holy crap, I'm not even close to being fully familiarized with PS/AE, but you walked us through that so coherently and at a pace that seems manageable. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you so much. I always struggle with how much to speak about apps we don't open often on this channel, but are pretty essential to a process. I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
@@Artistic-p5j for calling up any property in After Effects there are keyboard shortcuts. They may be different depending on your keyboard language. For me it's the P key for the position. But you can access properties by twirling down in the timeline, and if you're working with the latest version of Ae, there is the new properties pannel. Many ways to call up position.
@@ECAbrams I have another question: when it comes to "particules" such as in a pinata thing or a mini volcano throwing multiple small items, what would you say is the best method to animate all the little items moving/ being thrown away by the mini volcano or sweet falling from a pinata? Its tricky because you need to animate every item/ every particule, and they must all have their own direction and angle.. so I wonder what do you have to say about that?
Alright everyone. I found the painting used in the picture - it's " Joseph Ducreux - Discreet Secret ". I don't know why the hell it is such a big deal to say the name instead of " _it's wildly available on wikipedia_ ", that the author answers to everyone, but anyways, here you go!
Your videos never disappoint! The detailed tutorials, clear comparisons, and brilliant showcases of sound design and storytelling are incredibly helpful. Thanks for the insightful and well-explained content.
- hold down space to move a pen point around - work path selected + layer selected + cmd + click mask icon to get a vector mask - cmd E = merges selected layer with the one bellow, PRESERVING VECTOR MASK - these are gonna save me YEARS of life, thank you
Hands down one of the most thorough and well organized tutorials I've watched. Thank you for creating this - I've learned a lot and I can see this being a permaent refernce as I practice w/ AE.
I've learnt how to use Photoshop to a pretty good standard from UA-cam, I think now it's time I got into After Effects, cheers for the vid, I think you will be my go to guy for this one 👍🏻
I really appreciate tutorials like this. I would never search "Animate a Portrait" but the learned new tools like content fill. edit: and the control-click the scale nodes to deform (enter to confirm)
Glad to know that I have been using similar techniques in all my projects where I need to animate a still image. I always wonder if there is a better way to do this.
awesome video! btw for photoshop id recommend using masking layers instead of erasers and you can group multiple layers with cmd+g instead of merging them down. i always find an issue when i come back to my work and having a non destructive edits means you can keep adjusting in the future :)
Really excellent tutorial! The vector masks in PS are a great tip for this and the camera parallax is something I'm definitely going to use immediately. Thank you!
Your voice and the way you're explaining everything so clearly are making me full of energy and ready to follow your tutorials :D Love this channel, thank you !
Oh man Im kicking myself for not having started after effects until now, this is so exciting you can do all this, and you really have a great comprehension and explanation of how this many different elements work. perfect tutorial
Great tutorial, great audio quality, appropriate speed, useful side notes about hotkeys and corresponding editing techniques. New tutorials are highly appreciated.
I usually cannot stand video tutorials but this was fantastic. Great pace, very thorough with excellent tips! I feel like I've learned more from this video than 90% of every video I've seen combined. Well done!!
Fascinating stuff, I’m not versed in photoshop , just use Premiere Pro but I wanted to learn about animating very similar to what you just did. My Mom was a painter and my thought is to take a pic of her painting and have something move in it. I have a painting in mind, just to figure out what the heck you are doing and if it’s something I could even learn! Thanks
This is a great and helpful tutorial, but can we just marvel at the creative programmers that were able to code all of this? Machine learning has come so far and the people behind them are wizards
This was BRILLIANT! Thanks for making this. I cant wait to try this out with some upcoming projects! I’m guessing I’ll have plenty of time now with potentially being locked down thanks to Coronavirus! My plan is to learn as much as possible in this time - going to be using your tutorials for sure!!
Nice job your tutorial are just perfect, you inspire me to start my channel (in french) in 2015 and I hope I will have more time to upload more videos soon. Tks for you time buddy!
So, most of the techniques are the same. We need to still isolate the elements in the same way. The only place we would deviate is in this mouth situation which would require more pupped pins and more careful articulation. Syncing to ANY song is another problem. That requires some automation if you want to avoid making many many many keyframes. Something like Character Animator might be the better tool.
Imagine taking a photo in the 17th century, for it to be taken later and get animated. Good lesson btw, I'm still trying to handle Premiere, but will comeback here after I finish learning it.
I feel that anyone from the 17th C would believe it to be "magic" and "witchcraft" but maybe they're cooler than I'm lead to believe. But I'm sure I wouldn't last 5 minutes before being pronounced a wizard and burned for my crimes in the olden times.
This is a great tutorial, and just learned a bunch of new stuff for AE and PS. I will definitely try this and integrate that in one of my video, thank you!!
thanks so much for this, I am absolutely brand-new to AE, I'm trying to bring one of my paintings to life, I must admit the tutorial is brilliant but too fast for me but I will keep watching and keep practising but how do you actually save it or can you preview it before you safe to watch it working? many thanks
To preview in realtime in after effects you'll just need to do a RAM preview. Usually, that's the zero key on your keyboard. You can also hit the space bar to just play the timeline. If you look at the top of the timeline you'll see some frames marked as green, some as blue, and some just grey. The green frames will play in real time because they are cached. Hitting the 0 to ram preview will cache all the frames and play them. When you want to export the finished animation there are many ways, I would recommend checking separate tutorials on the details, but you'll be using the media encoder or render queue from the composition menu. I hope that helps get you going in the right direction.
I absolutely love this tutorial so much! Your work is brilliant. I'm so intrigued by the concept of animating classic art paintings. Do you have more samples of other paintings, or know of where I can find more examples? I definitely would like to try this. Maybe with a 16th century Holbein Tudor painting. Or another 18th century piece like this one! I appreciate your tutorials, they help so much!
Hello Evan, I just watched the full video specially for that specific part (INFINITE LOOP) and i am disappointed that you did not included which made the whole effect comes to life. so i checked whole comments section if you have breakdown but you just replied that its on the list but couldn't find video on your whole channel. can you please explain that loop part? thanks for the video
Thanks for the video, however, please let us know where to find the infinite zoom as the project is half-finished and doesn't look like the one you are showing at the very beginning.
Sorry about that. It's a lot to cover in a decent time. I recommend people pause, rewind, and sometimes watch twice when they miss-step. Stopping to try out the techniques and coming back is also a good idea. These things can be complex if it's your first go and we have to assume some familiarity with the apps when we're showing more intermediate uses of the program on a project basis. Thankfully though, adobe has some great beginner learning resources in the apps themselves that I really recommend checking out to get familiar with the tools and interface.
I'm gonna try this out. I'm good with Photoshop, I just need to learn a bit more of after effects. Could you please point out to key tutorials for the techniques used here?

You see, when you get to 60 and you're a semi regular user of PS, this whole video looks like a Chipmunk on speed, but it is excellent none the less !
@@ECAbrams 16:38, how did you call up their position as you said here? is there some shortcut for that?

Tks a bunch. This guy is sooo pro that sometimes he forgets about simple stuff!!!!
Perhaps he didn't share the name of the painting... because it's a rather discreet secret...

OMG. This is so friendly, clear, and useful for the type of stuff I want to do. ❤
In the pen tool I suggest using the rubber band mode. It allows fewer points because you can see the curved line your are creating.
2ManyDJs did this years ago. They would perform with a huge screen displaying album covers & have the figures move around. Such a trip.
