Oh, I was waiting for this Top Guerlain video form you guys! Guerlain is one of my favorite houses. I love wearing Vetiver, I admire Shalimar but I can't wear it (an animalic note becomes proeminent on my skin). I must admit, knowing your tastes, I was expecting to see Mouchoir de Monsieur as no. 1 but pleasantly surprised by Mitsouko. Mitsouko is a masterpiece, my favorite perfumes of all times. Polarizing, mysterios, every time I wear it surprises me. And I agree with Vol de Nuit. I sampled the vintage version and I loved it. I would add on the list Chamade, a moodier sister of Vol de Nuit.
Terrific video, gents! Just a thought: do you ever shop in old pharmacies? Some are treasure troves for old formulations of fragrances and/or discontinued scents. Antique shops can be equally good pick-up spots.
Very happy you ranked Mouchoir as #2. I thought you might have omitted it in deference to Jicky. However, when you came down to the final three, I could not imagine that you would. You did surprise me in placing Shalimar in the third spot. Great video!

I wish that I had laid my hands on a bottle of Apres l'Ondee just before it was discontinued, but now the prices in the States are obscene. So I content myself with L'Heure Bleu. I bought a bottle of Royal Extract on my last visit to Harrods. I feel like its a great visit to Guerlain history and a piece of London that I brought back home. Take care, stay safe. P.S. No dissing Hasu-no-Hama. I put it on this morning and it was great company. An absolutely amazing perfume.
I'm an ardent fan of Guerlain since the 60s. I think it's the best House, also. My top 5 are (in ascending order) Vetiver; Chant d'Aromes; Parure; Vol de Nuit, and...Jicky. Extrait (vintage), if possible. Remarklable fragrance alchemy, all!
Can't believe Vetiver's placing, I know it has stiff competition but not even the top ten. Would you recommend the EDT over the EDP for Mitsouko as well? I was doing well with my New Year's resolution not to buy anymore perfumes this year until this video, well done.

Very enjoyable list! I'd have stuck Chamade pour Homme in at number 6 or 7 - for me, a great, elegant masculine floral, close second to Derby in the Les Parisiens collection. I'm looking forward to wearing it shortly in spring. And great to see Coriolan mentioned - it's an underappreciated great.

Did you say that Guerlain Vetiver is being reformulated? I have the current formulation, but I hope note. This is one of the best values in fragrances today. My nose is very sensitive to vetiver, and I prefer the vetiver here, because it's presented in a bright fashion. It smells like the cool uncle you knew when you were young. When I apply Guerlain Vetiver, as I did yesterday, it always lifts my spirits! Jo, you quoted Luca Turin accurately about Eau de Guerlain. My 70's vintage bottle of Eau de Guerlain is one of the best buys I've ever made. I have to restrain myself from wearing it too much, because it takes me back to the 70's. The oakmoss in the base notes allow it to last. Dan, thank you for coaxing me to pick up the small amount of Apes l'Ondee that I could find last year. The prices now are through the roof. Yes. I'd like to find a vintage version of Apres l'Ondee that's been kept well. Jo, I agree. I have the Habit Rouge EDT in the same formulation as you and Dan have, and I like the EDT better. Dan, your Habit Rouge EDC (with box) is a wonderful buy! Yes, the top notes fade on vintage fragrances often, but as Jo said, an 80's version will be closer to the original. Jo, I think you've shown us that vintage flacon of Jicky before. I'm sure it takes you on a wonderful journey. I wholeheartedly agree about Shalimar. You can find many vintage bottles of Shalimar that at reasonable prices with a little research, and there's plenty available. When I smelled my first vintage bottle of Shalimar, extrait the lightbulb went off in my head. I thought, "That's what they mean by animalic." It's lovely in many formulations. Mouchoir de Monsieur is the gentlemen's version of Jicky, and I can't argue it at #2. I need to find a bottle very soon. That was on my list in early 2020, but I got sidetracked by the Indie houses to which you've introduced us. Mitsouko is the clear #1. She is the queen of chypres. I can't image how well Dan's 40 year-old extrait smells. Yes, Jo! Real oakmoss. There's no substitute. The Mitsouko EDT is also very nice, when they were using real oakmoss. Also, the PDT versions of anything is worth buying. Thank you for helping me to appreciate this house. Their fragrances take you back, and cause you to think of dressing up in your best and enjoying the finer things in life. We certainly appreciate those things more in these days.

I for the first time in my fragrance journey bought a haul of guerlain perfume and it hit me with the realisation that I have wasted thousands of pounds buying perfume from other houses when I could've just bought Guerlain and be happy..something as simple as Habit rouge edt has totally re wired my brain in the way i now think about perfume..
@@WaftsfromTheLoft ..yeah I chose the wrong wording when describing Habit rouge...didn't mean simple as the actual perfume itself I was trying to say that the likes of Habit rouge,vetiver Heritage and L'instant etc etc are the more "well known" and obvious perfumes to buy when first dipping your toes into the world of Guerlain...then you go on to their more exclusive offerings...but yes one hundred percent agree with you that Habit rouge is very complex and actually rouge is the perfume that's now gotten me obsessed with Guerlain because of how complex and beautiful it is...brilliant channel by the way and keep up the great work..👍

Wow, MdM at number 2, quite a surprise, I'd like to smell it sometime, in this version or the late '80s when it was re-released as an edt. I suspect it's very different from the original extrait from which I have a bottle that I recently purchased.
Disappointed about the ranking of l’heuer bleue and Shalimar. And I feel like Mouchoir de monsieur is the younger brother of Jicky, I prefer Jicky anyway. Mitsouko deserves to be in the first place, I have never experienced a similar fragrance similar to it. Anyway this top list depending on your taste. Can you tell me how to cut the strings but leave the tassel on the bottle? I have a bottle of Jicky Parfum that I am dying to open - but don't want to loose the tassel. I've been toying with buying a small bottle of vintage Derby and I finally did. I cannot wait to receive it!
You need to unpick the metal clasp. It’s very soft (lead?) but you’ll need tweezers to unpick it, untie the ribbon, then put it back on. Enjoy the Derby!
I can't believe you left L'Homme Idéal edp out. I think that could turn into a masterpiece, iv had so many compliments wearing this, most saying wow you smell so different
What a beautiful list. It’s a great house, isn’t it? Just got myself the modern L’heure bleue in EdP as well as a tiny sample of the parfum from the 80s. Both are beautiful, but it’s as if they’re two different fragrances. The parfum is magical. Thank you for sharing this best of.

i suppose my collection is small, by comparison - about 150 fragrances/bottles. I own but one Guerlain, and likely not a popular one at all, "Songe de Bois de The." thank you for the fine presentation.
I love both Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleu, but whereas I can always wear mitsouko, LHB can very occasionally remind me of chicken biryani. I still wear it, but Mitsouko is my favourite along with Apres L’Ondee and Vol de Nuit. And Heritage and Habit Rouge.
Apres l'Ondee is so gorgeous I wear it only after some consideration. It's beauty is distracting! Edit: Had to immediately douse myself in Shali as soon as I saw the bottle! It is one of those scents that has me still trying new perfumes; I think nothing could be better than this, but then I wonder, what if something is?

Hello gents! So I have just recently purchased my first bottle of Habit Rouge EDT. I like it, however, when I smelled it in a store a few months back I remember there being a lot more leather to it. Could that possibly have been the EDP or maybe just a different batch where the leather was more prominent? Still a great fragrance but I find my bottle to dry down quickly to a powdery Rose scent. Would love to hear your opinion.
As we said at the beginning , it’s only a ranking of the Guerlain fragrances we own, not all 700. That said, I’ve tried all of the Matiere line several times, but have never been moved to buy one.

Any in particular that you’d recommend? I haven’t tried the new iris one, but I found Iris ganache overly sweet and ultimately lacking the complexity of Après l’Ondée or l’heure bleue
@@WaftsfromTheLoft the new Iris smells like Dior Homme, so for the price point = not great. Tonka Imperiale and Bois D’Armenie and very nice. The Spiritueuse Double Vanille is super popular too. I really want to try the Ylang but it’s not available at my local for some reason.
Obviously you don't own some of the best ones: a number from L'Art et la Matiere including Spiriteuse Double Vanille, Tonka Imperiale, Angelique Noir, Bois D'Armenie; also Le Parfum de 68.
It's so funny to hear LIDGE described as a shampoo clubbing scent. (Full disclosure: it's one of my favorites). I always think of it as rather elegant, but I don't have access to the class and poshness (poshiosity?) that you two have! Cheers
Gents, I am surely no expert on Guerlain and have not smelled the majority of the listed perfumes and certainly need more education. I may be completely mistaken here with my comment but nonetheless this is a subjective olfactory journey and each perception is highly individual so.... I am gonna go against the grain and risk to be considered as a dammed blasphemous cretin, by stating that of the few Guerlain perfumes I own, Vetiver and its Extreme flanker seem achingly outdated to me (should have evolved to be Vetu de Vert by Motif Olfactif). And I use the word outdated sparingly as I am someone who still digs Roger et Gallet l’Homme for example so you get the idea. Furthermore, Songe d’un Bois d’Ete (rebranded as Bois Mysterieux) and Santal Royal both are perceived by my Limbic System to be non-cohesive soups of aromatic chemicals that Mr. Thierry Wasser missed the mark on both with his arrow. I am not trying to agitate anyone here so plz be nice and civic with your responses, as I am sharing my personal experience which maybe totally flawed to others. Written with passion to perfumes in mind and heart. Spread the Fragrant Love

Habit Rouge is a masterpiece. 👍👍👍 I also have Vetiver Extreme and thinks it's a belter. You just can't go wrong with Guerlain fragrances at all..

I have an eau de guerlain from the 1980s 120ml full bottle, haven’t tried it yet worried it may not be me.
What a beautiful list. It’s a great house, isn’t it? Just got myself the modern L’heure bleue in EdP as well as a tiny sample of the parfum from the 80s. Both are beautiful, but it’s as if they’re two different fragrances. The parfum is magical. Thank you for sharing this best of.

i suppose my collection is small, by comparison - about 150 fragrances/bottles. I own but one Guerlain, and likely not a popular one at all, "Songe de Bois de The." thank you for the fine presentation.

I love both Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleu, but whereas I can always wear mitsouko, LHB can very occasionally remind me of chicken biryani. I still wear it, but Mitsouko is my favourite along with Apres L’Ondee and Vol de Nuit. And Heritage and Habit Rouge.
Apres l'Ondee is so gorgeous I wear it only after some consideration. It's beauty is distracting! Edit: Had to immediately douse myself in Shali as soon as I saw the bottle! It is one of those scents that has me still trying new perfumes; I think nothing could be better than this, but then I wonder, what if something is?
So sad that Après l’Ondée is being discontinued. Madness
@@WaftsfromTheLoft I just saw it on the Guerlain France website yesterday. They changed the bottle from the bee bottle to the Mitsouko styled one. It seems like the French site is the only one that lists it.
Well, i really like the house of Guerlain, but this list has a lot of Parfum that are difficult to find. Heck, most of them i have never heard before.

My Coriolan bottle is covered with a leather type material, instead of just plain glass.
Hello gents! So I have just recently purchased my first bottle of Habit Rouge EDT. I like it, however, when I smelled it in a store a few months back I remember there being a lot more leather to it. Could that possibly have been the EDP or maybe just a different batch where the leather was more prominent? Still a great fragrance but I find my bottle to dry down quickly to a powdery Rose scent. Would love to hear your opinion.

As we said at the beginning , it’s only a ranking of the Guerlain fragrances we own, not all 700. That said, I’ve tried all of the Matiere line several times, but have never been moved to buy one.

Any in particular that you’d recommend? I haven’t tried the new iris one, but I found Iris ganache overly sweet and ultimately lacking the complexity of Après l’Ondée or l’heure bleue

The Spiritueuse Double Vanille is super popular too.

Obviously you don't own some of the best ones: a number from L'Art et la Matiere including Spiriteuse Double Vanille, Tonka Imperiale, Angelique Noir, Bois D'Armenie; also Le Parfum de 68.

It's so funny to hear LIDGE described as a shampoo clubbing scent. (Full disclosure: it's one of my favorites). I always think of it as rather elegant, but I don't have access to the class and poshness (poshiosity?) that you two have! Cheers

I am surely no expert on Guerlain and have not smelled the majority of the listed perfumes and certainly need more education. I may be completely mistaken here with my comment but nonetheless this is a subjective olfactory journey and each perception is highly individual so....
I am gonna go against the grain and risk to be considered as a dammed blasphemous cretin, by stating that of the few Guerlain perfumes I own, Vetiver and its Extreme flanker seem achingly outdated to me (should have evolved to be Vetu de Vert by Motif Olfactif). And I use the word outdated sparingly as I am someone who still digs Roger et Gallet l’Homme for example so you get the idea. Furthermore, Songe d’un Bois d’Ete (rebranded as Bois Mysterieux) and Santal Royal both are perceived by my Limbic System to be non-cohesive soups of aromatic chemicals that Mr. Thierry Wasser missed the mark on both with his arrow.
I am not trying to agitate anyone here so plz be nice and civic with your responses, as I am sharing my personal experience which maybe totally flawed to others.
