Glad it was helpful!
I love putting minky/cuddle on my quilts, baby and adults. I love how you wrapped it. I’m going to steal that idea from you as I do mine differently. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I always put care instructions in my quilts too and I have never had any problems with putting my minky backed quilts or blankets in the dryer. In fact, my grandson insists “I warm” his up to make it extra cuddly 😊
Wonderful! The only minky I don't like in the dryer is the luxe cuddle but perhaps you have had different results. The standard minky dries beautifully in the dryer for me though!
Thanks for showing us how to sew using Minky backing. I want to do this for the next baby quilt I make.
Glad it was helpful!
So So Nice! What a Great idea!
Thank you! 😊
Really love handmade gifting idea! Thanks for your share.
You are welcome!
Jessica these wholecloth Minky-backed quilts are so beautiful! I’ve always wondered how to do this, I plan on trying FMQ’ing on my Juki because it has a fairly large throat space. Thank you so much for showing us exactly how you do it, your videos have been so inspirational and invaluable to me in my quilting interests. As a small way to show you my appreciation, I just wanted you to know that I have now bought all of your books and even one to gift to my only friend who quilts. They’re all terrific, and I hope to one day be able to make quite a few of them! Thank you, Diana K.
Thank you SO much! I really appreciate your support and I'm so happy to have you following along!
What a wonderful idea! I love minky and so do my kids. I wanted to let you know I have recently subscribed to your chanel and have just been enjoying your content so much. I think you do a great job and I have used more of your tips than I have of any other quilter I watch (and I watch a lot 😂). Thank you!
Thank you so much!
These are lovely and great gifts. Minky does kind of drive me crazy with the shedding. I love Minky so much that I want to try to keep using it - will try the vacuuming as I go method.
Enjoyed the tutorial on the minke.
Hey Jessica! I love the minky back quilts! So soft and warm. I haven’t made one yet but I think I will give it a try now. You are such an inspiration to me and I always have the courage to try things you show how to do! Thank you❤️😊
You are so welcome! I hope you love the minky! It really is fantastic. The first time I used it, I was nervous but I was surprised that it really wasn't much different than working with quilting cotton.
Beautiful !
Thank you!
This is such a lovely idea for a gift! When you are making these, do you always choose an extra wide fabric for the top or do you choose regular width fabric and piece it together? I definitely see myself making these for gifts! I’ve never used minky on the back of a quilt, but I’ve always wanted to try it. Where do you like to buy your minky from online? I am going to check my local shop to see if they carry it. Thanks again for another lovely video!
Thank you! I sometimes piece the top and sometimes don't. It depends on how big I want it. For these here, I just used a standard width of fabric. If I piece it, I pattern match so the seam isn't that noticeable. You could also use wide fabric. When I buy minky online, I buy it from Amazon or Missouri Star Quilt Company. Joann Fabrics has some too- I think they only carry the regular minky though and not the luxe cuddle.
When you make a whole cloth quilt, is the front pieced? Or is it one piece of fabric or is it wide fabric? Love the idea of a whole cloth quilt when you need a quick gift. Thank you!
You can do it all of the above! If I piece mine, I pattern match the two pieces so the seam isn't noticeable. Here I just used one width of fabric. You can also used wide fabric.
@@jessica_dayon Thank you 😊
How to wash Minky blankets:
Wash in cold water.
Wash separately from other clothes.
Use gentle, dye-free, and fragrance-free detergent.
Don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets.
Air dry or tumble only with no heat.
Thanks! I do wash in cold. I don't was separately and have never had any issues. I line dry. I've had great results with this!
I just wash it with everything else, air dry and then fluff it in the dryer on low/no heat. Never had an issue and I wash them a lot because they are mostly on my baby/kid quilts. I will have to try washing it cold and separately to see if that makes a difference. Maybe they will be even softer that way🎉
Just found ur channel.. love quilting and alll ur quilts! how big is this blanket, how much fabric would I order??
Great! It really depends on how big you want it. You can make these any size.
Hi Jessica - I’m watching this months after you shared so you may not see my comment but I sure hope you do.
Do you use cotton or polyester thread for the quilting and when adding binding when using Minky?
I used cotton but you could use polyester if you wanted to.
Are you using a walking foot to put the binding on?
I don't but you definitely could!
Do you use 1 or 2 yards of minky on a quilt that size?
I bought a 2 yard precut minky. I didn't use the full two yards though, I trimmed some and saved it (maybe 10 to 12" or so).
@@jessica_dayon your finishes are beautiful
There’s another quilter on UA-cam. Who uses Minky and what she does , is uses peel and stick kitchen wrap on the back that catches all the fuzzies and it doesn’t bother the fabric. Just an idea.
Do you mean she uses that plastic freezer wrap that has teeny tiny suction cups that she would stick to the cutting board before trimming, and then scrunch up all the fuzz into the plastic wrap and throw it away? (I’m very interested in streamlining the cleanup process on anything!). Thanks in advance, Diana K.
Her UA-cam channel is called “ The sewing channel” episode “ quilt, backing tips - Minky fabric hacks.” She uses press and seal food wrap that you use in the kitchen. She also links to another UA-cam channel where she found this hack from.
Thank you very much Jessica. They are beautiful. Do you label quilts that you gift? It is not something I have done and just wondered what your take is on labelling quilts.
I haven't labeled quilts that I gave as a gift. I wasn't sure if the user would want that label on there. I guess it depends, if it was close family, I'd label it but for other gifts, I don't. I think you can do it either way.
