Guess what you guys?! In this video I mispronounce "Cambridge." The first syllable and stressed vowel should be the A as in GRAY not the AH as in BLACK. It's CAME-bridge, not CAM-bridge. 😳😯 A couple of fabulous viewers have brought this to my attention. I thought about trying to change the video, make an edit or something, but no! This is a perfect example to show and share that native speakers make mistakes too! Happens all the time! And it's ok! It's a bit embarrassing, yes, your pronunciation coach mispronouncing words but hey, I make mistakes a LOT (agh, especially spelling!) and I try to acknowledge and accept them with grace, then move forward! Otherwise the crippling monster called perfectionism would keep me from ever getting in front of the camera. Thank you all for the continued support, encouragement and well wishes! You are the best! 😘😘
This video is pure gold. I’ve been learning English for the last 30 years of my life and I can tell for sure this is one of the most helpful videos ever. Thank you Keenyn!
the whole english that I have learned is wrong I can write and good at grammar but only understand 40% when I listen or speak with an English speaker. now I'm getting it right thanks to your super good learning. Thanks Kennyn🌹🌹🌹
I'm learning American accent, and out of all the English accent teaching teachers.... I found that u hv made videos on even smaller to smaller points which we should take care of while pronouncing words especially sounds..... So.. THANK U so much mam
Hey , Keenyn, I miss your lessons, and I miss you too. It's almost a year and a half. I enjoy your lessons most. Maybe you forget me , I have question for you. I had a feelback from a UA-camr teacher. We argue about pronuncition and accent. You know, pronunciation is diction, accent is the tone and intonation, they're different. I was born and raised up in the US. If I have that experience, I can be a native. I'm Chinese, a non-native speaker. I have a clear pronuncition, but I can't lose my Chinese accent. I was born with an English tongue. I've learning English for fifty-four years. I spoke English at work for many years. I had an adopted parents in 1972. They were Scottish for years. I've following the Hong Kong Seven Rugby with a circle of friends for twenty-four years since 1996. That UA-cam native born, not American teacher gave me for two times .Accent is very important. Keenyn, you teach pronunciation. How would you define pronunciation and accent? English is a languge ,you know, a languge is a means of communication. You know, I have a solid foundation on pronunciation, I have a good grounding in grsmmer, but I don't have the British accent, American accent, I have my Chinese accent. I really don't understand what she means arguing this. I'm so sorry to bother you. I hope you'll have an answer for me. Thanks so much. Have a wonderful day. Take care, Kneeyn. Bye for now. I'll see you soon in the next video.
Hey Keenyn, you’re awesome. Learning from your channel is such a golden opportunity. I enjoy getting here as often as I can, and I love to hear your genuine American English. Just feel like home.
Thanks so much. Ibfew days ago I became your fan, I'm working on trying to repeat all everything you say. I love your accent, so I'm working each day to improve my pronounciation. Thank you.
Thanks for all your tips. While I watched your video, I was shadowing you, your intonation, your voice... I like to record my voice and compare it to the audios. I have three apps with dialogs. I watch friends to pick up phrasal verbs, slang. Shadowing, grammar exercises, I have the google docs app, I like to write my thoughts, creative ideas , there's a channel called Sounds America, I learned so much about pronunciation. Your channel is incredible.
keenyn is a great english teacher. you're voice is so beautiful.. like a singer. your teachings is very clear but hard to master coz phonology is the most important for all language especially non phonetic languange like english @indonesia
Thank you so much teacher, since I started watching your channel, my English pronunciation has improved a lot. I love the way how you blend those points with phrases in 0:23, 1:34, 6:08, and 8:19. Can you make a video? Where you tell us that way, hopefully, my confidence will boost up!
Awesome video as always Keenyn! I especially like your tip about the 'stressed' syllables, that's something not a lot of students realize! 👍Last week I made a video about some of the other really good English channels on UA-cam and shared yours in the video. Hope that's ok :D! Keep up the awesome work 👍
Hey there, Grant! Thanks so much for your kind feedback and for sharing the channel on your channel- what a wonderful compliment! 😊 Hope you are doing well!
Pimsleur's American English accent for fluent ESL speakers. Talking about shadowing to learn a language is an excellent idea. It's the same concept used by the Pimsleur method. I had used this method to learn Spanish. Now when I speak the little Spanish that I know, I get more complements than I deserve because a lot of Mexicans say I speak it with an excellent accent. However, I don't get the same complement with my English, which I actually speak much better. 😪 I've been looking for an audio recording of an American English accent that uses the pimsluer shadowing approach to teach American English accent for non native speakers who want to improve their intonations and accent. What I find instead is Pimsleur Engish for Spanish/Italian speakers who are just starting to learn how to speak the language. If you can read a chapter of a popular book such as "The old man and the Sea." by Hemingway, and add enough pauses between sentence like they do in the Pimsleur method. I'll be the first to purchase it. I've had to use an audio software to add pauses in audio books but it's time consuming. You will title it "Pimsleur's American English accent for fluent ESL speakers" and it will still like hot cake. I'll be the first to buy it. Or do you already have some form of recording with timed pauses for one to repeat after?
Many thanks as ever. as part of recording oneself , I think one may also try to pronounce some words out loud as voice input to some app having this feature and see if it can be recognized ..'google translate' has one - I think this can be one way to verify and build confidence but may not be the best way if the app is guessing it ..
Keenyn !! Your explain is so easy and voice is so sweet clear I can understand you perfectly I like it really it's facinanting video in the World thank you for them😊💜
Thank you for uploading so helpful content. Besides everything else, may I ask how... or rather, what are the names of these vowel sounds : /æ/ /a/ /ɜː/ and /ʌ/ ? The reasoning behind this question is since schwa /ə/ is called Schwa, there must be some nicknames for the rest. Thanks.
Hi lady. I'd like to know if you have any videos about pronunciation and linking with past verbs in commons sentences. For example: I've tried to do it", "I liked that movie", or "I checked my email". (sorry if I made a mistake in my writting) Thank you for advance.
I had to look Cambridge up because I didn't trust myself for a minute, thanks for making that clear for everyone. I have a question regarding the word button. I watched your video explaining how you don't have to pronounce the T, uh, ok. Your tongue makes a very slight T sound but I'm concerned that people are using slang when they pronounce button, BUh-n. When I hear this it sounds like slang or the person is ignorant to me. And, I'm a native American from Philadelphia and my mom taught English for over 40 years. Can you please explain how saying Buh-n is the proper way to pronounce the word. Thanks!
Hi Keenyn, I noticed you said: "There IS a lot of words in English..." (0/29). Is that sentence grammatically correct? Please advise. Thanks, Albert from SF
"There is a lot of" and "There are a lot of" are both legitimate terms, depending on whether the noun is countable or not (Example -'There are a lot of trees' (countable), 'There is a lot of water' (uncountable)
