    You can also use the Zoom H2n for this. I've read that you have to update the firmware to 3.0 for this to work. I can't verify that because I'd already done it. You MUST power the adapter, as it says in the video. I tried to do it without and it wouldn't work. I connected the power and it works like a charm. Excellent!

    So it's 2020 now as someone said. And my iPhone doesn't have an headphone jack anymore for monitoring. Do you have any suggestion on how I could monitor the audio whilst recording now?

    Hi, I have the Zoom H1. Can this be used with an iPhone (for video recordings) INSTEAD of a lavalier mic? Or would you recommend using both, a lavalier AND the H1, with the H1 as an interface to the iphone...? ( I know the H5 can be used as an interface, but can the H1 do the same thing?) Thanks!

      Nope - this does not work. The Zoom requires too much power, so the phone will refuse to use it. You need to have the powered dongle. This won't even work with the lightning/usb unpowered dongle that Apple now sell.

    This method works great for the Zoom H2n as well. Thanks Aaron! I've spent hours trying to figure out how to get the sound quality I like from the Zoom mic while shooting video from my phone. • @masonhartman38
      @masonhartman38 4 роки тому

      @@jimsy5530 I definitely had to use the powered USB camera adapter that was used in the video, otherwise the phone won't have enough power to use the Zoom H2N as an external mic. The main difference that I did instead, was use the iRig Recorder app instead of Garage Band like he did in the video. I just did a video last week and it worked great. Make sure the H2n is set to a USB audio interface and turn the monitor off within the iRig or Garage Band app. Gently tap the Zoom to make sure it is picking up sound from that mic and not the iPhone's built in mic.

      Jimsy just for clarity, I didn’t have to buy an iRig mic. I just used the free iRig app that you can download from the App Store. I used the H2n mic on the iRig app. The only component you’d have to buy is the USB 3 camera adapter which is about $39.

What I mean is that I would like to use the zoom h1n, as a mike, connect to my iPhone, and edit it in iMovie with the audio in the video without having to download it from h1n. But, I’d like it to have the same quality the h1n records in itself. Thank you in advance.

There are some videos that they have successfully connected H4n and iPad but all are 4-5years ago. I found a post about connection problem 3 years ago and figured out that since upgrading iOS6 it is not compatible any longer. And interestingly that is when Zoom started to release new line up like IQ4. So I only assume that for marketing reason Zoom started to set H4n not compatible with any longer. Well, H5 and H6 have menu connect to iPad but not H4n so understandable but even H1 works with iPad. Oh hate this. XD Please UA-camrs. If you have any secret method please share with us! :D

      Aaron Putnam yeah, seems the zoom can do nearly everything the rode will and alot more, but the rode is very limited in what it will do in comparison, especially since camera preamps arent so good, and the zoom acts as one. I think I might get the rode because it focuses sound better in one direction, and run it through the zoom. probably wouldn't connect it to the camera unless the subject was very close to the lens. connected to the camera is convenient when you can get away with it though.

      If you're referring to the Apple USB adapter, yes it needs power.

      Fotocred Fred so it needs power constantly? or it gets fully charged after a while n how can we be sure?

      @@ecedorsay the adapter doesn't have a battery so you can't charge it. You just need to provide external power with either a wall adapter or USB power bank.

      elTony once the zoom is connected, almost every video recording app will use the external microphone audio.

      @@TabsOnTech thanks but I have a new problem. My phone says that the H1 requires too much power and that's with plug in power or power bank. my phone is an iphone 6plus version 12.4.5
