I’m glad you made that comment about stylus wear, or the lack of it. I had/have a Linn K18 which must be about 35 years old and I was amazed that it never sounded worn out. I only changed cartridges last year as an upgrade but did read many an article saying you must change the stylus after …… which used to make me ponder.

Head of the Door - my favorite from The Cure. It would be one of those 10 deserted island records (as long as the deserted island had power and a turntable).

you don´t need to clean the stylus each side of the record you´re playing, well if it is a bad conditiobn record i would clean it but regular records if you clean them before playing makes no sense in cleaning the stylus much more with a solution , ihave my needle cleaning brush since 74 it as been working fine and due to my work i have equipment that i can watch the stylus lçike if they were 2 meter tall (or the biggest basketball player you ever seen )and every stage of it´s building, but it´s very expensive and i only do it because i can , for free, i do have my fathers records but from three i´m the oldest and the only who as interest in hi-fi so i have between mine and my father who passed away recentelly due to a badly done medical exam with 96 years old but he drove and didn´t seem that old but he was , so i kept his hi-fi component colection and music colection also, that i already had as i never sold or get rid on any component i have since a teenager ,12 years old, i have now 15.000 records and 7.000 cds not one record as noises , i re-started to buy records in 2017 when i discover that one of my favorite records from the 80´s was damaged when i bought a new hoouse for me and there was moist coming from the wall where i had my cabinet so i had to buy again 50 of my already owned records being the first i noticed the Electric from the Cult, than unknwon pleasures by joy division but all others were ok after being cleaned, those were deep destroyd by a white mould, it´s a pleasure i have to listen to music very often when i´m listening to music ,everyday after work or after diner or when i wake up or when letting myself falling asleep, Jazz i have thousands of them but i always liked rock music as i grew up as a man in the 70´s before there were the Beatles and rolling stones and a lot of soul music, this influences from my father´s records ,he also spent more money in hi-fi components than in me ,for no reason i didn´t talk to him for 35 years, once he heard me complain that i had not a car once i saw at my door a porshe 928 in 78 and i look at it like i would never could afford one when at night he phoned me and i listen "i´m only talking to you to say that the keys for the car are in the mail box as the documents ,i said "what car?" it´s GTS i hope you like it , well i really liked it and came from the sky ,not fallen or it would be destroyd i said thanks to him ,after driving very happy a modern porshe it even had a espectacular sound system from Blaupunkt that only in the doors had 6 speakers each, the problem was when i emptyed the tank , no money to buy more gas so it was looking good parked in front of my door and many times asked "who´s this car owner?"as i had bought a old 2cv that i could afford the gasoline and could take the top ,a convertible and it had not 2 h.p. but 4 has the model shows in french, but even today i have all my records in cabinets with framed glass doors ,the closer to the system the more listened they are ,than from time to time i change them as you call it on heavy rotation, by the main system i have boxes with records or cds or DAT´s or reels or cassettes also minidisc´s mainly compilations i still do on tape, but i stoped drinking when i was 50 and also other heavier stuff only smoking i couldn´t stop and tried maybe 5 times the more sucessfull i was was three days and two nights at the end of the third day i went to buy a pack of cigars and i even saw a policeman smoking and i asked him a cigar which he did and light too then i smoked it by his side and he said to me"are you feeling bad you look pale"i replied ,no it´s just that i don´t smoke for 3 days but i couldn´t resist and i was going to the gas station but has i saw you i asked, sorry for that" no problem he said, now i smoke a lot and listen to music as i´m getting old and with agriculture this month is the one with less work to do, keep on listening to good music

Just bought my first LP copy of DSOTM - an original pressing in excellent condition! Won it at an eBay auction for $12.50 + $5.95 shipping and 7% tax. I have been listening to DSOTM since 1973 but strangely never had an LP copy. I already have two CD versions which sound excellent!

Back in 2000 I sold my entire vinyl collection to switch to CD also, now I spend a fortune recapturing my youth but have fun doing so, love your channel BTW.

Great video, fella! I relate to your history with records as the timing closely matches mine. My Dad was a DIY electronics hobbyist that made our turntable, amplifier, and loudspeakers back in the 70s. However, his interest shifted to computers in the 80s (he made a personal computer in the late 70s and taught himself machine language) so stopped buying records, however. I was always very careful with my records but once i moved into a flatting situation, I had less control over how they were handled at parties... so now I'm back into playing them and have a very nice turntable, cartridge and stylus, I am systematically washing and putting them in fancy inner sleeves like you! Thanks, for the tip about the stylus cleaning solution - I will get me a bottle!

To get my stylus really clean, I take off the headshell, hold it needle-up under magnification, and carefully and thoroughly clean the stylus with the little brush and cleaning solution.

Pretty similar here, the seldom listen to are boxed. The oft listed are in arms length. About every 3 months I put out box of seldom listen and box the frequent albums. Wasn't toilet trained until after my second year, no professional archival technics here. Your relaxed humor makes your chat work.

New to the channel, and am binge watching everything lol Love your common sense approach to everything and non-biased experienced opinions! Loved the little reflection at the end about your dad, really hit me in the feels, not gonna lie welled up a bit, very nice touch! Gonna cheers you and your dad tonight when I'm spinning. I guess what really hit home was I've had similar experiences with my dad, almost verbatim when it came to the "lending" when I was a young fella lol ... Loved your Record handling perspective and I actually pretty much follow the same rituals, even down to storage. I do put mine in outer sleeves though, vinylstoragesolutions has an amazing product, crystal clear and just pleasing to dress up and protect the cover. Definitely get your perspective, and your collection is 10 times as large as mine or more lol Looking forward to following your channel forever, actually feel like unsubscribing to all my other channels as you have touched on everything with an awesome approach. Keeping my eyes peeled for a console tube amp, you've definitely convinced me, I've always been "tube curious" lol Keep the videos coming, awesome work!
