If It Wasn't For The Nights is one of ABBA's best songs.
It's always been my favorite song from them :)
The whole Voulez Vous album is amazing!
253 timeandtimeagain ya it is! It’s my favorite ABBA album! And If it wasn’t for the nights has always been one of my favorites by ABBA
And not a lot of people know that. Happy Hawaii is another favourite of mine.
@@mikeyaureliush9017 yes...I love that. ...and hey hey Helen. ...
Frida looked absolutely stunning during the Voulez-Vous era (late 1978 and most of 1979). This song is amazing and beautiful, should have been a single.
yep started to look amazingly and stunning already in early 1977. On all those tour live pics she looks star all over... she had a little gap in very late 77 until spring 78....
yeah seriously gorgeous.
Since the ARRIVAL era.
YES!! The Voulez-Vous cover picture is VOGUE material. They all looked gorgeous but Frida looked out-of-this-world gorgeous!
@@jonathanfurzeland4740 So many songs should have been by then, but "Voulez-Vous" era full of them, to say nothing of awesome B-sides 'Lovelight' and 'Dream World'.
I've always said Frieda looked like Lynda Carter-aka Wonder Woman- a lot!
Wow! Never heard that one before. This is a true ABBA classic song. The vocals are INCREDIBLE! Really highlights what truly great singers they were. I don't know why this one fell into obscurity.
It didn't fall into obsurity, it was on their multi-million selling album Voulez Vous!!!
Have been listening to it for forty years, and it stays fresh....never was in obscurity!!!
Because many people were not buying the album. I know every song in all their albums
If u never Heard It before them u arent a Big Abba fan man because this is one of their everybody,s fauvorite, very famous in their time , in the voulez vous album
@@sensitivedogswell was number one everywhere in the world for weeks in summer 79 ,one of the most selling albums in the 70,,s
YES, one of my favourite ABBA songs! Great reaction!
You should also check out 'Tiger'
Another vote for "Tiger" from "ABBA: The Movie"
Frida looked soooooo stunning!!! This song is really complex and it's my absolute favorite ABBA song, so glad you reacted to it! You should totally check out Why Did It Have To Me (Live in '77) ua-cam.com/video/UNCDt51cwLs/v-deo.html Really shows off Frida's talent and shows you what a phenomenal performer she is!
Voulez-Vous! Lovers, As Good As New, The King Has Lost His Crown, If It Wasn’t For The Nights, Kisses Of Fire, Does Your Mother Know
There not a bad song or filmer on there (or on any Abba album for that matter...)! Just pure perfection!
So right. .probably their best album ..but I do love a bit of disco ..check out grace Jones disco era ...fantastic
A hilarious performance! What you didn't see, because of the still shots, is Frida going completely wild at the end. It's been widely discussed whether she was drunk or not at the performance. I just think she was having a great time.
Have you seen this video of So Long: ua-cam.com/video/Ecnz0VL4y4k/v-deo.html
Frida was a wild cat :)
@@Pulsar77 Oh yes, she was. That 'leg on the piano' moment is priceless!
Frida just knew how to have fun. 💛
@@Pulsar77 Oh yes, a bit of a tiger right there. A 'leg on piano' kind of tiger.
The Swedish Super Ladies Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad from The Swedish Supergroup ABBA
Hard to believe this was left out as a single release as they went for chiquitta instead, the bass is awesome on this
yes but it wasn't a dance song. i grew up @ the local roller rink and heard all there hits, i guess it wasn't disco enough to shuffle too either. i sing Chiquitta @ karaoke all the time
Chiquitita was released in early 1979 to promote the year of the child, an all proceeds went to UNICEF. The album was finished much later.
Yes, this song is superior.
@@kimberlyjocatone I used to roller skate in the 70's to great music. I still roller skate but sadly the rink music is crap.
@@toby9999 ive watched videos of rinks in Camden NJ. they skate slow not fast. they make trains grown men skate arm & arm @ women who wear black skates
This should have been the lead single from the Voulez- Vous album.
Come on. Chiquitita, Voulez-Vous, Does Your Mother Know, I Have a Dream, Angeleyes, and Lovers (Live a Little Longer) are all better songs.
@Derek Petrie no, it should've been «Kisses Of Fire» 🔥🎵🎶🎼
@@Pulsar77 I agree 100%.
No, that song is just OK, not great
It was selected to be the lead single and then the UNICEF concert came along and of course Chiquitita became the single and IIWFTN was dropped
Honestly, everything ABBA is awesome
One single I can't listen to is I have a dream ..uggh .awful but that's good going after all those wonderful songs .one awful one
@@nickmorrell3559 wtf, it's beautiful. Its one of this Songs you can include in a asmr playlist
@@jjmargolis3305 sorry j j ..I just can't listen to it. .but one song from eight albums. .that's amazing .....personal favourite single is name of the game ....but I have a dream ...especially when the kids start to sing ....no thanks ....
Precisely
This is just one of the many AMAZING songs that Abba has on the Voulez-Vous album.
Another catchy ABBA song is That’s Me😊👍
YES, I was just thinking that he had never gotten around to 'That's Me', one of their earlier ones.
@@HidingFromFate guys there's a camp as tits TV video for 'that's me' I think that was from Japan too, featuring lots of dancers, I'm sure it's somewhere on UA-cam.
ua-cam.com/video/CBCjjJD6bqc/v-deo.html
You've got great superb taste Jay
"Dancing" wasn't their thing, which is why I love them even more....like another group Boney M, they just didn't care & did their own thing, no choreography just impulse & It endeared them to so many people. This is one of their strongest vocal performances after Chiquitita. Voulez Vous was one of their best albums vocally ............... PS Hazell Dean is an english female singer who had a handful of mainstream hit's (in the UK) in the 80's, she was known as a High Energy Artist who's music evolved through the British gay scene and got onto the mainstream charts. She is best known for her No 6 hit "Searchin" She released an album called "Hazell Dean Sing's ABBA" . She still tours the UK performing at various venues and music festivals & has a very large following.
You should definetely see 'Why did it have to be me' live from Australia 1977, Björn and Frida singing. In My opinion one of the greatest performances
Voulez-Vous is a great disco album. As Good As New and Kisses if Fire and two great album tracks.
One of their best songs! The whole Voulez-Vous album is golden. Love you and your reaction, Dereck.
The combination of these voices is out of this world👌
Frida not only "looks like a Superhero" here, Frida IS a Superhero- 100% of the time!
Thx for the nice reaction
Listen to "kisses of fire" ,also from the Voulez-Vous album
A very powerful song
I love that song but I think there is too much of a volume difference between the first lines and the chorus. I hurt my ears several times because of kisses of fire. Now I lower the volume after the first line with superspeed haha.
Love Agnetha's voice at the beginning of that song
I think you should react to some of rock & roll songs of ABBA, like "So Long", "Watch Out", "Hole in Your Soul", "Kisses of Fire", "Rock Me", "Rock & Roll Band". I'm sure you'll enjoy it very very much 😁😊🤩
Try "Angel Eyes" By them
And "Crazy World" is one where Bjorn takes the lead, too
Ana Rabe Don’t recommend Crazy World; it’s a sub-standard ABBA song.
@@Ulvaeus I like it
One of my top ABBA songs, it's amazing
- disillusion...is a song written by Agnetha and was released in 1973. It's a beautiful song.
- You already reacted to the song (eagle) which is one of my favourite ABBA songs. But that was the short version of it. There is a longer version with amazing music part at the end. I am sure you will enjoy it. Also they did another version of the same song with rock-music taste and it was only in one of thier live performance, i think in London.
Thank you :)
Yes, "Disillusion" and the funky "My mama said" are interesting old Abba songs.
It’s actually always been one of my favourites (and I have many)!
I play it quite a lot because it makes me feel so happy and positive!
Hi Dereck, if you are going to react to any more Voulez Vous tracks, please try As Good As New (an album track) and Angeleyes ( a single, it was a double A side with the Voulez Vous single in the UK). ABBA wanted to release If it Wasn't for the Nights as the lead single from their Voulez Vous album, but their record company said no, relegating it to just an album track. It shows how many other strong contenders there were on that album (the UK singles were Chiquitita, Does Your Mother Know?, I Have A Dream, Voulez Vous/Angeleyes and then later on the deluxe edition - Gimme Gimme Gimme ( a Man after Midnight) and Summer Night City.
Sorry folks but I agree with the record company; this is not a track to be a single. The girls sound like Pinky and Perky and goes on too long. I don't see why people rate this so much. Having said that, it's still better than many singles other artists have released!
The harmonies in this song is just out of this world, never heard anything like it. They sound like actual angels! found it today btw lol
Please, listen to/react to ABBA’s ”Hole in your soul” from ABBA The Album. Agneta’s high pitch in the middle of the song is quite amazing.
I'd love to see your reaction to "Me and I" by ABBA. It's an album track from "Super Trouper," that is heavy on synths and shows early use of electronic voice alterations.
another high energy performance by frida
Is there any other sound more heavenly than Frida and Agnetha harmonizing? They both are fantastic singers in their own right but when their voices combined, that magical third voice came out and they excelled. Astounding what they could do with their voices.
When the 1978 Japan special was taped they actually performed the song to an earlier mix. You can watch the original broadcast of the song here: ua-cam.com/video/dFvgBTQXZ_Y/v-deo.html. Before the track was released on the 1979 Voulez-Vous album, further overdubs were done on it.
I love the fact that Frida in particular really went for it in this performance. She was on fire!
Dereck, another Voulez-Vous track you will definitely enjoy is "As Good As New": ua-cam.com/video/w3UMf20i5Ig/v-deo.html. It's bursting with energy. Enjoy!
Frida ❤
So the dirt on this video......ABBA paid a visit to Japan shortly after starting recordings for the Voulez Vous album. This was before any of the Voulez Vous album sleeve graphics had been designed so the costumes and decor were really reflective of their white phase following the release of The Album. The blue iceberg motifs were still not yet invented! Benny and Bjorn were very pleased with “If it Wasn’t for the Nights” and expected it to be a lead-off single of the not-yet completed Voulez-Vous album which is why they chose to preview this particular song. They also performed the unreleased “Summer Night City” as well. Well, as time went and the boys continued to write new songs this one ended up being kicked off the single release roster.....and, as most of us know, “Summer Night City” has always been considered a bit of a failure by Benny and Bjorn and was left entirely off the Voulez Vous album. I also read that the reason for the abrupt onstage performance early ending is because at the time the song had not yet received its final mixing.....it originally was shorter than the album version by about 1.5 minutes. Before this video was ever made public they removed the original audio and replaced it with the album version audio, hence the lack on onstage performance at the end. It is also true that Frida was crossed-eyed skunk drunk for this recording and as much as we think she looks like Wonder Woman, she probably was FEELING like Wonder Woman and no doubt was nearly convinced she was flying her invisible plane as well:)
Now Derick, i completely understand that after bearing the weight and solemnity of The Visitors album, this song appears like a breathe of fresh air. I couldn’t agree more, which is why I will continue to suggest listening to “Hole in Your Soul” (studio version). If released after “Take a Chance On Me”, at the time where the American listeners we really starting to pay attention, it would have been their second #1 US single. It’s that good:)
I'll def put on my list!
I’m guessing this is supposed to be funny? Or a joke. There is some sort of truth as they thought about releasing this as the first single and had an edited version as no singles are ever more than 3-4 minutes.. but the rest.. ?
@@ABBALAURAFAN Indeed, how can you be skunk drunk and stand on those high heels at the same time. Otis Black was there I suppose...
I can recomend One Night in Bangkok from the musical Chess written by Björn and Benny. 👍
The dresses Agnetha & Frida are wearing are from the 1977 Tour - one of my favourite costumes !
Have you reacted to Andante, Andante?
People have been begging you to react to this one for months, Dereck!! You need to pay more attention to your comments section. LOL. Great song, great performance, great TV special ('Abba in Japan'). I'm glad you liked it, even Frida's drunken dancing. But hey, she's Wonder Woman, so she can get away with it. You should also check out 'Why Did It Have To Be Me' (Live in Australia 1977) and 'So Long' ('Made In Sweden For Export' 1975).
Please react to 'Should I Laugh or Cry' by ABBA!
Great synths on that song. Should've been included on The Visitors (it did become a bonus track on reissues).
I recommended this song at least 20 times to you! Facebook, UA-cam, everywhere! These are other life-changing ABBA songs include: My Love My Life, As Good As New, I've Been Waiting For You.
This was set to be the lead single of the "Voulez Vous" album, that's why they actually started performing this in different countries. But then the Music for Unicef concert came along, which meant lots of exposure for whatever they performed, and they switched to Chiquitita as it was a better fit for the event. This one got lucky as the long album version of "Summer Night City" was left out completely and "Lovelight" was downgraded to "Chiquitita"'s b-side. Fun fact: the audio you heard is the album version, the video originally featured an early mix of the song with a different arrangement. Anyway, if you think they are showing off their legs here you should check out the "ABBA Made in Sweden for Export" special from 1975. It's only about 10 minutes but was a major part of their early promotion as it was broadcasted in different markets.
It's seems to me that Frida was drunk in this performance 😂 anyways great track from the band as usual, great bass here and the girls vocals always on point. Love them
Please react to Kisses Of Fire, you will love it, Dereck.
I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE
Hi Derek. I have been bingeing your ABBA posts! Fresh ears appreciating iconic music. Please could you listen to As Good As New from the Voulez Vous album?
This is really propably the most underrated Abba track. It wasnt event a hit?! 😳
I love this discotrack and consider it equal with their megahit Dancing Queen. 💃🏼🕺🏼
Its not even on their best Abba hits album - totally unbelieveble.
Bjorn wrote this song as a reaction to his divorce with Agnetha.
And with legendary Rutger Gunnarsson on base (R.I.P.)
Thx for react to this Derek ❤️
ABBA should’ve replaced Summer Night City with this song for their Voulez-Vous album. Summer Night City wasn’t that good and didn’t even bring ABBA that much success. They don’t even like it either. There’s so much more with this song and might’ve been more appreciated if it were released as a single.
So many people say this is ABBA’s most underrated songs. As you said, there’s a very exciting old-school feel with this ABBA song. It feels so nostalgic to me for some reason, and I was born in 2005. Literally one of my favorite ABBA songs
You should react to the video for Kisses Of Fire/Lovers Live A Little Longer (Switzerland '79). Two of their best tracks!
Una delle mie preferite🤍In questa esibizione amo Frida 🤍grazie Dereck.
Such a joyous, uplifting song. Definitely try Angel Eyes. Another great song from the Voulez Vous album.
Well it may sound ''uplifting'' but the lyrics are really sad actually.
Another one of their LP tracks that could have easily been a single . Such an uplifting song.
Frida queen🤩❤
Love the whole Voulez-Vous album.
Amazing Anni-Frid!!! ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥💕💕💕💕💕💕
One of Abba's finest songs IMO.
Still hasn't done When i kissed The teacher
Wonderful ABBA. Great job yours.👏👏👏
This song is on par with Dancing Queen as one of their greatest, and it wasn't even released as a single. Crazy! The production, bass line and Phil Spector "wall of sound" harmonies are perfection! :)
Great track ...but my favorite song from their Voulez-vous album is ANGELEYES......pure ABBA sound.
You need to react to “As Good As New” from the same album it was track 1 and had great strings mixed with a disco beat
Could you please play Eagle or the arrival theme that was my dad's favorite and he passed away this spring
Lisa- He's already done 'Eagle' but unfortunately it was the edited version so he didn't hear it in all it's full glory!
Uplifting? The lyrics are SO sad. I love the song, it's great, but damn, it can hurt when you're going through things because of a guy ...
I found that in several ABBA songs is that they had sad lyrics sung to upbeat music.
It was fun watching your reaction because that's the way I feel every time I hear this song. It's impossible not to get swept up in the vocals, the strings, the piano, the melody and the great beat. The Voulez-Vous album is filled with some really great dance songs like this one. "As Good As New" is another banging track, unfortunately, no video though. "Angel Eyes" is another standout as well as "Kisses of Fire" which is a really banging track and "Lovers (Live a Little Longer)" which Frida really stands out on.
Abba was one of the greatest music groups in Europe . they were in the peak of their fame in the seventies . They started their career when they won a big music competition with their song ( Waterloo ) . they have many hits such as ( Dancing Queen , The winner takes it all , Fernando , The day before you came )
Sometimes referred to as the Swedish Fab Four. (as referring to the Beatles as the Fab Four)
My recommendation - this live performance of Does Your Mother Know + Hole in Your Soul. Esp. the last track. My fav version of Does Your Mother Know is actually a TV version from 'ABBA in Spain', 1979.
OMG I've been waiting for you to react to this song for so long. I didn't watch it yet, because I can't at the moment, but first I'll do when I will be at home, I'm going to see your reaction 😍😍😍
@Marvin Morawski YES 🤩 Finally someone noticed my EasterEggs 😁😅
It's ABOUT TIME! This was my #1 request! Thank you! Now all you need to react to is I've Been Waiting For You and As Good As New!
Can you believe that I discovered this song one week ago!!? And it's amazing!!! 🤩🤩🤩❤️🅰️🅱️🅱️🅰️❤️🇦🇺🇨🇱🇦🇺🇨🇱🇦🇺🇨🇱
Almost any band would kill to have a song like this in their repertoire, ABBA are so good that this is simply one more track...
I would love you to react to Angeleyes and That's Me :)
What i love is that B&B sorted each album track 1/3 Agnetha lead vovals, then 1/3rd Frida leasd vocals them 1/3rd 50/50 !!
you should listen to As Good As New, Lovers (Live A Little Longer), The King Has Lost His Crown and Kisses of Fire - all from the Voulez Vous album - with Agnetha's vocals in particular being so exquisite
ABBA, the group from «The Land Of The Midnight Sun», did their last tour, as a group, in 1980,,,,,,and it was in the «Land Of The Rising Sun»,,,,,in JAPAN.💖🌞
As usual, nice to hear and see your reactions to this wonderful band ! I’m amazed you haven’t reacted yet to « Thank you for the music » - another great and famous ABBA song ! I’d be glad to see what you think about it, another masterpiece from this wonderful band.
This one is a totally fake playback TV performance, as I hope everybody realizes. But the guys on stage are still the real musicans that actually performed on the song, including the "sick" bassist Rutger Gunnarson :D
ABBA had a huge backing band of about a dozen performers. So if you only see the Four and maybe a few others then you know that the music is mostly recorded for a live performance.
@@tim_davidson6344 Yes, at least ten extra people behind Abba themselves. A choir of three singers + their bass player + two drummers (one of them also on percussion and xylophone) + two extra guitarists + an extra piano/synth + a saxophone/flute player.
Frida👸🏻👸🏻👸🏻👸🏻
Happy New Year is a great song from ABBA
I'm so pleased you reacted to this song, it's one of my favourites x
Spot on. Frida does look like a superhero.
frida is looking at Agnetha and thinking i can dance better than you, Agnetha is thinking that`s what you think.
🤣🤣🤣
LOL.......Frida IS the better dancer!!
@@mjmmjm5370 they both did well, in their own way, two different styles.
@@yohannpereira142 Yes, I guess I just prefer Frida's style.......more loose and natural.
Agneta can't dance, wood. It's real truth. Agneta look at Anni-Frid and think: " Why l can't dance, as Frida?"
Production...superb ! . Orchestral. 💥
I would love to see your reaction to The Piper,a track from the Super Trouper album,it's a great track
Hey Dereck, this is one of the top 3 ABBA disco dance hits I almost request every time at the Gimme Gimme Disco ABBA inspired dance venue traveling all over the U.S. The other 2 are- Angel Eyes and The Winner Takes It All. You need to hear As Good As New from their Voulez Vous album too.
Derek you pause it at wrong times let it go on a bit more !) xAlso please listen to SO LONG ABBA!)live versions x
Great! Thank you! Such a beautiful song, great harmonies, voices, musical arrangement, as you said ‚well done‘ 😄 So, if you can’t decide whether to go on with ‚Elaine‘ (Super Trouper Album) or ‚Lovers‘ (Voulez Vous Album)... try both 😄😂🤷♂️
We still need a reaction of their last single Under Attack
The ending of that video always makes me sad...
A great abba fan from their first single but "under attack" is far from their best songs... (but only my opinion 😉)
Love ABBA and Frida was always my favourite. Growing up I wanted to look like her and used to pretend to be Frida when singing, pretending to be ABBA. Frida knew she was gorgeous, sexy and knew how to dance and make use of the stage which is what shes doing during this performance, shes feel confident, beautiful and just goes for it! Go Frida! ❤
The girls vocals are so so special on this track ....the Voulez-vous album had many strong strong tracks. ..up up and away vibe ..ENJOY....🌈💚⭐🥳🦋.
When i have to watch your videos twice cuz I'm so distracted by you the first time 🙈🤣 Check out Mariah's "Cant Let Go" live on SNL ua-cam.com/video/cQodEESU4U8/v-deo.html its incredible and you'll love it 💯
If it wasn't for ABBA, I never knew there was a country called "Sweden".
Oh man! I loved this one!! I was 20 when this album came out. I absolutely wore this record out, but I still have it!! Lol. WE HAD GREAT FUN MUSIC !!
Lovers live a little longer. Off voulez-vous should be made a world aids day anthem = give it a listen. You'll probably see we're I'm coming from = I've been suggesting it for many years.....? 😉🎈🌈💚
Love Benny doing his excited Benny thing
Good song, good reaction, one of the best ones I think you did Dereck, and you did many good ones....a great song,ABBA song...they are very very high level of course..
Late 70's 2 happy couples during the Disco years. I discover this songs not long ago. It makes me so happy. Huge jump from reviewing the dark album The Visitors. Hahaha keep reacting to as much ABBA material please.
I love the king has lost his crown...play that a lot... ABBA is an album king...they made every single there very best...and listen to there albums more than ABBA gold.
I think the fact that it was so upbeat that it could or SHOULD have been a single but we don't make those decisions.
Omg! I know it’s ABBA and I’m Swedish, haha..
This was actually really good. Wasn’t that familiar to this one. So good.
Also, still love your reaction. Your reaction over all🥰
the famous "Nordic countrys Leggy woman"
I´m missing this on ABBA GOLD
The vocals on this is just amazing!!!
If it wasn't for the nights is 3 minutes of pure joy. ABBA at their very best. Thank you for reviewing this.
