Oh Jenny you are so normal, I love it. “ you don’t change needles, you sometimes even sew with the colour thread already in the machine and you rush to finish. Thank you for making the rest of us feel a little better.
I can confirm that unpicking cuddle is challenging. In the wee hours one morning, I was quilting the sandwich. Unbeknownst to me a big gob of it got sucked through the machine. My machine didn't even gulp when it happened. I pulled the sandwich out and mysteriously, it wouldn't flatten out. LOL. I turned it over and found 3 or 4 layers all sewn together. It was a little tedious to unpick and best left for the next day. 😊
This was SO informative. I was always told to never bind with cuddle. Now I know I can. Plus I learned so much about the different types of cuddle that I never clearly understood. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. ❤
I just ordered Cuddle from Missouri Star. I am making a baby blanket for a coworker. This will be my first time using Cuddle. I am so excited that you have made this video!! This will help tremendously!!! Thank you!!! :)
Thank you so much for this very timely video!! I just finished a king size quilt top for my daughter and we picked out a luxe cuddle for the backing.😳 Yes, I feel a bit of anxiety about the whole process but, this video has been given me a boost of optimism!! 😃 Thank you both!!
I love cuddle! So relaxing to pet and squeeze. It was game changer for my quilt backings. I took a class with Teresa Coats in Rancho Cordova, CA and she is a jewel. Love you guys 😘💕
I always back my quilts using cuddle unless it’s for a customer. I just LOVE how soft they are. I use my digital dual feed for the quilting. They always turn out great. Shannon makes a good product. I once purchased a black cuddle from a big box store. I made some infinity scarves for my daughter and I. We wore them and by the end of the day we had black fur all over us. I then purchased the Shannon black cuddle and made the same infinity scarves. We wore them and kept checking our shirts and yep, no fur!!! Shannon might be a little more expensive but, we’ll worth it in the long run. They are a great company and I’m so glad to hear that MSQC has such a great selection of cuddle. Now, I know where I can purchase it from. Thanks.
Just finished a quilt for my grandson and used cuddle for the first time. I loved seeing the pattern stand out on the back and done the folder over for binding. Was awesome and enjoyed your valuable info. I’m into cuddle.
So, no trouble with it being stretchy at all. I had a long armer once told me she would quilt it for me if it wasn’t a huge quilt, like a double would be okay, but nothing much bigger (bc of the stretch to it).
I have three quilts on the go at the moment (a wedding ring block - wedding gift quilt, a baby quilt and a 60th birthday for my friend since we were 11) backed with cuddle fabric - I’ve always quilted my quilt top and batting first then attached the Minky - quilting it less. - fearing that the fur fabric creases easily. This vlog was really very useful. Although in the UK I struggle to find the Shannon fabric in stock. Thank you for another great tutorial. 😊
I made/sold so many infinite scarves last winter with cuddle fabric. This week I'm making a cuddle baby blanket... I have 2 on my bed that my cats have taken over....
I really enjoyed this Jenny and Teresa. Thank you so much. Learned a lot and loved how to miter the corner, so easy. And I have been known to sew like you Jenny don't change the needle sometin=mes and sew with the same color thread in the machine using when busy "rushing to finish". But just on my stuff gifts need perfection.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was just in time!!! I just cut Cuddle for two backings tonight. I do need to remember to check the nap! I am so glad to learn about how to use the backing as the binding! This is exactly what I wanted to do, but, had thought I would need to fold the Cuddle under. This will be so much easier!
Honestly I have never used cotton backing. I started with polyester fleese and moved to cuddle. FLeese is cheaper and easier to come by, so it is my go to, but last christmas I recieved a bolt of mint colored minky, so I'm all set for next ten quilts. It stretches quite a lot, but practise makes perfect (not that my quilts are perfect or anything). Everyone loves the cuddly backs. My quilts are used a lot and my son actually sleeps with one every night. He tossed the duvet. Thank you for spreading a word about this way of quilt backing. I really don't know why quilters fear to use it. It is the way to go!
So awesome! Thanks so much for the great tips. Not so different. Love the self binding. I use it a lot for runners and mug rugs. Fast and efficient, looks great too. Pssst, I don't change my needles unless they break too. Just don't tell anyone, lol. Love you Jenny! You're so real!
Thank you so much for this video! I love cuddle but the last quilt I made with it I swore would be my last. But, I bought some of the 2 yard cuddle and a baby cuddle kit. This video will be so helpful when I sew those projects which will be soon. Wonderful tutorial!!!
This was great! I saw her a couple weeks ago, too! Love y’all’s interaction with each other. A wealth of knowledge. I still wonder whether or not to use batting, say with a lap size?
Oh, I like the thought of 90" cuddle. I usually only make queen/king size quilts. I'm glad you brought up about the nap. I learned about it in home economics in 8th grade. I'm 63 now. Do you want to quilt cuddle dense?
Great video. Thanks for all the work you and your team put in to keep us updated. I saw a video that featured Minkee and other fluffy fabrics. Before cutting, she pressed on "Press and Seal" on the back, then cut it. All the fĺuff that would normally be flying, would stick to the "Press and Seal". I haven't tried it, but it does sound interesting.
I love this information! I have a baby quilt laid out right now with minky backing- trying to figure out what to do with it! Thinking I'll take to LA then do the wrap-around mitered corners! I have bought quite a few of the 2yard cuts. For larger quilts, I will frame the entire cut with a cotton to fit the top! That way I won't have to mess with flying fluff!!
@@TeresaCoates Oh, another channel to follow!!! I look forward to checking it out. I’m just learning about how to approach sewing with minky. So, here’s another question: Which works best - sewing with the minky on the bottom, facing the feed dogs, or pile-side up facing the needle?
@@hollywaddell6727 that really depends on what you’re sewing because most of the time the pile is sandwiched RST. But if I’m sewing cotton to Cuddle, I’ll put the Cuddle on the feed dog side.
I enjoyed this!! I am making a quilt for my son right now and he does not want batting but wants the minky backing. There will be a 1 1/2 inch binding and I can't figure out how to do the mitered corners with that wide of a binding. Any suggestions? I tried making the box in the corner 1 1/2 inch from the edge of the minky but that didn't work.

I just did my binding in cotton on a polyester backing and omg, took me forever, bc I just found it hard to get through the polyester. If you are quilting a cotton top to a minky back on a long arm, do you still use a ballpoint needle? Will it cause problems with the cotton pieced top?
I made a cuddle quilt & never will again ! If it didn't slide off the table,it slide out of my clutches at the sewing machine ! 😅 I love feel of that fabric though. I gave it to my niece with the request of me never seeing it again 😂
Question: Could I free motion cuddle backing on home machine? I have made 2 w/ these type backs, I straight line quilted b/c I feared the sliding of free motion would cause stretching of knit. I'm asking b/c I see the quilt on wall has a quilting design.

yall need to do a cuddle collage series i really think more of us wanna learn about the fabric itself such as the c2 c3 and so on

I'm so glad you had Teresa on. I love using cuddle on the backs of my quilts.
My last 10 quilts had cuddle on the back… everyone loves it!
Audrey, doesn’t it make the quilt back slippery?
I'm glad I've been doing it right with cuddle. I LOVE putting cuddle for backing for along time.
My very first quilt I did on my brand new long arm was cuddle backing. I L❤VE how cuddle turns out on a backing of a quilt!
Thanks for the tutorial! Now I know how to cut cuddle without making a terrible mess!
I put red cuddle on the back of my quilt. Everyone wondered if it would run. No it is so beautiful!!!

I love using cuddle as a backing with my long arm, it turns our beautiful! And slows the long arm down so it won’t get away from you.😂
I use an old large frying pan to pat my quilts when i spray baste them. covers larger area than my hands and goes faster.
Trying cuddle for the first time. Will continue research before I give it a shot😊
I always use cuddle on my quilts! I love it and do the recipient!
I don't change my needle unless it breaks.
I love Jenny!
When your needle starts “ thumping” into your fabric as you’re sewing you know for sure the point is blunt.
I belong to the same club😀😀

Love all the tips for cuddle that you have provided. This gives me a little more confidence in trying to use this. Thanks! Happy Easter!
So love seeing my 2 favorite creators on a video tutorial. Thank you! 🫶🏽
Love cuddle fabric
I recently bought a remnant of a slightly longish cuddle but I’m terrified to use it. So right now I just touch and pet it😀😀😀😀
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Great tips on working with Cuddle I’m going to give it a go.

Love the video learned so much. Thankyou!
I use minky or cuddle cloth for backings only usually. So my long armer deals with it.

How to square up quilt if cuddle backing is used for binding?? Thank you for the tutorial ♥️🌹

Thanks for the video! I look forward to using this as a backing for some upcoming quilts! Do you recommend washing the cuddle before quilting?
Very helpful. Thank you.
Just checking do you use the same thread in the bobbin?
Yep!
Love cuddle and thinking of trying it as a backing but would i still use batting??
In the video, she stated she uses batting with a cotton top, but no batting if the top and bottom are both Cuddle.
Can you hand quilt with cuddle?
That is my favorite part of quilting. I always hand quilt.
I want to know this too as I handquilt.also I'm assuming no wadding?
You can, but take your time with it and take larger stitches.

Awesome tutorial ladies! Does MSQC long arm quilts with cuddle for customers? Is the price the same or more?
Can you do this with QAYG?
It looks like the top was quilted before adding the cuddle backing. Do you quilt the backing at all?
If you are quilting a cotton top to a minky back on a long arm, do you still use a ballpoint needle? Will it cause problems with the cotton pieced top?
You just use your normal quilting needle and it’s fine, but it’s a good idea to use a fresh needle to make sure there are no burrs.
are there any special instructions for putting it on a long arm?
Could you put batting between the two pieces of cuddle if you wanted , when there is cuddle on the front and back?
Yes, if you want to quilt it. It will as depth to the design and weight to the quilt.
