Prince was a musicians musician, he was theee ultimate rock star. No ones star shined brighter. Lastly, he was actually the celebrities, celebrity. Any talk show or late night show, the biggest so called stars always recount their personal prince stories. Doesn't happen with anyone else

I don’t think he actually did any skits on SNL. But he did a few on the Muppets show, yes Prince was on the Muppets show in 1996. He did an alternate version of Starfish and Coffee on there.

Every time Prince performed on chat shows, variety shows, comedy shows, he took a song that everyone knew, mixed it up 100% and knocked it waaaay out the park!! The man was above and beyond talent. Thanks for showing this, such a great performance, it's an absolute pleasure to behold.

Speaking as a fan of the music and the artist I can definitely remember the days of lookin at AMA or Grammy hoping Prince would show up. Speaking as a currently frustrated guitarist in today's lack of music I miss the pure sound of innovation in music. I miss running to the record store to get his newest and then learning each song in a week. I wasn't a fan of the third eye Era, but after 40 years of hits he gets a pass. 4 someone that gave so much to so many I'm saddened that he passed away alone. I'm equally saddened that he didn't have an heir to pass his gift to. To the Purple Yoda clan be at peace and stay wild

Michael B on drums and Rosie Gaines on keyboards and vocals were the new members being blooded in

This was right before The New Power Generation but right after the 1987-88 “Lovesexy Band”. Sheila E had just left the band and drum duty was given to Michael Bland, Levi Seacer was on bass and Miko Weaver was on rhythm guitar, Dr. Fink (the guy in the doctor scrubs) was still on keyboards and wouldn’t leave until after the tour in 1990 after working with him for over a decade. The one and only Patrice Rushen joined the band as a one-off singer for this SNL performance but was never an official member. By the way, he never participated in any skits even though he performed on SNL 3 times.

In this point of his career at 1989, this band had no name and was in a transition period. Sheila E was no longer his drummer. The kid behind him is Michael bland a Minneapolis legend at this point but here he is 19. Patrice Rushen is in the back on keyboards as well. It was a one off for sure. Between the sign o the times/lovesexy band and the new power generation which wouldn’t be official until 1991

Not sure if anyone has commented on the meaning of the song yet, but that question reminded me of this story one of my friends told me from the early 2000s.
So Prince used to rent out the movie theater down the street from Paisley Park and just take everyone over to see a movie after shows sometimes. I went to a couple in the last few years of his life. Anyway...he took everyone to go see Minority Report. And I think she said at the show the next night, he commented on how much he disliked the movie and said something along the lines of him already writing something with the same plot, and he was referring to this song. "If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind then give me the electric chair for all my future crimes."
    Anyway...carry on...
