Stopped off in NC to see my parents, and Dad and me made a DIY Lawn Striper for his riding lawn mower. This is a much requested video on the channel. Of course, my dad's house is in the mountains, and his lawn is just converted pasture land, so it doesn't show the stripes real well. Dad is a master carpenter, but not a Lawn Care Nut! :)
Here is the link to the video for DIY lawn stripers for walk behind mowers: • Lawn Striping|How To M...

I miss my Dad. Enjoy every minute you get to spend with him.
+hodgesjb I will for sure, and comments like yours on this vid, and others, are really inspiring to me and make me realize how blessed I am.
Me and my father stopped speaking about a year ago ( something I never thought would happen) so yeah cherish the fact you guys get along for sure. What about putting concrete in the tube for more weight , would that help made a better "dominate" stripe ? also if you put a bolt through the brace pipe inside the pvc pipe then filled it with cement it would certainly be solid and never come off. curious what you think as I've never even thought of doing striping until I viewed your video.
Sorry for your loss
I NEVER HAD A DAD!

I miss my dad, 35 years now he’s been gone,,, enjoy every second of your dad, when their gone it’s a big whole in your life no one can ever fill,
Well, wiping away tears in envy of this father-son build. Pretty sweet my friend. You are a lucky man. Oh, and the build was great too!
You're dad is awesome! I'll bet he is really proud of you.
+JohnFrost thanks Brother! I do my best everyday to be the same man that he is.
+The Lawn Care Nut the striper is only for lawn or garden tractors that don't stripe well right?
J
Dylan Chalmers I made one like his for my husqvarna and it really didn't do much better than the mower itself. my mower is a dual blade setup
Edit: I added more weight via making a wooden box on top of the frame and adding a bag of sand. Works awesome now.

Spending time with your Dad creating something fun and putting some rounds down range is lot's of fun! My Dad past a couple of years ago and I have similar memories. It's nice to see you enjoy your time with your Dad as well.
Mowing and then shooting…that’s what America is all about! Love it!!!
Love the pro 2A segment at the end! 👍👍
Never thought I'd miss home but seeing you shooting with your dad sure makes me miss it. Just this year my dad passed down to me one of his rifles. A rifle that I shot many years ago and got my first kill. Dad was so happy for me. A great memory I'll have of my dad for a very long time. Thanks, Allyn for making these videos. God bless!
+AJ B you're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it and got some good thoughts from it too. AL
Warms my heart seeing father and son spending time together like this
I really enjoyed this video. I could see how your Dad could easily become a UA-cam celebrity DIY guy. This reminded me of days I spent with my Dad working on stuff.
this makes me miss my father. he is the reason i love lawn care. building a striper using your design as we speak. thanks!!
I watched your crabgrass video... and I came to the conclusion that I needed to pull out my lawn... so I did. it was almost all crab grass. now seed is down, and I'm hooked on your videos!
Your dad is a Ford guy, good man. Thanks for the video.
+Joseph Downey yes he is. He used to have a GMC but it did not do well pulling his camper as well as it just couldn't handle all the heavy hauling he does. I convinced him the Ford would be much better because during my 15 years at TruGreen, I saw GM products break after 2 years and Fords on the road after 10 like they were brand new. :)
Always cool to watch father and son tackling stuff!!(: I actually watched this months ago n I finally wore my pvc well I used 3” ABS but I had to come back n see how I made it the first time lol I perfected it a smidge and used knock out plugs so it was a lil more flat across the ground. But the table legs has been awsome they worked perfectly!! 👍🏽
I love how you spent time with your dad and document it. This will be the 1st summer without my dad. He would literally beg me to cut my grass because he loved to do yardwork so much. I wouldn't let him because I was to worried about his health. If he was here now I would let him cut all he wanted.
Your Dad and I have so much in common. I'm a retired Carpenter, I also live in the mountains, I have 40 acres and I cut about three and a half acres of that and the rest is Hayfield . Most of my grass is not conducive to striping either but I always wanted to make one. The one you and your Pop made is probably the best idea I have seen yet. I also like to take some time to blow off a few rounds Say hello to the old man for me ,take care . T
I don't even know how many times I've watched this. I'm not sure if I even care about the project. It's just fun watching you and your dad out in the hills having fun. I hope you took time to find a few trout in the stream while you were home.
My dad passed away last year and i miss that guy sooo freaking much it kills. I got my lawn addiction from him and we both dominate our neighbors! I enjoy all your videos but this one was really cool. Thanks.
+Chris Rider thank you my brother! Sorry for the loss of your dad... I know I always try to be cognizant of how fortunate I am to still have him here,,, comments like yours are a solid reminder as well.
Even though I don't have a riding lawn mower, I loved watching this video all the way through. What a fun surprise at the end and I loved the music you used. The NC mountains might not have great lawns, but they sure are beautiful.
I know I'm in the archives here, but your dad seems like a cool dude. That is a beautiful property.
Excellent video I really enjoyed seeing you interacting with your dad. I really miss my Dad he wasn't a lawn care guy at all but I miss that interaction enjoy being with him as long as you can. Glad you haven't abandoned the videos
+Trackhoe075 yes, thank you! I'm always very aware of how fortunate I am to have both my parents still living. Anything good about me came from them. :)
I'm glad you made this video. I was wondering how I could make a striper for my zero turn. I think I could do the exact same as you and your dad. I might just have to leave the bolt a tad bit loose so it can pivot. Genius idea guys thanks
Very informative instructions on how to attach with wire without looking like you don't know what you are doing. If I can say, your dad seems like a really cool dad.
Lol, your Dad made it clear, it ain't happening, no grass seed will be planted. I enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing.
Lawns, cattle and guns, the only thing that would have made this video more perfect would have been to drink a craft and beer. :)
Also, being that I live in Charlotte, I visit the NC mountains quite often. Beautiful country up there. Great video!
Your dad is a treasure.
That's awesome to be working with your dad!!! Some of my favorite projects are when I get to work with mine!! Thanks for the great video!
Man watching your dad instructing you reminded me of when I was a kid in my dads shop learning to do thing old school.
I loved it.
And a really great diy striper idea
Great video
+John Ryan thank Bro! It reminded me of when I was a kid too.
Same here. I used to think my dad was the smartest guy I've ever met!
+Mow's Lawns you have a great dad then! Just like me.
+The Lawn Care Nut thanks al, he was a good man.
+John Ryan ditto!!!.....great video of "father and son" time, and re. the striper for a ride on tractor - PERFECT!!... I've been wanting one of these forever!!...... will get it done very soon. Thanks for your video - you and your Dad seem like best friends!!
As a LCN and a gun enthusiast, I appreciated this video.
+ericplatham thanks Bro! 2 winners right there!
ericplatham why are Americans so obsessed with guns, I am 74 and i have never saw a gun, only thugs gangsters and low life’s in Britain have them.
I dont own a rider mower but still enjoyed this vid. I feel like I got my Lcn fix. I appreciate how you keep in touch with subscribers and find time to post even with your busy schedule. I am a true lcn thanks to your channel, my neighbor just confirmed it ;)
+Josh Sarabia validation is always the best form of flattery! If your neighbors are making comments, then you are def a Lawn Care Nut my brother!
Hahaha you’re a legend. Came here for lawn striper and left with gun shooting’ and cattle watching. Subscribed
Good to see you and your dad do a vid together
"I wouldn't say that on the air" made my day I'm going to make me a striping kit now....
Great video , glad you and your dad can still do cool projects together .
+Frankie Gambino thank you! We both had a great time on this one for sure.
Awesome time spent with Dad!
You have a great dad! Thanks for the video.
Great idea. Great vid. Thanks for posting it. You’re pops and you are a treasure to watch. God bless you both. I gotta say though... I can see that coat hanger twist tie failing or eventually pulling through the hole in the pipe over time from vibration/chafing away at the plastic hole from normal use. I humbly offer a minor improvement idea. Drill a slightly bigger hole in the table legs and run a threaded rod from end to end of the tube that sticks out a wee bit out each end cap. Drill a small exit hole on each end cap, slap a washer and a nylon lock nut on each end and you’re done like dinner! That’ll never fail and hold those end caps on nice and tight. If you ever have a problem or need to top up the sand you just remove the nut and washer, pop the end cap off and fix what ya gotta fix. Cheers from Canada and thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome looks like you two were having a good time
You gave me an idea to install a shade cover on my riding mover. Thanks.
This would so be a project my gramp would have loved. Awesome!
So what I'm hearing you tell us is to go to church...
...and then disassemble all of the folding tables so we can make stripes in our grass, right? ;-)
I thought this was a nice video of a father son project. Reminds me of projects with my dad. Thanks for this.
Great video. Will be making one similar for my JD 72 inch mower. Will use the 3 pt lift to raise and lower it.
Great work! Great video! Love the father and son ingenuity. 👍
Your Dad is such a good teacher! I hope he'll have his own UA-cam channel too... ;)
Enjoyed the video and good to see your dad.
+OTC thanks Bro.
Great video your dad is a awesome DIY guy, enjoyed it very much kind of you to share a family moment while we wait to see you and the new lawn with attached house lol
+ogbobbye thank you! glad you liked it!
Good times with your dad
Great video. Did a really nice time capturing father son time.
+Rich Reed thanks Bro. I'm glad I have this video now to cherish forever! One of the cool parts of UA-cam for sure.
Nice job on the roller but the best part was shooting guns at the end 😅 love it!!! 2A baby!!!!
great dad just like my dad. Dad's are so awesome:)
Cool dad right there! I laughed when he said " If i dont have one, (funnel) I will make one right now. lol
I love this dude... I want to open my own lawn care thing now!!!
you and your dad are just awesome guys, would love to hang out with you guys any day
You have a cool dad there man. What a beautiful piece of property.
Absolutely nothing better than what you've got going on, sir! Good times, Good people, and firearms!! Ooooough weeeee, 'MERICA!!
Picking the rocks out of a tire's tread - I knew then and there that was your dad!
+Paul ha ha, yeah , he does that every time he goes outside. :)
Fine Video work and father and son project. Good to see that it does work till the job is done! You can be proud of it! Richard from Australia Now I wait for my son to come home!
I'm jealous of you dude! You have a real mans beard. I have patches like a bad abandoned lawn 😆😆😆
thanks but mine is all white!
XaViEr3520 I have a huge beard
Allyn, I've seen most of your videos but somehow just now stumbled across this one today and it's probably my favorite. I love country livin'. I live in TN and it's very similar.
it's God's country for sure. I love it there too.
Dude, loved the show!! Neat trick for the kit, cheap but effective.. Git'r done!! And shooting the weapons at the end is solid stuff!! Thanks for the idea.
I finally talked my hubby into letting me mow/care for our lawn..he was paying some guy to do it. I want to make my lawn beautiful like at my old house. So of course, I'm dethatching, aerating and mowing high and often. I am shocked at the $$ of riding mower attachments..I'm trying to rig up my dethatcher to a 'push' lawns sweeper-they're a lot cheaper than the tow ones. I'm liking your striper and plan to make one too.
+JW Pookie You had to talk him into it???
That video makes me wanna do something with my dad! Loved it!
+Trevor Mark thanks brother! Go do it!
awesome video! been waiting on this for a while, will make one this weekend!! thanks...and I live about 2 hours from western North Carolina! I love it here, hope you enjoyed your stay!
+Adam Austin cool, let me know how the striper works! and I always love visiting the mountains, very relaxing there. No phone, no internet.
The Lawn Care Nut will do! I'm sure it will work amazing! Esp once I do all the fall overseeding/ fertilizer etc! I love this time of year.
Lots easy way buy your blades one low profile put this in the center now buy two high profile blades put on left and right side! The center well cut about half inch lower than outside blades.outstanding lawn striping!
Loved this one man, awesome ending
Good idea
Great video and more importantly, memories for a lifetime.
Nice vid bro love the guns, family time and projects. And love the Blue Ridge Mountains area .
+Tennessee Lawn Care yes it's beautiful there! I like Tenn too - always stop at the Tenn wineries off 75 on the way down :)
haha that was fun to watch. Your dad seems like the man. "Ain't gone' happen here" classic lol
Great Stuff and Memories
One day i hope to have land like that.
Wonderful video.
Nice little set up there sir, your pops has got it figured out.
I live in N.C.. So peaceful in the mountains.
Fill the PVC pipe with liquid concrete. Throw a couple pieces of rebar in there as well. What you're trying to do is count for the weight of the tires that the tires make indentation in the lawn.
Coat hanger was a good idea, fun times good memories
A fellow wnc resident thanks you! Lol.
Just found your channel and have been inspired to create my own beautiful (as i say to my wife) kingdom... Thanks for your aw some videos.. By the way I'm on the other end of the state from your Dad in Wilmington...
awesome man.. good job. quality time with a quality man.
I made a similar one last night. I ended up using 1/2" galvanized piping for the frame. this allowed me to use a cap for the inside of the pvc to keep it in place. I mowed last night after it was built (in the dark). I'm thinking there might not be enough weight in the pipe. the stripes weren't as well defines as I expected.
Just found your channel by accident, looking forward to watching your content that I've missed. Subd.
Super! Beautiful country, near where my folks were born/raised. I wonder if the sand alone may not be heavy enough, and when dry might seep out. I'd put a mortar mix in wet and after it sets up would likely be heavier than the sand alone. I plan on doing something similar for my riding mower. I wonder if a rolling tube (vs a dragging tube) would make a difference. Kudos.
Great video! Your are one blessed man! That is some beautiful land as well. Does that creek have an elevation drop somewhere? Fun micro-hydro project!
That was the best mowing and guns
I used concrete, and put aluminum foil around the threaded rod so it can turn after the concrete dried, works like a charm, and I don't have to worry about the concrete falling out, in case the drilled holes were not perfect... I do not recommend sand, that was my first option. It kept falling out. On top of that, the concrete made it a lot heavier which gave me great results. Also I used I bolts on the rod on the end caps instead of drilling in the center of the PVC pipe. And an L piece of metal, pushed the striper against the wheels and cut and when I had about an inch of clearance from rolling backwards, I cut the L shaped brackets to size and now I can roll back and forth with no issues
Like the fun part at the end. I bet the Bull wished he had some ear protection too!
Lovely video mate. Great job
+Uk Lawn Care thanks Brother!
reminds me of me and my dad. My dad can fix anything and even though I am a master electrician when we do projects together my dad tends to run it. lol.
The American dream. Love it
After that they went cow tipping! LOL
Great to meet your father. Nice guy. I guess that was your mother that made a brief appearance at the gun range. Love the stream next to the house. I hope you are moving much closer to where your parents live.
Lmao! That was my wife that made the brief appearance. If she saw this she'd make me ban you from the channel. Ha ha ha!!
+The Lawn Care Nut
OMG! Tell her I'm soooo sorry if she sees this! Don't show her. :-O I only saw her briefly there, and couldn't make out who it was. Maybe I should edit before it's too late!?
+alan30189 nah its cool. she won't see it :) I think it's hilarious!
+The Lawn Care Nut
You can tell your mother though. She might like it. ;-)
+alan30189 see, there is a positive way to look at this after all!
I tried to put a picture with this comment, but couldn't.
I use a semi truck mudflap as a stripper.
The place on the back of the mower where a trailer pin would go, can be turned around. That makes the rear of the mower flat. Cut the mudflap (which is about 3/4" thick) a little more than the width from the outside of the rear tires. Attach the mudflap to the existing holes with bolts with the bottom of the munflap about 1/2" up off of the ground. It will work going forward or backwards. Most truck tire shops will give you a munflap for free. I've had the same one on for 100 hrs. of mowing (2 years)
Looks like you have the best teacher!
agreed. your dad is awesome.an your choice in music is "GREAT"
Well I'm not to far from ya man lol. I live in east Tennessee right on NC border 🤘I been thinking about this for a long time and thought welp I'ma see if anyone else on UA-cam is thinking about this or have done it, and bam yours popped up lol. Great video and I'm gonna give this a try 💪💪
Great video! Love my lawn and love my guns...
Great Tip and love the creek. I like porter cable too. Awesome U and Ur Dad can hang out. New Subscriber n Homeowner

Your Parents remind me of my grandparents (sorry :)) Both good salt of the earth people. Makes me miss life on the farm, even if all I did was brush hog a lot :)
