  • I recently bought a new audio interface and needed a place where I can put my old one. The old interface is 19" (Phonic Firefly 808 Universal) which needs 2 HE and I still use it via optical connection to expand the number of channels I can record simultaneous. So I decided to built this light weight DIY transport rack case for recording. If you have any question how I built it let me know in the comments!

      I guess this could scale up but the weight may become an issue.

      @@DIMTips for sure, some time ago I built a case for my guitar effect pedals and carrying it alone is a pain. A some point it is a nice idea to add rolls.

    Great job! What is the difference in price from building this yourself as opposed to buying one already made? I’m just wondering how cost effective this was? I’ve seen ones exactly like this go for $200 and better I guess depending on the build quality? But your craftsmanship was on point!

    • @Ema_Punkt
      @Ema_Punkt  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks!! The material cost was about 80€. With thicker plywood and special casemake profiles insteat of the L profiles for the edges it would cost probably about 100€. I found similar cases starting at 120€ - Of cause depending on the build and material quality. So the saving is about 60-100€ but you pay with time. The good thing about the DIY version is you can modify it (dimension, cable management or whatever you want) This build was not a good example of a custom build but for example I build case for guitar effect pedals there I could make everything to fit my requirements.

    hallo, habe eine frage welche holzstärke haben sie benutzt und schließprofile dazu?
    sehr tolles video. möchte mir jetzt auch ein rack case bauen

      Hey danke! Ich hab 7mm genutzt. Die schließprofile habe ich von thomann (www.thomann.de/de/adam_hall_6102_schliessprofil.htm), dort gibt es die noch für 9.5 mm. Würde, wenn das case einiges mitmachen soll, zu den 9.5 raten

    How long do you think riveting aluminium to ply will last ?

    • @Ema_Punkt
      @Ema_Punkt  5 років тому +1

      good question, it depend on the use I guess. I built a similar case for my effect pedals about three years ago with the same method (riveting aluminium to ply) and up to now I don't see any problems. About 5 gigs per year and 1-2 rehearsals per week. So no hard use. If you want to do it more heavy duty- use something like this www.thomann.de/de/adam_hall_6129.htm Then you riveting aluminium to ply to aluminium which makes a more stable connection. For my use riveting aluminium to ply is sufficient.

    3/4 plywood you use?

    • @Ema_Punkt
      @Ema_Punkt  3 роки тому +1

      hey I used 7mm so basicly 1/4 inch plywood, cause I have to carry this by hand/bus. I think typically one would use 9mm (about 3/8) for more sturdiness.

    Where did you get the aluminum pieces that connect with the lid (shown at 1:28)? I’m looking to do something similar and can’t think of what that stuff would be called or where to get it

    Great video, do u have any measurements you use for guidelines?

    • @Ema_Punkt
      @Ema_Punkt  2 роки тому

      Thanks!!! I took the measurements from my to devices and built the case accordingly. But these 19inch racks are standardized so you can go with the measurements you find e.g. on wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/19-inch_rack)

    Hi, just need to ask if you updated your phonic 808 firmware in the past?
    How did you do it? I searched phonic download center but there is only the driver, not d firmware update

    could you give me the measurements?

    • @Ema_Punkt
      @Ema_Punkt  Рік тому

      I can give you the external dimension without the caps:
      34x15,5xx50,5cm
      But I would suggest to build the case around the racks, then everything will fit.

    What is this uchannel rack rail?

    • @Ema_Punkt
      @Ema_Punkt  4 роки тому +1

      You insert screw nuts in this rails so that you can attach your device with screws. The rail makes in adjustable in height. I bought it from www.thomann.de
      did this answer you question?
