First off, WAY TO GO Lisa!!! 🎉🎉🎉 And shoutout to you Gatewood for your reaction time to get Lisa back in that kayak AND go get the bag and paddle! Such an epic adventure and I think we are sold on kayaking the rivers in Colorado!
YES! Lisa is the real champion for going on this trip and giving it her all. It was wild for sure! She always provides a wonderful balance to these trips and makes them so much better. We all have to go back and kayak in Colorado! But after a Texas trip haha
Haha love to hear that ash! It’s been too long since last upload but tons of videos in the pipeline. Hello 2023 paddling season! Is it Colorado or one of your favorite rivers?
@@GatewoodBrown Totally worth the wait! My wife and I live in New Mexico so Durango, Colorado/Million Dollar High Way area is our favorite easy trip to just get away. We’re planning a few paddle trips there this summer so this was super cool to see!

The scenery, the experiences, just amazing as usual. Can't believe you don't have a million followers yet. Always looking forward to the next video!

Great to watch. My wife and I have an inflatable tandem and we've been all around the country doing rivers. I continually scour the web looking for rivers where a safe self-shuttle with bicycles is possible. I see 3 great ideas here. Check out McDonald Creek in Glacier National Park if you are ever there. It is stunning, has some Class II and the shuttle is on paved bike trails through the woods of Glacier National Park. I even carried my bear spray on the bike.
CW you’re speaking my language. I want to paddle glacier so bad. It’s been on my list ever since visiting the park many moons ago. Smart to carry bear spray! I’ve started messing with Uber to self shuttle and it’s worked pretty well. Something to consider!
I love texas and I've explored every corner of it but man once I moved out west to Colorado it's a whole new world. The west is truly something else, an outdoor lovers paradise. I probably have over 1000 pins on my map of just Colorado alone that I want to see.
Totally agree with that statement. CO just blows so many places out of the water with regard to outdoor pursuits. The massive amounts of public land help a ton too.

Another Awesome Vid. Did you utilize any local shuttle services? Can’t wait for the Remote Design Duffles! Any other videos in the works? Must take a lot of work getting them put together. I guess the Devil’s in the details.😊
No shuttles were utilized but definitely would on a next trip. First river we did the classic foot shuttle haha. Second river Lisa was my shuttle. She shopped while I paddled in telluride! Last river my dad ran shuttle for me and Bennett. Devils is up next! Starting the edit next week and so stoked
Thank you VT! This one is pretty attainable if you’re within driving distance. Maybe to do once every couple years. Definitely was a lot of time off work!
Thanks my dude! All inspired by videos like yours and drew simms. Vehicles can open up some fun terrain. And for me, that’s tracking down remote rivers!
Dude we’d love to have ya on board with the gear! The duffel and backpack this year are top notch. Spent a lot of time getting them developed and so stoked they are finally here
Hooray! A new Gatewood video!!! Wow man, that looks like an epic trip. I like the idea of mixing in primitive camping with resort/hotel stays to balance things out when you're with the wife. I may use that tactic to talk my wife in to a similar trip. How much harder is it to navigate river features in the tandem versus your single? That's incredible that Bennet played Red Rocks! So happy for him. "Nature's Trail". I love it.
Cheers PPP! It was totally epic and a nice change from our bony Texas rivers So much water out there. Ya know I really liked the hotel change up, certainly made for a light at the end of the tunnel with regard to civility haha. Lisa did great! Bennett is actually headlining red rocks next month!
Generally, the Forest Service requires dispersed campsites in the backcountry to be at least 200’ from the water. Is this also true when kayak camping?
Great question! These sites were pre existing without messages from the forest service so we felt good about it. I wonder if the FS has certain areas where that applies. We love camping by the river!
Epic! As always great cinematography and super inspiring! Praying for Colorado flow in South Texas! Keeeeeep raining!! Is that your brother playin Red Rocks?
Thanks, as always, for the river inspiration! Giving this Texas boy a hankering to up my kayak game from Texas' Colorado River to the rivers of Colorado. Awesome job, looks like y'all had a blast.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch Zach! Man I love Texas rivers but sometimes it’s fun to go to a different region and see what’s offered. Colorado is rad! Need to spend a whole month there haha. Passed so many spots that we didn’t have time to try
Cheers to Lisa indeed! She was way out of her comfort zone the whole time and still had a fun time. I watch lots of videos in NZ and would love to visit there one day!
Lol man that compared to the drip-fed springs you're used to, these rivers were MOVING! That narrow tandem didn't stand a chance and it seemed like ever local watching knew it hahaha. If not for plans the following few days, I would have had a tough time leaving that first good riverside campsite. Looked like it had just a little bit of magic there, just so cozy and perfect. Also if you were curious, that scat at the beginning was just deer poop lol. Or moose, depending on the scale of it that's hard to tell. Either way, pellet scat is basically never a worry, with the only exception (unless i'm mistaken of course) being when Moose are in the rut and can get cranky mid to late fall.
Haha that is spot on, these rivers were cruising! So funny this is low for most locals. Like I’ll take that all year long! The tandem was definitely underpowered with two folks on it. Single mode was great though, definitely didn’t feel like a 13’ boat. Agreed on the campsite, we didn’t want to leave but this trip had a tight schedule. Ideally nights 1 and 2 would’ve been there. Night 1 was a drag! Lol
That’s a good rule of thumb on the scat. I was used to keeping an eye out for scat since we don’t have that issue in Texas. Glad to hear it wasn’t bear!
Thank you for continuing to do videos my son watches them he is 7 going to be 8 he love to kayak now ! Great job the only problem now is he's not watching my channel LOL
@GatewoodBrown not yet lol, but I love the encouragement, thank you. That trip will be a source to sea trip with my daughter. It'll take a bit to finish, but it will be epic.
Im so glad you made a colorado trip. My favorite floats are in Colorado. The Colorado River has plenty of spots you can kayak. Very few log jams. Edit: I missed this drop because I was floating the Colorado😂
Yes! For how much time I spend out west I have a serious lack of content from there. Hoping to change that this winter as I edit up some trips from out there. Colorado is a gem!
Nice to see you guys venturing out of Texas. But, as you may have noticed, water elsewhere in the west is both colder and more challenging. This Tx boy had to learn that lesson in various hard ways. :) Tie in your stuff, dress for the water temp, not the air, and consider a flatter bottomed boat for easier maneuvering. Have fun out there!
Haha yes! The water moves swiftly up there. We want to try a more inflatable style tandem next time. Nyce rafts look like a great option. Thanks for the tips Brent!
@@GatewoodBrown Yes, IK's are a great way to go. Very forgiving and can handle up to class V with the right boat and skill set. The Nyce boats look decent and you might also check out Aire kayaks and STAR kayaks. The latter use a high pressure drop stitched floor similar to a stand up paddleboard. And if you don't know about pack rafts, check them out. It's a new category of IK that are ultra light weight for carrying in a backpack and that can carry gear internal to the inflated tubes when on the water. Hope to see you on the river some day!
@@brentbolton6984 all great advice! I’ve done a packrafting trip before and loved it. Can’t believe they get so much durability out of a 10lb boat. Nuts! If I do more mountain water I’ll definitely have to snag one, it’s not the best tool for our Texas rivers but I have some plans for out west this summer
Hardly late! Still day 1, I’d say you’re early in no doubt. So proud of the dudes playing red rocks. What an unreal experience. More to come on that next month though!
I’m going to kayak the Colorado river in az next week. I’ve done it before and it’s a beauty. Hope it’s on your list as well! It’s also much calmer so could be perf for the gf
They really are! I’ve only paddled the crew and would love a chance to try out the others in their lineup. The crew was a blast! And I loved it’s versatility
@@GatewoodBrown the crew is a work horse! I’ve owned the original lite tackle and currently have the Shoalie. The Shoalie is my all-time favorite paddling kayak. With the camping you do the Lite Tackle 2 would be a great option to try out as well!
@@dansasser9246 glad to see the shoal is being well received. Looks like the king design cycle worked well! They nailed it for kayak fisherman. The LTII is definitely the perfect fit for what we do. And that orange color…brilliant!
@@dansasser9246 that’s great to hear! I’ve messaged with one of their employees and he was a stand up guy. Would be cool to meet more of them! I love seeing headwaters Dan’s enthusiasm for their boats. That dude knows so much about kayaks!
I think you belong in the mountain west, man! BTW that scat looked like either elk or deer. They look basically the same, but elk droppings are larger.
Two great boats! The OT 120 is very stable and more of a barge, not the best for maneuvering but I've never had a big deal about that. The Crew is great for paddling tandem or solo and has way more area for storage. If I could choose one, it would be the Crew since it has so much deck storage for camping trips in solo mode.
@@GatewoodBrownThanks for the info! That’s really helpful. Paddling solo on camping trips is my intended use, so hearing that about the Crew gives me really good guidance. Much appreciated!
i see that green and blue zipper backpack and you talk about it a bunch but we still cannot buy it. unique size and looks high quality, wondering when it will be finally available for purchase
It’s sold out! The next iteration will be available in 2024 BUT I’m releasing a roll top dry backpack on Sunday that will be very compelling for a lot of folks
Hey there! I’m enjoying your channel. Have you done a video detailing what kind of gear you pack for an overnight or even just a day trip? I’m thinking jet boil, camping grate favorites, etc. im in Texas too. I would much appreciate recommended gear. ✌️
Hey thanks for tuning in to all the videos! I usually do an annual video covering my gear list for kayak camping. For day trips it is much simpler. I usually just do a Remote Designs dry backpack loaded with beverages, snacks, camera equipment and any layers that the weather may require. In Texas we don't need much, just lots of water to stay hydrated!
This predates my fishing acumen so I’d definitely take a rod next time. Although I’d be lost trying to fish for trout lol. Bet they’re all over the place up there

@@paddlepedalproductions5452 Ha! I start the edit next week! Estimating about a month to put it together
your adventures are so inspirational!
Thank you VT! This one is pretty attainable if you’re within driving distance. Maybe to do once every couple years. Definitely was a lot of time off work!
DUDE! What an epic trip that you and Lisa took, definitely added to my bucket list!
Thanks my dude! All inspired by videos like yours and drew simms. Vehicles can open up some fun terrain. And for me, that’s tracking down remote rivers!
Great video! Makes me want to go on a WILD adventure!
Also great products! Cant wait to grab some gear for some adventures!
Love to hear that John! Wild adventures keep the soul alive and question your trip planning abilities haha. But fun to make revisions along the way.
Dude we’d love to have ya on board with the gear! The duffel and backpack this year are top notch. Spent a lot of time getting them developed and so stoked they are finally here
Kayak season=Gate vid szn lets goooo
That’s exactly right! Trying to upload every 3 weeks or so but this devils river video will take longer than usual so I do it Justice. That’s up next!
Really cool videos thank you for sharing
Thank you JB! Thanks for taking time to watch it
@@GatewoodBrown you're welcome
Lisa is an absolute trooper.
She really is! I couldn’t imagine putting up with my off the wall ideas. So thankful for her
Epic! As always great cinematography and super inspiring! Praying for Colorado flow in South Texas! Keeeeeep raining!! Is that your brother playin Red Rocks?
Thank you dr Dan! Looks like we have some rain storms piling up. Could have some gnarly flows soon here in Texas!
@@GatewoodBrown totally! Going to guad today! Need another Medina monsoon run! Let me know if y’all go out :)
@@drdanfoss1529 Yes! We need monsoons in the hill country! Looks like we may get that this week. Fingers crossed
The long wait is over woooh let's gooo 😊
Back in action! More on the way too. Thanks for always watching!
Oh, my hometown. Man, I loved this video.
What! Well consider me jealous. That’s is heaven on earth up there in those hills
Well done Lisa pushing yourself nice! Good to see the New Zealand wines being consumed :-) watching video from NZ.....
Cheers to Lisa indeed! She was way out of her comfort zone the whole time and still had a fun time. I watch lots of videos in NZ and would love to visit there one day!
Great video. Definitely deserves a like. Plus excellent taste in music.
I appreciate that Grant! Stoked you took the time to watch the video and swing by for a comment. Have a great day man!
The San Juan’s are one of my favorite places, I’ve camped along south mineral creek as well. Keep the videos coming.
Yes! Prettiest range in Colorado I think. South Mineral has to be one of the most beautiful, car accessible campsite in Colorado. Simply stunning
Thank you for continuing to do videos my son watches them he is 7 going to be 8 he love to kayak now !
Great job the only problem now is he's not watching my channel LOL
Hey that is awesome! He might’ve recently commented too. Cheers to that! Hope y’all have fun out on the water
Can't wait to do the Colorado river this video just makes me want to do it now.
This weekend is calling your name! I still have yet to do the Colorado
Looks so fun!
Thanks man! It really was. Totally new landscape and didn’t overly know what to expect
Thanks for posting. Miss your videos.
Thanks Steven! This one took awhile to edit so now I have a nice backlog of trips to edit. Lots in the pipeline!
Will you to continue to make your backpack and hip pack dry bags? I noticed they weren’t on your website.
Short answer yes! Long answer is a roll top backpack will release in June 2023 and the zippered backpack redesign will be launched in spring 2024
0:52 this transition … 💯 😮
Haha trying to keep it smooth!
Great work Gatewood!!
Thanks Cole! Had a blast for sure. Need to take my fishing pole next time
Sorry I’m late to the party. I was out kayak fishing.
I’m glad Lisa held up. Red Rock was probably the incentive to keep going. 👍
Hardly late! Still day 1, I’d say you’re early in no doubt. So proud of the dudes playing red rocks. What an unreal experience. More to come on that next month though!
Another great adventure
Hey Steve! Thanks my man and hope you’ve been well. The 2023 paddling season has arrived!
Another great video! Hey, are you going to be restocking the Hip Packs?
Hey P! Hip packs will be restocked in 2024 so it’ll be awhile!
I’m going to kayak the Colorado river in az next week. I’ve done it before and it’s a beauty. Hope it’s on your list as well! It’s also much calmer so could be perf for the gf
Well consider me thoroughly jealous! The canyons and rivers through AZ are stunning along the Colorado river. Have fun out there Ashley!
Clear creek in golden CO is no joke! I went tubing once when I lived there and it was rough. I flipped multiple times and the flow rate was very high.
All the way from Singapore and I love all your videos ❤
Thank you Gerald! I appreciate you watching them all
That was awesome…🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for watching!
Those Crescent Kayaks are awesome paddling kayaks! Great video!
@@GatewoodBrown and a great company that stands behind their products! Look forward to more videos, definitely subscribed to the channel.
Dude I think so too! It’s way too much fun up there. So stoked to see you’re still loving it in Idaho. The fact it’s elk is a relief
How does that Crescent Crew compare to your Old Town 120? Looking at both of these right now. Thanks!
@@scottstringer4 you bet and enjoy! The crew is great. If you don’t need tandem the LT2 is a good option too
i see that green and blue zipper backpack and you talk about it a bunch but we still cannot buy it. unique size and looks high quality, wondering when it will be finally available for purchase
It’s sold out! The next iteration will be available in 2024 BUT I’m releasing a roll top dry backpack on Sunday that will be very compelling for a lot of folks
Great ride and vid bro
Thanks my dude!
Great video! My wife and I were wondering where that hotel was @ 12:20.
Thank you! That hotel was in Gateway, CO. Really cool place!
Do you have a video on your coffee setup and how to use it? Super interested.
I do not but that would be a fun video to make this summer. It’s great for camping because it’s all metal and hard to break
Yes! I’m looking for a setup for beach trips. This might fit the bill. Amazon is sold out of the grinder in your gear list.
I would have to have that trout rod in boat with me. Looks beautiful
This predates my fishing acumen so I’d definitely take a rod next time. Although I’d be lost trying to fish for trout lol. Bet they’re all over the place up there
Going up to north Carolina this month gonna be paddling the local river and lake
Have fun up there! NC is a paddling capital
@@GatewoodBrown so far it's been so fun I know in August the do a river release and people come from all over
Another great video
Thank you 129! Glad to have you along for this one
@@GatewoodBrown do you have a trip to Missouri scheduled for this year
How did y’all get to the top of the river and ride down to camp? Did you hike all that way up the river carrying the kayak?!
Drove up and dropped the kayak, drove the car back down to camp and then jogged back up to the launch! A little tough at 10k’ haha
I would recommend wearing water shoes or sort that covers over your feet.
Definitely! I like the nrs neoprene boots for stuff like this.
Hello, from texas! I was wondering how y’all end up at camp, do y’all hike to a distant location with the kayak or do you drive to said location then start?
Hey Morgan! We camped basically right next to the car. The site was right off the road which made everything so nice!
Awesome video my man!
As a fellow Texan that's a lot of water haha
Haha totally agree. They have it nice up there apparently. That was record flows for something like the Frio lol
Steering in a tandem is not easy. That weight up front kills your turning radius 😂
Haha the tandem is a blast but definitely comes with its complexities! Perfect for this trip though
We need more mountains in TX!
I agree! And mountains that aren’t 10 hours away! Haha
Awesome video! What hotel is that in SW Colorado?
Thank you! It’s the Gateway resort, highly recommend!
Just curious, what was the second river you floated?
The San Miguel in telluride! Probably my favorite of the trip. About 5 miles over the course of 2 hrs
Great video
Cheers toby!
You probably need 2 cars right because how do you get back up river?
2 cars would’ve been nice! Did the classic foot shuttle on that first one and then Lisa drive to the takeout for the second and third rivers.
What drone are you using mate??
This was all mavic 2 pro. But I just upgraded to a mavic 3!
Photoshopped out the 2500 other people camping behind every tree.....colorado is waaayyyyy overcrowded
Only crowded in the main stream spots! Plenty of solitude to be found
is the crescent crew that unstable of a kayak?
