I suspect that next video will be about "Throgg is actually not so bad"
If that video were ever gonna come out I would've assumed it would've come out today. Is April fools a thing in Straya?
@@JB-xl2jc Yeah fairly sure it is, Legend did some pranks with April Fools back in the day. I don't think he has done any in the last 2-3 years I think, not 100% sure though. But Legend has been positive for Lothern Seaguard the last couple of "months". He talked a fair bit about them in his last High Elves campaign and used them with the Chaos invasion for example.
*Giants
Thorgg start is actually not that bad. Not the hardest campaign the game has to offer
@@bingchillingsimp5811 Yeah but Legend despises Throgg and Trolls in general. Although it seems not longer as much as at the start of WH.
Its official. He’s gone crazy :D
I thought that this was going to be an April Fools joke, but I got fooled anyway
I'm not surprised, Legend used Lothern sea guard a lot in his last HE stream
or it's an april fool prank ;)
Ate too much warpstone.
I hate fighting Lothern Seaguard because you can't just run them over with cav or flying units like you can with other missile units.
Using cav in twwh campaign Lmao
@@sydorovich2532 i mean if you play bretonnia, you don't really have much of a choice, even with empire i'd say that some cav can come in handy at times

Nahh LSG Is better than sisters of averlorn Overall and I've tested it several times always LSG win.
@@josh8945 Tested how?
@@SaintSC05 1v1 and stack vs stack
@@josh8945 I don't know. Being better between only each other doesn't mean they are better overall.
@@josh8945 dude they're not better than sisters of Avelorn, not even close. LSG really suck against heavily armoured armies whereas the sisters shred them, and the sisters are way better in melee.
Mage: Oh no! I'm surrounded! Better run somewhere safe.
Sometimes medieval II units if surrounded will fight to the death rather than rout, I guess CA thought it was too annoying or something.
@@ingold1470 Reminds me of when legend played Rome and seeing the AI capable of retreating before loss blew my ignorant mind. AI actually doing someting to preserve themselves, or at the very least, avoid things that would un-preserve their life, like routing into enemies.
Ah, this reminds me of my first Warhammer 2 campaign. Teclis on the Vortex and Lothern Sea Guard spam.
As an High Elf player, i have to say that this unit is good, they hold the line pretty well, they are one of the cheapest HE unit and they are decent range unit plus they have anti-large bonus. they are good because they are versatile, not all range unit can resist or even breack a cavalery charge, they do. Spamming them give you a real range superiority against every non artillery based army.
Lothern sea guard is the MVP low cost unit. When I play as the High elves, I just can't ever resist spamming them because they are jacks of all trades.
I love using them as the first line of archers in front of the actual archers, that way they get the aggro from other archers and block cav charges/monsters
@@gwanael34 exactly. Just keep shooting and once the enemy gets too close, it's pointy time
In campaign it's absolutely stupid that sisters of avelorn cost the same upkeep as lothern sea guard. They should be at least 1.5x as expensive.
Honestly I think they are weak and would rather use archers + spearman early on
@@TheBarser The only way they are weaker in melee than spearmen is the amount of entities in the formation. They have better stats than the spearmen.
The best April Fool's is the one where it actually isn't one. We know legend has been positive towards lothern seaguards for a while now, still everyone will think he's joking kek.
Кек так кек
Almost 1/3 of death are from friendly fire.
Impressive chief-lord Teclis !
I liked that balista shot at 8:21 that removed half a LSG life
Because I don't own any DLC, Lothern Sea Guards make the bulk of my armies.
Couldn't possibly be a prank, Legend wouldn't do us like that right? /s

Alas! The warpstone has gotten Legend. He’s lost his mind.
That was over 10minutes without legend insulting whoever sent this in. He must be more content or something than last time watched him over a year ago.
Legend is probably the only wh2 youtuber I know who talked shit about the seaguards.
I mean he is right about it tho lol
@@mr.joesterr5359 I mean, they’re budget Sisters spam. Before the dlc came out (or for those who just can’t spend the money) seaguard spam was pretty common. Again, they’re budget sisters, they aren’t bad.
Morgan with an Eevee i just spam regular archers instead. Worse at melee, but higher range and cheaper + no building required
@@aristotelsb8874 Same here, though I would have liked seaguards instead. The problem is that by the time I've got the seaguards unlocked and the army free to refit, the sisters are already available.
Seaguard stack is not a bad option. When it first came out, I completed my first ever Warhammer 2 campaign as Tyrion High Elves (VH/VH) basically only using Lothern - they chewed up the final battle (which to be honest is a bit of an anti-climax), but also remained undefeated the entire campaign.
I really liked the battle, it really showed your tactical acumen without cheese.
Next video will be Nakai Full Kroxigor Doomstack mark my words
Kroxigor stack is op
I used it against Norsca...it was solid. (Won against a much larger army and fought them at a choke point....my baby crocs did some work)
Can confirm burned the new and old world myself.
@@RonOnTheWay I have not used them, usually went with saurus and dinos, just commented that cuz Legend hates Nakai and dislikes kroxigors. Now that you all say it works I'm gonna give it a try. Thanks.
5:04 Nakai: "I'm coming for you, wench!"
Legend, you are Australian, if Nakai is growling at you, you channel your inner Steve Irwin!
That formation is *mwah* so beautiful... Gotta use it.
Sea Guards are also buffed by the Honed trait, and will beat Sisters of Avelorn in a shootout due to their shields.
Thank you for the content. I really love it..
reminds me of my first ever TWWH2 campaign, they really were the backbone of my armies
Yep, same for me
hmm, a valid way of increasing dmg for this archers is to keep buffing them with the flamming sword spell from the fire magic, whilst spaming fireballs, this way you get 22% more dmg from the buff and another 12% from the kindleflame's debuff, going from 29 dmg to 38.86 dmg. add in some handmaidens' or archer lords abilities and you easily get a versatile semi tanky unit with decent dps
Gold chevron sea guard with all the technology and red skill line buffs are pretty fucking good.
Legend's life lesson: If you make a mistake, don't panic. Find the advantage and roll with it.
Solid demo for why the checkerboard is so powerful. Thanks legend!
Lothern Sea Guard is for frugal one, Sisters of Avelorn are for rich.
Also I think that metal/shadow wizard would be better for such army because of passive/armour debuff spells.
You sound like Caesar in Gaul...well done lad.....haven't even finished it yet don't even know if you pull it out...still the prep work. Outstanding.
4:23 "I don't think burning will do much."
"Understood"
Whoa. At this point he can comune with them...
I actually play Alith Anar with a sort of a "doomstack": base of Lothern Sea Guard as frontline and Shadow Warriors as skirmishers and flankers. Works like a charm agianst most armies, heavily armored ones can be a problem tho.
Glad to see a staunch line of spears finally coming in clutch.
Honestly I do like the Lothern sea guard as my tactics when playing high elves is just missile span, so having missile units that also can defend themselves against calvary charge is just lovely. Still, usually just replace the spearmen with them and not the entire army.
Oh yes. First HE doomstack that I used when WH2 was released.
This is my disaster battle. I would have not guess to do that with my lord and hero because they’re the ones I wanted to survive the most. Also my lord has an item that boosted ranged units attack and stuff so I kept her close by.
He got off lucky with there cold ones. They usually spawn them on my artillery.
I know this battle really didn’t seem that bad but for me if I did not stop him there he could just escape and continue to attack my weaker settlements in the area.
Thank you again for winning this battle. I usually try to solve these situations on my own but for some reason I felt like I was smashing my head against a wall here and just really needed help.
A Fire High Mage and a Light wizard would be even better. More magic and they complement each other with nets and firestorms while the LSG shoot all the time.
Ive used ~4 LSG for my Sisters stack for quite a while, but only against other ranged factions. Have them stay where Im expected to take gun/archer fire, the silver shields can absord a hell of a lot more than unshielded Sisters.
before watching: How the hell is this a disaster battle? Sea guards should easily be dumping on this army. Now let’s watch and see.
good 1st April fools guys :)
You killed 72 of your own troops according to the battle results screen. Yes-yes.
LSGs aren't so bad because what they lose in range (compared to archers) they gain in melee staying power. With shields you also have some protection from missile troops.
So with a checkerboard formation your first line(s) are resisting a bit more to the melee clash, allowing the rear to shoot more arrows.
Something so satisfying of seeing the hellfire of arrows flying lol
The missed mark here is that Lothren sea guard (w/shield) can get boosted sooooo much by heros and generals. Not to mention an army of lothren sea guard is an army of archers and an army of spearmen, they might cost alot more but the rolls they fullfill comparatively farrrr outreach that cost, and they preform those rolls much more effectively and this allows youre entire army to be archers. One army does the job of 2 but much more flexibly and effectively.
Not to mention it a LSG army has no real weaknesses. where as archers and spearmen just get slaughtered constantly.
I love Lutheran sea guard, they are the best core army unit early game
I like to put them on the flanks, but I’ve used them to win battles while super outnumbered and it’s great
honestly i like running 5 or so lothern sea guard units in my early game stack as high elves when playing as Eataine, they're really easy to recruit at lothern sea gate and you can a few bonuses with them. Using them as the front squares of the checkerboard as they are decent in melee.
I learnt a lot with that widge formation, going to use it in my Liu Chong play with spam of chen crossbows.
Would be great if you could teach us some strategies in battle like that one, had no idea we could form units beside lines and it would work.
I always liked them for most early campains.
In the early game I usually have bait units to go against the enemy to either hold it or to split the enemy
Heroes-as-speedbumps are usually what I do with missile armies, it's pretty good
Alternative title : Rating a Lothern sea guard doomstack
Merry Christmas!
Varus, the locals are rebelling
I have always loved them. So decent they can make it through mid game.
A surpisingly good unit - even if high elves have an absolute beast of a roster of more unique and powerful options.
I love LSG in campaign probably more than I should, but they create such a nice anvil or roadblock.
I have been using that setup since the inception of the game
Ive always liked lothern sea guard. Theyre a decent hybrid
Was hoping he pranked us with a This is Total War Throgg camp
On my girst high-elf playthrough, I've made an army or two of only sea-guard and it conqured all lizardmen.
Ah, so Legend has finally discovered the Staunch (ranged) Spearbox of Doom.
this is basically the same army i had for my first highelf campaign
legend seems surprised how short that battle was... personally i use LSG as a doomstack against heavy ranged factions for the shield until i can get sisters of avelorn
I've always liked them midgame - they allow me to consolidate my archer-spear spam into a multi role battalion in support of my higher tier units
Cheap anti-Calvary decent range, this is the early game doom stack to fight Bretonia or Norsica
Look at all those Sea Guard kills. :)
I'm kinda surprised Legend wasn't keen on the Lothern Sea Guards until now.
They're a front line unit with a ranged attack and they get hella buffs from research and leaders who can fit almost any army comp. Maybe they're more expensive than Spearmen and Archers, but High Elves can foot that bill because they're an infrastructure focused faction.
High elves, staunch spear formation, arrows and a little bit of magic? Honestly what’s not to love?
Well LSG are Archers with Shields and Melee defense and charge protection. They are just more expensive than Archers but far easier and earlier to recruit than sisters...so they are a viable stack to recruit, when you don't have the measn to recruit sisters yet but need more holding power than Archers.
Especially for Armys you raise to defend against a sudden war, LSG are quite nice.
I love me some fully buffed LSG with Shields
Imagine having that fire buff on all those LSG
I agree legend. LSG are excellent in campaign. Most cost effective front line you can have for the HE IMO. I usually start with quite a few of them. But even once i'm ready to convert over to sisters, by then i have at least two (sometimes 3) armies. I just distribute them to each army to act as an anti-large front line. 3 or 4 LSG per army. They're obviously not worth having in the late game, but they transition nicely from early to mid game.
With ardent handmaidens and nobles you can make lothern seaguard very tanky in melee (with 4 of them you can get around 80 melee defense).
Legend you have developed a good sense of humor 🙂🙂
I used to hate Lothern Sea Guard, until my dumb ass realised I wasn't setting them to melee mode when they were about to be charged
i know this is a joke but i actually do like them
He isn't actually joking, he said multiple times on stream for a while now that lothern seaguard aren't that bad.
I once had a Lothern Seaguard stack under a lord with the 'I don't believe skaven exists' trait get ambushed by 3 skaven armies + a skaven garrison(i was attacking, but not enough movement points to reach their settlement+underestimated how many armies they had).
I won. I have believed in Lothern Seaguard units since then. Unfortunately, I didn't save the game then, would have passed it on to Legend otherwise.
Finally; this man got some taste LOL
Legend of Total War here, today we got an April Fool's Doomstack
I will spam giants and put them in checkerboard formation, that oughta do it
I want to see next video "White Lions of Trash are actually really good" xD
My friend hates the Sea Guard but I've always enjoyed them. I like their utility and that they have way more staying power than normal archers. I just wish they didn't have a smaller unit size than spearmen, but that would probably make them too good as a ranged unit.
LegendofTotalWar, to make LSG good against lizards you must have 4 heros with army bufs to make LSG melee def 80-90+ and about 2 of those heros must be queen maidens with armor peircing army bufs.
I like sea guards, I tend to run Teclis with these guys until i can field full army of arcane phoenixes :P
It is April 1st. I’m having my doubts...
Next video : why stormvermins are the best unit in the game.
Well i liked it. Jack of all trades master of none kinda deal
Ive always liked them because they remind me of Roman units in Rome 2
Why was this save send in in the first place? That's how I rule the early/mid game with high elves all the time and before I bought the sisters of avalon DLC, that was part of my endgame strategie too
TBH I think a half and half archer/LSG stack is possibly better than all LSG. Archers have 15 more range so having the back half of your formation be them will let them get their first volley off earlier.
Really not-keen on the way missiles work. Breadth vs. Depth should always be relevant to how much firepower you can deliver, balanced against morale/defence bonuses respectively.
Anything more than 3 ranks deep especially gunpowder or flat trajectory projectile units should have a major accuracy penalty or just not fire at all.
There's too many naff tactics that take the thinking out of battles for the sake of a more expediant, arcadey, glitzy experience IMO.
How important do you think shields are for Seaguard? Can you make do with the ones you get from ports?
Staunch line
Everyone who wants to test new units bevor buying a dlc, please download the Dogs of war cross faction. Mod. It allows you to recruit any unit in the game without having the DLCs
I am not sure but I think sea guard are buff by spear line and missile line
I have my doubts that this would work against chaos
Even Legend's mistakes pay off
Me: *Sees today’s date,*
*Believes nothing from nobody all day 🤣🤣*
One thing about the Sisters is that their accuracy is lower than other archery units. You can see this when you try to hit single-entity infantry like unmounted lords. Sisters will miss most of the time. But, with LSG, Archers, or the Nagarythe variety of stealth archers, nearly all of the arrows will hit, dramatically increasing ammo efficiency and DPS. For low-armor single-entity units, I think archers have higher DPS than Sisters.
For LSG in particular, I don't think a full stack is the ideal arrangement because of their low entity count. Having a front-line of LSG to replace spearmen is OK because they can contribute ranged dps in the pre-melee phase, but it's arguable whether or not having a frontline of expendable, cheap spearmen is better economy-wise. IMO, LSG can do ~80% of the job of either Spearmen or Archers at 2x the cost. Their main strength is tactical flexibility to take advantage of enemy weaknesses or shore up your defenses. It might be better to have 2-4 spearmen, 4-6 LSG (total 6-10 "frontline"), and the rest archers, artillery, and heroes.
