    I bought two sets of these in September 2022. One set I wanted to use and abuse to see how well they hold up and the other I wanted to religiously live in my jeans pocket. My pockets are always full of stuff due to my multiple jobs I keep. With that being said, nothing in those pockets are every safe lol. I'm please to say I can't seem to damage my pocket set and my used daily set are loving every bit of hell I put them through! What a fantastic product!

    Definitely a nice gift for lock freaks 😉
    Sparrows should make the dog tag more useful. They could easily sneak some shims into that piece of metal.

    I saw these in a Sparrows newsletter and thought they looked well thought out, unlike the credit card types. My wife and I were at the fire station volunteering as ham radio operators for a local bridge dedication. The automatic paper towel dispenser jammed in the bathroom. I could have easily opened the wafer lock and fixed the dispenser if I would have had these. Good design and a nice review of your work on these.

    I’m surprised the tensioners are all the same shape, though I guess doubling up makes sense. I’d like to see this in .018”, it would be easier to break apart, the picks would fit more locks, and the tensioners would double and triple into more useful thicknesses.

    I just got myself a set to put on my keys and though I haven’t had need to use them I can tell that they are quality and they’re awesome, I’m a cyclist and don’t like things in my pockets and sometimes I don’t carry my handlebar bag to put my picks in so to be able to have a set of emergency picks clipped to my belt with my keys is a godsend
    Thanks Ash! All the best!

    Did u think about doing plastic part in place where u keep your fingers when holding a key then making it so u will be able to connect both parts again instead of breaking. For example u could slide one part inside that plastic there then put key ring through the hole holding it together.

    I’m sold. This increases the odds that you pick a lock when you actually need to (legally). Now I want picks on everything. Like an emergency set that can somehow be added to shoes, maybe in the laces. Also an option for flip flops. I wear glasses, I wonder if you could hide a pick set in the frame.

    Hi Ash,
    couldn't they add an "ear" on the tensioner for a hole? Maybe it doesn't look that cool, but it would not have an impact on the tensioners then 🙂

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  2 роки тому

      It’s more that you really don’t want unprotected picks and turners in your pocket; they wouldn’t be protected as they are when they are together. Once used they would be better putting in a wallet or other kit

      @@LockNoob Could they add a wing on the opposite side of the turning tool to give it a more symmetrical keylike profile? Looks great as it is, but thinking about improvements for future versions is never a bad thing

      @@LockNoob except for the tensioners, I'd put them on a keysmart or similar then. The tensioners would go on the little ballchain, for easier access.

  • @craigslitzer4857
    @craigslitzer4857 6 місяців тому

    My first thought looking at those is, do you even need to pop the 2 halves apart. If there's enough flex between the tension half and the hook half, maybe you can insert as a normal key. Let the bottom rail handle the torque and let the top rail handle the pins. That was my first thought. Obviously this doesn't factor in various design concerns like size/shape of keyway, height of hook/rake, etc.

    I've got a very flat and small penknife style set which I keep in the sheath of my multitool - that's always in my vest and I always wear my vest so no problem there. It could also fit into my wallet's coin pouch.
    All said, the intent of these seems to be more to smuggle lock picks into areas where one would normally not be permitted to have them rather than an "emergency."
    Still, thumbs up as they're neat little spy gadgets.

    Great looking little set. I will definitely be ordering a couple. One to carry as is, and one to modify. I believe the two rakes would also double well as "try-out" keys with a little tweaking. Thinning out the width of the backbone area on the tension tool a little and then grinding the thickness of the working end to 0.015.

    The thing I really dislike about the credit card pick sets and things like these is that they are essentially a one-time use item. To actually practice with them to get the feel and carry them in their intended configuration, you'd have to buy two sets.
    If you could sandwich a card-style set to make an ultra-thin case, I would be much more interested. Perhaps something with the punch-out piece in the center and two solid pieces on the outside, held together with adhesive and a clip or thin magnet.
    Heck, you could even make the sides from plastic printed to look like a credit card.

    It's certainly appropriate to have fun with your sport so long as you know there just for fun (and _maybe_ _might_ help you out in a pinch)
    I think those that get butt-hurt over the novelty are either worried that someone wanting to learn will be turned off from picking because they got the wrong starter kit, are more on the field craft side and don't want to see someone getting a novelty as a talisman and not putting in the work or are just wannabes who have mastered the No.3 and are hiding behind a keyboard.
    As to carrying tools in a non-permissive environment and getting caught, a good argument is that you're into lock sport (then you'll have to explain what that is) and it is just a novelty and keychain from one of the major manufacturers meant to represent the general shape of the tools that we use to emulate the key. "Look, this 'L' shape looks like the turning tool, this wavy part looks like a popular rake and the whole thing looks like the key that we don't have. Pretty neat, right?" If it's pushed any more that "But you could still use it." "Well, yeah, sorta. But I bet we could scrounge up some other bits of metal around here to improvise tools to get a lock open. See that windshield wiper over there?"...
    Unless it's law enforcement, then shut up until you speak with your lawyer. (Speaking to those in the USA. Other places, ymmv.)

    where the M is the spring.
    where the O is a tension ball
    and where the {} is the end of the tension tool so it pressure fits into a locked position inside the plastic housing the the key.
