    Whisky.com reviews the Macallan Sherry Oak 40% 12 years. The 12-year-old Sherry Oak has long been an integral part of the Macallan range. In recent years it has only been available in a few markets. In 2018 it was reissued as part of the new 'Trilogy series'. The malts Sherry Oak, Double Cask and Triple Cask highlight the various influences of sherry on the whiskys.
    This bottling matured entirely in sherry barrels. Macallan works closely with the Spanish producers. Before the seasoned barrels come to Scotland, they are stored for 18 months in their country of origin, Spain.
    Official answers and comments will only be given on whisky.com.

    For the price charged for this whisky now, the declining quality of casks used to age it over the years and the fact it's bottled at 40% is criminal. IMHO

    The prices are holding a little under control in the US. When I find a big sale / get a little lucky, the 12 Yr Double Cask can be found for $45-50 and the 12 Yr Sherry Oak for $60-$65

      Glenlivet and Glenfiddich seem to have taken up that role. Both still very affordable. As good as Macallan? Debatable.

    Thank you for your great videos, just wondering if bottle to bottle could be different? I have this one and every time I drink it,I get way way more oak taste than cherry and can't find it fruity. It is definitely pricy especially down in Australia where we get 5 times more tax etc. :)

    @scottym.9077 3 роки тому +1

    You could comfortably say “it’s fine” and be on the mark. No really big stand out flavors. Kinda gentle and rounded. Nose is nice. I get more floral than your typical Sherry finish. The bottle does say Sherry “seasoned” and it is quite light in color for Sherry finished so not sure what that means.
    On the palate I get notes of spice and dark fruit, however those notes struggle against the alcohol (weird for a 43% abv, but that’s what I get from it). It just didn’t seem like there was a lot going on. For the price, it’s not very interesting.
    The finish is just pure oak barrel. Like licking a board.

    It seems fairly futile to issue some Macallan hate. It's so overpriced as to become invisible to real whisky drinkers. It should be £35 but it's closer in price to Glendronach 18 than to comparable whiskies. I just bought a Darroze 20 year old Armagnac for less than this. Guess which one's better? The pathetic and old fashioned 40% abv emphasises the point that this whisky is not for real whisky drinkers. It's a trophy from somebody trying to impress and the old sucker cliche of being able to afford it. I know Horst loves his Macallan but the good old days are over. I've had some great Macallan over the years, since the 1980's actually, but this is a distillery that has sold its soul to the dollar.

    Where I live this bottle sells for something like 60 euro. There is no way I'm paying this premium for 12 yo malt watered down to 40%. Lets face it: it is obvious money grab. Selling water at the price of premium whisky. No, thanks. Macallan or not, sherry cask or not. Especially when I can buy a bottle of Glenallachie 12 yo and a bottle of Arran 10 yo for the same money. Last week I bought a bottle of Glenallachie 10 yo Cask Strength Batch 3 for around 45 euro.
    Marketing BS aside, this Macallan should cost 35 euro at best and even then I'd rather wait for a special sale to pull the trigger. But then again I'd rather buy something else because those 40% ABV are just BS.
    Do I regret missing the "super tasty" Macallan? Not for a second. The only regret I have is I'm not the one selling it and collecting the money of the ignorant snobs😀

    Pay €35 more and you will get a Glengoyne 21, which has 3% more ABV and is 10 years older, and also matured in 100% European Sherry cask, even first fill..
    Or think about the 18 years Allardice...

    • @welshtoro3256
      @welshtoro3256 3 роки тому +1

      Totally agree Robin, but let's go in the opposite direction and pay less. Springbank 15 (46%), with a bucket load more character, is less than this. The Aberlour A'bunadh cask strength is less than this. It's a different style but Talisker 18 is less than this. Glendronach 12 and 15 are better than this and cheaper, with better abv. I could go on and on. It's a £35 bottle of whisky and anything more is bragging rights.
