There's something very wrong about a 26 year old man lying around naked at his momma's house, and defecating on himself in public. No matter how big or immobile he is. The mom definitely enabled this.
I can't even fathom it and where I come from, we feed peopIe as a way to show love, like c'mon over for a good home cooked meal. But not Iike that, we are normaI, average sized peopIe who eat to Iive, not Iive to eat. I have 2 sons of normal weight, Idk how anyone could possibly think that's Iove to feed your son to an early grave. I think he was doomed from the get go with her as a mother. I hope he is at peace now.
Even if he had the mobility to reach it, I don't think he could find the spot to wipe among that absolute mass of nonsense he's got going on back there.
His Mother did this to him. She taught him no social skills she kept him trapped in a bed so she would not be alone. You can tell that his behavior is childlike . This is one of the saddest stories

To be fair, 800 calories IS a bit extreme in a vacuum. I'm 5'8 and weigh 112 pounds and even I eat WAY more than 800 calories a day (I eat about 1600 calories a day). Here's the thing though: Sean's situation is extreme! He's so large that he's obviously not going to starve to death by going on this kind of diet
@@juansanchez209Dr now logic is that he has fat reserve that his body can tap into. He wouldn't die, because his body has enough fat storage for years to covert to energy
I know, right? With the quantity of junk this young man consumes, how could he ever be hungry? He can't move. Mum needs to say NO, I'm not bringing you junk any more. She, however, is morbidly obese too, so she apparently has no control over her food consumption either. Feeding her son is killing him. It's abuse all the way.
I know a woman like Sean's mother. She started force feeding her son as a toddler. When he said he was full she would make him eat more. He now weighs 500lbs at 25 years old. Dad died at 40 of a heart attack and couldn't leave the house due to obesity. Mom lost a leg due to diabetes caused by obesity. She doesn't see anything wrong with the situation.
Same, at 5'6 my heart couldn't handle my then 200 pound frame... when tour body makes you lose weight and you change nothing it couldn't handle what you were carrying - I have no idea how you get to 919
Did a little math. The average male 20 and older is 200-ish pounds. Lets use pork for this example as its the closest similarity. In 200 pounds of pork whole, loin, or broiled there is around 219,859 calories. Considering he weighs 900 pounds that means he has 989,364 calories. I got stuck here, as at his weight he could last 8-12 weeks before fatal starvation, but the longest recorded time for not eating is 385 days. Balancing somewhere between there and a recommended caloric intake, its not likely he could survive for months to a year before needing to eat again.
@@gordontheseal You are comparing apples to oranges, pigs are a lot more muscular than they might seem, I would assume that he has at absolute minimum 600 pounds of fat on him, and that's ignoring the rest. A pound of body fat is around 3500Kcal. So 600x3500= 2.100.000Kcal. He could definitely had lived 18 months on water and supplements alone. Also you are basing his caloric needs on his heaviest weight, but they are directly correlated, so as he would lose weight, the rate of weight loss would decrease.
This was the saddest episode of my 600lb life. He had no life. His food addiction was real. His mom was sick in the head. A leg injury at 16 kept him in bed for over a decade and everyone in his life thought it was ok? This episode made me cry. R.i.p. Sean❤
Yes this was the saddest episode I saw on that show as well. He never even had the chance to experience anything life had to offer. And then when when his mother suddenly died he was expected to be normal, when the only example he had to go by was an absent father and a messed up mother who never had his best interests at heart
Yea he was doing great when his mom wasn’t there but his mom controls and manipulates her son to want to be dependent on her and that’s sick. Idk why they didn’t keep her away maybe they legally can’t

800 calories is ridiculous though. If he was eating 30,000 calories a day like they said, he could go down to 20,00 and lose weight. As time goes on he should lessen it even more and eventually get to the standard 2,000 a day but asking someone to go from 30,000 down to 800 the next day is going to lead to failure and it did, he's dead now.
She doesn't want him to get well, and she's programmed his mind enough to where he truly doesn't want to either. She always wants him to be there and to control him.
@user-mk5rs2kc8c the fast food hack. Just get the hamburger (etc). Like you said, if one just ate a Big Mac, fries, and very light snacks daily (co-current with good exercise) they’ll likely lose weight. For the typical thin person who gained weight (like me once) it’s more due to overeating.
@user-mk5rs2kc8cSeen you the only one who said so far burger and fries are healthy food, even if consumes less or not..a single veg and other may be healthy but the way they made seems not healthy,
They use "800 calorie diet" because they realize he will never actually do 800 calories a day. Maybe 4,000 calories if he has huge motivation. If they gave him a 3,000 calorie diet, he would probably still eat 9,000+...
Do they give the family any type of education or resources to the nutritionist? It's concerning that he said he didn't even know how many calories are in food. It's still 100% their fault buy maybe they really just didn't understand what to do in real time.
Did your mom force feed you? No she didn't, because you wouldn't have eaten more than you needed in the first place. This mother and her kid had some serious mental issues going on because this doesn't happen in a normal home.
Yeah, she did force him. She’s been over feeding him since he was an infant, and conditioned him to become an addict before he even started school. I doubt if a mum gave her child drugs each day, that you’d be saying “nobody forced him” if he was a cocaine addict as an adult
Being that big at only 26 is astounding. It’s a shame he passed away so young too. His mother is to blame for his fate. He had his whole life ahead him.
For those wondering, Sean and his mother Renee have both passed. Renee died in 2017 from kidney failure. It apparently has made Sean go back to his old habits despite losing 400lbs. Sean died in 2019 from an infection at only 29 years old.
Without this show and Dr. Now's intervention at that time she would've literally fed him to oblivion. Cause if he would've made it to 1,000 lbs, his heart would've gave out.
@@seanbrummfield448 He did make to 1000 at one point. There is no set limit when his body would give out, it doesn't work that way. It could give out at any time at a lower weight, or it could take more than 1000 pounds. That said, it's a miracle he made it as far as he did.
I'm in disbelief. This grown man used his fingers to check himself and then told his mom that he had an accident. Then she wiped him as if he were a toddler.
I am totally repulsed. This is not a healthy relationship. He acts like he is 2 yrs old. If mommy keeps him fat then he will never leave her. I really think that is what she wants.

Truth be told during the holidays it went up and down in the 360s, but I never gave up. Still got a long way to go. I eat only 2 meals a day, sometimes have a snack in the morning so I don't starve myself. I also go on my walks 3-5 days a week. (Unless it's really cold or bad weather.) I also limit bread and pasta (I don't usually eat much of them.) I drink water and carbonated water, a small soda once in a while (no diet crap.) Also went from a size 11 to a size 10 shoe. Update 7/8/24: It's been a while since I last checked in. But I am happy to say that I have officially lost 50 lbs. I am still doing my walks, drinking plenty of water, and not eating a lot of crap. I have had some days where I have ended up eating a chocolate bar (a small one, but still.) Regardless I still keep up with my exercises and only eat two meals a day with a small snack in the morning if I'm hungry. Treatment for something this bad should be dealt with the same way as rehab. In a facility away from home for at least a few months, full of doctors and therapists, a very strict schedule, and VERY minimal contact with family- particularly the ones who are known to bring them the food that's killing them. This is just so sad
That wouldn't work, soon as they get out they would go right back to their old habits and resume their monstrous form. Thats why Dr Now makes them lose an initial amount of weight before getting the surgery. The early seasons he didnt do that and most relapsed. Its a complete waste of resources on people that wont utilize it
Thing is, rehabs aren't that effective. The relapse rate is pretty high, so if you can't get someone in the right headspace at home, anything they do outside of it won't stick anyway.
The mom was evil. Kept this man in a childlike state his whole life, overfed him to the point of life threatening obesity, had him completely dependent on her his whole life, and then she died and left him to flounder and ultimately die himself
Shes the prime example of munchausen syndrome. After her husband left her she treated her son like an emotional support animal. At one point he weighed over 1,000lbs and she was arguing the diet wasn't fair. After she died in the "where are they now episode " he was just completely lost and gave up.
Yes the mom may have been an enabler, but its no one else’s fault but your own if you weight 900 freaking pounds. Wake up people!! Sean did this to himself not the mom
@@RawwRex His mom killed him. Dude had one parent in this world and he got stuck with a woman who basically forced fed him until he died. Yes, he kept eating, but his mom created and maintained the environment for him to die.

Maybe so, but he's still a human being and he needs a lot of help. What if you were in a situation where you couldn't do anything for yourself. Doesn't have to be obesity but what if you got in a car wreck and you were completely paralyzed and everybody had to do everything for you. What if you couldn't bathe or do anything for yourself. She also was afraid to be alone so kept him in that condition and I truly think she wanted him to stay super obese that way he wouldn't ever have a reason to leave.
I'm not a psychologist, but after seeing this he developed Peter Pan syndrome, like even after his mother died he refused to take responsibility for his weight gain and he still couldn't take care of himself
Dr Now is usually no nonsense, not as gentle as this. I think he handed Sean like porcelain bc he could see the sick and abusive relationship Sean and his mum had…it’s just so awful
How could he not? He knows that the success rate is only 5% and this kid is only 26 years old. But even worse, he knows that the kid's mother is complicit in causing this illness, yet he can't call the cops on her. I can't imagine the hopelessness that he felt in this particular moment, but from his facial expression and tone, the compassion and empathy are infectious.
I feel bad for Sean. With a mother like that, he never had a chance. She reared him to be incapable of making the decisions necessary to save his own life.

My aunt was very overweight. The rest of the family had given up as they believed that she was taking over their lives. I dropped out of college for 2 years to help. Breakfast; one slice of bread, hot beverage of her choice, half of a fruit, greens and tomatoes, one boiled egg and lots of water. First morning she threw it on the floor, it stayed there until she could clean it up. Dinner; a small salad, stew chicken, vegetables, lots of water. Nightcap. A cup of coffee. I got a huge tub by her bed, and she had to wash herself as best as she could. We fashioned a pulley over her bed, so she could pull herself onto the '''potty chair'' It has a hole in the middle, she '''walked''' herself to the toilet, then positioned the chair over the toilet. She had to wipe her own behind as well. I wanted her to know, that she had to be on her way to independence. She wanted a dog, I told her that until she could walk a dog, she had to be satisfied with the cat. I would not be taking on that added duty; besides I was doing a couple courses on-line to keep up. She got the message real fast, that this was her last chance. She lost 320 pounds during and is still losing.
When you need a compass and map to find your own ass, it's probably necessary to do a checkie/smellie. I mean my ass is a defined part of my body, and I always know where it is, while in his case it's just a little hole in the middle of an ocean of skin and fat he can't reach. He's just all "body".
Dr Phil always says a form of child abuse is a parent that does not teach a child basic life skills that teach them how to be a full functioning independent adult that can make their own decisions and take care of themselves. This is the worse form of overmothering that I have ever seen.
I don't like Dr. Phil, but that's correct. The parent is actually more reliant on the child. The parent keeps the child at home and dependent on the parent by not teaching them life skills - just so that they have companionship. It's horrible. Eventually, the parent dies and leaves their child alone and in a world that their child has no clue how to navigate. Since they've been in the house most of their lives, they have no friends or support system. All they had was their mom. This episode makes me so sad. I can't even watch it again.
I don't fully agree with that because we have a choice to pursue knowledge ourselves. Parents sometimes fail because they also lack knowledge regarding parenting because no one is born a parent. But it doesnt have to end there we can also learn how to develop independence without their help through reading several books per month, discipline and commitment. We live in a world with easy access to information. Resources are readily available. It's easier to pass blame on someone instead of taking responsibility and accountability for it. Sean was the driver of his own life. He made choices that led him to his death. If he sought after a way out perhaps he could have found an escape. But for many years he was comfortable. I don't know the entire situation or know his temperament towards his mother. I'm not sure if he threw tantrums to get what he wanted from her.
@@ricarleitehave some respect and compassion. It’s not his fault the mother didn’t raise him to be a man. She raised him to be her companion and she made sure he could never leave.
Ultimately, Sean’s story was very sad. He was so utterly dependent on his mother that he really had no hope to begin with. Then when she passed away, he just gave up.
Dude is over 900lbs and pooping himself in public but still eating horribly and mom condones it. Do these people have no shame at all? Honestly insanely ridiculous
What I want to know is HOW can someone who sits/lays around all day eating and nothing else has the muscle mass to stand up from a seated position with 900 +lbs packed on to their frame?
She never read the diet sheet Dr Now gave her, not for a second. And unfortunately, Sean did not have "only one burger a day" as an 'extra' on his 'diet' - if that really was the only 'indulgence' he was having, even on a daily basis, he would STILL have lost weight. Not as much, but definitely some - and he absolutely would NOT have GAINED weight.
If he’s hungry…” Let me stop you right there. He’s not hungry, he’s depressed. He’s eating to satisfy an emotional need, not a physical one, and nobody looking at him would rationally think that he’s being deprived of food unnecessarily. Something tells me she needs just as much therapy as he does
He expired in 2019, age 29. And I can tell you from firsthand experience, a bullet to the brain is far more merciful than "living" in Sean's condition. My son lost his life when a gun misfired. He was only 31, not the least bit overweight, healthy, strong, loved his life, loved his chosen careers(animal rehabilatator for a wildlife rescue center and a tattoo artist). The only consolation at the time was that his death was instantaneous, and he didn't suffer at all. Much better than being bedbound for most of one's life, totally dependent on someone else for all physical needs to be met.
I wouldn't even say once a month of low-end franchise fast food is healthy for an adult that doesn't routinely work out. The calorie intake is too high.
seeing him cry while doing nothing is actually really heartbreaking . he was literally sitting not moving a single muscle and still is in pain do u know how unbearable that must be ?
His threshold for pain is different than a normal persons. What he is calling pain is what you and I would describe as a minor ache or being slightly uncomfortable.
Oh its absolutely horrible. The amount of pressure that's constantly on his body must be so painful. It's so sad it got to this point. This is way past the "normal" level of obesity. I honestly don't know how he survived as long as he did at this weight. Sad to hear he did pass, this was ultimately preventable

@@Balletified this is crazy. I just did the math, and to eat 15,000 calories a day would equal 50 cheeseburgers from McDonald’s (each being 300 calories) and the cost of that would be around $139. I don’t know how these people afford that
What drives me absolutely crazy is the obvious lying. It's so obvious that they are lying on this show. The torment you are in when you are stuck in food addiction to this extreme is tremendous. It seems easy to us but it is near impossible for these people. A bunch of people successfully complete the program Dr Now prescribes to them. The black dude with the pony tail (forget his name) did unbelievably well and didn’t complain. It’s not like hero!n or something where they or need methadon and it sucks beyond belief and you have sleepless nights etc. The point is do 9 out of 10 meals the Dr Now way and sneak in cheat meals, just not like these people do. This guy Sean and his ding dong mom probably didn’t even attempt to follow diet. There is 2 common factors in each one. An enabler and the actual persons selfishness/ constant over eating and snacking even when told their life is on the line … this dude in particular is horrifically maladapted. The mom is one of the worst enablers I’ve seen on the show. When the cameras aren’t there she’s like “The Doctor Doesn’t know what he’s talking about 🥴” and then in front of him she’s like “we’re trying 😥”.
@@citomakaveezlyexcept it is like hero!ne. When you have a food addiction, eating produces the same chemical reaction in your brain as drugs and alcohol, where doing it makes you feel great and after you feel awful so you keep chasing that feeling cuz you don’t want to feel awful, even though it’s temporary and is harming you. No, you won’t get the DTs from not eating but you can have other complications. It’s no different than any other addiction. Addicts of drug, alcohol, smoking, gambling all have the exact same excuses and warped rationale to convince others and themselves that what they are doing is fine, even when all evidence proves it very much is not. It takes more than a diet, it takes counselling, understanding where the issue started, what the triggers are and creating healthy alternatives to deal with the triggers, emotions and anxieties. That is how you are successful at recovering. It is not purely physical. The same goes for any eating disorder. I agree his mom is a terrible enabler and she needs the same counselling and education so she can be a better caregiver and advocate for her son. Addiction encompasses a lot of points including environment. It’s harder to stop if the people around you are pushing you to do the harmful behaviour or are giving in to you all the time, even just being around people who are overly critical and cruel about it can make it worse. No one wants to end up like he is, not even him. But I understand the pure hopelessness of everything seeming so overwhelming and feelings of what is the point and just wanting to shut down and shut out the world. It takes strength, compassion, patience and kindness from everyone involved. It is not an easy fix. You don’t get that way over night, you won’t fix it over night. Personally I don’t feel he should have been sent home the first time. It was clear he was not going to get the support and routine he needed at home with his mom at that point. He needed to in a place that monitored his intake and provided counselling and physical therapy to help him move with people who are not emotionally invested and are medically objective. No everyone can do it on their own. I would say in fact most people can’t do it on their own.
if this dude stopped eating right at the filming of this, he would probably have lasted months if not a whole damn year with basically no food and just water + vitamins. absolutely mind boggling.
Damn if he’s 919 lbs at 26 then he was averaging 35.2 lbs of weight gain per year since birth. That’s unbelievable. I’m surprised he didn’t die before 20 years old.

Not to mention, my family was a big help in all of this. It sickens me that someone would let their child eat that much. (And I hope you guys know that it was my choice to eat the way I used to eat, and that's why I gained the weight. My parents always told me not to eat that much, but I didn't listen and I paid the consequences for it. Remember, the first step to losing weight is to take accountability. Don't blame anyone else for why you gained weight.) Update: I'm now 16 and have been maintaining a weight of 175. I got a gym membership last month, and life has been good

No, he absolutely does not. Sean could be hungry for 18 months straight and not need any food.

Dr Phil isn't a licensed doctor
Do not forget the infamous Steven "royal highness the blob" ASSanti.

Should’ve stopped fast food all together at that weight, he’s had enough fast food for a lifetime
I eat 1 fast food meal and I'm full for an entire day.
IF he had really eaten only one burger a day, he should still have lost a lot of weight. The denial is real.
I wouldn't even say once a month of low-end franchise fast food is healthy for an adult that doesn't routinely work out. The calorie intake is too high.

What drives me absolutely crazy is the obvious lying. It's so obvious that they are lying on this show. I mean, they don't even look like they believe the bull shit coming out of their mouth when they're saying it. Dr. Now is an angel. He is the epitome of patience and no nonsense in equal doses. I certainly couldn't do his job. The only reason he can do it so well is his genuine compassion. You would have to have above average compassion for people, or you would give up on people who are so infuriating and dishonest. He has saved so many people that he probably can't even count them all at this point. ❤
I love how straightforward he is
@@Alotta21 Same. I really like people who are straightforward and honest with me. It immediately puts me at ease.
The torment you are in when you are stuck in food addiction to this extreme is tremendous. It seems easy to us but it is near impossible for these people. We need to not make fun of them or think badly. They are struggling and can’t get out. Him joining this program is already a huge step and it has to be very scary
He passed away unfortunately
Thank 👏 you 👏
You think that helps anyone?
They don't FEEL COMFORTABLE putting him on 800 calorie diet?! What, they think he's gonna starve??
I'm baffled that they think a medical doctor who specializes in this would give bad advice

I'm 5'0, so imagine almost 200 pounds on a short girl. This summer, I was so sick of being fat but didn't do anything about it until this July when I threw up from overeating. That's when I knew I had to change something or I was going to end up on this show. I didn't want to live like that, so I started eating healthier and exercising. In under 3 weeks, I lost 15 pounds and now weigh 180. I'm now going into my sophomore year and going to try to get back into sports and get to my goal of 170.
