    I started IF in mid March at 235. I’m 70yo male, I do the 16/8 fasting with my two meals being lunch and dinner. For exercise I do a 2 mile walk a day plus work at what ever around the farm. I stay away from sugar now and processed foods and now 8 months later weigh 173. Plus I’m not hungry and don’t feel deprived. 😅

    Hi Dr Fung. Thank you for all the information shared. I was weighing more than 526pounds when I started doing intermittent fasting and came down to 486 pounds. On the 8 of August.
    I went on a full fasting, today is day 105 of fasting and I am down to 343 pounds. I was never as healthy and is still going strong. My blood pressure medicine doses was halved 3 weeks ago.
    All my liver, kidney function and other bloodworks are100%. It projects that I will reach 220 pounds in the next 130 odd days. I will break my fast as described in one of your other videos.

    I've been intermittent fasting since 28. December 2021 now and have made it from the brink of obesity to the lowest weight I have been since before my memory. I am well in the "normal weight" range now and will soon start changing my fasting window a bit (for maintenance).

    • @Equinoxious342
      @Equinoxious342 Рік тому

      The data you have to enter isn’t accurate, figures on food packets can be wildly inaccurate so that’s the app recommendations sunk right there. Exercise load is wildly inaccurate so again, the app relies on bullshit to give you, quite remarkably, accurate data! Yeh right.
      The measurement of CO2 is probably accurate, I’ve no reason to think otherwise but the diet add-on is a waste of time and effort and is inherently flawed.
      After the first year, the device should be free allowing measurements to be taken if you do not want the bullshit diet advice.
      Acetone is a much better indicator. The AceTrack device is a one-off payment and has no diet bullshit.
      Dr Fung here talks about the device and NOT the diet recommendations so technically he’s right and of course he has his reputation to protect but it’s a bit underhand; he should clearly state he is endorsing the device only and not the dietary recommendations.

    Great big thanks, Dr Fung!
    I agree with every superlative ever said about you, and I owe you & your gang thanks for my own weight loss journey. I wholeheartedly support your mission & message!
    However, I noticed that the biggest hurdle for me was/is not the actual hunger when fasting. It´s life long habits & emotional hang-ups to food. For me, food in general, and sugar especially, is my comfort blanket and drug of choice. I eat for comfort, for a pick-up, to celebrate, to mourn, etc. Also (and this took me about 45 years to figure out), I am actually afraid of hunger! And I am probably not alone in this.
    This is scientifically fluffy territory, but I think there would be a public interest if you adressed the emotional impact of fasting.

    The problem with calories in calories out nonsense is that while you can theoretically always control the calories in you do NOT control the calories out, your body ALWAYS does. If you diet for one week, your metabolism goes down, and it's worse with every week. You have to cut several calories of food to burn one calorie of fat and this always holds true. When you fast, the opposite happens and your metabolism goes up for the first 96 hours due to the release of adrenaline, so you actually burn more fat than the calories of cut food would suggest. Doing 72-96 hour fasts I lost over 100 pounds of fat while gaining muscle at the same time and kept it off. The absolute clowns who talk about calories in calories out such as Greg Doucette and Layne Norton have never done that either for themselves or for one single client or we would hear about it constantly from them. Without PEDs, if you are morbidly obese and follow the advice of these broscientists with degrees in nonsense non science topics, you will just lose muscle. On the other hand guys like Dr. Jason Fung have taken hundreds of patients and gotten them to lose over 100 lbs and keep it off, without surgery or weight loss prescription medicine.

    • @Ryan_DeWitt
      @Ryan_DeWitt Рік тому

      Wow, I wonder how people starve to death then. Yes, a PhD in nutritional science is a "Non-science" topic. Like I said, explain how the drug wegovy works so well by increasing insulin but at the same time decreasing appetite so people eat less. How come their bodies don't slow their calories out to the point where the immediately stop losing weight? I know it is hard to understand, but when you weight less, you are carrying around less mass and have less mass to sustain so you aren't going to need as many calories. You will eventually have to reduce your calories more to lose more weight as your bodyweight goes down. Ever see the show my 600lb life? Does he talk more about them changing their hormones, or does he focus on dramatically reducing their calorie intake? Plus the funniest part is, what do you think fasting is? It is the most extreme form of calorie restriction you can do.

    • @LTPottenger
      @LTPottenger Рік тому +1

      Nutrition is a political degree and there is zero scientific method or mathematics taught, so how are you a scientist if you get one? You're not, to any real scientist. You don't know scientific method, and you don't even have the math to talk about scientific studies. People don't starve to death from lack of calories. You can live on 500-800 calories for your whole life because your body will slow metabolism. You die of malnutrition from lack of vitamins and get conditions like pellagra and beriberi. Especially eating nutritionless foods like white rice which nutritionists love to promote for some reason.

    • @Ryan_DeWitt
      @Ryan_DeWitt Рік тому

      @@LTPottenger If you think that nutritional science is just politics and made up and isn't real at all. Plus that calories apparently are some kind of conspiracy too and you could still be puggy and not lose weight on a true 500-800 calories a day and wouldn't end up looking like Eugenia Cooney at best assuming you could stay alive, I really don't know what to say to that. I can say I would think even Dr. Fung would say that is taking it way too far.
      This is one I can just leave like it is and let others reading to decide if they truly believe that.

      I agree that IF is a great tool and after doing keto + IF for 2 yrs and losing 60lb i really doubt that you were able to build muscle during the fasting, maybe during the feeding period but there is no way to build muscle without eating, personally i lost 23 pounds of muscle during those years. Everything in excess can be harmful even good things and it will be different from person to person, for example I developed Hashimoto during those years but my wife’s thyroid is ok and she followed the same diet.
      Actually eating more calories in a keto diet + 16/8 IF and weightlifting have helped me to gain 36lb of muscle and now i have 159lb of lean body mass for my height 5’7 thats a lot and during that time have also lost 9% body fat while keeping exactly the same weight for 28 months.

Eat anything in moderation as long as it’s not processed. I drink water in between . When I’m really hungry I just chew on handful of walnuts. My diet is kinda boring but it worked for me. I quit the bread, pasta, rice, sugar and pop. My sister is diabetic 2 she lost ten pounds already in one week. She started last week Nov. 17, 2022. She was on metformin for eight years and quit cold turkey last week. With metformin, her glucose always around 240ish. Now, that she lost ten pounds , her glucose reading is 160ish. Unbelievable, a humble simple intermittent fasting is healing her diabetes 2. She was also injecting insulin and she quit that , too! Try it! You can do it! Just put healthy food and drink when you break your fast.

    is this analogous to measuring ketones as a guideline for whether or not we are burning fat?

    Dr. Fung,
    The current lumen community has been confused and frustrated by the high tested number after a long fast, my number goes up from 2 at fast 12hrs to 4 at 16 -18hrs … Lumen community generally has the response about long fast caused body under stress, losing muscle for energy.
    There must be a reason why the number goes up and based on this video it sounds like it’s probably using other stored protein like loose skin… which also raise co2?
    Could you pls do a video to explain how lumen respond to long fast ? And why the number goes up ?
    Some ppl shows their number goes back down to low number and fluctuate in a 48 hours fast.
    Thank you 🙏

    Hi Dr Fung, Im on the 4th day of a 10day fast and I'm feeling acid/burn in my stomac, is there anything I can take (water, supplement,etc) that will lower the burning sensation without breaking the fast? Thanks

      If anyone is in the same situation, in my case I have found that sleeping with my head elevated and drinking water with a wee bit of baking soda appears to help moderately.

    I would like to hear about stearic acid. There is a study I heard with people taking banana shakes and stearic acid. The stearic acid group had increased mitochondria activity and preference towards fat burning.

      Was it produced by the Banana Marketing Board? Bananas are laden with sugar, I respectfully suggest you would be healthier to gain your stearic acid from fatty beef and pork, however if you really seek to twist the dietary advice it's also added to many types of chocolate for mouth-feel so just ignore the insulin spike while you dream of a juicy steak. 🍫
