Warhammer Games You've NEVER Played.. I Promise. The Best (AND WORST) Warhammer Games. Games Workshop have produced (or licensed) an incredible amount of video games. 1983 was their first, all the way up to now, 2023. FPS, RTS, RPG, MMORPG and everything in between. Dawn of War, Warhammer Total War and now Darktide have catapulted Games Warhammer 40k into the wider gaming community.

Man, that was great. I had no idea there were so many games set in the 40K universe. Thanks a million for putting that together. It's the perfect vid for someone like me who's been looking for some (and a variety) of 40K games.
Q- Do you have a favourite:-
- Strategy (turn based)
- Space Hulk
- First person (pretty sure I know)
Thanks again. Appreciate the effort.

I hope the CRPG Rogue Trader is as good as it promises once the 1.0 launces in December!
Final Liberation is one of my top games of all time. Was it pretty? No. Was it balanced? No. Was it stable? No. Were its goofy fmv cut scenes and Already Five Years Out Of Date At The Time unit models oozing with adorable nostalgic charm? Absolutely.
I used to play it so much that i'd go to sleep with the music in my head, I can still hear it now
Great game!
(slaps face) COMMISSAR Holt!
Heya! Vortex missile outbound! Lol
I was sad that the potential expansions never came out to include the eldar and chaos
Ah, the glorious 90s. I loved those briefings from the first Space Hulk game - "The Emperor has dictated your squad's weaponry!" And of course Commissar Holt - "Choose your next words with exceptional care!"
The 90s were full of amazing games. So many in a row too. 🤤
I don't blame you for not including chaos bowl as that was the knock off that cyanide games made which got them the blood bowl contract. But you missed a few that others have mentioned like Chainsaw warrior, Eternal Crusade and Regicide the Eisenhorn game along with the Warhammer quest trio of games. They are definitely set in the Warhammer universe. Otherwise great list!
I still think the '93 version of Space Hulk is the most interesting adaptation of the game. Makes far better use of the different medium than many of the later "just port the tabeltop game" approach.
That was the first GW game I played, and I have to say, it was brilliant.
Space Hulk was very cool, something that wouldnt make sense gameplay wise if it was made today. However how it plays just adds to the dread and it adds to the experience
Great video! Shadow of the Horned Rat was my first venture into GW computer games, loved it! I remember picking up Chaos Gate when it came out, but it kept it crashing on my PC 🙄😕
You started about the same time as I did! Nothing like Corporal Fletcher getting that last round in before they got charged. Haha.
Such a fun game despite those ugly sprites. It's a hard one to go back and play now though. Tried once for nostalgia as it was the first strategy game I genuinely beat TF out of. Blah.
Gladius doing something right, it's still getting updates and content. The sisters of battle - the sixth faction DLC - having been released recently.
Gladius is very good if you like civilisation style games
It's a fun game, it just sucks seeing so much behind pay walls.
@@stillcantbesilencedevennow To buy it now, yeah, base game is a bit overpriced for how old it is. For folks who bought it way back then it's only been around an extra £10-15 a year above the initial purchase.
Played most of them, I have to say the most impression on me left the first chaos gate. Still remember the assault space marines with their chain swords that where also the first unit I got as plastic.
Yeah, that was such a good game. Chaos Gate and Final Liberation were my go-to games!
That main music is still in my music rotation. Yeah it's just chanting, but it's got BAWLZ.
Great video! I got into 40k a little bit as a kid with 2nd edition but mostly just kept up with it via video games like Squad Command on PSP and Dawn of War. I think I was a backer for the Space Hulk kickstarter or something too. When I played Battlesector last year on Xbox gamepass I was like "wtf is a Primaris?", googled it, watched some youtube videos... and now neck-deep back in the hobby. Oops! Currently working through Daemon Hunters (perfect xcom clone!) and also replaying Dawn of War lol.
Haha, "surprise, here is a new marine". Yes to Dawn of War! I must play more Daemon Hunters, I should really like it!
That song on Space Crusade was Get Out Of My Way by D'Rok. This was sold through stores as a 12", along with the album. We didn't sell many!
Maybe an idea for another video? The music released by GW. Sabbat flexi-disc in WD, troll tapes, then the whole Warhammer Records thing.
I had that album - it 'disappeared' in a move 😔
Total war Warhammer was/is like a dream come true. Played total war since Rome, and loving Warhammer, this is like a blessing from heaven
It was basically coming full circle for WFB too considering how GW also tried grand strategy esque specialist games like Mighty Empires and 8th Edition Blood in the Badlands campaign with the overworld campaign and tiles, as well considering how GW once tried tackling historical wargaming with Warhammer Historical as well, Warhammer Ancient Battles and Warmaster Ancients.
Mark of Chaos and Battle March were similar to Total War too.
loved the soundtrack for final liberation and i had so much fun in its custom matches with giant armies, the sounds the leviathan made when it fired its cannon was epic
It was so good! I want to go and replay it, but I don't want to ruin the nostalgia.
I actually had space hulk, dark omen and shadow of the horned rat on the PS1... These and the board games battle masters, space crusade and hero quest really cemented my love of Warhammer... Shadow of the horned rat particularly... As I got a little bit older I got final liberation and chaos gate as well which are absolute gems.... The one game worth a look that you missed is Regicide.... Excellent video all round
Apologies I forgot to add. One game that deserves a mention is Chapter Master, though not licensed (so you haven't missed it) it is one excellent game for a specific type of gamer. Check out Mandalorgamings review if you haven't heard of it.
"Warhammer Games You've NEVER played"....bold statement, since I played all of them. Well except for that Orc thing with the Shootas.
Great video - another evergreen! Loved the nostalgia. I feel like the best thing about all these games is the cinematics. Stuff like the Mark of Chaos one was so epic at the time
There was a 3-team (6v6v6) PVP game called Wrath of Heroes that never got out of open beta and it makes me really sad everytime I think about it. It was basically my goto game in the brief one-year period it was available.
Warhammer - Dark Oman was the best thing I had seen at the time. I still remember the booklet that came with the game, and in special addition with first the help of the first "3D graphics cards" Dark Omen looked AMAZING.
It was really good and insanely challenging (Shadow of the Horned Rat was even worse)
Great Video!! Only 1 problem... It makes me feel old lol i played some of first games in video
I still have a sealed collectors edition of Warhammer Online on the shelf. Final Liberation and Chaos Gate are still 2 of the best WH games ever made.
I have to agree. Excellent games.
I loved Warhammer Online. Wish it was still a proper thing (though I know some people are running their own servers), it drew me in like no other RPG did before or since. Running around Old World locations I knew from the lore was amazing.
Dark Omen and Chaos Gate were my childhood
Great video! Just wanted to make a mention of 'Warhammer 40k Regicide' which I don't think made your list. It's mostly chess but with some interesting new tweaks and changes to the game
I think you missed one: Warhammer 40k Regicide. A strange one that was chess but where the pieces also could attack with grenades and bolters. Strangely fun for a bit!
Was about to comment this!!
Was about to comment this!!
You missed the first game to be played from an ork's perspective: Dakka Squadron! It's not good, but it's existant!
Disagree. It's quite good (if repetitive)
@@mo_dakka I was super excited for it, followed development and bought it day one. I had fun with it, I won't lie, but man it was mediocre at best. I'm especially bitter about the ending. All this build up, then a complete anticlimax. The game felt very unfinished, and after beating it once, and playing a new campaign as a different clan, I was only able to make it half way. I was talking to the developers through twitter DMs, and they made several promises there that never got fulfilled, and they suddenly stopped responding. It had potential, but most of that was left on the table.
@@comradebusman3 I love the flight combat and the orky vibes, so it’s still a fav but you’re right.
My understanding is that they got bought out and that’s why they just suddenly stopped all development.
@@mo_dakka Probably, the game is lacking some serious polish. The orky vibes are great, but the flight is meh. but the ending sucked hard. It was so anticlimactic. All build up with no payoff. "This is my waaagh now, let's join up with ghazgkull! Yeah!" "I alerted the next planet, they'll be prepared" "You wot? WAAAAAGH!" and then a harsh cut straight back to the mission select screen, no new planet, nothing. I thought there'd be at least one more planet, a super hard one fighting the mechanicus alongside the pilots in ghazgkull's waaagh, but nothing. I even thought this was a bug and asked them, but nope, that was the intended ending. I told them my concerns, and they said that they would like to add more content, but that never happened
Nice to see some love for Rites of War, my introduction to the hobby. Fell in love with Striking Scorpions, Swooping Hawks and Fire Dragons. The soundtrack is mega. The fortune sound effect can GFI though.
That Kill team game released just before Space Marine was good fun, and a note to make on it, is that it was a promotional 'prologue' to the Space Marine itself. From what I remember, the actions within that game result in the Ork ship/Rok in the main game crashing into the planet.
I have to point out that BfG:Armada wasn't the first time we got a video game of Battlefleet Gothic. Battlefleet Gothic: Leviathan was released on iOS and Android a mere 4 months beforehand (and seemed to disappear from the app stores shortly after BfG:A was released). Turn based, it was a pretty straight port of the physical rules, albeit with most of the factions locked out and promised to be coming in upcoming updates... which didn't happed, presumaby because BfG:A. Still decent if you want to run Imperial Navy on your phone/tablet.
Also- no mention of the opening cutscene for Rites of War? Genuinely still holds up as a waking of the Avatar of Khaine, and gives me the chills when watching it.
I did say I was not including Phone style games in the list, and tt was for that very reason. Most of them get a shortlived license and then disapppear (and are generally pretty terrible), so I didn't want to add more games into the video when they're all pretty much unavailable.
You've missed a fair few to my knowledge (unless they were featured exceptionally briefly and I missed them): Rites of War, Blood Bowl Chaos Edition, Freeblade, Warhammer Quest 2, Deathwatch, Man O' War Corsair, Space Hulk Ascension, Eisenhorn, Talisman: Digital Edition, Chainsaw Warrior, Dark Future, Talisman: The Horus Heresy, and Dungeon Bowl
Otherwise, a good video! :-)
I still play mordheim these days. I like playing with just a leader and a bunch of heroes with no henchmen sometimes. Also currently roleplaying Konrad von Carstein ( light armour, two swords, frenzy etc) with a couple of necromancers and a zombie horde. It's my go to game when i'm bored with everything else.
What about Eternal Crusade, and Regicide (which sadly looks to be gone from steam) 40k chess, what's not to love?
Regicide was a fun take on chess.
Quite liked that one.
dam, i have almost every release from the 90's and 00's lol. shadow of the horned rat 2 and dawn of war being faves ! i knew there had been a lot of these released , but had no idea just HOW many ! excelent work in chronicling this
Had to replay the 19:40 "redacted" soundbit a couple times to make sure I wasn't getting a notifaction on my computer
Haha. Sorry for that.
The year,:1992, I got a demo of Space Crusade on the cover tape of Your Sinclair Magazine... that's was it. I was hooked! The board game was purchased with pocket money, then the Eldar attack expansion pack, then into 40k the following year... that demo has cost me sooo much money over the years 😂
I think i still have my space hulk for the amiga 500, that was class, I remember we used to take turns doing missions on shadow of the horned rat at games club. Of course dawn of war was just gaming gold. thanks for reminding me about warhammer online and the fan run server.
Oh man, the nostalgia! Chaos Gate, still rocks that sound track when I play 40k matches!
The bolter sound from Fire Warrior sounds the most legit of all bolter sounds. Proper booms. Also the version of Final Liberation back in the day, you could control the Emperor Titan but not in today's released version
My favorites: Chaos Gate, Final Liberation, Rites of War, Dawn of War, Mordhiem, and Space Marine. I played everything on the list though.
Pretty much the same list as me! Shadow of the Horned Rat and old Space Hulk too. All classics!
I'm playing through the first space marine game on hard mode for a challenge. I'm loving the gameplay & level design. I would love to paint some space marines, cadian & orks like in the game.
The one sad thing about space hulk tactic is how quickly it’s public servers went offline. I thought it was very fun and didn’t get the chance to play with other people before it they took it down
The first space hulk was just ... the best space hulk game ever.
While I completed the game, it was plain impossible to do it with a single squad of terminator and, therefore, impossible to see more powerful loadout.
It genuinely was.
I used to play Space Hulk on the Sega Saturn, and I liked the early missions where you were a single Terminator that had to follow orders. Once you were promoted at gained control of a squad, it was too much cognitive load for me!
I loved Dark Omen, would play it again in a heartbeat if I could.
Would love to know the sales figures for these games
I did play Space Hulk, once. The band that did the music was D -Rok the whole album was great.
Choas on the spectrum was a fantastic game.
I am sure i still have a copy of Dark Omen in the attic. Used to love that game.
Played it so much back in the day! :)
Ripcord Games planed to release Gorkamorka for PC, I even play demo version, but project was cancelled.
Few of this games i stilo git on my HD (IE Finał Liberation, Chaos Gate, Dalej Omen, Mordheim, BB (old, regular and legendarny) DOW, DOW2) 😁
Yes, i'm a maniac
You missed Dakka Squadron! it came out after Aeronautica Imperialis.
Yes. Zoggin' humies.
I own alot of those games. With Dark Omen I was able to get a free Necromant on my local GW-Store. :) With Firewarrior you also got a free figurine. That was inside the Box of the PC-Version. People who did buy the PS2 version didn't get the free miniature of the hero of the game.
Man, I remember that playing that first space hulk game as a kid. It was the best thing ever.
All of those games, and I STILL think that Chaos for the Spectrum is the best game they put their name to :]
You missed a few! Chainsaw Warrior, Eternal Crusade, Regicide, and Space Wolf are four that I know of off the top of my head. [Edit: I just saw your comment about dead games, so nevermind! Haha!]
Unrelated, but Darktide is one of the worst Warhammer games I've ever played (in its current state).
Space wolf was pretty good. It didn't get a full go because it was a semi mobile game (I played it on my ipad, I think), but it did get an honourable mention. It's a pretty heavy list! So many games.
Oddly, I've enjoyed darktide (but have now gotten bored of it).
I played the 93 Space Hulk game for probably 100+ hours...loved that game.
I remember Rites of War. Was quite fun.
I got chaosbane for free, and I still want my money back.
Haha, that's fair!
I had so much fun with dawn of war 3 and battlesector but got dissapointed both games had not all Races in the game, if one of those games would have ALL Races in the game I would play it 24/7
Which games would you recommend to somebody completely new to Warhammer?
Warhamme total war is brilliant, that'd probably be the number one.
Space Hulk (the newer ones) could be fun.
Dawn of War is one of the most impactful games warhammer has ever had, but it's probably a bit dated without the nostalgia. It's still a solid RTS game, though. :)
I was looking for an eternity for final libération I played the demo back when I was a kid then I forget the name of the game but never the gameplay thanks bro
You're welcome!
Another one that was forgotten was Legacy of Dorn: Herald of Oblivion
That has been removed from Steam, and I feel like the 80+ games were enough without all dead games! 😀
Vermintide II: "and by the end of '29 it had sold over 2 million copies". Can I get this weekend's lottery numbers from you whilst you're here please? :P
great list and there are soo many coming too. I think you may have missed a few however. considering how many there are that is easy to do. I dont remember seeing Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron - Flyboyz Edition, Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf, and there was one called chainsaw warrior that I dont even think you can get anymore. Too many games. I am pretty sure there were some mobile games I didnt play or care about too.
Thanks! I did mention Space Wolf at the start and decided against going into the mobile games (as the list was already 80+ haha), as well as unavailable games.
Some awesome games in there though, and I learned some cool facts along the way. 😀
Always wanted shadow of the horned rat had dark omen on ps1 though. Never knew about the dos blood bowl game
Wow not even heard of some of the newer ones
Missing Eternal Crusade and Nexus wars on pc from on the list. But nice trip down memory lane. Final Liberation and chaos gate are classics. But in my mind shadow of the horned rat and dark omen looked a lot better haha
Awesome vid! But I think you missed Combat Cards for mobile :)
I didnt do mobile games :)
@@BroadswordWargaming Ah, got it, sorry :)
Bloodbowl is one game I think is way better as a video game. The computer does all the tedious dice rolling that's speeds up game play so much.
I've played it so much!
@@BroadswordWargaming but the re-roll mechanism was buggy AF... if you activated Re-Roll without waiting a bit, you always got the same results... thats with the first game, BB2 was ok
Edit: i am talking about the 2009 game
Mark of Chaos is the best damn warhammer game ever, massively under-rated!
Hang on what about the 40k game where you play as inquisitor eisenhorn game? did I just imagine that one? I think it was an adaptation of the book xenos
Dawn of War Soulstorm needs a remaster and every day GW does not order Relic to do it at Lascannonpoint is a travesty to mankind.
I absolutely adored Dawn of War as a kid, and now have a crippling plastic addiction that's probably secured the college funds for half of the Gamesworkshop employee's kids. Pairing with Relic was a great move on their part
"It's not a bad game, it's just not a great game" basically sums up the entire Warhammer games library. DoW and Total War are the exceptions.
Warhammer online was the highlight of my mmorpg years. It had so much potential but was Badly managed. Such a shame. More fun than wow...... Oh the memories
You forgot warhammer wrath of heroes, i miss it so much
amazing list! however I didn't see you mention Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade. Not a great game but was more modern.
Dawn of War was a game that made people thinking "huh, so RTS games don't have to be ugly?"
Mordheim is the best! It's a catastrophe no one plays it online anymore(((
Maybe the best game ever made.
4:03 Bloody hell that lip-sync
He's talking so fast that we can only hear 10% of it. Haha.
The title of this video should be "Warhammer Games for Old People" lol, I'm feeling attacked
Haha, I'm there with you. "Remember this shit old game?".. "yes".
@@BroadswordWargaming I often still play them over newer games, I have a windows 7 machine under my desk just in case I get an itch hahaha.
Edit: man I wrote that badly, had to fix it when I reread it just now lol
warhammer online was so much fun I wish it reach its potential
Neither Armageddon nor Gladius have even the slightest resemblance to Final Liberation other than the fact that they’re all in the 40k universe. Final Liberation is a port of Epic to the computer, whereas Armageddon is based off of the Panzer Corps game, and Gladius isn’t even tactical...
Dark Omen Was My favourite and Still Is!!
Tacticus is quite good (for a mobile WH40K game)
Final liberation, Chaos Gate, Rites of War were my favorites.
Kill Team looks like it was fun.
Didn't they do a MOBA at one point?
They did, it failed and was put out of it's misery about a year after it's release. 40K: Dark Nexus.
Good video, not presenting this info as a "you missed these" but here is a list of shall we say "others".
No Longer able to buy on Steam.
Adeptus Titanicus: Dominus Turn based with Titans
Chainsaw Warrior Base on the old single-player card games.
Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of the Night
Dungeonbowl - Knockout Edition Bloodbowl in a dungeon?
Eisenhorn: Xenos
Eternal Crusade
Legacy of Dorn: Herald of Oblivion Old-school text/visual game book.
Regicide Chess 40K style
Storm of Vengeance Lane fighting game like Plants vs Zombies.
Talisman: The Horus Heresy
Still available on Steam, better get'em before their licenses expire.
Dakka Squadron - Flyboyz Edition 1st person flying combat. Orky.
Dark Future: Blood Red States A "Car Wars" style game.
Horus Heresy: Legions F2P Collector Card Game.
Rogue Trooper 3rd Person Shooter.
Space Wolf Turn based, play cards as actions.
Base on old Games Workshop published board games. Also still on Steam.
Talisman: Digital Edition
The Warlock of Firetop Mountain
Warhammer Quest
Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times
I spent many (many) weekend afternoons sat playing D-Day with friends. (Back when you could buy a can of Pepsi and some snacks for 20p...)
Warhammer 40k Tacticus
Awesome Game and yes u can play as Abaddon
Horus Heresy
legions
Card game but has alot of lore and great Art
Missing Eternal Crusade was a bit strange
Will always have a soft spot for Final Liberation and Dark Omen.
Me too! So good back in the day
Amazing! I had no idea that there were so many.
I know, right?
"firewarrior was recieved well" don't know about that one chief.
It is really telling that Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade goes unmentioned. The game was so disappointing, even its own devs decided to cover up its existence.
Awesome, I was just looking for a list like this
Glad I could help
did you come across ps2/ps3 title Kill Team?
Great trip down memory. I played Space Wolf recently, is that considered a mobile game? I thought it may be on the list.
I hope the CRPG Rogue Trader is as good as it promises once the 1.0 launces in December!
Ooo, I didn't know it was launching now! Hopefully it's good. 😀
Well not now, but in the following days (December 7th)@@BroadswordWargaming
8:16 ONE OF THE BEST! I Still have it.
Cleanse! Purge! Kill! Classic....
Yeah, so good. That dominated the whole Warhammer industry.
oh my god those live action orks from final liberation are so bad they almost make me want to find a way to play for that alone
Oh man you forgot Dakka Squadron! It's just a fun, orky, arcade jet fighting game. I recommend.
What about GW's chess game? Or that god-awful lane defence game? Or the Space Wolf deck builder? Or their starter box 40k tie in game?
I did say no mobile games/app games. Lane defence zombie games fall into that bracket, as does space wolf game (although I did mention it). 75+ actual games were enough for me.
blood bowl, Warhammer Dark Omen and Final liberation were all fantastic games in their own right.
I totally agree, they're all awesome
Thank you , Broadsword .
Cheers Oli'
🐺
You're welcome! :)
@@BroadswordWargaming My pleasure .

A trip down memory lane.
Glossed over Hired gun and Shoots, blood and Teff. These Indie games are fantastic! SBT is amazing on co op, is ludicrously fun "plenty 'o' teff bashin in a few ooman eds" . Hired gun is a great FPS that comes away from the Space Marines and delves more into the normalish lives of the hive worlds (a little loose on the lore though). Darktide is nowhere near as good as Vermintide 2, but its ok for a bit( again a bit loose on the lore but hey its alright). Apart from my disagreements which are only my personal choices😉a great video that shows a lot reasearch into the older games for people who want to get into these treasures.
By the Emperor........Your scribbles verged on heretical scribe, but you remain true to the god of mankind!
