- Richie Hawtin demonstrates in a short live set how he performs with Bitwig Studio, custom API scripts for MIDI controllers, and Traktor. Richie Hawtin developed the scripts for the Novation Launchpad Pro, AKAI Fire and a custom Yaeltex to suit his workflow, and they're now publicly available as free extensions.
Tracklist:
Hemissi - Grand Unification Transition
Roll Dann, _asstnt - Red Rhythms
Franz Jäger - Planetary Lab 2

Always great to see how Richie Hawtin uses gear when performing. And even more to see and hear the integration with Bitwig. Thanks for sharing this great set! 🚀 🌻
I love Bitwig and Richie Hawtin, dope live set.
The visionary dj & producer.. legend !
The best there is IMO!!
Always more than impressive!
It’s impossible to “copy” your art, Mr Hawtin, we can just try to emulate your techniques, trying and experimenting with the same passion you put into it.
Respect and thanks for sharing🖤
💣🔥🚀
Oh my god - that was incredible! I'm so inspired today (finally got started with 16-tracks, woohoo!)
This dude is an OG Badass!
Love this
Master.
Wowsa. This track is neat!!!
I've accidentally set up a very similar environment. Laubchpad pro 3 as primary sequencer and keyboard(s), launchpad mini as track controller, Faderfox pc12 for tailored control pinned to specific instruments and also acting as mixer, electra one as context aware controller.
Bitwig is a joy to jam with, and I find myself using it as a performance machine much of the time... just grooving away in softly lit room. Very satisfying. Of course, my skill is nowhere near the level shown in this video. But it is a pure joy just to jam.
As an aside, one of the things that had me switch to bitwig was that it is so easy to customise how it works with cheap controllers. I am actively trying to avoid GAS and being able to hook up a $79 akai midi mix or $90 launchpad mini mk 1 and still have them *do real stuff* is amazing. With a tiny bit of effort, you can program all the smarts you want into any device by using bitwig's scripting. So cheap kit suddenly becomes very, very powerful.
Good God this is beyond AMAZING
Awesome
Thanks @Richiehawtin ❤❤❤
The master himself! What digital djing really means
That's impressive (the comb-over).
Fantastic
Fantástica exibição de música Techno LIVE!
very intuitive
I would like to see how this is set up in bitwig. I'm currently trying to decide between bitwig and ableton, and I struggle to find any good resources on how to do a live performance in bitwig.
Hemissi track , great !!
yap!
What a flight!
Can someone explain to me how that monitor is attached to the model one?
Real master ❤
ouaou good session
superb
Beautiful ❤

Dropping bombs ⚡️
Genius!! : SEE HIM LIVE 🙌🏻
Wow!!
Genial Richie!!! 🙌💪❤👍
I need this mapping 😬
Bitwig is great
nice
Script work for launchpad pro mk2?
Impressive level of control 👍
playing some basic hats/claps patterns and arpeggios over a pre-recorded track isn´t hard, dude... try a 100% hardware setup without backing tracks and then talk about control
@@liantrosretrospectiva4134 I play hardware, so I know :) Though, that doesn't detract that he does a lot in such hybrid setup: traditional dj mixing, on the fly pattern creation and length variations, looping, probabilities, FX and so on.. All on high bpm with constant subtle changes. For sure it could be more technical, but in such cases the hardware likely will be prepatched, quantized and some presets will be used anyway, all together to minimize the error possibilities. Otherwise the development of the track will be very slow or too primitive. Huge respect for musicians with both workflows!
@@liantrosretrospectiva4134 Stop being such an obnoxious blowhard you dork lol. Are hardware live sets cool? Hell yes. But most people aren't good enough to actually make things interesting for a full set compared to what you can do with hybrid setups these days. Literally nobody cares if you use a full Elektron hardware setup, people just want to hear forward thinking music with substance.
Can Bitwig itself record the performance as it happens or is a 3rd part piece needed to do that?
Bitwig can do that easy
Bitwig is an instrument and a DAW at the same time. If you're into this sort of stuff you should consider getting it!
how did he mount the laptop to the mixer?
He probably called up Allen & Heath and asked them to weld a custom bracket onto his Model 1 LOL. Look at some of his videos before the Model 1 was released. He was using some kind of frankenstein Xone:92 with custom ports on the back.
Can someone write down, all the gear he is using? 😅
Two Allen & heath xone k2s, novation launch pad, & model 1 mixer
Can some one send me the Routing File for all?
Richie could even perform on blank sheet of paper like a god
Is Traktor connected in there?
woooooooooooooooooohooooo
god is a dj
which snare he uses?
Simply nobody says how to configure and make the keyboard simply work, use the timbres in BITWIG... that is, just connect and output sound... the Nektar gx61 for example, doesn't emit any sound, at least I can't use it, I and so many other users, for lack of a decent tutorial, (We bought Nektar, which comes with BITWIG and it just doesn't work) PLEASE MAKE A TUTORIAL TEACHING HOW TO CONFIGURE AND MAKE NEKTAR USUAL WITH BITWIG...
we live a a world that cant see the truth right before there eyes 👁
Someone knows what Bitwig is actually running on here? It doesn't look like a laptop, nor really like a Surface-like tablet PC. The screen looks hooked to his central device.
Macbook is on his right side. Looks like an external screen. I know he was experimenting with an iPad as an external screen in the past. I doubt that this is an iPad.
I wonder what laptop his using ? Of anyone know let me know
Probably a Microsoft surface
@@erickauffmann_official but the high end ones right can you send me a link perhaps? Tanx for replying
@@erickauffmann_official y gracias brother por todo el material que haces
its a Macbook Pro, that small screen you see on top of his mixer is just an HDMi external monitor, everything runs on his MB Pro
@@sidgallup tanx for the reply
How does he get the audio from traktor intl ableton?
All that frenetic energy and yet the result is stasis. Remarkable. It’s as if he wasn’t there at all.
No biggie, done something similar with vinyl records,
you can do almost all this with your iPhone and an iConnectivity audio interface with similar controller setup.
bitwig of course you can do much more, but AUM pretty impressive....
Yeah, using a tooth pic for the screen :)
How he play this song on live set and how we play this song on youtube is different.
But sounds are same.
Ok cool I’d really like to see that. Can you let us know your next gig in front of maybe…. 5000 people on a main stage? Or for that , even a club of 500 people? I can shoot a movie on my iPhone, or I can use an ARRI Alexa with Zeiss Master primes. You can buy a Ferrari or a Prius. What exactly is your point?
Compared to traditional music, i must say i feel the lack of logical structure in the arrangment (intro, verse, chorus, bridge breakdown, buildup etc..) It may very well have one: But i just dont feel it! Never the less good mixing skills. As a Bitwig user & Uplifting Trance Artist for over 10 years i feel i have to express my personal opinion.. Before this iv also dj mixed for 10 years. 👍
You do know who Richie is don't you? He set up his record label 32 years ago. I don't think he has ever really followed the crowd. Maybe that's why he has been so successful.
For me its more about texture and feel rather then sticking to normal song structure which gets boring. His movement and ability to basilcy make music live and keep it interesting will forever impress me thats why I love richie so much.
@@Martinhodso007 that doesn't mean that this is good music. It isn't. It's boring. Plastikman was good. Richie to some extent has also done some other amazing things. DE9 is amazing - listen to that if you haven't already. But this is dull and uninspiring
@@cockur Yes I agree this is not the best, too much going on and little to pull you in. It was just OP came across as 'I have all this experience' so felt compelled to reply. DE9 seems to have passed me by. Will check it out thx.
@@cockur exactly, No bueno set
