For every spoiled, ungrateful jerk we see on this show its so cool to see a man like Randy. Humble, grateful, soft spoken and with an obviously good heart. It's easy to root for patients like Randy. Wish him the best.
Steven Assanti has left the chat!!!
I agree wholeheartedly. Just a wonderfully uplifting episode!
What a beautiful young man. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes I because me so attached this this young man...
Now someone like LEE aggravated me to no end.. I was literally yelling at the tv.. idk him personally and don't know if he is really truly that was but if he is .. he better get used to being alone 😮
We don't get enough Randy's...my thoughts my prayers for speedy recovery and drawing near to your God helps keep the faith I hope and pray for him all good things
Dr Now usually asks people to lose just 40 lbs before surgery and they can't. This guy lost 112 before the surgery. Then people will dismiss this amazing accomplishment by saying "Oh you had surgery" as if it takes anything away from the hard work and dedication.
Even after the surgery, regardless of whether a person lost weight before or not, losing weight is an achievement.
You still have to maintain the habits that lose the weight.
I didn't lose anything before my surgery (didn't have to for my doctor and liquid diet was not possible due to going overseas for mine), but I am now officially 50 kgs down in less than 5 months. That's made EASIER by the surgery, but I still did the work.
@@FORGOTTENMINDFREAK23 I am morbidly obese (5ft7, weight unknown because I couldn't cope with the number on the scale) trying to lose weight now. I had lost 20 kgs before - and gained it back. Anyway you lose weight is a major achievement. I know how tough it is.
I see people "naturally" slim and a lot of them don't care about food, don't have a sweet tooth so for them it's easy to say JUST eat less. There's no "just" about it.
Congrats on your 50kgs. I hope next year I can report same.
@@FutureCommentary1 hear hear! I hope that for you as well.
@@FORGOTTENMINDFREAK23 The surgery did the work. You could have made things worse. For your sake, I am pleased that you learned to eat like a responsible adult.
This man is facing life and death consequences. The last thing on his mind is people gossiping about his weight loss journey.
Randy is the one patient on this show who pushed himself so hard to get surgery that he became malnourished. I appreciate his dedication, but being dizzy from hunger is zero fun. I hope he can balance his health. ❤
Well this was after surgery. Make sense he lost apettite after nit before.
He's 500 lb he can't be malnutritious his fat is storing so many vitamins and minerals the body will use that
@@Rocket9944 >his fat is storing vitamins and minerals
wut? lmao
@@Rocket9944Anyone can be malnourished regardless of the size. It does not matter if the foods are calorie dense, if the food not nutrient dense, this could lead to malnutrition
@@Rocket9944 explain then why they kept him in the hospital. his body was beginning to fail because of malnutrition, the video literally says that.
Dr. Now was probably bewildered by the fact he had to tell one of his patients to eat more instead of less
Crazy but respect to the guy for trying. All the other ppl just couldn’t ‘stop’ eating lol
lol ya i wouldn't be suprised if that was a first for the doc
This is the first time I’ve heard doctor now say slow down . But he was causing his body harm and putting lots of stress on his body. I’m glad he’s still trying ❤
Mad respect.for doctor and his patient
He actually told Christina Phillips in her Where Are They Now update to gain 15 lbs because she was 10 lbs underweight and only eating 400-450 cals per day. Having a healthy body is the most important thing.
It can be really hard to understand healthy eating when you’ve never experienced it before. I started working out regularly at age 30 and it took that for me to realize that I chronically under-eat. I’m proud of him, food addiction is the hardest to overcome (in my opinion) because it’s the only substance you need to survive. You can cut out alcohol/drugs completely and be healthier for it, but not food.
finding that balance is the hardest thing i've ever done. it seems like he's on the right track. mad props.
Yeah you can let a healthy diet slip into an obsession and eating disorder if you let it
@@GeoffreyBronson very true. it's also quite common to swap one eating disorder for another! that's what i did before i entered real recovery.
@@skrittle555exactly what i did went from eating so much to not eating at all

When Dr. Now says he's proud of you… That is like Paul Hollywood shaking your hand at the British bake off!
Yes 👏 yes this is so true 💜💜💜
As someone who has lost over 70 pounds in the last few months, I fully get it that you get in a mindset of constant weight loss. One of the hardest things I deal with now is not losing too much weight. I started at 265 now I’m in the 190s
That’s amazing progress! You can do it, you just gotta be patient and take one day at a time.
@@missagente8100 thank you
I'm male 6'2, pretty thin and have been between 190-200 for most of my adult years. 190 is good if you're male and tall
@@OffGridInvestor I’m 5’9, 5’10 on a good day lol. I like my current weight. I fluctuate between 195-192

This guy inspires me as a recently diagnosed diabetic woman. If he can lose weight so can I.
Edit: Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I'm down from 201 to 185 lbs.
Yes, you can. Best wishes. ❤
Rooting for you❤
It's not that hard eat less move more.
Don’t stay sedentary if you can ❤
You can do it
Seeing him working at the store and running around was awesome! He's the patient doctors dream of lol the independence he gained was so rewarding to see
People like Randy warm my heart. Beautiful family. I wish I could find full episodes to watch.
Hulu and paramount+
All 11 seasons are on HBO MAX too
Great job Randy
I feel for him. It's bad enough to be so overweight, but then to go in the total other direction, must be frustrating. Hopefully he works well with medical support because the last thing you want is to go through multiple types of disordered eating!
el medio de tus dedos
I understand wanting to lose weight but not to starve yourself. Its how I originally started when I wanted to loose weight. I starved myself for weeks and just drink water thinking, "My muscles can eat all that excessive i have to maintain energy"
Until one day i passed out and was out for three days. My doctor told me the same thing Dr. Now told Randy. Took me that to understand that i was literally pushing myself too hard. Thankfully today I'm the healthiest i can be 😊
Lose! Not loose! Loose is the opposite of tight lose is the opposite of gain learn to spell!

@@midnight_x_editsits a simple typo, the deranged outburst was not necessary🤡im certain you can find attention some other way

I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in 2002, and it has definitely truly saved my life, but I COMPLETELY ENTIRELY lost my appetite for TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT! Complete loss of appetite is real. Thankfully it doesn’t last forever, but it was the most difficult non-physical adjustment I ever had to work through! Still down about 170 pounds after over two decades! Randy just simply inspires me all over gain! 👍
The problem was he wasn’t getting and sort of vitamins or nutrients in. If he had at least been having a protein shake each day (can just have a mouthful each hour) with added minerals and vitamins in it then he likely would have been ok.
You can completely skip meals for days or weeks when you are this size, but if you don’t take in enough vitamins and minerals then you will end up with re-feeding syndrome or with muscle wasting if you aren’t also exercising.
This man deserves the world. What a lovely guy.
I wish all patients had an attitude like Randy! God speed to you, Randy.
His daughter is adorable. I'm so happy he's succeeding and adding many years onto his life that he can enjoy with his daughter.
this is one of the most wholesome episodes ever. I wish him the best
Amen
What a sweet man. I am so happy for him and all he is accomplishing.
Sweet cuddle bear. What a pure heart. Soft spoken angel wishing him the very best.!
i felt so proud of him at the end! him making food for his family was so sweet :)
Almost everyone on this show gets lectured from Dr Now for gaining too much weight. This might be the first time ever Dr Now had to lecture someone for losing too much weight. I don't watch this show that much so I could be totally wrong though. While I know it is a bad thing that he was losing too much weight quickly, he should be proud that his problem is no longer having to resist eating too much food
In one episode (I think this was a "where are they now segment), Dr. Now had to tell a women that she needed to start eating more as she was becoming underweight.
Hell yes! You are doing amazing! I’m so proud of you for taking charge of your health without pushing into extremes! You look so much more alive through the new, healthy diet, keep going!
He’s really exhibiting some disordered eating signs. It’s hard to recover from any type of eating disorder because you have to eat, but it’s finding finesse in your eating. He’s making good strides, he’ll make it :)
From one extreme disordered eating to another extreme, both are so common unfortunately
@@arianaGG126Try Weed. You shouldn't be thinking about calories, because your body knows how much too eat. That's why you feel hungry and full.
But since an eating disorder is always a symptom of a desease, not the desease itself, I recommend psychotherapy. You seem to have lost the connection to yourself. If you can regain that, you will be able to trust your gut again.
Imo binge eaters / anorexics have a lot in common with hoarders. Both are destroying themselves, making it a gruesome sight for everyone else. Yet when you confront them about it, they refuse to let go of their "control" they believe to exercise. They want to have a say. They need something to manage. Yet all they are "managing" is their own doom. They don't see the problem anymore. And all that comes from underlying trauma, after which the person will shut down, dismiss real life and instead focus on abritrary things like hoarding or being obessive about food. These people lost all sense of control and try to regain it by controlling things, that should not be controlled / can not be controlled.
My heart is with you, get help.
@@arianaGG126Or you try LSD or shrooms. I have done microdosing quite a few times, it improves the neuroplasticity of the brain (you can change more easily, you can learn more easily).
There's really a lot of information on the internet that helps.
"Some disordered eating signs" the man was on my 600lb life.
I’m crying, I feel his pain and I feel so bad for him. I have been starving myself to the point of malnourishment but add alcohol addiction on top of that. I feel guilty and scared after I eat. He is so brave and I am proud of this man for trying his best to better himself even tho he unfortunately went thru that malnutrition in the process. U could see such sadness and concern for himself with his expressions. I hope he reaches all his goals and lives a happy, healthy life. What a lovely, handsome man. You got this Randy!
Weed might just help you forget your inhibitions. Food is awesome when you're high. I'm a very skinny Dude myself, but unlike you I don't eat consciously. I get hungry, I eat. When I get high, I get so hungry that I eat without a second thought.
Not sure what your root cause is, but I know it can be a long way to change that. There was a time when I was super conscious about food too. That was when I worked in galvanics and the heavy metals fucked up my gastrointestinal tract. I had no appetite and food felt like boulders in my stomach.
Maybe you should go to therapy. I remember these months to be the worst of my life, and I've been trough other shit. Not being able to mantain energy through eating and digestions was terrifying. I was in abdominal cramps and exhausted all the time. The low blood sugar robbed me of all powers and joy. Then I became depressed.
It took me quitting this hellish job and 6 months staying away from any heavy metals to regain my appetite and a normally funtioning gastrointestinal-tract. I bet that your alcohol consumption and eating habits already have left a dent, which makes it hard to get back to a normal state.
Try weed, psychedelics and psychotherapy before you waste your life or do anything regrettable.
I'm so sorry to hear you're fighting alcohol addiction on top of struggling with your food intake. I lost my mom to alcoholism in 2021 and am a recovering alcoholic myself, and my mother was incredibly malnourished when she passed. Please make sure to eat something each day, even if it's a small meal. Trust me, it's better than nothing.
I also struggled with my alcoholism much worse after I had gastric bypass. I went from one addiction to another, I struggle with eating enough these days (on Saxenda now after going back up to 220 lbs) and have been sober for some time now. I do use weed when the nausea keeps me from eating enough.
@@devanov3103 "Dude just replace your alcohol dependency with some other substance, it'll be fine!"
Great advice.
@@ChrisRedfieldsbloodline I also don't think substance use is usually a good thing, but I have a friend who was very underweight and struggled with eating and cannabis really did help her. I wish there was a better solution, but this has had the least side-effects and her health has improved a lot. I've also seen cannabis destroy the lives of family and acquaintances, so it's not an easy answer. Weed would at least be better on the liver, too. Sometimes there's not a good solution. Ideally, if the OP could see a doctor and therapist and get it prescribed or something then it would at least be given in a supervised and well-advised way.
I'm glad they're showing this side of the weight loss journey as well. I've struggled with binge eating disorder trying to lose weight... which just complicates things. Keep it up Randy, I've been there! You got this!!
This young man has a wonderful attitude. Such an inspiration. He is such a good guy, repaying his family for their goodness ❤❤❤
Hope he stays on the right track so happy to see him able to spend more time with his beautiful daughter he loves her so much ❤
Dr Now is the only doctor I've seen who genuinely cares if his patients are overdoing weight loss. I've suffered with eating disorders for about 6 years now and I've seen first hand how hard it is for anyone who isn't a skinny teenage white girl to receive treatment for their eating disorders. Most doctors would be praising Randy and encouraging him to continue what he's doing, potentially pushing him into fully trading BED for anorexia. Replacing one eating disorder with another is not recovery and Dr Now understands that
What's makes you say that ? Have you had a bad experience with doctors?
@@Dropletsojoy I believe it. I have a male cousin who suffered from anorexia and nobody believed him because he was a boy. Good news is he is much better now living a healthy balanced lifestyle with a successful career and a wife and child.

Dr's typically ask patients to lose 10 % of their weight before bypass surgery. I had gastric bypass in 2009. Not having an appetite is not unusual. I never feel hunger. So I can understand where he is at.
Seems like a nice young man with a decent and supportive family. How did he ever get to be this weight!?!
Eating disorders mixed with emotional problems and/or hormone issues can be a bitch
I'm so happy for him and I wish him and his family the very best!
Its so great he gets to be a father again. Shes young enough that he'll be able to build real memories with her. Congrats!
I had gastric bypass ten years ago. I lost the desired weight but also lost another 35 pounds which ended making me seriously looking malnourished. I am 5 ft, 9 and was down to 125 pounds luckily I was able to balance everything out
I’m also 5’9”, 120 lb, but you as a man, 125 is seriously seriously skinny.
That's the shittiest thing in their situation. keeping their weight can kill them but... losing weight also has its share of threat. A rock and a hard place.
so very proud of you randy keep goin!!!!!! it will only get better and better!!!!! god bless!

Don't give up Randy! I feel your pain and I can relate. Finding that balance is scary to me too. It's easier to flip the mental switch and cut off the food and its easy to flip the switch the other way and indulge, but finding the balance scares the heck out of me because I also worry that my will power isn't going to be strong enough to eat healthy. With drinking or drugs, you just quit. Can't do that with foo. I'm pulling for you dude, much love.

Randy seems so wholesome and nice. Also appreciative of what his family did for him since he said he was so happy he could finally make food for them and do something in return. Shows that it was constantly on his mind
When you're trying to lose weight, you can't try too hard, it's not good for you. I did that in high school, where I went for a couple of days without eating and I was totally skin and bone and I came close to getting really sick 🤢 Now I'm trying to lose weight by working out every day and not eating a lot. Just don't do too much like me, it's not good for you, it's not good for your muscles and your body and it can make you really sick 🤢 Bottom line here is be careful and don't overdo it.
