Tuomas creates such an atmosphere with those first notes on his keyboard, then Marko comes in singing-speaking like that, ufff... It feels so dark, yet so great, they always take the songs they play to a whole new level, all of them being so invested on it, Marko's loooong notes, Jukka on that "marching" drum followed by Emppu's solos, then Tuomas again with those haunting keyboard notes? Just, amazing
Old Metal Rock head here saw Pink Floyd three times also a big Nightwish fan as you know. This is not a cover it’s a tribute to Pink Floyd suggested by Marko because Tarja had a complicated costume change and Marko is a huge fan of Pink Floyd. Your not wrong in liking Nightwish version over Pink Floyd’s because I myself love this Tribute because Nightwish made it their own inspired by the love of Pink Floyd! As always Stay Safe God Bless and Rock On!🙏🤘🤘🤘
One of the things that make this performance even more powerful to me is the fact that this was the last show with their original singer, Tarja. There was a lot of turmoil within the band at that time, and at the end of that show, Tarja was going to be handed her dismissal letter, a fact that was known by all members of the band (except her). Thus, this particular show has a special vibe. It could have been the final show of Nightwish as a band, the night their High Hopes were dashed.
Ever since the late 70's, when I was around 10 years old, I thought Brian May of Queen was the best guitarist ever. Bur after hearing this song some 5 years ago... Emppu is on the same level...
Well, maybe you should widen your horizon a bit. For me the best on the guitar is Jan Akkerman. Focus was the band he played in. However, Streetwalker might be his best song ever ua-cam.com/video/IxmiSW-8j_M/v-deo.html And what Brian May said of Jan might be the best accolade ua-cam.com/video/PWFA1wz0wFk/v-deo.html
Nightwish, they are always good, no matter if they play their own song or a cover song. Their talent and stage charisma!!! Living with music! 😊 The "Tarja era" was a time when they often did cover songs, because Tarja changed clothes several times during the concert. So the boys then played something else. Like this song. Ozzy Osbourne cover "Crazy Train" is also good! Marko singing again! 😊 Speaking of cover songs, Nightwish just released a new version of the cover song "Phantom of the Opera" on their UA-cam channel. This time the singers are Floor Jansen and Henk Poort. Absolutely awesome!!! 😍
What a tribute ( Not Cover) from Nightwish to this legendary song 🤩. Marko is a living legend !!!!! Also... Songs covered by Nightwish:
Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore cover) Walking in the Air (Howard Blake cover) The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber cover) Symphony of Destruction (Megadeth cover) Elvenjig ([traditional] cover) Finlandia (Jean Sibelius cover) High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne cover) The Mug of Brown Ale ([traditional] cover) We're Not Gonna Take It (Twisted Sister cover) Wild Child (W.A.S.P. cover) Stone People (John Two‐Hawks cover) Alone (i‐Ten cover) Ace of Spades (Motörhead cover) Don't Talk to Strangers (Dio cover) Locomotive Breath (Jethro Tull cover) Money (Pink Floyd cover) Rock Around the Clock (Sonny Dae and His Knights cover) Show Me How to Die (Battle Beast cover) Wonderful Life (Black cover) NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
I love Marko as much as I love Floor. Been listening to his latest solos with his new band....amazing! Two of my favorites...so far.. is Stones and Voice of my Father.
What makes this performance so extraordinary is the fact that Jukka suffered a murderous migraine attack that night due to his permanent insomnia. You can see that very well as he always bends over his drums.
Don't worry, even Mr Gilmore is reported to be a fan of this tribute, and as I life long Floyd fan, I think this version sounds better than the already amazing original. 🤘
Aahh finally, you did it!!! Yay!! I fell in love with this first time I heard it, and it's definitely the Nightwish song I've played the most since discovering them. I hate covers generally (this is a tribute btw), and was hesitant at first because I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but oh my shit this one is good. It's a lot darker than the original, and Marko is a monster on those vocals. Glad you enjoyed Jynger. Hugs from Wales Recommendation: Deep Silent Complete (live, Wishes to Eternity).
I agree re High Hopes plus "Dark Silent Complete" with Floor from Buenos Aires 2018... the whole show infact with Floor breathing new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band 😊👍
Empuu, as the only guitarist of the band, bring all the "metalness" on his little shoulders 👌 I'm always impress to realize that after each songs 🤟 And that scream from Marko at the end.. He's a great singer in deed, but, with his emotional side, he's one of the greatest 🌹
I won't stone you, Jynger, because I think you're right. This tribute (it's more than a cover) is better than the original and I love both bands. A Marko-gasm is a thing, indeed. Marko released a solo album in 2020 (English version: Pyre of the Black Heart and Finnish version: Mustan Sydämen Rovio). Some great songs on it, like Stones and The Voice of my Father (breathtakingly beautiful, but a difficult one as the title already suggests). There are videos of those songs here on UA-cam. And then...this reactor, reacting to Nightwish....DAMN!...that's all I got to say! Love your reaction!
I have a sibling that is 63 years young, who is a huge Pink Floyd fan....like he owns everyone of their LP's...CD's...more Pink Floyd t-shirts than he can count...and like you...he loves Nightwish's version! I am sure others might know of more songs featuring Marco as lead singer...I know of "The Islander"
Marko has performed with Delain over the years and may have been their producer at one time. Also 'Ashes to the Stars' from Tarot. He is lead singer/bass & his brother is the guitarist. 'Truth shall set you free' is my favourite from his solo album.
Tarot - Tides (Live - undead indeed). Marco's first band (formed 1982). Marco was lead singer/basisist. Legendary band and pioneers of heavy rock in Finland!
Hi my friend nightwish are absolutely amazing and so many great songs a young gentleman taking UA-cam by storm is ren -hi ren this video has had 3 million views in 2 weeks and it is pure genius worth a look and has a great message at the end many thanks love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
However often I hear this, and it must be over a hundred times now, it never fails to give me shivers. Most people who react to this say it's better than the original. It's a tribute not a cover and is (or was) linked on Pink Floyd's own website with praise from the band. This is the ultimate Marco, but check him out with Northern Kings and his solo work on the album Pyre of the Black Heart. Marcogasm is a well-known and documented fact.
I like how they really pay homage to Pink Floyd by having their mimicking the globe behind them because I got the joy of seeing Pink Floyd in 1994 still the best concert I’ve ever seen because I’ve yet to see Nightwish
I love love love this song , wish they did this live ......it would have been the perfect opening song for the HN tour ......they use the beginning to open the shows but they jump into " Noise " instead.
@jynger, I’m a lifelong Pink Floyd fan since the beginning, but I can honestly say the Nightwish version of High Hopes is by far my favorite, so you’re not alone on that one😉🤟🤟✌️✌️🇨🇦
This is simply a great piece of Nightwish history. It's rare to see a cover played that does such a great job of honoring the original song. Marko's voice is perfection here. I'm glad you were familiar with the Pink Floyd original. While others may favor the original, I'm with you on this one. . . Nightwish's version is stronger. Thanks again, Jynger! 10k. . . 10k. . . 10k. . .
Because.. yeah ... ;D It showed that you thoroughly enjoyed this one, the Markogasm was clearly there, but I could spot some more there, both towards Tuomas and Emppu, perhaps also Jukka. And I agree, the boys need some love and affection to. So joyful to see you really enjoy this, thanks for sharing.
That was a magnificent tribute to an eternal song, both in music and meaning. They couldn't choose a better song to anticipate the parting away with Tarja
This is exactly the thing I'm always thinking when I watch this performance. This song was part of the final show that Tarja performed with Nightwish and it was immediately after this show the band gave her the letter but asked her to read it next day. Every member of the band shown in this video knows that they are going to fire their lead singer after this show. And I think it shows in their facial expressions every now and then.
You absolutely HAVE TO check out "Tarot - Wings Of Darkness" Marco's first band I think, the song was recorded in 1987, the year I was born.. and HOLY HELL is it weird yet amazing to see how Marco looked like as a young kid almost :D Great reaction as well, definitely Marcogasmic \m/ Forgot to mention that there is a recorded version of their song Wings Of Darkness as well, from 2007 or so? Double reaction, why not? :P
3:12 Somehow I think you appreciate Marko’s singing talent! There were too many people who were blinded by Floor’s awesomeness to really appreciate him which is a great shame. Great reaction, great song!
@@robertbrown8576 No, he has had a few interviews why he left. Seems to me it was time for him to spend more time with his family and newborn child. I feel he just didn't want to go on the Human Nature tour and be gone for a whole year. He didn't want all that hassle and traveling anymore, and I'm sure he has $millions$ stashed away. He also had some anxiety and depression problems. He is relaxed now and lives by his own agenda. I just wish he would of participated in the Virtual World concert in 2021 and then left.
Don’t stone my either, and I love Floor, but I’m not sure of the term ‘Floorgasm’ any more. I think the music itself provides the rush we all feel at times, regardless of who the singer is. Certain songs sung by Tarja and Anette have sent shivers down my spine, just as Marco does here. But I don’t think I’m saying anything true Nightwish fans don’t know. It’s the music, played by this incredible band, in all of its configurations.
Yes, Marcogasm should be a thing! The chills after that last belt never fails to appear. And I just got my "fix" of Amada-react-to Nightwish aswell. Thank you! Much Love to you and Ukraine 🌻🌻🌻💙💛💙
Yes agree Marko with Nightwish was colossal but life has got to go on. I had not heard of Nightwish or Floor until around 12 months ago and am grateful that I can now immerse myself in the wonderful Tarja and Annette eras and now the incomparable Floor as well as look forward to new material. 👍😊
I also thin it was better than the original and I grew up with Pink Floyd so know the song very well. Yes a Markogasm is a thing as you now know. He is such a good performer and will be missed in Nightwish for sure. He has done a lot anyway so theres quite a bit of stuff to hear from him. You looked like you were getting a bit warm listening to the song :) Thanks for the reaction
Hi there,it was the first song on my playlist when i went hiking. Such a great song…Did you hear Phantom of the opera, new version in Amsterdam? I am still speachless😂🙃🙃
Thanks Jynger❤ You're not the first, certainly not the last, to appreciate Marco's passionate interpretation of an amazing Floyd tune. And certainly won't be the last to rate NIGHTWISH'S tribute ahead of the original. Marco just left it all on the stage. I never doubted for a second how you would react. This band has so many surprises... that shouldn't surprise us. But what Marco did was just.... keep searching for the right superlative...SOARING vocally. Took your heart right out of your chest and carried it to the rafters on that wave of emotion. I saw you holding your breath and when he launched into that final chorus... the tension is palpable. What the band was going through that night, was stuff of legend. They were firing Tarja that very night. And very publicly. They had an Open Letter written and published to Tarja AND their fans to be delivered after the show. This specific show is seminal in the arc of Nightwish. AND everyone, except Tarja, knew it would be. Like I said, emotions were raw.
Its way better than the original. Couldnt agree more. This is an epic masterpiece tribute to Pink Floyd. Marco is awesome but Jukka on the drums is absolutely on fire in this one. Favourite drummer of all time for me. The rest of the band... Well they speak for themselves. Perfection all the way around.
Yeess, you did it, amazing, they are amazing, isn't it? It was a long wait, but it was worth it, thanks for your marvelous reaction. The Voice Of My Father is a beatiful song from Marko, Love you take care 👏👏🥰.
Hard to believe it was 17+ years ago. David Gilmore praised this cover years ago... I dont remember his comment but it a Wow! Marco is sorely missed as a great singer and bass player.
Love it! Thank you! Glad you made it to this one! More than a cover - a tribute! Even the lighting! Both Emppu and Tuomas singing along! I turned a life long Pink Floyd fan (since Syd Barrett daze - pun intended!) into a Nightwish fan with this song - played the audio to him and he demanded that I play it again - three times! Then he had to get the video - "End of An Era".
By the way, if you want to see more of those men of Nightwish goofing around, you should check ”Last of the wilds” from Wacken 2013 and then ”Elvenjig & Elvenpath” from Buenos Aires 2016. 👍🇫🇮👍
My first time hearing Nightwish’s version also. It was pretty awesome ! As I knew it would be . Your reaction was great ! Marco is great I think that’s my favorite that I’ve heard from him 👍
Sometimes I wonder if David Gilmore had heard this version and his opinion on Empu's second solo... I personally have goosebumps every time I hear it 🎶💙
I have read in many reactions to this song that David Gilmore loved it and put it on his twitter feed. I haven't been able to find reference to much using a Google search though
@@markclements7767 Wow that's wonderful! I bet it's a great pleasure for a great composer as he is, to feel that his work is appreciated and passed on to next generations. Thank you Mark for this information! Greetings from Greece 🍻
That was just amazing. I have heard this before form them but it still takes me back to the Pink Floyd days . Marco just out his spin on it! He is awesome in his own right
As always a lovely reaction! I've seen this literally a thousand times and I never tire of it (like the Nightwish songs too) - the question I always ask myself is 'why' - it's difficult to put your finger on - but I think with this particular song you could see and feel the passion they collectively have for this song - 3/4's of the way through it, I get such a massive chill running down my spine - I looked at your face at this moment and you started to smile as if to say 'what can you do, this is almost perfection!" - only a guess at your thoughts of course but I don't think I'm far wrong am I? This 'End of an Era' show was on fire - 'The Phantom of the Opera' , 'Wishmaster' and this song were Tarja's final show - so maybe they wanted to make it one to remember! Sorry, I do go on a bit 😆 As always take good care of yourself friend 😃
Tarja's last, the last of the tour, a break is coming, the length of which no one would know, or maybe the end and Home Audience yeah, they definitely wanted to make it memorable

He is such a good performer and will be missed in Nightwish for sure. He has done a lot anyway so theres quite a bit of stuff to hear from him. You looked like you were getting a bit warm listening to the song :) Thanks for the reaction
It was a good follow-up to our Metal Covers Sunday stream and yes - each Nightwish song needs its own day to devote to it.
Absolutely fantastic tribute to Pink Floyd. My eyes got a bit misty.
Hi there,it was the first song on my playlist when i went hiking.
Such a great song…Did you hear Phantom of the opera, new version in Amsterdam?
I am still speachless😂🙃🙃
I completely agree with you, it’s better! Deeper darker stronger.....Marko’s lyrics here are amazing! Missed you the last couple of weeks! Xx
Thanks Jynger❤
You're not the first, certainly not the last, to appreciate Marco's passionate interpretation of an amazing Floyd tune.
We can give thanks to Mr Cabuli in this case.. His actions were awful..
I think I notice Emppu causing some tingling as well!
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘great isn't that Marco Jynger!? ♥️
Beautiful tribute song to Pink Floyd by Tuomas❤
Yeess, you did it, amazing, they are amazing, isn't it? It was a long wait, but it was worth it, thanks for your marvelous reaction.
The Voice Of My Father is a beatiful song from Marko, Love you take care 👏👏🥰.
Yes, the boys of Nightwish are amazing and there's one in particular for whom your heart melts!
Hard to believe it was 17+ years ago. David Gilmore praised this cover years ago... I dont remember his comment but it a Wow! Marco is sorely missed as a great singer and bass player.
Taking a band this good - with God tier vocals already in the band - and plonking Floor on top is low-key obscene.
Thanks ❤
The Emppu of Old Testament was no joke 🥲
I agree with your musical assessment. I am an avid Pink Floyd guy (and musician) but this rendition beats the original.
Epic performance.
Agreed!
Love it!
@@markclements7767 It's an urban myth. Can't fina anything about Gilmour or the twitter story.
@@eddiewinehosen6665 Yes, I couldn't find the Twitter direct reference but it is probably because it is going back a while now
That was just amazing.
Tarja's last, the last of the tour, a break is coming, the length of which no one would know, or maybe the end
and Home Audience
yeah, they definitely wanted to make it memorable
say it....Say It....SAY IT!!.....Hell yeah that version is better.
Just love your reactions straight to the point keep it up🇬🇧
Emppu the guitar wizard rules 🤘
I concur! Da-yum!
You know it's a great song and the way thay preforme it was just mind blowing.

Marko and his brother, in 2011, with their band, Tarot. This is their original big song from 1986. There’s an original video as well, it’s very ‘80s glam metal in appearance though 😂😂
You want more Marco. Check the islander at Tampere if you didn't yet . There is some of his other songs from his other band too. I know you like Emppu lol would like you to see 1999 sacrament of wilderness. They are so young. Emppu with short hair 😜
You got to check out Marko in his band Tarot, and anything off of the "pyre of a black heart" album, pacifically the song called "Stones" and "Voice Of My Father"
You absilutely need to check an React Marco's band - Tarot - Song - Tides - from Undead indeed - Live gig 🤩
Yes, yes YES 😍😍😍
when the Queen rests, the Kings go to battle) the golden cast of Nightwish members. When there were Marko and Yukka... Every time I watch this video, I am convinced of the coolness of each of the guys!) I congratulate you that you did react to this composition! I was waiting for it)
Btw, they have the other wonderful cover of popular song (not pink floyd) - Walking in the air. I HIGHLY HOPELY on reaction and recommend!)))
