- Hello UA-cam!
Today we are discussing some techniques to set up and perform a DJ-style set in Bitwig, a lot of these work in Ableton too. Hope you enjoy!

DJing in Bitwig - Template Setup + Track Prep
Another cool trick is to use for example native instruments traktor, and export the midi tempo data to abelton (at least what i did, might work for other daw's), that way traktor and abelton are in sync in terms of the tempo, and you can launch stuff in abelton etc. You can then add effects or other cool stuff, initiate with a midi controller all of which will be in sync with the tempo Traktor is currently in. I just did some experimenting with this (not a dj, at least not in the last 20 years), but you could potentially do some live remixing etc with the right preparation. People can hate on the auto-sync function stuff all they want, but in terms of this trick it's a really useful function
Can you point me in the right direction for where to learn more about this? are you slaying you are able to sync tracks in taktor but simultaneously mi them in ableton? i haven't used ableton for a long time due to being a linux user, but i've been learning bitwig fro a while now, and have been wishing something like this was possible. might consider getting windows going again on my laptop if I can achieve this like you seem to dsecribe
@@buttercup9926 I don't remember exactly how i did it, but as far as i remember, i used traktor as the midi sync master, and abelton was a slave to that sync master, meaning if the tempo of the stuff you're doing in traktor changes, the tempo in abelton will also change. This makes it really cool if you're running effects and stuff like that which will always be in the same tempo as whatever is playing in traktor. As long as the daw can receive midi sync data you should be able to do this in any daw. I don't think I found any tutorial on doing this, it was pretty much a menu diving exercise.
I am a self-taught filmmaker and I like to DJ for fun .... Much like when cinematographers from film school come and tell me I should use the camera on manual focus, I find it pretty useless to beat match when a button can do it. I just think they don't get the bigger picture. Yes, there are advantages of having the camera on manual focus like there's no focus breathing or knowing to beat match because sometimes Traktor can read tracks at half tempo but I think creativity is more important than technicality.
Thanks man! Always helping and guiding others to understand this beautiful Art. Looking forward for more tips! 🙂👍🇲🇽💯💯
Hi Dash. You can actually convert every solo button in cue buttons by choosing that option in the monitor editor (the two arrows facing each other, down-right on the screen). There’s also a very cool native DJ template in bitwig. Love from Italy.
Nice dude! Making me wanna play a live set again! lol BTW killer tune at 13 min!
Next Dash Video: Producing in Bitwig 😉
Thanks! This is a really great tutorial, but how do you fix an imported track if it doesn't detect the beat grid correctly? I've really struggled to fix those weird tracks that don't line up.
bro you rock i'm just about to switch to bitwig!
Bitwig vs Ableton for live performances?
Hey, you only prepare the cuepoints of the Tracks (start etc)
You don't have to warp the track like in Ableton? And get grey hairs until it fits in the grid? :D
There's no need to if the songs have been produced electronically (e.g. in Bitwig or another DAW) and have a steady tempo. If you're working with unquantised music like old disco, funk etc, then it's a different story
Can you do a live performance with only using 16 tracks bitwig?
bitwig have Session view from left to right Mixer view...I thought its up&down in BItw..?
You use Plug in for Deck A B...??
Session view is top-down, arrangement window has left-right clips
isnt bitwig the sameas ableton and you can clip as much as you want in the channel as long as you dont clip the master?
Ableton has nudge native.
i dont see the point of this method tbh, traktor etc are way more suited to dj.
how its done properly imo is using the time line with audio tracks, enabling a perfect set, way more advanced than anything else.
the clip view section is for live act sets.
Hi, how to record the live dj set with this method?
You can run the audio into another channel and record it into arranger view
@@DashGlitch oh thank you!
When did and why did you switch to Bitwig ?
Like 2 years ago, I prefer it for performance based stuff
so how do you mix a track @ 126 bpm with a track @ 128 bpm
bitwig usually detects the tempo and adjusts the clips acordingly, if you use repitch it acts very similarly to how a cdj adjusts
@@DashGlitch thanks, yea was trying to set this up last night and got confused, but the problem was that I needed to drag the clip around to align the kicks
OK so I know you don't want to spark debates, as you said in the video, but your keyboard is way too far to the left...
