- On the BBC's last ever 'Friday night with Jonathan Ross' show Roxy Music were invited to perform.
Other guests on the night were David Beckham, Jackie Chan and Mickey Rourke.
Jonathan thought the band were just going to play 'Virginia Plain', but as a present they also performed the host's favourite Roxy song, 'In Every Dream Home a Heartache'.
Here it is!
Man I love these guys. I'm 76 and their music must be timeless because I've been with them since the early 70's and it dosen't get old.
I blew up your body, but you blew my mind. The best line ever written in a song! Without doubt. This band was incredible.
I have a better one...
I got a girl with a little rubber head.
Rinse her out every night just before I go to bed.
FZ Ms. Pinky
Are! I saw them at 02 arena last night and their rendition of this is already here on youtube- better than this one!
@@Truth1561 Just checked out the O2 version and it's not bad for (nearly) 80 year olds. But it's nowhere near as good as this.
The line was a reference to a blow up sex doll.....the whole lyric is about loneliness and a loveless existence......Im not speaking from personal experience btw!!
Just imagine its from 1973 this song ... 45 years old. Still better than everything you hear in radio
Precisely
For Your Pleasure
And
Mine
Absolute amazing version the backing singers need to take a lot of credit they were superb, MUSIC AT HIS BEST.
Seen them a million times the best band ever 62 now first saw them when I was 15 !
phil ratcliffe Yeah! I first saw them on the Siren tour, I was 17. Nothing compares.
I’ll be fuckin 62 this year!
lucky lucky lucky....stuck here in the U.S. where Roxy never reached the level of popularity that they achieved elsewhere. They did tour here several times but not nearly enough.....I've only seen them on video.
Me too. Saw them in Birmingham in 1975. Best gig I ever went to.
Ray CA Yep, Siren tour, 1975 Liverpool Empire. Awesome!
I’m 62 now too. Not so feckin’ awesome.☹️
Bloody great live version of this timeless classic, with Phil, Paul and Bry and the girls on top form.
I blew up your body, but you blew my mind! One of the best lines in rock history. Nothing more nothing less.
Probably the best version of this song I have heard. Brilliant.
No one has got even near .....best band ever ...
yep
I like how BF gave it over to the backup singers for the end section. They crushed it.
Those backing singers were what the song always should have had. I was waiting all the way through to see what they'd do, and wasn't disappointed.
When was it l first saw them play this 72 - 73 ish still one of my favourite songs
the great paul thompsons on drums now where taking real class drummer
Jonathan got his ultimate song choice after all, such a shame it was edited out of the TV broadcast but so many thanks to the BRYAN page for uploading this absolute classic. Cheers...........
You know how much Jonathan loves this tune the way he burst into laughter when they began the song.
What a band!!!
This song has held up well over the years, so too has Bryan Ferry.
Looking forward to the new album, I ordered it today.
Chilling in the right way.
WOW...they still sound good!
One of Roxy's best performances of this epic song! Thank you very much, Carla
Awesome Bryan! I hope i will hear some songs that have the same rythm as this old and great one
Takes me back to 1971when first heard this incredible song live from a young roxy music at crystal Palace . What a brilliant work of art from a young Bryan Ferry
When he says “my breath is inside you” my knickers hit the floor.
You really must get that elastic sorted .
Best freakin song on this ENTIRE freakin planet
Masterpiece.
Wow what a blast
Magnificient guitar solo by Phil 'Manzanera...starting on Fender and finishing on Gibson Les Paul...excellent camera work and video switching...
Manzanera left RM in 1983.
@@jturon9184 Huh? Everybody left in '83 -- they stopped playing. Bryan pulled the plug on them.
Now thats what you call music.. Real musicians real talent
Love this masterpiece of a song! Genius !
Grande Bryan 😘💓❤
open plan living, bungalow ranch- style. FANTASTIC.TA for posting🤗🤗🤗
Saw them when unknowns at Liverpool stadium early 70s supporting Rory Gallagher never thought they would become so huge.
What a find. This is the best version of : "In your Dream Home.." I've heard. It's even better than the MusikLaden version, which is no longer on youtube.
Many thanks for this "awesome" upload.
Klaus Toth thank you so much for pointing out the viva version of this magnificent song. It’s quite different to most of the others but in great even edgier way.
Somehow I only found this because of the current aftershave advert. Lucky me I’m 55 and have just discovered one of the best pieces of music in my life.
Superb.
Well, this just glorious,
The best live version. Music arrangement and performance elevate the dark poetic Bryan Ferry lyrics.
This is just awesome, magnificent.
What a fucking performance wooooh! Greatest band in history.
Timelessness
Four backing singers. Now that's lush! Australian tour must be coming soon, surely?
Thanks for uploading this sir I looked for it everywhere and couldn't find it anywhere else.
What a great band..love Roxy.Legend.....What's her name" Virginia Plain
Even J Ross..couldn't spoil perfection.
In the early 70s I used to play the album this is from (for your pleasure) on cassette in my mk1 cortina.. And it had such a magical feel about it.. I've still got thst cassette.. It needs another airing in thinking
i love how this is a love song about an inflatable doll
Great to see this after reading about it-loved the song and the band's energy!
Saw him a week ago, VIP package, met him after, he is a sweetheart...
You are very lucky! Oh how I wish I could meet him once in my life. It is my dearest wish!
so fresh...surreal and brilliant.
intense man first heard this on wonderland soundtrack awesome X
Fantastic!
@natateaful . Recorded on 14th July for the TV BBCs Jonathan Ross chat show that aired Friday night 16th July. Roxy performed Virginia Plain & Love is the Drug followed by this surprise favourite song of Jonathan Ross. Unfortunately, the BBC in their lack of wisdom edited out this song from the TV broadcast due to time restraints. Mr Ferrys You-Tube page has kindly posted it here for us all to enjoy.
Its when the crowd sing you blew my mind Bryan loves to hear the fans to sing that part at the end of every he or Roxy do ❤❤
SO FUCKING COOL. ONLY FERRY COULD GET AWAY WITH A SONG BOUT A BLOW UP DOLL!! ROXY, REESPECT.
Yes ! WHAT a GREAT band. UNIQUE,STYLISH,INCREDIBLE SOUND,AVANT-GARDE(even today!),and Mass compatible......! Anyone here to tell me of an other Band, which has the same attributes like Roxy???
There are none - ever.
IEDAH has got to be Ferry at his best as social commentator. Pulls no punches.
Saw the end of a Kim Bbasinger movie on TNT this morning and was reminded of this classic from an era-defining band...
My favourite Roxy song
This brings back memories of Roxy Music at the Rainbow, sadly too many years ago now.
Superb !
This song plus psychedelics = fun time
Magnificent
Saw Roxy '75 at the Apollo in Glasgow...at the top of their game, best gig ever
Same here
Absolutely brilliant
Haunting
IS NO BETTER BAND THAN ROXY MUSIC ,, even better has mature
fkn ell them backing singers are fantastic!!!
In my opinion the best song roxy ever did
the best
Blew my mind....!!!!
“I blew up your body, but you blew my mind.”
So accurate..
Goddamn it hurts. 💔
It seems that Roxy called an audible on this one. Jonathan
was going to attempt an interview but Ferry foiled him. No one was ready
for this. Even Ferry's vocal is dialed in at the beginning. Jonathan
seemed delightfully surprised and sort of slithered off stage. And the sound
guy probably didn't know when to bring in the guitar solo since they
didn't rehearse it. This seems very spontaneous.
Brilliant love it ❤❤❤
Fantastic
gustave moreau, odilon redon, delacroix of the ears.
Fan bloody tastic
IMHO Thee best.
@kanecaptain Thank you for the answer! So much!
"in their lack of wisdom" - perfectly said :)
Yes, this live version of IEDHAH is awesome! My favourite song of Roxy ever, by the way...
@kanecaptain Will you plz say where it was shown and when?
This tune was in a Harry Styles Gucci advert and the Guy Richie movie The Gentleman. A whole new audience are hearing this tune, not just an old fart like me.
I watched this on BBC1 at the time but can't put a date to it. Can anyone help svp?
Nice!!! Great lineup. Who are the drums and bass and violin?
@ChakaFerry Cool! Thanks for letting me know. :)
Dear violinist lady - you are gorgeous 😊💜🤩❤️😍
Rosy were ahead of their time, alt rock psychologists.
..enough to make the skin crawl......and not come back.....the iceman have cometh..from1973 to 2021
Simon Artley Manchester
Violinist woman, love me back ❤️💜😊😍
no comments here about bryan being "elderly" thankfully. he is 4 years younger than otis redding. if otis were still around to sing, would anyone sane say "he just doesn't have the energy he had in 1967..." they wouldn't dare, would they?
Screams off Eno!
The lyrics to this unsettling masterpiece are so ambiguous they can mean one thing to someone and another thing to someone else it all depends on how mentally stable you are
As John Peel once said: "Where the hell did that come from?"
Where did you read / hear that I would like to tell someone that's a massive fan. It would make them rather happy .
How many bands (apart from the stones) can sound as good 45 yrs later with the same song?
Flawed but magnificent.
Ross was over the moon
.....and who's the young lady that took Eddie Jobsons job?
Jonathon Ross, is the ultimate PRAT- why the BBC paid him so much and his cohort (thankfully can't remember it's name!) I want Roxy Music and Old Grey Whistle Test, NOT arrogant TWATS like J ross! Bryan Ferry adds dignified skill and charm in any situation..
Great performance, right up until it they completely fucked it by putting the lead guitar solo too quiet at 04:01.
No doubt....for some reason the guys in the sound booth didn't get Phil dialed up right for that entrance at all!!
He is the only person who has aged well , dresses accordingly and still produces worthwile music. Ok he’s lost a bit of his singing voice but still great
Before rubber dolls were invented too :-)
@spdskte I don't know who she is but she's better looking than Edwin! Not a bad violinist too.
Did Andy just stand there?
for the past ten years had the lyric sheet in front of hin- pleeeze say it not allzheimers setting in!
No my friend it's not the lyric sheets it's the set order I managed to get Ferrys copy when I went to the Dam to see him
I wonder if poor old JT understood the subject of the song?
What's wrong with Rossy? Sounds like that bloke from on the buses, laughing.
