booktube amanda is back YAYY
if there isn’t a worst of makeup 2022 i won’t make it in 2023
confessions of an alleged good girl was one of my favourite books of the year. read excuse me while i ugly cry and really enjoyed that too. cant wait to see what joya goffney does next. i’m finishing the inheritance games series and then diving into legendborn!!
you talking about books is my favorite thing!! you got me into so many books that way
We need another *Let's talk new releases* 🥰🥰♥️♥️
My favorite reads this year was Yinka, where’s your husband, Wash day diaries, Wild women & the blues. All written by black authors.
Yinka where’s your huzband was AMAZINGGG
Washday diaries is amazing 😻
i adore hearing you talk about books ☺️ taking many notes from this!!
My favorite books I read in 2022 were definitely The Traveling Cat Chronicles, Seven Days in June, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Last Night at the Telegraph Club, and Book Lovers
AMANDA IS KEEPING US FEDDDDD😩😩
The Kiss Quotient is my favourite romance ever!!! But I enjoy my romances lighthearted and fun, they're escapism for me so I like the least angst and trauma as possible lol
The Heart Principle was amazing and her best written book by far but unfortunately since I went into it blind my expectations got in the way of my reading experience. I expected something like the kiss quotient but the romance and Quan (who I was basically reading the book for) took a back seat to Anna's story. I still think this book is amazing and touching, they could have just explained/marketed it better since it deals so heavily and honestly with grief and I truly didn't expect it. Ultimately it wasn't the book that I waited two years to read. But I loved that you actually connected with it and enjoyed it!!!
Much love and Happy new year!!
I dnfed The Bride Test and gave up on the whole series a while ago... but you've convinced me to try again. The Kiss Quotient was one of my fav books in 2020. I got giddy hearing you talk about it.
Top three of 2022 are True Biz, Annie On My Mind, and The Last Night at the Telegraph Club
I highly suggest House of Hollow!! very addictive read, some scenes in it stayed with me for a long time. Song of Achilles is also an excellent read. And these are a little longer than you usually read but the Six of Crow duology is sooo good, some of the best fantasy books out there and I feel you would love Inej, you can also read them without reading the rest of the books that take place in the same world, all the things in it are v self explanatory.
My favs this year were The Lesbiana Guide to Catholic School, How Moon Fuentez fell in love with the universe by Raquel Gilliand, From Blood and Ash and Sweeter by Jorja Tabu. I can’t wait to start reading Confessions of an alleged good girl !!
I LOVED Moon Fuentez too! I'll have to check out your other faves
@@candyisreading8813 do you have a Goodreads ?
omg i loved moon fuentez and i literally just finished confessions of an alleged good girl! have you got around to reading it?? i feel like it explores similar themes of purity and religion and i loved it as well
My favorite book I read this year was Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro which also happens to be my favorite book I've ever read and also the best book ever written. This book needs to be required reading.
i love your book reviews
I’m actually sooo happy that you liked book lovers
My Favourite books of the yearrrr that i recommend
1. Terms and conditions
2. Better than the movies
3. Honey and spice
4. Book lovers
5. You deserve each other
Ur welcome
Top 3 Reads of 2022:
People’s Person by Candice Carty - Williams
Reclaiming by Yewande Biala
A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson
Two Disclaimers
- I’m aware AGGGTM didn’t come out last year but I read it for the first time last year.
- Had I had bought Honey & Spice last year (I couldn’t as none of my local bookstores had it) it would be in my top 3 reads. But I got Honey & Spice as a gift this year and I can’t wait to read it! It’s going to be in my top 3 reads of 2023. 😊
the bride test was one of my top reads of 2021 so I’m so sad it didn’t hit for you omg. it’s my favorite of the series, but I absolutely adored the heart principle as well (funnily enough, i ranked TBT and THP together) quan is my favorite character so they really hit for me. also, HEAVY ON THERES NO WAY YALL READ ALL THREE AND TKQ IS THE MOST HYPED???? MAKES NO SENSE.
Anyway, LOVE LOVE LOVEEEED book lovers! top 5 this year, yes nora queenie AF! lol book lovers is her best imo, but BEACH READ is also really good. Great picks Amanda! Love your taste, and excited for whatever you do this year.
Top 3 Reads
1.) Those Who Wait - Haley Cass
2.) God of Wrath - Rina Kent
3.) Terms and Conditions - Lauren Asher
PS - really excited for you to give the bride test a second shot, hopefully it changes your mind 😭💗
joya goffney the author of confessions of an alleged good girl has a book call excuse me while i ugly cry and it’s so adorable i recommend
I wish i could say that the inheritance games series gets better but I think im just here for the ride bc the second book also ended in bs but now i need to see how it ends with the third one 😅
I'm so here for the Joya Goffney love, she's so good
She really is. I finished excuse me while I ugly cry about a month ago and it was amazing.
@@user-oq5xl6hp5w yesssss .it’s amazing
nobodies gonna agree with me but i loved the love hypothesis last year 🙃
Amanda you should tryout StoryGraph it’s a lot better than goodreads
And it's owned by a black woman! 👏
Thanks for this book review! I've been mostly rereading my favs all of 2022. I was disappointed and frustrated by some of the books I read early in the year and also my favorite authors haven't been writing as fast as I've been reading. I'm trying not to wear them out in 2023.
Loveless by Alice Oseman was my #1 without a doubt (probably because I felt so seen that it sent me into a sexuality crisis), The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School was my #2, and Vicious by V E Dchwab was my #3. it’s fantasy which i normally tend not to love…but after I finished Vicious I went to look up fanfiction about it, which a book hasn’t made me do since the dystopian-teenager-chosen-one esc type was everywhere.
it makes me so happy to hear you loves Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl - I’ve been working on moving away from BookTok and I bought that book during the 50% off hardcovers sale at B&N. Hadn’t heard of it before, but was just letting myself roam and read summaries without BookTok or Goodreads influence, so it’s definitely moving up my TBR knowing you liked it!
Thank you. You are appreciated
would love to see a "so i watched the walking dead" it starts off slow but i love that show fr
My top 5 favorite books of 2022 (excluding Confessions of an Alleged Good Girl and Icebreaker because they were already mentioned in this video) were: 1. Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn, 2. The Grip Trilogy by Kennedy Ryan, 3. Seven Days In June/The Perfect Find by Tia Williams, 4. A Worthy Love by A.E. Valdez, and 5. From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata (I read a lot of books this past year, so this was very hard to narrow down 😅)
Cosrx snail moisturizer yassss
The relating convo... gold
Pet is an excellent book. And i LOVE short books
oh i LOVEEEE your ear piercings !!
3 book recommendations: LEGENDBORN by Tracy Deonn, The Perfect Ruin by Shanora Williams & The Weight of Blood Tiffany D. Jackson
Love Legendborn and The Weight of Blood! 💙
ive been in a reading slump for a while im taking notes rn lol
First time viewer and I’m in love!!! I’ve been needing some girls who look like me who love books! Subscribed😊
You should try the saie blushes! They are amazing
The only book I read and finished was the Inheritance Games cause I didn’t have much time to read. And I loved it so thats my favorite read!
Would never read book lovers for the same reasons haha but now it's got your approval i'm running to read it
I was so excited when I saw the title of this video because I thought you straight up just were not gonna talk about your favourite books since they weren't mentioned in your previous video. I will say though, there's a pattern to the cursed side of booktok because I've found that the majority of booktok recs that I hated were made by people who think Reputation was the peak of Taylor Swift's career and everything just made so much more sense to me.
Also, my top 3 books of the year:
1. She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen (It was kinda cheesy, but I cried 3 times. This book has absolutely ruined me and Irene Abraham is now one of my all-time favourite characters.)
2. The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi (This is a historical fantasy, which is not my favourite tbh, but this book was very similar to Six of Crows aka my favourite book, and it catered to my interests more with linguistics and puzzles and classical Indian dance. 10/10 would recommend.)
3. The Malice Duology by Heather Walter (This was a sapphic Sleeping Beauty retelling and the writing is absolutely gorgeous. It's one of those books where after reading it, I just didn't know what to do with myself for like a week.)
I'm gonna cheat and mention my last 5 star read which is a manga series consisting of 10 volumes. Sorry if you don't read manga, but I would like to mention that the lowest rating I gave to one of the volumes was 4.25 stars and it was the 1st volume.
4. Strobe Edge by Io Sakisaka (I've re-read this series so many times it's actually insane, but I hadn't re-read the entire series in a few years and it will always have a special place in my heart. I read a lot of manga and this is my favourite series. Anyway, Strobe Edge is a coming-of-age type of series that's quite cheesy but it has a really wonderful romance and a solid friend group that I will forever want to see more of. I know nothing about art so I feel like I can't say anything of value about the art style, but there are definitely panels that live rent-free in my head.)
I lied, I'm also gonna cheat and mention another book that I absolutely adored re-reading. It was a middle-grade fiction book which is why I was initially not gonna mention it, but it's one of the only ones I've ever given 5 stars to. (Also, we should all go back and read our childhood favourite books, that shit SLAPPED.)
5. Miss You, Mina by Denene Millner (I genuinely don't know if the Candy Apple book series was solely a Canadian thing, but nevertheless, there are so many hidden gems in there and this book is one of the best from the series in my opinion. Mina is a wonderful character and I still related to her as an adult. I've recommended this book to all my friends and also anyone and everyone I know with kids and/or siblings that I think would really benefit from reading this book and I've definitely had people tell me that they wished they could've read this in middle school. Again, don't really know if middle-grade fiction is your thing, but if you were to read something directed to that demographic, I would give this book a shot.)
My top 3 books were:
Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman
One of the good ones by Maritza Moulite
Snowflake by Nia Forrester
my fave books of 2022: monday's not coming (tiffany d jackson), beach read (emily henry), passing (nella larsen), damballah (john edgar wideman), mama day (gloria naylor), please look after mom (kyung-sook shin)
Amanda I love your videos and I’ve missed you posting, I know you said reputation is ur least favourite Taylor swift album, but I kinda wanna see you rank the songs in it
i read a lotttt of good books this year but some of the standouts were daisy jones & the six (incredible AMANDA U HAVE TO READ) and the song of achilles
Aristotle and Dante duology and the Song of Achilles
my favorite book i read this year was Popisho by Leone Ross! i also recommend Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky and any book by Nalo Hopkinson and Tananarive Due. I’d love to hear your thoughts on: Seven Days in June by Tia Williams, Mexican Gothic and Gods of Jade & Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, The Stars & the Blackness Between Them by Junauda Petrus, Forty Acres by Dwayne Alexander Smith, and This Close to Okay by Leesa Cross-Smith… I’m currently reading Patsy by Nicole Dennis-Benn and so far i think it’s really good, highly recommend!
I highly suggest As along As The Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfah Katouh check trigger warnings before hand but it’s so excellent
Omggg yess about black girls must die exhausted I dnf and Amanda u held on way longer than me cuz I was done with it by the first few pagessss....it did not make me want to go back AT ALLL. And yes I felt u on the explaining things to yt ppl cuz that's all I kept thinking about but I thought I was being dramatic....
You NEED to watch Yellowjackets! I’d love to see a video from you on it!
So excites
Excuse me while I ugly cry makes me warms and gushy love it
book lovers is the best one i fear lol but beach read is a cutie!
My top books of this year were Her Name in the Sky (which made me reckon with my religious trauma), Circe, and The Oleander Sword!
2022 I was horrific for starting books and then not finishing them, but I really enjoyed, and actually finished, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb.
Manifesting a new makeup releases video 😩🙏🏾
Favorite book this year is a place for us by Fatima farheen mirza. Omg it’s so good and if you come from a ethnic very religious household it will hit close to home.
My favorite book I read was actually a memoir. I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette Mccurdy. Very heavy but very good
💕💕
You should use STORYGRAPH instead of good reads!! Its way more fun and gives you stats on what you read + it was created by a black woman
Also hate Amazon lol
You can also very easily import your hood reads info (they do it for you)
The Island of Missing Trees was definitely my favorite book of 2022! Does Amanda have a goodreads account I can follow?
2nd book of the inheritance games is not worth it if u don't like the first, coming from someone who LOVES the series
Currently listening to White smoke on audible and I must say I was not prepared and I'm scared.

@@mm5xo omg thank you. i don’t know i missed that
Idk if we are taking book recs here but I have one if you like fantasy and grumpy women. Go for a Deadly Education
Watch the bear
amanda! i know this is from months ago, but the second inheritance games is Even More of a let down. please do not waste your precious time on it
the second book of the inheritance games is even worse, like this time the buildup isn’t even good
I actually liked the Inheritence Games but the second book they completely lost me, every twist made less sense than the last and it was just v unsatisfying. Don't bother
The way I just found out you had a Twitter and I am blocked 💔. Taking the hint and unsubscribing. Love boo 😘
Lmao shes annoying af anyway
What did you do to get blocked is the question 😭
Girl when are you going to finish watching degrassi🥴🥴🥴🥴
i'm soooooooooo happy you're posting again!! happy new year, Amanda 💖
Me watching Amanda talk about Honey Girl as if it’s not my favorite book ever: 🧍🏽♀️
