Thank you JT for allowing me to come on the show for a chat, I really enjoyed the experience, I haven’t watched the video back yet as I normally cringe when I see myself! It’s also lovely to see and read people’s positive comments with fans’ shared experiences. Great channel, keep up the good work.
@@WhosViews sounds a plan , although im far from a expert on any of the new series, can I get back to you JT ? Would be up for it just a bit going on at present
Another great Chit Chat JT. I found Andy really interesting to listen to. It's always fun to hear how fans found The Doctor. Kudos to you JT. I've said it before, these are proper conversations not just interviews and better for it
Great again wow we were lucky in Oz in 70s & 80s with lots of repeats now we could see colour DR Who ❤ Yes that's how we got our colours tv & yes Vhs Radio Rentals Adelaide. Cheers Andy Dunn & loved the B7 chat as well yes looking forward to Blurays as well. Love your calm manner & excitement of all Who. (Well nearly 😅) Love behind the sofa yes Janet can take over😂 but still enjoy.. she's so Tegan😂😂 "funny that " Love the voice overs as well lucky we have some of those. I get standard edition as easier & a tad cheaper agree why holding them off. I like some animation but only a couple. Love Live chats 💕 Cheers JT & team great memories again 🎉❤🎉
Thank you for your kind words, yeah I enjoyed doing it with JT, this is a great community to share DW related experiences. Wish I'd kept those old tapes for nostalgia! 😄
@@andysvinyl1565 Yeah JT is a good guy. I really admire his passion and knowledge. I had a similar lost video situation. After being a lapsed Doctor Who fan after the. 1980s My interest was reignited when in the early 2000s( I think ) the ABC ( Australia's BBC) rescreened every available Doctor Who episode from An Unearthly Child to Survival Monday to Thursday over a period of about 2 years I dillegently recorded every episode . Only to gradually lose or damage tapes over the years. I'm sure there are still several sealed boxes in the shed somewhere?
Great conversation JT and Andy! Much appreciated. I think most Who fans in the late 70s/early 80s also were Blake's 7 fans. Just as 80s Who fans loved Hitchhiker, Tripods, Star Cops and Red Dwarf. Long-standing fans were equally enamoured of Doomwatch and Survivors. Certainly I loved The Changes, the great "kids" drama from 1975, often cited as a kind of junior version of Survivors.
Thank you...Doomwatch and Survivors, another two cracking shows, they tried to remake survivors but cancelled! yeah now you mention if 'The Changes' is very much like survivors, they'd never make anything for kids like it now, way too dark.
Excellent conversations with you two. I remember those posh VHS tape covers back in the 80’s. I recall watching Invasion Earth in 1998. I think it was ok but I felt that it lost its way plot wise later on in the story. So many people at the time saying why aren’t the BBC making Doctor Who instead. I agree with you JT and Andy on modern Who. I’ve come to the conclusion that new Who will never get the full Classic vibe back and Disney Who couldn’t be further away from the great science fiction drama we used to love.
@@WhosViews way too shy likes 🤭 thanks for the offer though JT, but I will be sending an email either this month or next about a small project me and a friend have been working on. 💪⚡️🐙
Invaluable hour or so of insight and nostalgia! Readily agree about Blake's 7 and Sapphire and Steel, both being far too hallowed to have re-invention attempted at this point! Many thanks to you both and all the best for now. Paul
@@WhosViews Whilst greatly appreciating being asked, I'll decline for now. Nevertheless, please know that I have abiding respect for any content producers or panellists who kindly present a face (or voice) for this fine community of ours. Cheers!
Don't recall Invasion Earth being moved, but I do remember it going off the rails plot wise & killing off its most interesting character (pointlessly) halfway through.
Andy was correct in deciding not to watch Ncuti Season One. I wish I had done the same. Despite me knowing it would be crap even I was surprised on how bad it actually was. No matter on my low expectations, RTD and company somehow managed to exceed them on how rancid it would be. Not only is Ncuti Gatwa not the Doctor but the tv series Doctor Who is no longer Doctor Who! ROGUE proved that beyond doubt. The Season had been awful up to then but RTD pulled out all the stops in turning the 2500 yr old Alien central character into a 30 yr old horny male human. The series is DEAD but Bad Wold and RTD have not cottoned on on to that fact yet. The ratings were already at an all time low but the affects of this episode won’t be known until Season 2 airs. Just like when the Justice of the Judoon episode aired it got good ratings because fans knew Captain Jack was coming back. It’s in this episode that the rumours of the Timeless Child were all but confirmed. Then every episode from there on in the ratings drop. The Timeless Child got the lowest ratings ever for a finale and up to that point, the lowest ratings for a Whittaker episode. This continued onto Flux and then the so called Specials. Ncuti’s first episode got 4.6 million overnight but then his figures bomb to 2.6 million. He lost 40% from his first episode to his second episode. It then sank down to 2.02 million. I think it was lower. At this point there is no saving Dr Who. The Public don’t speak on why they aren’t watching , they just switch off. We know it’s because the stories are crap and the last two actors have been badly miscast. The only good thing about this DISASTER is that it’s fun to see RTD try and pretend he doesn’t know it’s been a massive failure 😂
i stopped watching after church on the ruby road and totally agree it feels nothing like who, the moment my grandkids seen it, they thought the same as well as there matt smith fans and when they seen shitty they said he's not dr who. So glad i cancelled paying for the bbc as it became clear they where making shows for themselves, not the audience.
@@bobbobby438Yes, it’s not just us older fans that can see it’s pants. The younger generations have also switched off and the new generation of 4-14 year olds have never switched on😢
I had a Betamax machine but didn’t get it until 1984. People forget on how expensive videotape was in the early 80s. Eventually you would get three 180 minute tapes for a tenner but it was more expensive in the early days. That’s why people constantly taped over things rather than build a film library. My earliest memories of Dr Who are Pertwee’s 1971 Season 8. Like Andy, I had vague memories of faceless policemen and a gargoyle coming to life. Scared me but I never had nightmares about the show. I was always excited to see it. It would not be until 25 yrs later that I would find out that these stories were Terror of the Autons and The Daemons. JNT was wrong! My memory had not cheated on me 😂 That was the Power of the show back then. I doubt kids of today will be talking about Sutekh the Giant Dog on a leash in 25 yrs time.
Great memories of a great period. Ironically, the financial reason for people taping over domestic videos is exactly the same as that which resulted in all of those original lost stories!

John Hallam specialised in dangerous temperamental characters. First saw him in the Catherine Cookson TV series The Mallens (a family have a genetic white streak in their hair). There was that temperament at times in his Who role; at others, he was surprisingly vulnerable as Light.
