Sometimes i think Dr. NOW is depressed and doesnt take the necesary measures to act. It was clear this guy had to be hospitalized from day 1 and the mom needed to go to a psychiatrist to get help.
Dr N CANNOT solve the mind if these people. Until THEY want to do it, he can’t hold their hand to do it. They have to want to do it more than he does.
Doctor need to hire David goggins
So whatever happened to Sean, it doesn't tell us
@@mariellarojas8562 The Doctor is nobody's babysitter. People have to do their part and take responsibility.
How can you let your own child get too 900 lbs and then complain you don't want him on a low-calorie diet. Absolutely unbelievable and tragic.
Ya know, whever I make a comment similar to yours I too get very few people to agree with me. That's because the world is getting SO soft. People are getting so weak and whiny, touchy-feely and don't want to face reality. The reality to this story is Sean's Mom KILLED her own son. You hit the nail right on the head Louise.
“If he’s hungry…” Let me stop you right there. He’s not hungry, he’s depressed. He’s eating to satisfy an emotional need, not a physical one, and nobody looking at him would rationally think that he’s being deprived of food unnecessarily. Something tells me she needs just as much therapy as he does.
What's tragic is that this thing is alive and stealing resources.
He's a grown man not a child
He's an adult, not a child.
He thinks 800 cal diet is extreme...you know what's extreme? Weighing 900 pounds.
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
Death is also extreme!
To be fair, 800 calories IS a bit extreme in a vacuum. I'm 5'8 and weigh 112 pounds and even I eat WAY more than 800 calories a day (I eat about 1600 calories a day). Here's the thing though: Sean's situation is extreme! He's so large that he's obviously not going to starve to death by going on this kind of diet
@@juansanchez209Dr now logic is that he has fat reserve that his body can tap into. He wouldn't die, because his body has enough fat storage for years to covert to energy
I said that same thing while watching! "Well your weight is extreme bud" 😂 wth did he think
Why do people bother seeing a doctor when they completely ignore their advice?
The royalty checks from being on the show
Folks want to know what’s wrong but aren’t prepared to make a change. It’s no different than the person that weighs 200 lbs. and has high blood pressure but refuses to change their diet and lifestyle.
They want to hear there's nothing they can do, unfortunately a lot of doctors do so to make easy money
They have simple mind and probably they really think that doctor is magician and will give them special pills, will make an appointment to do a surgery and voila! MDs will do everything and they will be able to still do nothing. And of course have the same habits and eat the same amount of food. Will be bad again? They'll come back later ^^
So they can blame somebody else...
She said he’s eating good healthy food. She fed him cheeseburgers and fries. The mind boggles
Look at her… she herself doesn’t understand diet or nutrition, so how can she possibly make good choices for another person?
She doesn't want him to get well, and she's programmed his mind enough to where he truly doesn't want to either. She always wants him to be there and to control him.
Cheeseburgers and fries are plenty healthy, but not when you eat 15,000 cal worth of them a day
@@user-mk5rs2kc8c the fast food hack. Just get the hamburger (etc). Like you said, if one just ate a Big Mac, fries, and very light snacks daily (co-current with good exercise) they’ll likely lose weight. For the typical thin person who gained weight (like me once) it’s more due to overeating.

First morning she threw it on the floor, it stayed there until she could clean it up. Dinner; a small salad, stew chicken, vegetables, lots of water. Nightcap. A cup of coffee. I got a huge tub by her bed, and she had to wash herself as best as she could. We fashioned a pulley over her bed, so she could pull herself onto the '''potty chair'' It has a hole in the middle, she '''walked''' herself to the toilet, then positioned the chair over the toilet. She had to wipe her own behind as well. I wanted her to know, that she had to be on her way to independence. It would be different if he had a disease like Prader-Willi syndrome or Graves disease, but he doesn't. The blame falls on them both!
Hes an adult it's just as much his fault as his mother's. This victim hood mentality doesn't help
@@purple4156 It is hard to choose a different lifestyle if the easiest way out is the only thing you know. I agree that he’s in someway used to be capable to do this on his own but that capability is long gone. His mother trapped him and now she just keeps on feeding, feeding, feeding. He can not walk more than 10 minutes this man can not order fastfood on his own or open a lock. Mom lets him eat mom wants him to eat mom wants him to stay immobile and stay with her,mom does whatever he wants, mom and unhealthy food is the only safety he has ever known. I feel like at this point it is definitely not his fault anymore at least not a good 70% of it, he doesn’t have a functioning well adjust brain anymore he’s not developed.
He could tell her “no mom, I am not eating a cheeseburger, I’m going to eat grilled chicken and stick to the 800 calorie diet.” He has control.
This was amazing to me how he got to that size. Unbelievable that his mother couldn't understand or stop feeding him.

If he’s hungry…” Let me stop you right there. He’s not hungry, he’s depressed. He’s eating to satisfy an emotional need, not a physical one, and nobody looking at him would rationally think that he’s being deprived of food unnecessarily. Something tells me she needs just as much therapy as he does
How has he only been alive for 26 years and is almost 1000lbs
I’m actually stunned
He's since died
He actually gained up to 1,oo3lbs Dr. Now was right when he said it looked like he'd gained weight. 4 digits is crazy.
When you see him throwing a tantrum like that, you know he's never going to help himself
It's sad because both Sean and his mother passed away not too long after the show.
She just said, "We weren't comfortable putting him on that few of calories." ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! Thats pure denial right there folks!
She never read the diet sheet Dr Now gave her, not for a second. And unfortunately, Sean did not have "only one burger a day" as an 'extra' on his 'diet' - if that really was the only 'indulgence' he was having, even on a daily basis, he would STILL have lost weight. Not as much, but definitely some - and he absolutely would NOT have GAINED weight.
But she's comfortable with the excessive overfeeding?? Just seems crazy to let someone get like that.
@@lyndahylton819 right!?! Don't you see you're slowly k*****g him? It's weird.
As if he's 'confortable' in that condition!?
@@graceskerp Right!?!
They don't FEEL COMFORTABLE putting him on 800 calorie diet?! What, they think he's gonna starve??
I'm baffled that they think a medical doctor who specializes in this would give bad advice
I honestly cannot understand how his parents could let this happen. He was not born this way and ate himself to death.
That is grave and horrific physical, psychological and emotional abuse of a son by his mother😓
Dr Phil always says a form of child abuse is a parent that does not teach a child basic life skills that teach them how to be a full functioning independent adult that can make their own decisions and take care of themselves. This is the worse form of overmothering that I have ever seen.
I don't like Dr. Phil, but that's correct. The parent is actually more reliant on the child. The parent keeps the child at home and dependent on the parent by not teaching them life skills - just so that they have companionship. It's horrible. Eventually, the parent dies and leaves their child alone and in a world that their child has no clue how to navigate. Since they've been in the house most of their lives, they have no friends or support system. All they had was their mom. This episode makes me so sad. I can't even watch it again.
Lord as much as I hate to agree with anything Dr Phil ever said…
Dr Phil isn't a licensed doctor
Do not forget the infamous Steven "royal highness the blob" ASSanti.
I don't fully agree with that because we have a choice to pursue knowledge ourselves. Parents sometimes fail because they also lack knowledge regarding parenting because no one is born a parent. But it doesnt have to end there we can also learn how to develop independence without their help through reading several books per month, discipline and commitment. We live in a world with easy access to information. Resources are readily available. It's easier to pass blame on someone instead of taking responsibility and accountability for it. Sean was the driver of his own life. He made choices that led him to his death. If he sought after a way out perhaps he could have found an escape. But for many years he was comfortable. I don't know the entire situation or know his temperament towards his mother. I'm not sure if he threw tantrums to get what he wanted from her.
Sean never wanted help. Ungrateful and disrespectful. He was suicidal from the get go by extreme noncompliance. He wasted everybody's time and resources.
seeing him cry while doing nothing is actually really heartbreaking . he was literally sitting not moving a single muscle and still is in pain do u know how unbearable that must be ?
His threshold for pain is different than a normal persons. What he is calling pain is what you and I would describe as a minor ache or being slightly uncomfortable.
@@whiteyfisk9769Or, having 900 pounds of fat crushing your body actually is painful.
Oh its absolutely horrible. The amount of pressure that's constantly on his body must be so painful. It's so sad it got to this point. This is way past the "normal" level of obesity. I honestly don't know how he survived as long as he did at this weight. Sad to hear he did pass, this was ultimately preventable
What is wrong with his mother ? My God peopIe, that is NOT Iove. It's chiId abuse at its worst.

I can't even comprehend this weight. How can a human skeleton not buckle under 900 pounds? It's a miracle he even reached that weight.
The mother is unbelievable! She’s the one giving him the food! 🤦🏽♀️
Ultimately, Sean’s story was very sad. He was so utterly dependent on his mother that he really had no hope to begin with. Then when she passed away, he just gave up.
I dont know how people let themselves get that big. I get over a certain limit and my body starts to hurt.
The torment you are in when you are stuck in food addiction to this extreme is tremendous. It seems easy to us but it is near impossible for these people. We need to not make fun of them or think badly. They are struggling and can’t get out. Him joining this program is already a huge step and it has to be very scary
A bunch of people successfully complete the program Dr Now prescribes to them. The black dude with the pony tail (forget his name) did unbelievably well and didn’t complain. It’s not like hero!n or something where they or need methadon and it sucks beyond belief and you have sleepless nights etc. The point is do 9 out of 10 meals the Dr Now way and sneak in cheat meals, just not like these people do. This guy Sean and his ding dong mom probably didn’t even attempt to follow diet.
There is 2 common factors in each one. An enabler and the actual persons selfishness/ constant over eating and snacking even when told their life is on the line … this dude in particular is horrifically maladapted. The mom is one of the worst enablers I’ve seen on the show. When the cameras aren’t there she’s like “The Doctor Doesn’t know what he’s talking about 🥴” and then in front of him she’s like “we’re trying 😥”.
He passed away unfortunately
“Shaun hasn’t adapted to the new diet yet but we’re trying” said as she makes him a 1500 kcal meal.
I know he’s gone now (RIP), but I’m astonished that he was over 900 lbs and could still take a few steps.
I can tell there is extreme mental illness issues underlying with this case.
4:58 this part alone pretty much sums it all up. The Mom is (was) unbelievable…. To put it lightly.
Sean's story was very sad. He had a mom whom he was very close to that enabled him, then she died. That was his only family , and after that he became really depressed and started losing will to live. Dr Now really stuck by him the entire time and did everything he could to undo all the self destructive behavior. He died, however. He really tried. 🙏🏽 RIP Sean.
Bro.. he never tried. it was a mutual slow suicide. Guy was playing DS while being told he will die any day now. He got what he deserved.

I eat 1 fast food meal and I'm full for an entire day.
IF he had really eaten only one burger a day, he should still have lost a lot of weight. The denial is real.
I wouldn't even say once a month of low-end franchise fast food is healthy for an adult that doesn't routinely work out. The calorie intake is too high.
