Ok video, but I've managed a body shop for over 20yrs now and the best advice I can give is wet sand paper cuts much better with less water and you'll get better results! And next if your gonna teach someone to do something, you should include all steps like not skipping over using compound and going straight to polish, you'll get much much better results not skipping the compound step! And all I use when restoring headlights is a 3 inch rotary polisher and I've never chipped a customers paint, even when rushing and not taping a thing off!
I bought this a while ago and it works quite well. That said, I wish it had a locking mechanism for the trigger since it gets tiring holding the trigger down during use.
Like what I see on the Ryobi. And good video. For the headlight Mothers mag and alum polish will do a better job in two passes. Do the first pass, get the headlight warm, wipe the polish on the headlight and let it set and haze up. Buff off. 303 will protect the headlight and keep the haze from returning.
IMO, Ryobi should've designed it to have a longer head/chuck, since the One+ battery is so "forward leaning" on their tools. As is, the battery can easily touch the material surface that you're working on.
My thought too. I want this one since I already have the batteries and chargers for other tools. But the battery looks to protrude forward compared to other polishers where the battery goes into the pistol grip.
Hi Tim, I like the ryobi line of tools, the huge battery is sometimes annoying it gets in the way for me, excellent quality video as always ty so much,
Wonder how it would have been to finish with the wool attachment using the polish or Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish instead of the yellow foam disc. I just bought this Ryobi polisher and was happy to find a video using it to do headlights since that's why I bought it - Thanks for the vid.
Great review! I need a mini polisher and I'm leaning towards this one because I already have plenty of Ryobi batteries and chargers. Question... do you feel the battery gets in the way of polishing since it protrudes forward? Most other polishers have a battery that inserts into the pistol grip. Thanks!
I actually did this last weekend on all the cars with my drill...🏁 they turned out great they all look brand new... This is a nice unit though Ryobi is definitely stepping it up big time lately....
Watched both your videos. The video with the Milwaukee m12 polisher and this one. Great content! Which of the two tools do you prefer? Also is the Milwaukee brushless.
Bought one of these based on this review. I already have a few Ryobi tools, several fans and many batteries. Figured this would be perfect for my older daily driver that always needs the headlights polished. WRONG! I sanded down the lights by hand first, then using the polisher I made two passes with just plastic polish. Went to buff it out and the polisher didn't work. The light came on but would not spin. Thought maybe the small 2ah battery wasn't enough. Put in fresh 4ah, still wouldn't work. The unit was hot, but nothing extreme. I put in front of the fan for about 10 minutes and it started working. Had to do this over and over until I finally gave up and just finished up by hand. Disappointed with this! I have read how some use it to buff out large areas. No clue who this tool can accomplish that.
Wow, we hate to hear this. We have used this tool for over and over without issue, and we know of others using the same. It sounds like you may have a bad unit. You should definitely return it or at least exchange it. Sorry for your troubles. Thanks for watching and sharing.
@@james2042 I returned it for a new one. But haven't used it yet, will need to wait for the headlights to need new polishing. Many reviews on Home Depot say same thing about overheating issues. Perhaps they had a bad run on a few.
They accomplish it by having a functioning tool.. whereas yours sounds defective. Can you not exchange it? We've had a couple faulty units returned at my work so its not impossible. After all, its another power tool which can act up just like any other
Never done it myself, however I recon that the headlight would sand better if you wiped it down more often. P.s: Ithink that you can get a headlight protector, I think that meguires do one, dunno about autoglym.
@@Esdeath_0001 a simple google search shows your bargain brand ridgshit is 2100rpm and this ryobi polishers 7800rpm. do research before becoming a keyboard ninja.
Interesting to see something different. However, for large polishing I like my orbital polisher and for DIY headlights I like the $20 cerikote kit. Kit uses no power tools and don’t have to worry about knicking paint AND the ceramic coating is amazing. Don’t see the niche for this. Thanks for the review.
Has anyone used this with a 2" flap wheel with the twist lock ... looking at this to sharpen lawn mower blades, with the lower speed, and cooler running flap wheel construction you wouldn't run the risk of killing the temper in the mower blade.
Yeah, they are cranking out the tools like crazy. We're not trying to be RYOBI freaks around here, but they're releasing new tools while everyone else is just sitting idle. Thanks for watching.
2K clear would be better, polishing leaves it bare plastic still. Should've done a demo of removing scratches on the body of the car instead. Would be useful for de nibbing after a paintjob.
Has anyone been able to find a 5 inch backer plate/pad that will fit this Ryobi polisher? I have a number of 5 inch polishing pads that I would like to use too.
Unless it's a tool that I just have to have I don't think I'm buying any more brushed tools. There is no reason they can't put brushless motors in everything today other than to save a little money at their end - which is what Ryobi is famous for. I have a 2002 Dodge Stratus that sits outside and the original headlight lenses are still clear, seems like Cadillac could have put a little more thought into those expensive lights.
The brushless/brushed motor thing...I definitely get what you're saying. At the same time, if the brushed motor can do the job, I'm not opposed to it. Yes, you're right, Ryobi is doing it to keep the cost down. It's probably moreso that they can charge a cheaper price; therefore, selling more tools. As for the Cadillac headlight reference...I hear you. So frustrating, and these have been polished before. Thanks for watching.

Can you include a link to your channel.
I thoroughly enjoy intelligent ingenuity which puts the Ryobi "battery-foot" in the path of most potential resistance.
Very elegantly put. :) Thanks for watching.

What are your thought with this compared to Milwaukee mini polisher? Would Milwaukee be worth the money over this?
Watched both your videos. The video with the Milwaukee m12 polisher and this one. Great content! Which of the two tools do you prefer? Also is the Milwaukee brushless.
How would it work to polish rims on a semi truck?
Could you please tell me the duration of a full battery charge for the polisher?

Likely a defective unit, use your warranty

Another great video review! Any chance of you reviewing the new 600 psi HP EZ Clean?! I’m looking forward to that one.
Great post 💯 I have use conventional painter's tape around the lights...is that what you're using or something different?!
Thanks
So what's the difference or advantage to using this over a One+ HP drill/driver with a polish/sand attachment?
The drill/driver will have an RPM of ~1600. This has a high speed on lower option of 2800 RPM and a high speed on the higher option of 7800RPM.
Just ordered this want to do it in tighter spaces and on wheels and chrome exhaust pipes
Can ve use with a regular dril ? The accesories?

What is the benefit to this tool vs using a normal 2 speed drill for the same task?
This is much faster than any drill. Thanks for watching
@@Shoptoolreviews I don't think it's faster than my Ridgid R86115

Cerakote is good, but if you have customers your not going to pull with your wipes and charger them $80 for the pair or more
Thanks for the suggestion of the cerakote kit. I'm going to give it a try instead of power tooling my headlights into needing replacement. 🤣
It would be unusual if you didnt prefer that lol
Maybe I misundertood what you meant though
Nice review
Thank you so much for this video سپاسگزارم
My recommendation take out the light before this process or protect the paint of the car with something different.
Anyone compare this against the Milwaukee M12 polisher?
Overpriced at $99 let alone $129. I bet Ryobi's 3/8" drill/driver kit is a better value tool at $60.
does this perform as well as the Milwaukee?
Where did you get the sandpaper discs from??
Great job
Excellent...

It would be nice if Ryobi gave you a carry bag for unit.
Do they sell 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper for restoring headlights?
Disregard, asked question before I watched whole video.
Yep, and we just added the link to the Description for the kit we used. Thanks for watching.

This little polisher is not going to spin a 5" pad.
It’s okay but the annoying part it shuts off when it gets hit and has to cool down for it to continue

Like ryobi but come on don’t need another drill looking tool (1/4 impact driver, 1/2 impact driver, hammer drill, drill). Just give me an attachment.
Skipped a step, needed compound first
Where's the link for the attachments?
