Check out UVI Waverunner. It may be what you're looking for: www.uvi.net/en/vintage-corner/waverunner.html#instruments We've legit sold about half of our studio's synths because of UVI. They deep sample the hardware (museum quality pieces and restorations of ultra rare/expensive synths) into massive libraries (many are 5 to 35+ GB in size), then combine those with their UVI Engine (which is in both the free UVI Workstation as well as the _uncannily_ deep Falcon II synth/sampler). If I remember right, the UVI PX V8 is @Doctor Mix's hardware Voyetra 8, and they use a lot of RetroSound's rare/restored gear, as well. They not only sample the stock presets from hardware, but also the raw _root_ sound sources (sine wave, square wave, PCM files, etc) from the hardware of which a respective synth's stock presets are composed. It's a blank slate for creating new patches from the ground up. People that dismiss UVI stuff as a preset "ROMpler" don't know what they're talking about. It's so much more than that and completely changed our workflow. Anyway, back to the synth in question... does Waverunner have the exact knob layout of a PPG? Not necessarily, and I'm not trying to say that it's a knob for knob re-creation like Behringer is doing with their reissues, but it _is_ the real, raw, base _sounds_ from the hardware and combined with UVI Engine's filters/controls, you can do pretty well exactly what the hardware can do, and in many cases, even *more* than what the hardware is capable of doing, especially if using within Falcon II. To be clear, I/we love analog and digital hardware synths... they are special, and having it in the room is indeed very cool (or literally *hot* depending on the synth! lol), but when it comes down to that vs studio space, budget considerations, routine maintenance, consisitent tuning issues, settings recall, mobility, time/speed/ease of use, and so on, UVI stuff is probably your best option. Man, that sounded way too much like a commercial. lol. We're just really into it. I think UVI sums it up well in their oft said slogan... "It sounds like the hardware because it _is_ the hardware." We agree. Hope this info helps!
Hi @@red7332! I believe Waverunner is only sold as a bundle for all 7 instruments. My favorites from that collection are the 2.0 and 360, but all are good depending on the situation. Since you're interested in Waverunner I should mention that 2 or 3 times a year, UVI has a sale on Vintage Vault, which includes pretty much every classic synth/drum machine they make (Waverunner is in VV also), so if you don't need it right away, waiting til a sale might be the better way to go. Typically, when VV is on sale it's $399. Normally it's $599, but even at that price it's an absolute bargain for how much content is in it. There's about 70 instruments in VV now, I think. I'd recommend signing up to their email list to get all their sale/deal/new updates. They don't spam. We've been using VV2 (and upgraded to VV3 for $29...yep, twenty-nine. lol) for a little over 2 years now, and have been using Falcon for about 1.5 years. This song, My first car (Lancia Delta HF integrale EVO) , Best Top Gear of the 90's !!! It is such a pleasure to see you and recreate it ! I'm so in love with this song and the emotions what it stands for me.
Brother, you make me cry man....I’m in my 50’s now and when I first heard of this iconic song I was a teenager then. Yes, the song make me cry, your remake is like music magic, all the familiar notes no doubt touched my heart. I’m a middle age guy and this short 11 minutes brought me back to memory lane, people I love and things I like. Thank you brother!
What's real fun is that you recreate this tune very easily, but a lot of people ignore that the band itself had a long and tough time to create the song, that was recorded three different times with three different versions between 1983 and 1985. The first 2 versions didn't work out. It's only the third version, recorded by Alan Tarney, during 1985, that was definitely chosen and made possible for the track to be famous ! Tarney produced only Take on Me, while John Ratcliffe produced the rest of the "Hunting High & Low" album. The beginnings were tough for A-Ha, before they rose to success by '85...
Re-recreating can be easier than creating something original. But as a recreation, I think this one is guite a lousy and incomplete attempt. Just the obvious bits are programmed, bass line chords and synth lick. The more difficult rhythmic comping and drum details that make the track so catchy and energetic are all ignored for convenience. Just play the two versions back to back. Then he finishes it of by vocoding the lyrics but not even at the right pitch :-D Dr. Mix could have given this song the effort that it deserves.
@@draaienmaar Yeah absolutely. This track, although very "poppy", has a big part of something very unique, very fascinating, it's hard to say precisely what it is. For instance, as Pal Waktaar said recently, it's certainly due to the fact that the engineer transformed the demo track into something very spatial as if there was many synth layers... This track has this unique trademark that it's pop and very "atmospheric" at the same time.
I don't have a keyboard nearby so no idea what the key is, but I would absolutely swear the chord was minor sus2. To me it's unmistakable. It could not possibly be any other chord. Why is no one else hearing this?
I find it interesting how they really got the best out of the 3 different synths they used. Each tone or patch is really amazing on its own different way. They wouldn't have been able to get such contrasting rich colors using only one machine.
