    I haven’t had this much fun writing a tune in a long time. I may not do everything like this but it’s definitely a cool way to throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and see what sticks!

    Cool stuff, thanks. One aspect I like with the Bitwig clips that's not mentioned much is that you can unlink the automation in a clip so it runs/repeats at a different rate to the main clip content, so you can make cool non-repetitive patterns from quite short clips

    woah. i have been working in the clip launcher for all my stuff the last year, it's incredible (Thanks Polarity), but I didn't think about creating an empty container and then dragging in the audio - i've always dragged the audio in and had to resized etc. brilliant tip, thanks!

    @1:30 absolutely agree. Ableton is SO inflexible when it comes to Clip Editing.
    There are 2 Things which in my opinion lack in Bitwigs Clipview Though: 1) no audio overdub!!! This is incredibly sad for someone who loves and works with Loopstations. 2) In actual live performance, the tiny white Playheads in each clip are not visible enough. There should be an option to make it more visible, like filling up the Clip with a brighter color.

    Also the "Next Action" section in inspector panel is interesting. You can make some variation clips of particular parts and then set the clips to (for example) play some other clip every 8 bars and let the project to jam with itself.. And take notes which combinations work good together..

    I spent two years in ableton clip view and was stuck in loop hell but it is super easy to record parts using a launchpad keyboard to start and stop recording I can create an 8 bar loop with drums bass and multiple guitars in 5 minutes in clip view you can also create scenes that can then be recorded live into arrangement view.

    • @Alckemy
      @Alckemy  Рік тому +1

      If you don’t have the structure/composition skill built I can totally see how it puts someone in 8bar hell but literally recording parts is the same as arrangement haha. Once you have loops you just piece a beginning middle end. Keep it super simple

    That’s a great idea for starting a song writing session! I’d take the drums/perc bus and bounce it down and lower the volume, then add some live drums so it can groove!
    After that, improvise a live bass or vst over say, 24 bars while the clip launcher is set to record a new clip every 1-5 bars (experiment). This allows you to record one long take, doing many different ideas, and putting them on individual clips to experiment further with. Fun!

    The purpose of Live was and is primarily focused on live performances. Back in the day, you were confined to traditional linear layouts, play, pause, maybe even a loop function. But that was it. The idea of Ableton was to allow the user to both use the clip launcher as a way to produce in a loop style and experiment. Everything could be recorded on the fly like an actual instrument itself. But Live was built on live performances: lighting control, visuals, DJing, etc. The other huge reason Ableton got huge was it was super clean and organized, quick, user friendly and had rock solid stability (of course times have changed a bit, not gonna lie). The other major thing Ableton killed at, was at the time, it was a studio in a computer you could take with you. No need to bring a 500,000 dollar synth setup (of course you could do both) But it gave you world class tools that essentially were with that 500,00 value, for maybe 10 dollars (exaggeration, but pretty damn close). So this was revolutionary at the time. I think What Bitwig was shooting for was to keep the best parts of other DAWs for the modern musician. It's priorities seem to match with what most modern producers need today. But it is not Ableton. The clip launcher here is great for live performances, but it's main focus is workflow, and experimentation with sound. Ableton has that, but is more on live settings. That's what I'm seeing anyways.

    • @Alckemy
      @Alckemy  Рік тому +1

      It’s important to respect Live for what it achieved but I guess I was trying to mention a technical barrier that turned me off from making tunes with it. I Don’t necessarily think this is the best/ most efficient way to compose beats but with the advancements and freedom from bitwig I think it makes the task a lot more approachable and viable.

    • @nomad1517
      @nomad1517 Рік тому

      @@Alckemy Totally agree. it's just a way some people prefer. I think the guys behind Bitwig really made it more efficient for workflow rather than live performances. Or at least unique to what they think is better.

      to setup different midi controller bitwig offer complett cool new way...
      ,,for live performer Session view User this is a dream "
      but Max devices and f.e. Isotonik plug ins and new developed scripts for controller is what Ableton now a days have to offer as big plus.( when they are well coded)
      Bitwig with a Max klone version and new outhouse developer would be a dream....
      Vanilla Bitwig have way more to offer then Ableton on the other side without Max...
      Bitwig miss not much some (Warping, groovepool feature,Audio to midi , some rack functions)
      AbLETON on the other side is way more limited ..soundesdign( sandbox nesting & protection, modulation midi & audio, midi fx, libary & preset handling, working with audio , UI , really fast hardcoded devices , macro rack snapshot handling )....

      This is why all these UA-cam Musicians/Tutorial Dorks are Cancer, They are totally uneducated and making videos.
      I did Live Techno PA with Ableton in 2002 since before it was Trendy.
      Session View is only way to use it.
      for it's core purpose
      Clip envelopes/mseg been in Ableton forever.
      The last good version of Ableton was v7 since then it's been bloated and slow. 9/10 okay if you stay away from Max4live
      Nothing new in Bitwig other than
      vst bridging, scene+session view,
      cpu handling
      Bitwig just keeps adding nonsense
      working with Audio/Loops is Shit.
      Midi is okay.

    thank you for all your great music and videos! one question - does anyone know if you can have a long sound in a scene that sustains beyond the scenes end? in Bitwigs scenes the audio is always cut off at the end of the scene. It would be good when playing live if the audio can blend easily into another scene... Im used to switch between sequences on MPC and there the sounds just finish (long samples play through, even thoug they are longer than the sequence) even though a new sequence has started to play.... Im just thinking about this, maybe it is impossible

    • @Alckemy
      @Alckemy  Рік тому

      Clips can be infinitely long. A sequence doesn’t have a length, rather a clip is launched from beginning to end. I own an mpc, it’s quite different

    Is there a way to set clips to loop by default? I know you can select multiple clips and change their loop status, but I find that I want most clips to loop with the odd one or two to be single trigger, and it would be easier to just change those from the default. Is there an option somewhere that I'm not seeing?
