What an album. The Pink Floyd are one of the greatest of the era.And it was a big era. Some big bands around back then, proper rocknroll.I'm just oldschool.TaranakiHardcore 66-23
Sounds great, all analog, from tape to vinyl, no digital at all. In this album I begin to hear what THE WALL would end up being, superb vinyl sound. AudiPhil great job!
Phil plays with the "Animals" from Pink Floyd On January 21, 1977, Pink Floyd shocked the world with their politically charged tenth studio album "Animals". It was recorded in 1976 at Britannia Row Studios in London and produced by the band itself. The album continues the long-form compositions that made up their previous works. "Animals" is both a progressive rock album and a concept album that deals with socio-political conditions in mid-1970s Britain and represents a departure from the style of earlier works. The musical adaptation of George Orwell's novels such as "1984" and "Animal Farm" addressed corruption and social injustice in 1970s Britain, with pigs, dogs and sheep symbolizing the aristocracy, military and working class, respectively. The album received positive reviews from critics and was commercially successful, reaching #2 in the UK and #3 in the US. It opens with the gentle guitar work of "Pigs On The Wing (Part One)," a short and somber ballad about two apathetic souls lost in a bleak world of "boredom and pain" and fearful of their ruling class - the pigs on the wing. The next song paints a dramatic picture of the "Dogs" and glides through the floaty guitar work of David Gilmour between wide, spacious sections composed by the album's main songwriter, Roger Waters. The lyrics are very evocative, with Gilmour and Waters alternately describing the daily riots in mid-1977 in Great Britain and their reactions in "Dogs". Phrases like "Pick out the easy meat" and "You gotta strike when the moment is right, without thinking" show the immediate call to action. This is all done in a tongue-in-cheek manner that tells them to "get well drunk". It created some tension within the band during production. These climaxed in keyboardist Richard Wright being fired two years later. The cover of the album features an inflatable pig floating between two chimneys of the "Battersea" Power Station. It was conceived by the band's bassist and main songwriter, Roger Waters, and designed by his longtime collaborator Storm Thorgerson. The band did not release any singles from the album, but promoted it through the "In the Flesh" tour. Waters' excitement with the audience during that tour inspired their next album "The Wall". Thank you 🙏 dear Phil for the high quality "Animals" presentation. Looking forward to hear the B side, soon.
I used to have a UK first pressing bought soon after release. That's until several years later when it mysteriously disappeared from my record collection. Many years later my adult daughter, who was a teenager back when the album went AWOL, owned up to the dirty deed. She took it to a party where it disappeared never to be seen again despite her efforts to recover it. I now own the 2016 remaster which sounds pretty good and have no interest in any other versions.
Finished listening to the new 2018 remix a while ago and really liked it, but this is something else! Very nice needledrop. I have the 2011 remaster CD box and have liked it very much.
My first favorite Pink Floyd album. Now I have eight favorites by them.
