You are an awesome dad I hope I get to be like you when my son gets older it’s awesome too see dads who supports there kids on what they like god bless you and your family all the way from the tip of Texas
How can anyone dislike Steve's videos? I have to be honest, this was not the sound I was expecting to hear out of the wholesome looking kids on stage but they have a great sound. Nice job to you and the band!
Not a big fan of that style of metal, but it's still cool to see someone seeking their dream of music, and it's amazing to see a father supporting their son as they progress on their music journey.
It is a lot different than the 70s/80s rock and metal that I like. I am impressed by their musicianship and song structures, plus their recordings sound great for being diy. They are in the process of recording their 2nd CD now.
@@SteveCarmichael I'm not dismissing their musicianship, but like you, it's just not much of my style of rock/metal. I'm personally one of those who likes 80s thrash, 90s grunge, and 00s alternative metal. Stuff like Metallica, nirvana, breaking benjamin, and chevelle.
sitting here watching Steve work, you can really see that he enjoys the crap out of woodworking! Very enthusiastic and energetic, guess i have to watch the rest of his content ... ooh well there goes another Saturday night :P Time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted time!
Our nearest box store must be getting metric plywood. They had 7/16 and 11/16, but no 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood for a similar project. What did you go about the heat given off by the electronics.?
I was looking for cabinet ideas for my son’s guitar amps and ended up here. This is a really cool idea. My son isn’t playing out, yet, but I think he’d get a kick out of the look of this one. Plus, ideal storage. Thanks!
I love how you happily took the mistaken 21" cut in stride and found a good solution. That's a great building skill! Great build man. I'm inspired to head to my shop and get some live audio equipment organized.
You sir an awesome dad I wish my father was half as supporting as you are. Your son is lucky to have you in his life & awesome build was looking for ideas for a road case for myself but will pretty much copy yourself adjusting it for my needs though. Thank you
I'm in the process of creating a 40" x 22" x 30" (h) case for 2 PA speakers. I'm using 3/8" thick 5 ply plywood. Do you think I'd need a 2x4 frame on the bottom?
I do think you would need some sort of frame to screw the plywood to. 2x2 or 1x3 would work as well and reduce cost. 3/8" plywood alone is not thick enough for screws to hold. They would tear out easily.
The plies are glued together with alternating grain direction, so the strength is the same. The outer plies may tear out a little more across the grain depending on the blade. I usually pay attention to the grain direction of plywood just for cosmetics.
@@SteveCarmichael that's a good point. I recently built a road case and noticed the splintering on the outer layer when cutting with a jigsaw. The cuts were much cleaner going with the grain. But I guess, if you're cutting square/rectangular pieces, you will always be cutting at least 2 sides against the grain. ;) Thanks for hitting me back!
Hey Paul! Good to hear from you. All is well here. I'm working on starting back up with the videos again. I miss it. I enjoyed your hockey video. Hope you are doing fine too!
Nice save with the short cut. Always have changes in the design but they don't seem to care about the details as we do. He must take after his mother musically- haha.
That is a great project. I like that you focus on the function instead of making it flawless. It is also great that you and your son feed each other's habits. I hope they do well with their band, but I am too old (years and attitude) to appreciate their music.
Steve, my memory is not what it used to be, but I think I remember you saying you are working at a poultry outside Atlanta. Many moons ago, I worked at a poultry plant in beautiful Cherokee county.
Great job Steve. I just did a video on a drill press cart...always interesting to see how others tackle something seemingly simple like a box. Thanks for sharing.
Nice case Steve. I built a case a few years ago and I used "crackle" paint to get it to match the amps. Well, kind of matched. :) Nice to see your son playing drums like his old man.
It's about the weight of a 12" combo amp. He puts one rack mount unit and a Line6 HD500 pedal board in it, so it's pretty easy to move in and out of a car.
Ahhh the "masquerade"! I'm from Long Island but was in a handful of national touring bands and been through atl more then a few times lol. Masquerade was always a cool place to play. Ask your son if he's heard of a band called bayside. I'm not with them anymore but they are still playing. We weren't as heavy so he prolly never heard of them lol. I love music related builds. Another great video Steve! It really measured up! I truly believe in function over looks (just look at my shop). Really enjoyed the background music. As for your son's music style, well.... He did well with the drums.
Great project Steve, as always! It is fantastic to have your son involved in music! I know you play, and to pass it on is all a father can ask for. Does he create his own backing tracks or buy them and what are the backing tracks, bass or more? Thankz
+Audio Tech Labs Thanks, he's a music major and composes and programs it all himself. They don't have a bass player so the guitarist records the bass track and addl rhythm guitar tracks. They add intros and percussion parts for extra flavor, like 808 bass drops.
And sometimes just repeating the number over and over works too...sometimes... 22 inches 22 inches 22 inches set the table to 20 inches...oh crap! Always a pleasure Steve!
Great build as always Steve. You must have been beaming the night of the show. The kids have talent! Oh, and congrats on them having a logo that you can read. Some bands forget that =)
I understand the frustration with those darn tape measures Steve. Maybe Paul Akers (my Guru) over at FastCap can come up with a solution for that! Nice touch - giving your son and his band a little exposure here on UA-cam. Not exactly the type of music I'm into (there's probably a good reason why friends call me "Doowop"), but we all follow our own paths. Thanks for another cool video! I always enjoy your productions.
Hey Steve, I build custom road cases, mostly local bands out of STl. but have done some for Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Aerosmith. I'll put a couple pics on your facebook page. Nice job, I'm sure it will serve him well.
Great video Steve!!! Looks as though I'll be absent from the Atlanta show this year tpp :( But I'll probably end up going to that same wood place near you in April. We should collaborate on a project for our channels! Got a new camera and mic for x-mas! Let me know!
Make the cabinet the right size next time and use rack rails so you can mount the 19” rack gear correctly. Nice work - but rack rails make life with that kind of gear much easier.

Is there even such a thing as a "major record deal" in 2017? And why would you want one? New acts don't need record labels to have a career if they can develop a big enough social media following. That said for every one act that "makes it" there are 100,000 who will never see the outside of bar gigs playing covers.
One detail that changes everything : he smiles because he's enjoying was he does. Pure gold video

nice build Steve that turned out really nice for him. I guess I'll meet you at the end of the month.
Will you be at the ATL Woodworking show?

I am going to try. This will be my first wood working show and really hope to make it.

Does it matter if you cut plywood with the grain or across the grain?? Which do you prefer?

A jigsaw blade with more teeth per inch would make a smoother cut.
Good save with the rack mounted component! I could see using that case for many things.

Fix on the fly... great job on the case! Researching ideas to make one, thanks for the inspiration.

Do you then plug to power bar into an extension cord? Is that safe?
Yes, if you use a proper extension cord. This is all low amp stuff.
Great job Steve. I just did a video on a drill press cart...always interesting to see how others tackle something seemingly simple like a box. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Joshua! Agreed! They have a new bass player to round out the band now...sounded great last week at their Atlanta show.
6:36 "changing guitar sound without stepping on guitar pedalboard" how to do that...somebody pls help me. I want to know
They use a Line6 HD500 pedalboard and connect it to a laptop with a midi cable and control it via midi I believe. I can ask my son.

I think shop gremlins are responsible for the tape measure problem. Shop gremlins are a real threat. I think measures should be taken.... ;)
Well that was some brutal music. A case will stand many years of abuse :)
Thanks! Yeah, it's a really interesting genre, so heavy and very technical.
