Thanks for the drive. I am in California and have the 2022 230i. It's just right power and tech wise so I can understand your wanting more power in yours. BTW, I am 75 year old female car enthusiast.
7:30 I think this is why people would opt for this car over faster alternatives. In a country where ANPR, dash cams, bus lane cameras, speed cameras, unmarked police cars, community speed activists, cycle lanes (Highway Code in favour of cyclist and pedestrians) etc, where these all operate with overwhelming presence in our day to day driving lives, having less power isn’t necessarily a bad place to be. Having owned a M140i which had in all honesty too much power, the prospect of good handling, comfort, looks, and “enough power” is an extremely attractive all rounder. That paired with cost of living, being able to achieve better fuel economy is nothing to be sniffed at when your likely paying £400+ per month on finance before even driving the damn thing. Put bluntly, where on earth can we use our cars to their full potential on UK roads without going to a race track? I’ve owned an e92 M3 and it makes a glorious sound and performance is blistering, but blink and your breaking the speed limit constantly, and when you do open it up you put other road users at risk. I don’t like that prospect anymore, the roads aren’t made for that kind of performance and personally I’ve dialled back my expectations when it comes to my ideal car criteria, it’s not worth the hassle having something too powerful because the police won’t leave you alone, most people hate loud and fast cars, and you can’t drive it anywhere. Sad reality but it’s the truth.
👏👏👏 Sad but true!
I own this car and you’re review is 100% exactly right for me.
I have the M240ix and it's awesome, no need for launch control because a hard launch in Sport+ takes your breath away. I don't get on it that often, but it's great to have it when you want it.
Great video man!! Waiting my M240i in the next months..too excited about it:)
Again great coverage Stef!
Thanks man
Simply a beautiful car. Going to sit down a little later with a glass of wine to enjoy this upload, Stef👌👌
Cheers bud!! 🙌🙌🙌
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. Definitely one of the best Coupe Cars you can buy
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video 👍🏼 I agree with you. This is a fun car. I drive a 220i for 1 Year now, and i love it!
Yes, a bit more power would be nice.
This summer i did a 3500km tour, and the 220i did a great job. On the straight as well as on the mountain roads.
For me it’s a daily driver, and fuel consumption is great.
If you have moisture in the headlights, go to your dealer. You will probebly get a new headlight under warrenty.
Dude no matter where you look up this car, it doesnt do it any justice. Seeing this car IRL is such a huge difference, this car is a beast and Im finally getting one!!!! Gotta wait 5 months before it gets delivered though but man Im so happy
Congrats man🎉. I am actually seeing this 5 months after you left the comment so I'm gonna assume you are already enjoying this beast:)
@@NadPilotPMG Hey man! I picked it up today at the dealership. It arrived last week but they needed another week to deep clean the car. Just got home from a very long drive and all I can say is that I've been driving with a smile this entire time. This car is so beautiful and so amazing to drive, I love it!
@@NadPilotPMG Sorry to bother you, I wont bother you any longer after this question I have. But when I put the car in reverse the side mirror automatically tilts which is great but it tilts a little too much downwards for me. Perhaps you would know if you could change this? I tried but whenever I try moving my mirrors it immediately goes into drive mode and not the reverse mode, idk what to do haha.
@@tunod-Hmm, I don't know. For me it's still a dream car, not an owner just yet😅
@@tunod-If the toggle for adjusting the mirror is to the right the mirror will automatically go down when reversing, try moving it to the left and that should stop it
the head light situation you have we don't have that with USA cars 230 we have here its amazing with JB+ you really feel it with piggyback and downpipe
This is the old version. The new one has all the newer IT stuff. But the old one is as sexy.... And has BUTTONs.
I drive a 20i Z4 with the n20 engine and echo your thoughts. Whilst you can have a lot of fun using all the power without exceeding limits, the feeling of wanting more power for overtakes is always there. My worry of remapping the car to 260hp is that you end up not being able to use the power safely leading to a less fun car overall. All else being equal does more bhp equal fun?
Hi Stef, Please will you give your view on how the petrol should be compared to the 220d? My garage advises that it's now better to choose petrol over diesel, because the former is simpler, in terns of engine maintenance and replacement parts. I've owned 5 diesel engined BMWs, in which I've achieved 50+mpg though and don't know how I'd feel switching across and losing 8 miles per gallon. Also, government nudging is to get rid of diesel before petrol. Thank you for your highly useful insights on this car.
It took me some
time to absorb the new look 2 series - but I reckon this is gonna go down as a classic .. the G42 looks more 'macho' and aggro compared to its predecessor
I wonder if the 220i in sport mode is how my 230i feels when it is in eco mode. Lol the 230i I think is the sweet spot in the 2 coupe lineup, you still get the lighter drivetrain while having enough power to break loose but it isn’t too overpowering like the RWD m240i that tends to continually want to break loose.
Stage 1 remap and its faster than your 230i😊
The front lamps fogging up is dissappointing, is there an after market kit to improve the seals?
its B48 - simple tune with downpipe and its 260-280bhp perfect daily
Yeah, just needs a bit more poke and it’s a great daily for sure
Thanks
Thank you that’s so kind 🙌
So what you’re saying is, if you want to keep your car stock, get the 230i? Same engine and about 245bhp. It does look like the sweet spot in the range. Any chance of you getting to review one of those and compare?
Will try to get one but essentially yep that’s what I’m saying lol
I'm looking for a new car. Have been drawn to the 220i Coupe because I don't have a family so I don't need to put people in my car except me. Currently I have a BRZ but now that I'm older I'm finding I'm having trouble getting in and out of my BRZ even though I love it.
So my question is how is it getting in and out of? The BRZ you really sit low. The 220i looks like it's more of a standard format sedan/coupe. How are the doors also? My BRZ seems to have long doors and you need to open them wide to get out of reasonably comfortably. I'm getting on and I have my father in car also sometimes and he has real trouble getting into and out of the BRZ.
If anyone that has a 220i who wants to answer my questions, It'd be really helpful in my search for another car.
German quality ended after 2000. As a bmw fan (three 3 series last 25 years) maybe 230i provides fun
If you can afford it m240i is the right car. In 90s you had fun with 320i e36, now due to the weight you must have 250 or more bhp to have fun.
"MUST HAVE"?...LUDICROUS SUBJECTIVE IRRELEVANT POINT...CONSIDER YOURSELF A F00L.
Maybe get your lights checked cause mine don’t get misted.
In my opinion the 220i is a awesome car after owning it for more than a year, I think the sweet spot is a 230i. 220i is a everyday car doesn’t lack power but don’t buy it if you are used to anything fast. Otherwise it’s a playful rwd car !
In short words just buy the M240.
I am considering buying this model, which should be my first BMW. Considering how small this car is, will it be a good choice as an every day and only car in my garage?
@@VitalyRomaniv Im going to answer your question but I need to ask what your previous car was ?
@@Jaryd003 Citroen C4 2013 😅 I’ve been driving this car for four years, and I rarely used back seats. So maybe it shouldn’t be so much of a trouble. The main concern for me is low ground clearance
@@VitalyRomaniv Ok now I can answer you question accurately, so in your case it’s a brilliant daily 👍🏻👍🏻, You won’t have an issue with ground clearance.
140kw 6.9 0 to 60 decent in all aspects
@@Jaryd003 thanks for the answer! Maybe one day I will respond to this comment with my impressions of the car.
👍
i'd prefer a manual transmission over a remap any day of the week. fast doesn't necessarily translate to more fun in my book.
I think that only M240i and M2 are very impressive.
in which country this video was made with the car steering on the right
Lol uk
How does a 220i have an M badge?
Interior
Thundernight...
My one is white
DRIVING ONE HANDED AT SPEED ON LESS THAN STRAIGHT ROADS...THUMBS UP FOR SHOWING A (NOT VERY) RESPONSIBLE HABIT TO IMPRESSIONABLE PEOPLE.
Do I wish you would stop spinning around with the camera......Yes.
😹
😹
😂
the 220 is a little too tame for a bmw. won't be able to drive like an a hole on highway.
BMW have become hopelessly expensive.
Mexican build quality
British build quality is 10x worse.
EXACTLY WHAT EXPERIENCES ON A PERSONAL LEVEL DO YOU HAVE OF "MEXICAN BUILD QUALITY" ON THE AUTOMOTIVE LEVEL, THAT YOU WILL SHARE WITH US TO GIVE EVEN JUST A TAD OF SUBSTANCE TO YOUR IGNORANCE?.
I have one for 1,5 years and everything is perfect and really much better like my Jaguar 🤔.
Wow! Even assuming BMW fixed the numb, chalky, electric steering over the years, this car manages to be both ugly and boring. Has BMW lost their mind?? lol And this isn't even talking about the GIANT Beaver teeth on other models. And we all thought the Chris Bangle Era was bad!! LOL
You have never seen it in the flesh, in white or grey. It is beautiful and cheap, if you go for the base motor. In the UK you only need that.. can't go fast there anyway.
