I think your Ian must be one of the most supportive hubbies I have seen. I too am blessed with a husband who helps and supports me in all I do( even when he’s not entirely sure why I do something) he’s with me all the way. ❤️Hope the quilt matches up ok, can’t wait to see the end result. Thelma writes: Jean, your Ian is a so sweet. "I am coming home to look after my darling", Ian said. I love the fact that you refer to Ian, "hello Daddy". I call my husband Daddy too. Seems funny but I have adopted the same title "Daddy", like our two children do. It has been for 50 years and it is lovely. Ian looked proudly on your "just about finished quilt", Jean. Well done and I am looking forward to see it completely quilted. I can see it is going to be a beautiful, well made and warm quilt. You are a clever lady!!! You deserve these 💐 💐 💐. Love from NZ

Oh my word! I am a new new quilter, having made, actually sewn together, a project of any kind. My first quilt, also reversible, also hand stitched was quite successful for an inexperienced person. I am hand sewing a reversible T-shirt/ hoodie quilt with a theme on the front for my son. It is queen size. I wanted to make the borders of the front match the already completed T-shirt side and I didn’t have a clue about the basting. My local quilt shop has been very helpful and I’ve taken a couple of classes this month. But when I mentioned what I wanted, I couldn’t see on their expressions that said uh oh! So thank you thank you for whoever recommended your channel. And a massive thank you to you for this tutorial.

You sure make quilting look like fun, which is how it should be. I recruit my husband's help too, sometimes. He gave me some clamps like you use and I find them very helpful as a second pair of hands. I'm so glad you don't worry about every little pinch in the quilt as that can drive you crazy and I find they can be worked out most of the time. I love the border you put on the front (pretty side) of this quilt. Look forward to your next video.

I do my pin basting almost exactly the same way! I have a large cutting table with a mat that covers the whole thing, so it's the right height and the matt is textured enough to keep the backing in place for me. I tape down wood skewers on the table at the center mark to line things up. Sure beats doing it on the floor! 😊

I have pinned my quilt on the floor till now as I only have a small square table ( quite often finding that when I try to pick up my quilt the carpet wants to come with it!!). Taping something to the center of my table and using the center of my fabric and batting is a great tip Jean so will try it on the quilt I am working on now. Very timely as I am just sewing on the last border.
I am hoping you might be thinking of starting your panel quilt idea soon as I have a lovely Japanese panel I would like to use in my next quilt but want to do something more that just quilt around it. Nice to catch site of your lovely Ian and hear Maxwell in the background. Maybe this is the quilt I will actually risk free motion quilting; or maybe I will start on a smaller project! Great idea with the quarters!
Tip: I put my cutting mats between the quilt and the table to protect the table top. Then don’t have to worry about scratching anything. 😊
I did, one time, pin baste a large quilt on the living room floor. It was my first large quilt (queen sized), new house, new carpet & padding (squishy), 30 year old body! 😂 I also tied that quilt and submitted it to a local quilt show. Got it done just in time. The ladies there had the most fun watching me and my parents admire the fact that my quilt was in a show, lol!

@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory I have the Juki TL98Q that has a lot of space between the needle and the side of the machine and then my husband me me a quilting table where you can buy the frames and rods and track so that your machine will ride back and forth so that you can quilt your quilt I forget the name of it. And yes I spray baste and it works ok. you just have to be careful not to over spray. I have used the batting that you can iron on but your quilt is stiff until you wash it. I love your question which at the end made me smile

Love your comment because I feel the same. I'm forever 'figuring' things out because I don't know the proper way to do it and as for working things out mathermatically....forget it!

I was so glad you updated us. Glad to hear you are doing better. I will try your method in the morning. I habe a reversible quilt that I have been dreding sandwhiching. I love the hand quilting part, and binding. This is only my second quilt, a gift for my gentle giant. I have hand quilted and bound many of my mother's works of beauty. you inspired me to do my first, and encouraged me to complete my second. Love to the Trueloves.
As always prayers for you and your family.

Oh no Margaret!!! I am so sorry...how sad and lost you must feel. 53 years. Oh my word. How very very sad. I'm sure it is a struggle to just get through a day, let alone quilt. Sending hugs and prayers for a measure of peace for you. Take care of yourself. Love from the Trueloves:)

I did this with my first and only quilt. I also put a toothpick taped down on each side in the middle of each side, so that both front and back line up as well.
