  • Trying to categorize Jason Isbell's music will quickly feel like a fool's errand. Maybe that's why his new album, Something More Than Free, went to number one on three different charts: folk, country and rock. Isbell and his wife Amanda Shires join Shad to talk about his new award winning record "Something More Than Free".

q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts."

    Fascinating
Loved Jason's material with DBT, and his solo stuff is equally good and his writing getting better
Amanda is awesome too, with 4 great albums and a wonderfully talented artist
    Thoroughly interesting and entertaining interview

Jason and Amanda's perspective on being new parents is 100% true. There has to be a song about new parents escaping to the grocery store.

I remember my daughter staring at a lamp for hours. Toes, noses and fingers.

Around the fourteen minute mark, what he’s referring to, I immediately think of Tupelo. It’s just such an all around amazing feeling when listening to it. Sometimes it’s hard for me to pick out exactly what stands out about it, it’s because there are so many pieces that makes it what it is. Lyrically, melody, the music as a whole, including production. Just... yeah. ❤️

+Ben Holland The do play "concerts" together, but yes, an album with them would be GOLD! I think they are the two BEST songwriters out right now.

+Ben Holland RA was supposed to produce Southeastern, but it fell through. I always wonder what that would've been like. Also, RA and JI toured together in 2012, I think it was-- there are UA-cam videos if you search for 'em.
