I wanted to recreate the recipe and figure out if I could get close to the real thing and I'll tell ya 1 thing... its GOOD! This tastes just like chicken!

Dry sear them on top of each other by weighting it down with a heavy pan. That will compact them and get a lot of water out. Then let cool, batter them, and fry them.

Where do you get your oyster mushrooms from? I have a hard time finding fresh mushrooms in central Florida.
Could you do a full list of the all the most common ingredients that you use to make different meat subitutes. Its just I'm new flexitarian and I wanna try making my own meat subitutes. It would make it alot easier for beginners to have instead of going through each video and writing down ingredients. I would greatly appreciate if you do this video idea. 😊

I'm wondering, the freeze "mistake" possibly made the mushrooms more meaty.

One of the asian grocery stores in Cleveland I go to has packaged vegan chicken and beef. Imagine pulled style chicken and beef. When I finally get a job, I'd love to send you some!

Made this today. I'm not a great fan of oyster mushrooms, because I usually find them flavourless and chewy, but like this they are actually very much like dark chicken meat and not at all flavourless. I also thought that amount of vinegar might make them a bit too sour, but they weren't. If I didn't know I would never have guessed the recipe contained vinegar.

You haven't lived until you accidentally use vanilla flavored plant milk in a recipe that is supposed to have the unflavored kind. Great recipe, thanks for this video.
...or using it for the first time on frosted flakes after black listing cereal since going vegan 9 years ago. It almost made it worth the wait.
@@superque4 Well, I was saying it kinda as a joke, because vanilla-garlic biscuits are kinda...um...different. But, yeah, cold vanilla milk over hot steaming oatmeal, especially on a frosty morning would be great!

I looove these fun mushroom-based recipes! They have so much to offer in terms of texture and thanks to their mild flavour, you can really make so many interesting dishes out of them! And oyster mushrooms are probably one of my faves as they are more meaty than white button ones or Portobello's while still being relatively easy to find. And honestly, this recipe being quite simple the end result was just spectacular! That batter sounded incredibly crunchy and satisfying! I am happy you enjoyed these :D

I think "Not Milk" is the best Vegan milk ever created. I use the 'whole' for my vegan Alfredo and Mac n Cheese. To die for

In the Philippines this is known as “mushroom fries” and are somewhat common in some areas. Instead of hot sauce/apple cider vinegar, “sinamok” is used instead, which is like a sugarcane vinegar with labuyo sili (a type of tobasco pepper), galangal (or ginger), and garlic inside. This is the most common type of mushroom available, so we use it for other things like “mushroom sisig” or mushroom burger, mushroom sauce, etc

You should try this with chicken of the woods mushrooms as well. They taste EXACTLY like chicken. I mean EXACTLY. You can do a chicken stir fry and can't tell the difference. Hung out with a micrologist years ago in Seattle. He made the stir fry and tricked everyone. But this looks yumm! Can't wait to try it!

Gotta admit, cant believe its similar to chicken except for the batter - but mushrooms are freaking delicious. This looks awesome (and an great substitute for meat)
the texture is similar and the batter is the same, at the end it "tastes" similar because of those both things

These look delicious. However, to get them to stick together, you should try using maybe a slightly thick, almost glue-like cornstarch slurry. If the mushrooms were blended, you could even use unsweetened applesauce. The applesauce may give it a little bit of a apple flavor to it, but I personally find it delicious. 😋
I had a feeling after watching the try guys vid you would recreate it. Not a vegan but this would be delicious

A local vegan restaurant makes oyster mushroom wings and they are fantastic! They don't have them everyday, though, because it's hard to get oyster mushrooms here. :(

Can you use lemon instead of vinegar to curdle the plant milk? Would it curdle home made plant milk? I don't really understand the reason for the milk to be curdled though? I have never used buttermilk so I'm a bit lost here.😄 And why the baking soda?
