere is clean. seems you never visit all malls in Malaysia.. i dont surprise you dont know, we have theme park in malls, a river , ice skating and more..
@@Catzfamily269 you're welcomed to check it out with your own eyes.
Josh another great video.
Good on you for pronouncing Kuala Lumpur correctly as my Malay pal always made me laugh when he said it’s like umpah loompah like Charlie and the chocolate factory.
Try Penang island if you get the chance too.
Delightful people in Malaysia and the only downside is that the party side is a little conservative but hey that’s understandable in a Muslim country but the people truly make up for it!
Keep em coming Josh!
Lol yeah i cop heat for this too haha
@@MJP1970 haha thanks mate! I’ll defo try Penang next, heard good things. This was for my Thai visa renewal, could’ve easily done longer in Malaysia!
The Muslims in Malaysia don't judge you😊
Some say live in Malaysia, work in Singapore party in Thailand.
Proud to be a Malaysian.
Respect 🙌
You are right about the row of bars in KL (there's another area full of clubs). But there's also bars at more residential areas.
Thanks for confirming and giving more info, I felt that might’ve been the case 👍🏻
Bars concentrated in the suburban areas that have the most ex-pat....in kl city centre proper there will b in changkat bukit bintang, trec kl, and a few dotted along jln ampang....but there are several areas that r also main party scene like bangsar, mont kiara, uptoen damansara (sec14/16?)and in Subang Jaya (Sunway) too...
There are many bars at roof top buildings, Petaling Jaya and many other parts of KL.
The most important thing is keep KL underrated and keep it for yourself to enjoy.
Is that why no one has sold it to me previously 😅??
We really don't mind people praising our neighbours...let Malaysia be underrated.
Malaysia, truly Asia ❤
Seems like a great place
G’day mate, hope you’re having a ripper adventure! Besides hitting up Kuala Lumpur or West Malaysia, I’d reckon you should leg it over to Sabah (East Malaysia) on Borneo island. There you’ll get to see a whole different side of Malaysia with nature that’s fair dinkum & shows the true blue Malaysia 😀👌
Thanks mate. I plan to explore more of Malaysia next year 🙌
KL authority need to do more about walkways and pavements.. the cracks and shoddy patch up is embarrassing.. beautiful old building need to be restored and put to use now.. Malaysian reading this.. please do something.. plead to your authority.. saved them.. now..
Many old shops in KL are privately owned and difficult for the owners to release for development if it is demolished and built, KL will be a great city
Selamat datang ke Malaysia, Terima Kasih 👍👍👍
Thank you 🙌🏻
Next time go the east coast- Pahang , Trengganu and Kelantan. It’s s more laidback but food is fantastic. Check the islands around these states too.
Will do, thanks for the comment!
welcome to Malaysia,have fun 🎈
Thank you!
It’s good to see your drinking water with your meals instead of soda , I’m 60 , worked out my entire life but the one bad habit I had was I’d drink on average two 12 oz diet cokes a day. About a year ago my stomach started to get hard as a rock ( not from doing sit-ups ) ..it was a bit distended and I was starting to think I had stomach cancer . Long story shot I stopped drinking soda cold turkey and switched over to only to drinking water,…within a week or two that did the trick,.. my stomach went back to normal ( there’s no doubt in my mind it was from the soda, and you’ll never see me drink soda again )
@@johnmellyn2700 water or beer, nothing inbetween for me John! Thanks for the comment, I’ve always thought the fizzy drinks long term can’t be good and it’s interesting to hear you confirm that. Glad you’re better now 👊🏻
Welcome to Malaysia.Glad you have enjoy yr trip to KL Malaysia.Hope for your next visit you can visit other attraction like Genting Highland, Penang, langkawi, melaka,Ipoh,Sarawak and Sabah of east Malaysia located at Borneo island.Cheers.
Thank you! I hope to travel around and visit more places next time 🙌🏻
As a Malaysian, I'll say that Kuala Lumpur is sort of a Cliff Notes summary of Malaysia. It's the natural starting point for anyone coming into Malaysia, but if you get a chance, go out of town and visit places like Malacca, Alor Setar, Ipoh, Kuching or Penang. You'll appreciate the change of scenery, and if you thought the food in KL was already great, you'll be in for a treat visiting these other cities.
for locals we have many places for cheap products. maybe you can try if interested. just go for gm plaza or kenanga mall compared to petaling street.
Welcome you to come back to Malaysia again. There are other parts of Malaysia that may give u different vibes, e.g. Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Melaka, etc. From reknown tropical islands Pulau Redang, Pulau Tioman, Pulau Sipadan, to million years old Mulu caves in Borneo, to food heaven Penang island etc. Much more to explore
It is the Goldilocks city in the Goldilocks country- well-priced, lovely people, not too strict, excellent food, the sun shines every single day. Selamat Datang ke Malaysia!
Lmao that's a really good way of putting it ngl
As a Malaysian, thank you for your honest reviews~ sometimes KL is not perfect. Each cities has their pros and cons. Also if you want to find locals go to Kampung Baru, bcuz KL has a lot of foreign workers there..
I’ll explore more next time, thanks for the comment 😎
Actually back in the 90's KL City Area are filled with Clubs and Bars, in those days Changkat Bukit Bintang scene was nothing in comparison. Most popular ones are like The Beach Club at Jalan P Ramlee, Hard Rock Cafe at Concorde Hotel, Planet Hollywood at Bukit Bintang, Fire Club at Shang'rila Hotel, The Zouk and many more. These are mainly city centre, not mentioning the other area such as Bangsar, Sunway, Damansara and Petaling Jaya.
Would’ve loved to have seen it then be now!
@@josh.onthemove yeah man. the scene was change because back then, the operational hours are mostly up to 5 am but now i think they need to close the business at 1 or 2 am.
Welcome to our beautiful Malaysia 🇲🇾❤️😊
Thank you 👊🏻
Great insight 👍, I am in Da Nang jan/Feb.. but this is definitely on my list
Thanks! Da Nang is great, hope to be back there next year too🙌
By the way, Chinese Beef Roti is actually from western China and not Malaysian. Local Chinese food mostly originates from Southern China
Thanks for the info, I figured it was Chinese as the name mentioned but that’s good to know. It was unreal 🔥👌🏻
It’s never too late to finally experience KL it’s been like this since 2000-01 my boy
Of course it’s not :)
What you ate at the mall was cooked in rendang curry style. A complex potpourri of curry, coconut and spices. Food is Malaysia’s best offering.…if you are adventurous, it’s heaven. If you are a picky eater… you will miss out.
Thx for d honest impression
Thanks for the comment 🙌🏻
Thanks for this. I'm moving from London to Da Nang but going Kuala Lumpur for few days first.. I have a feeling I may want to stay in Malaysia!
Very insightful. It's good to keep an open mind and not have any expectations of places, especially coming from the west.
Always an open mind. Thanks for the comment 🙌
Proton is Malaysia National car, second is Perodua. Both are our proud brand in automotive industries. Oh there a bike too its called Modenas.
Bufory is another level car made by Malaysia..this company produce handmade car that can compare to Bentley and RR..😊
You can still book a Grab at Changkat area but cross the street to the apartment nearby (opposite Havana).
In every big city around the globe, no matter how good they try to market it...there is always a darkside...always...and its you to unveil those
Welcome to Malaysia 🇲🇾
Besides the western city feel. You should try coming to Malacca (Melaka) just less than 2 hours away towards the south of KL. Malacca is more rich with cultures, foods and European structures left from the colonial eras. Stay safe and have fun buddy 😊
People often associate or compare capital cities but they rarely compare the suburbs of the capital cities . Pro tips , most Malaysians hate to live in KL , packed , hot , full With tourists . KL is just a place to work for most people . I live in Subang jaya in the district of Petaling jaya ( often referred as PJ ) and its miles better .
Well, I guess you would see the most Proton cars in Malaysia then anywhere else because it is our national car. Proton is a Malaysian brand. :)
Haha maybe that’s why 😉😅
Feel free to revisit Malaysia again. I assume that there are plenty of nice places which you haven’t been visit yet.
Looking forward to it!
KL is simply the most underrated city of the world... But I'm a proud KLian and a proud Malaysian as well... 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
It definitely impressed me!

Bro.... What u "see" is what u "get".... depends u're "looking" for what.... nothing perfect for everything.... "know Malaysia is to love Malaysia"...pls don't hesitate to come again
Dude, you just visited all the tourist traps in Kuala Lumpur. Take a trip to the suburbs like Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya or Subang Jaya (use the train). That's where many Malaysians working in Kuala Lumpur will stay.
Try explore areas just bit outside KL ie Putrajaya. There are great places to visit.
Next time!
Taxis are a bit expensive try taking a grab with the app if you can.
Why not live there, Josh?
I chose Malaysia over Thailand 3 years ago and haven't regretted my decision one moment.
Never say never, it's a nice place!
When you mentioned that there is a lot of Proton Cars in Malaysia, you made it sounds Like Proton was producing in other country. Proton is Malaysian based car producing company. The words proton comes from "perusahaan otomobil Nasional. Or literally translate to the National automobil company.and awek have the second automobil company called Perodua. Dua means second.
I’ve seen protons in other countries, very rarely tho. I never knew they were from Malaysia!

Hello,
Great video !
Do you know a SIM CARD in Malasya that also works in Singapore ?
Even with just data ?
Thank you very much for your help.
Good question, I don’t know one specifically to recommend actually but I do know is if you purchase an international E-sim, they’ll show you which countries it covers and you’ll be all set 👍
As much we appreciate foreigners can adapt our diversity ... that much also we will appreciate foreigners could adapt the pronunciation of things in malaysian lingo. I.e :
Kuala Lumpur = koo are lar Loom poorr.
Roti canai = row tea char ni.
Nasi lemak = nar see luh mark.
Here the pronunciation for:
A is are.
O is owe
U is oo
E is uh
I is ee.
Our tounge is adjustable to shape in pronouncing foreign language but it jitters me when the foreigners ignoring the local lingo eventhough they spent so much days weeks months or even years in Malaysia. Sigh😩. Anyway enjoy your stay in Malaysia. Malaysia is not about just Kuala Lumpur but we are peninsular n east Malaysia of Borneo Island. Need more than 1month to explore Malaysia. Stay safe
Try to get used your right hand for spoon n left hand for fork like locals. Spoon is the main player n fork as the assistant. You'll get surprised how sooo practical it is to be that way. No matter what type of cuisine you get. The most practical for us is our 5 finggers to eat. Hehe 😊
In the UK it’s meant to be left hand for fork and right hand for your knife, I’ve not done that in 30 years and don’t plan to change my ways now 🤣
Thanks for the comment. To be honest I found that so many people spoke English that it didn’t cross my mind in that short space of time to learn any of the language 👍🏻
@@josh.onthemove it's okay. Just enjoy your journey. You are welcome to Malaysia at any of your time. Keep smiling 😁
The first part of the video you are walking at the back alley of the restaurant street which tends to be dirty and no one walks there (where restaurants take out the trash etc) the main streets are mainly clean
Did you watch the video? I said the city seemed very clean 👍
there's a lottttt of foreign labors in Malaysia such as Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Indonesian so if you see someone stares into your soul, just so you know they're not local and i apologize on behalf of them if they have strong odor 🙃

Unlike Thailand and Cambodia, Malaysia has the feel of a European city partially because of its colonial heritage from the British, like Singapore. This is also reflected through the country's legal system, education system, political system etc.
Dutch and Portuguese influence can also be seen in Malacca.
