Poor Patricia, victim to a sexist family 😪
Reminiscent of other cultures in the world. Women just need to prove them wrong.

Team Patricia! 👃💪🌸🌟🙌
The way you tell an intelligent tale while twirling your hair is FABULOUS ~
Thanks Michelle 💖
Thank you for making this video! Guerlain is my favourite perfume house. I've inherited a huge collection of Guerlain from my late grandmother with a lot of vintage an discontinued treasures. Their style has definitely changed over the decades and I prefer the older, less fruity-sweet creations but the newer ones are still pleasing and often comforting.
Thanks for sharing!! 🌸
BRAVO ALLISON!!! 👏🏼 OMG! How much I missed watching Beauty History! Outstanding job my dear friend! A million likes!!! 💖💖💖💖
Aw thank you so much Jackeline!! ❤️ ❤️
Wow very informative video thanks a lot
Thank you!
Another fascinating history lesson! I am a lifelong Guerlain customer (Shalimar was my first fragrance love and I wore it on my wedding day in 1979!). I still think their bronzers are unbeatable.
What a wonderful story!! ❤️❤️ Don't forget, a new video the first Friday of every month so there's a new one soon!
Wow - this is your best ever! You really went deep and I appreciate all of the hard work since it is a more obscure history. Please let us know if you take the online fragrance course. 💖
I certainly will Heather! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
@@AllisonChase I’m so curious, what’s the online fragrance course? And can I take it? 🌸 … Oops! I just finished watching this AMAZING deep dive into this historical fragrance and beauty house. One day I’d like to take the digital course at the Osmotheque. 😄
Thank you for your work and Presentation. There is nothing better than a lasy sunday afternoon, listening to you telling these stories. It´s my favourite form of relaxing. LOL
Oh thank you so much 😊 I’m so glad you’re enjoying this series.
Can’t believe I missed this video when it first came out 😱 Well done Allison. Another very interesting Beauty History episode. After hundreds of years we have finally seen the refillable lipstick come back 🤩 Can not wait for your next episode. I enjoy them so much 😍
Thank you so much Sue! There’s a new Beauty History episode the first Friday of every month.
I love Guerlain. Thank you for doing all this research on them. I find that Guerlain doesn't get enough press or love compared to the newer brands of perfume and makeup. I love their foundation, lipsticks and perfumes.
I think so too! They have such a rich and important history ❤️
OMG He said what??? You are absolutely right to call him a racist douche. Such a disappointment that a woman heir couldn't take over as a lead perfumer but very happy she is doing amazingly. Sadly, it is still a boys only club even in the 21st century. Again, thank you for the video.
@@summertweet Girl I know!!! When I read the article I was like WHAT? I'm so glad that Patricia is doing well in the perfume world.
Wonderful!!! I am so glad you are bringing us history again … and such a fascinating subject for the return!
Thank you Christina 💖
Thanks for all the work you put into these beauty house history videos. I do enjoy them very much. Your story telling skills are excellent and you make the history come alive! Well done, Alli!
Thank you Vivienne!!
I never knew Guerlain was that old. I mean, you always hear how it is the baseline of french beauty, but well, it truly is then. What a face-slap ending for them. Makes me wonder what else they've done within their company in the past TWO centuries, we just don't know about it.
The unpleasantries aside, I only recently got my first piece of Guerlain beauty, the beautiful butterfly wing lipstick case for my 1830 velvet : ) I'm definitely getting some Meteorites at some point, too and after this video I must spend some time at their perfume counter in the future!
As always, thank you for your research!
I think this was the oldest BH subject. I was shocked by how old this perfume house is!
This was really interesting - thank you for all your hard work. Hearing of Jean-Paul’s racism does put me off the brand, similar to Chanel’s collaboration w the Nazis and her attempt to have them take the business from her co-founders the (Jewish) Wertheimers (I read that the Wertheimers gave the business to a trustworthy gentile friend during the war when they fled to America and he returned it to them after the war. Very pleasingly the Wertheimers are now the sole owners of Chanel so have the last laugh.)
Yes! I talked about that in my Chanel episode of Beauty History. I know it's very shocking but I thought it was still important to include in the video. I think we can look back at Guerlain and appreciate different contributors in the family.
You should know that the wertheimers swindled Coco Chanel. She wanted to get her company back.
Utter nonsense. And what kind of human beings asked the Nazis to resolve their fabricated business disputes with Jews?
@@marjorieallardice6960 Thank you for this disturbing detail about Chanel. So many iconic industries collaborated with the Nazis, including IBM, Bayer and of course, Hugo Boss. Disgusting even 90 years later.
Thankyou so very much Allison!! I Really love and appreciate all your hard work with the history's of these great French perfume and skincare house's. Absolutely fabulous, please keep them coming! 💖
Thank you Vicki 💖
YAY!!!! It's sooo needed! Thank you so much Alli! I am so excited to the return of these series! xoxo
I’m so excited to bring this series back!! Thank you so much for your support 🥰🥰
I enjoyed this video so very much! Guerlain’s history is fascinating. Thank you! Beautiful Allison. ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh how I love the series. You do it so well. I learnt so much and I was disappointed about the boys club. There are many cultures still to this day, value the male more than the female in their family unfortunately. It will take many generations to change that.
Thank you for keeping up with this series!
Yes the boys club us very disappointing.
Omg Jean Paul gave me a headache too🙈 on a better note he’s ancestors seemed like descent persons . This could probably be my favorite beauty history video ! I quested it right when u ask on Instagram what video would be next ! You did an amazing job 😘😘 Team Patricia !
Team Patricia indeed! JP gave me a headache too 🥴
This is the first time I have watched your series . I absolutely love the insight to the history of these product houses .
Thank you Barbara!!
Thank you so much Allison 🥰. I'm half way through your rich, well researched history of Guerlain. Prior to watching this, I bought into the myth that Shalimar was created by mistake when the perfumer accidentally spilled something (vanilla?) into Jicky. This is fascinating. Carrying on 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you!!
Loved it Allison! When you applied those meterorite pearls to your face it looked like a light was turned on.
Thank you! They certainly are wonderful.
I absolutely adore you and your storytime!!! 🥰🌈🦋👍🌹🌻💄🍁🌺
Thank you so much Robin 🥰🥰🥰
I’m so glad this series is back! Thank you Allison for all your hard work 💄
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for watching!
I searched for that zoom class so fast! And it’s in French only 😢
I love this historical experience ❤
Oh thank you so much! Yeah, unfortunately the class is only in French.
Totally enjoyed your story on Guerlain. Thankyou so much!
And thank you so much for watching 🥰

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest edition of this series. Job well done. It is abundantly clear you worked very hard putting it together. A wealth of knowledge you passed on. Thank you.
Thank you Kathleen 💖
Woo boo. Been away for a bit and when I logged in and saw this video I was so excited! I love Guerlain - doesn’t get enough attention. Fabulous lipsticks and powders. One of my favorite perfumes, Little Black Dress is by Guerlain. I always get compliments when I wear LBD. Well done!
Thank you so much 🥰
I was absolutely fascinated by this history lesson. I adore Guerlain and I have enjoyed all of your history lessons so far!!! My newest fragrance is Musc Nobile, a warm, spicy and sooo extra scent by Guerlain. BTW, your make-up looked in the video.
Thank you so much Julie 🥰
Hi from the UK. I love all your videos. These Beauty History videos are super though, SO interesting.
Oh thank you so much. Hello from Canada 🇨🇦
Excellent Alli, mind you, I can’t imagine spraying feceal matter round my neck or anywhere else! Thank goodness we’ve come a long way from then. ❤️ looking forward to the next one already xxx
I know right?? 😂😂😂 we’ve come a long way.
How about whale vomit? 🤮🐳 Sperm whales to be exact. Lolol! That was also used in perfumes for the longest while. I think some perfume houses still use it. It’s called by a much more pleasant name, Ambergris. Most now use a synthetic version. But methinks I would much rather the real. 🐳 🌊😉
Thank you very much for this wonderful and thorough video on the history of the house of Guerlain. Many of my favorite perfumes and makeup items are from Guerlain. It is very sad to hear that Patricia did not become the next master perfumer, and of course Jean-Paul's racism is absolutely shocking... so glad to hear he was immediately removed! I am very interested in one of the Osmotheque online fragrance courses... specially since we can't travel at the time.
Me too Gita! But I'm so glad that Patricia was able to have a successful career in her own right despite the fact that she should have inherited the Guerlain nose title.
Thank you mam for giving us the knowledge about guerlain history I love it I wish I was born in the 1800
My pleasure 😊
This was so interesting. Now I have to go back and watch the other histories you’ve done.
Enjoy the other episodes!
Love the story and history It’s so fun ! Tour hair looks pretty pulled back

@@AllisonChase indeed it does!!!
What an amazing episode! Thank you for all your hard work on these!! ❤️
Thank you Barb ❤️❤️❤️
Respect you even more Alli, this was superb, enjoyable and so interesting! And you related the info as if you were chatting informally - not boring, serious and fact after fact. I noticed the bees on the imperial cologne and found it fascinating when shortly after, you explained what it meant because I've noticed how they use this motif in modern day. Ooh samsara, I used to really like that and wear it often. Details about shalimar, wow, I'm Indian and visited the Taj Mahal and never even knew. Appreciate all the work that went into this and appreciate you, thank you! 😘
Thank you so much Sukhi 😘😘😘😘
This was an interesting video. Thank you for the level of information provided. 👏

Thank you so much!!
Hi again Allison , wouldn't it be beautiful if Guerlain brought back the porcelain jars and we could purchase the refills to put in. Just a thought, but very extra! I would certainly invest! Once again thankyou
Oh that would be so lovely!!
Great video! Love history. Remember my mother wearing Mitsouco. Don’t know if they still make it. Hope you continue with this monthly history videos. XO.
I think it still is available but with a different formulation probably.
As an almost "ancient" fanatic of Guerlain, I thank you for choosing this topic, Alli, perfectly done :) Guerlain lip gloss and Champs Elysees perfume were the first luxury beauty products I bought myself with my own money and I have a lot of emotions related to this brand. I'm still using their skincare - Abeille Royale mostly, Meteorites are the only powder I've been using for years now. I hope that their makeup will come back as it used to be. Too great house not to be on top....
Exactly! It has way too much prestige and history to not be on top.
Bees are ruled by the queen and subsequently, the bee is a traditional symbol of the goddess Venus. I remember Jicky, which became Shalimar after adding vanilla (Guerlainade, thanks to your video I know it was a more complex concoction). I wore Shalimar for many years, as did my mother and grandmother - a family tradition. My husband loves it, as did every man I dated. It's delicious and to some, smells like cupcakes. It was hard for me to believe that Jicky was the source of Shalimar (sans vanilla) because, to me, Jicky smelled terrible!
Please tell us, what are you stirring and applying with your brush?
Fantastic video!
Thank you so much! I believe you are referring to the Guerlain Meteorite pearls, they're listed down in the description box.
Loved it Allison, the best one ever!
Thank you!
Hi, Alli! I love the brand Guerlain!(despite they have high prices). My favourite are the perfumes "Champs Elysees" and "Meteorites". Love from Poland!

Thanks!
HI Ally! Happy Friday- of course, this is my favorite venue on your channel that I already love. I’m a professional dog groomer and occasionally cats as well… we have to express the anal glands on some dogs that come in.. not all can have it done by me, sometimes the licensed vet techs have to come in and take over.. much to my delight! So bizarre, specific history facts. Thanks so much for bringing history back to your channel!
I love your hair pulled back like this… i love the Meteorites Pearls you applied..when I clicked the link, it went to the compacts.. but you were using the canister… ? Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Laura! I used the compact for the face powder and a canister for the meteorite blush pearls.
Thank you, Ally, this was very interesting and educational. As far as I know, today Guerlain use some natural ingredients in their products, don't they?
I think so!
Excellent and interesting video Alli, thank you for your hard work on this exciting history. I never liked the smell of musk, now I know why 😂 I’ve never tried Guerlain perfumes, not sure why but now I feel like I need to own at least one.
Musk certainly does have an interesting backstory 😂
Great series! Will def check out the other videos! Had no idea Guerlain has been around for so long! Def happy anal glands are no longer involved in their perfumes 🤣
Same!! 🤣🤣
Thx a lot for the history 🤗👌
Thanks for watching Susanne ❤️
Hi Allison . Your video on Guerlain was very interesting. Thank you 😊
I have a question for you , Chalimar was my mom perfume ,I don't know why, they never show the bottle wich had a big red dot in the middle . They show always the same that we have now .Allison have you ever seen one . ..
Thank you so much Lise. No haven’t seen that bottle with the red dot ❤️
IIRC, Patricia did say in an interview (I think here in youtube) that the house/family preferred then for male master perfumers. So she went and established her own company. And that the industry now skews female e.g. something like there are more women in the perfume schools now than men. (Ok this last bit could be a diff perfumer who said it but yeah 😌)
Oh that's interesting, thanks for sharing!
Great video. Great research.
Thank you so much 😊

Hi Allison,
Whoa………. That’s a long video Allison! I have to watch this for at least 3 times, because I cannot read that long of a book. I love it when somebody else narrates for me 💕
‘Civet cat’ rings bell because of SARS for me.
Allison, Mumtaz was a Mughul (Moghul) princess. She wasn’t Hindu (I am 😊) She was a Muslim. India was invaded by Mughuls in 1600s and they built Taj Mahal in India. Its easier to get confused that they were natives because of the beautiful monument, while Taj Mahal is a painful reminder of an invasion for India.
Thanks for your video 💕💕💕
Thank you for watching Jenny! I’m sorry I got some of the information wrong about Mumtaz, thank you for correcting me on that subject. That poor civet cat has quite the stories history 😂
Thank you 🙏🏻 Very interesting.
thank you!
You're welcome! 🧡🧡🧡
For some reason I knew quite a bit of this history lol. I don't know why lol. I don't know why but the name Anik Goutal comes to mind.
That's so interesting! Anik Goutal is another iconic French perfumer.

Jicky is not like it used to be with all the reformulations sadly. It was one of my favourite Guerlains.
It definitely has been reformulated.
It’s still called Le Meurice and is one of 9 luxury hotels in The Dorchester Collection (Plaza Athenée is another - as is The Dorchester in London). The Sultan of Brunei owns The Dorchester Collection.
Ahh good to know! Have you ever stayed in one?
Yes, I’ve been very lucky.
